Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a lighting apparatus, particularly for streets lighting and public lighting in general.

[0002] As is known, there are several types of public lighting apparatus that include lighting apparatuses for vehicular roads, apparatuses for street lighting in urban environments, and apparatuses for decorative and special lighting in general.

[0003] Lighting apparatuses for vehicular roads include lighting bodies with an optical system that is specific for lighting streets with motorized traffic.

[0004] Apparatuses provided with LED lighting devices, constituted by a series of LEDs arranged in parallel rows, each provided with its own optical system, are increasingly widespread.

[0005] In order to obtain the photometric curve required by the specific application, each LED and associated optical system is oriented differently.

[0006] The bodies of the apparatuses are designed for the specific uses, and since the dimensions and shapes of the optical systems used for the LEDs and for gas-discharge lamps are very different, a body designed for a given type of light source cannot be used with another type, unless bulky bodies with unnecessarily increased volumes, particularly with respect to the requirements of LEDs, are provided, as disclosed, for example, by US2007/0253198 relating to an LED system that can be fitted in a conventional street lighting structure.

[0007] On the other hand, casings designed for use with LEDs cannot accommodate the comparatively large reflector optical systems of gas-discharge lamps.

[0008] Due to functional and aesthetic reasons, it may be required to use the same type of lighting body with different types of light sources.

[0009] Also for economic and production reasons, it would be convenient to provide lighting bodies capable of accommodating different types of lamps according to the requirements of the user.

[0010] The aim of the present invention is to provide a compact lighting apparatus, particularly for street lighting and public lighting in general, that can accommodate very different light sources and optical systems without altering the containment body.

[0011] Within the scope of this aim, an object of the invention is to provide a lighting apparatus capable of offering the best photometric performance with any type of light source.

[0012] Another object of the invention is to provide a lighting apparatus that is constituted by a limited number of components of the modular type.

[0013] Another object of the present invention is to provide a lighting device which, by virtue of its particular constructive characteristics, is capable of giving the greatest assurances of reliability and safety in use.

[0014] This aim and other objects which will become better apparent hereinafter are achieved by a lighting apparatus, particularly for street and public lighting in general, comprising a compact casing constituted by a lower shell and by a lid; characterized in that said lower shell comprises at least one compartment adapted to accommodate a luminaire, and at least one seat for power supply and control devices for said luminaire; said compartment being configured to accommodate luminaires of various types and sizes.

[0015] Further characteristics and advantages will become better apparent from the description of preferred but not exclusive embodiments of the invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lighting apparatus provided with LEDs;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the apparatus provided with a different number of LEDs;

Figure 12 is a sectional front view of the apparatus provided with LEDs;

Figure 13 is a perspective view of a luminaire provided with a containment body having a different shape and provided with LEDs;

Figure 14 is a perspective view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, provided with a different number of LEDs;

Figure 15 is a perspective view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, provided with a gas-discharge lamp;

Figure 16 is a bottom view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, provided with LEDs;

Figure 17 is a side view of the apparatus of the preceding figure;

Figure 18 is a plan view of the apparatus of the preceding figure;

Figure 19 is a perspective view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, shown without the upper lid, provided with a reflector for a gas-discharge lamp;

Figure 20 is a perspective view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, shown without the upper lid, provided with LEDs;

Figure 21 is a sectional side view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, provided with a reflector for a gas-discharge lamp;

Figure 22 is a sectional side view of the apparatus of the preceding figure, provided with LEDs.

[0016] With reference to the cited figures, the lighting apparatus, according to the invention, generally designated by the reference numeral 1, has a casing constituted by a lower shell 2 and by a lid 3.

[0017] The lower shell 2 has at least one compartment 4, which is adapted to accommodate a luminaire, and at least one seat 5 for power supply and control devices of the luminaire.

[0018] According to the present invention, the compartment 4 can accommodate luminaires of various kinds; specifically, both LED optical systems and optical systems for gas-discharge lamps can be used.

[0019] In the example illustrated herein, the compartment 4 can accommodate a dome reflector 6 for a gas-discharge lamp 7 or one or more LED modules 8.

[0020] The reflector 6 rests on a base plate 9, which includes an opening for the diffusion of light, while the LED modules 8 rest on an LED base plate 10, which is provided with a number of openings 11 that corresponds to the number of LED modules 8 applied in the compartment 4.

[0021] As exemplified in Figures 1 and 2, the apparatus can be provided with a different number of LED modules 8, thus modifying the lighting performance of the apparatus itself.

[0022] The apparatus 1 described above and illustrated in Figures 1-12 is adapted to be applied to a pole or other support by means of a coupling 12 in order to constitute a street light.

[0023] Figures 13-22 illustrate a lighting apparatus according to the invention, generally designated by the reference numeral 100, which includes a casing constituted by a lower shell 102 and a lid 103.

[0024] The casing is disk-shaped, adapted to hang from cables or other similar supports, by means of an upper coupling 113, for public lighting.

[0025] The lower shell 102 has at least one compartment 104, which is adapted to accommodate a luminaire, and at least one seat 105 for power supply and control devices of the luminaire.

[0026] According to the present invention, the compartment 104 can accommodate luminaires of various kinds; specifically, it is possible to use both LED optical systems and optical systems for gas-discharge lamps.

[0027] In the example illustrated herein, the compartment 104 can accommodate a reflector 106 for a gas-discharge lamp 107 or one or more LED modules 108.

[0028] The reflector 106 rests on a base plate 109, which includes a light diffusion opening, while the LED modules 108 rest against an LED base plate 110, which is provided with a number of openings that corresponds to the number of LED modules 108 applied in the compartment 104.

[0029] As exemplified in Figures 13 and 14, the apparatus can be provided with a different number of LED modules 108, thus modifying the lighting performance of the apparatus itself.

[0030] In practice it has been found that the invention achieves the intended aim and objects, providing a compact apparatus in which it is possible to use LED optical systems or gas-discharge lamp optical systems and the like, provided with a reflector, in order to also offer a composite lighting.

[0031] The present apparatus is distinguished from traditional devices, in which the body of the apparatus must be adapted to the dimensions and shapes of the optical devices for gas-discharge lamps, which are normally very different from LED lamps.

[0032] This application claims the priority of Italian Patent Application No. MI2011A002063, filed on November 14, 2011, the subject matter of which is incorporated herein by reference.
