(54) Light for rectangular surfaces

(57) The light for rectangular surfaces comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes (1) arranged in a row, including each one of said light emitting diodes (1) its corresponding optics (3, 4) and characterized in that some of said light emitting diodes (1) comprise asymmetric optics (3) and the remaining of said light emitting diodes (1) comprise extensive asymmetric optics (4).
It allows for optimising the quantity of light emitting diodes for rectangular spaces, because the majority of light is incident on the shelf or site to be illuminated and has low losses, which is a differences in respect of currently known light using not very asymmetric optics, which causes an intensive illumination or a large loss of light if they are further apart from the surface to be illuminated.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a light fixture for lighting generally rectangular surfaces, such as shelves, comprising a plurality of light emitting diodes (LED) with their corresponding optics to illuminate the area in question.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Currently, it is increasingly common to use light comprising light emitting diodes (LED) as light sources.

[0003] LED have the advantage that their consumption is very low compared to conventional bulbs. Thus, although the cost is higher, is already common the use of LED lights to get the highest energy savings.

[0004] The lights comprising LED are commonly used for indoor and outdoor lighting. For indoor use they are usually not used to illuminate particular locations, such as the case of shelves or similar.

[0005] This is due to the fact that it requires a high density of light with a large number of LED to achieve adequate lighting, which means that a light of this type has a high cost.

[0006] For example, patent application KR20110095437 discloses a lighting module for shelves comprising a plurality of LED arranged on a printed circuit with fixed intervals. Moreover, these LED each comprises the same optics so that the light distribution is not optimised to illuminate the shelf, but the light is scattered.

[0007] Therefore, it is clear the need for a lighting fixture for tight spaces, such as shelving and the like, using LED as light sources and whose cost is small compared to the currently known LED lights for the same utility.

[0008] Still another object of the light of the present invention is achieve, with the minimum possible number of LED, an optimally illuminated shelf or rectangular area.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0009] The light of the invention resolves the aforesaid disadvantages, presenting other advantages that will be described.

[0010] The light for rectangular surfaces of the present invention comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes arranged in a row, including each one of said light emitting diodes its corresponding optics, and is characterised in that some of said light emitting diodes comprise asymmetric optics and the remaining of said light emitting diodes comprise extensive asymmetric optics. That is, the light of the present invention comprises asymmetric optics and extensive asymmetric optics that can be placed in any position.

[0011] Advantageously, at least two light emitting diodes of each end of the row have an "oval" type optics (asymmetric), whereas the remaining of light emitting diodes have a "flare" type optics (extensive asymmetric).

[0012] Preferably, the light emitting diodes provided with "oval" type optics are two or three in each end of said row of light emitting diodes.

[0013] Also preferably, the light for rectangular surfaces comprises at least five light emitting diodes with "flare" type optics between said light emitting diodes with "oval" type optics. Advantageously, for manufacturing reasons, the total amount of light emitting diodes is a multiple of three.

[0014] Also advantageously, said light emitting diodes with oval type optics are arranged in a different level than the light emitting diodes with "flare" type optics.

[0015] According to two alternative embodiments, said optics of the light emitting diodes are protected by means of a casing comprising a central recess where are placed the "flare" type optics and ends at an upper level which protects the "oval" type optics, or the optics of said light emitting diodes are protected by means of a flat casing, wherein the light emitting diodes with "flare" type optics are placed in the centre in a printed circuit board at an upper level with respect to the board where the light emitting diodes with "oval" type optics are placed. Preferably, the "oval" type optics have a dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 35° and 55°, and have a dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 15° and 25°, whereas the "flare" type optics have a dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 95° and 120°, and have a dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 7° and 20°.

[0016] The whole light has a dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 10° and 25° and has a dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 40° and 90°, more particularly it has a dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 15° and 25° and has a dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 50° and 80°.

[0017] With the Light for rectangular surfaces of the present invention the following advantages are achieved:
  • Optimising the number of light emitting diodes for rectangular spaces, because the majority of light is incident on the shelf or place to be illuminated and has low losses, a difference in respect of the currently known lights using not very asymmetric optics that cause lighting a high density illumination or a large loss of light if they are more separated from the surface to be illuminated;
  • The arrangement of the "flare" type optics prevents light emitted from said optical diodes to intersect the "oval" type optics.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0018] For a better understanding of the invention some drawings of a preferred embodiment of the light for rectangular surfaces of the present invention are attached, purely by way of nonlimiting example.

[0019] In said drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the light for rectangular surfaces of the present invention in exploded view.

DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0020] First, it should be noted that in the present description and in the appended claims two optical types are defined by the terms "oval" (asymmetric, with dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 35° and 55° and dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 15° and 25°) and "flare" (extensive asymmetric, with dispersion in the 0°-180° plane between 95° and 120° and dispersion in the 90-270° plane between 7° and 20°).

[0021] The light of the present invention is especially designed for use in substantially rectangular surfaces, for example on shelves so that only said surface has to be illuminated maximizing the use of illumination density and minimizing the number of light sources.

[0022] The light of the present invention comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes (LED) 1 arranged in a row on a printed circuit board 2. Each one of said LED 1 has an associated optics, which can be of two types: "flare" type optics 4 and "oval" type optics 3.

[0023] Moreover, according to the illustrated embodiment, the light of the present invention comprises an upper casing 5 for protecting the optics 3, 4, and a lower casing 6, which houses all the components of the light of the present invention.

[0024] As can be seen in Figure 1, two "oval" type optics 3 are arranged in the ends of said arrangement in row of LED 1, whereas the "flare" type optics 4 occupy the central part of said arrangement of LED 1, five in the case of the illustrated embodiment.

[0025] It has to be noted that the quantity of LED 1 and their corresponding optics can vary as a function of the length of the light, but in particular two or three "oval" type optics 3 in the ends and five o fifteen "flare" type optics 4 in the central part are preferred.

[0026] For manufacturing reasons it is preferred that the total amount of LED 1 and their corresponding optics 3, 4 is a multiple of three, although it is clear that it could vary according to the needs.

[0027] As can be seen in Figure 1, the upper casing 5 comprises a central recess 7 placed at a lower level below the rest of upper casing 5. This central recess 7, with its internal walls tilted in its ends, is the part of la upper casing 5 which protects the "flare" type optics 4.

[0028] Its special shape is intended to favour the light emitted by the LED 1 with "flare" type optics 4 do not intersect with the "oval" type optics 3 therefore increasing the efficiency of the lighting fixture.

[0029] According to an alternative not shown in the drawings, instead of the upper case 5 having a central recess 7, the printed circuit board 2 could have two different levels, so that its effect would be the same as the central recess 7 shown in figure 1.

[0030] As indicated above, with the light for rectangular surfaces of the present invention the main advantage of optimising the number of LED is achieved, achieving the same light density than conventional lights currently known and with fewer LED, which beneficially affects the cost of the fixture and the corresponding energy saving.

[0031] Although reference has been made to a specific embodiment of the invention, it is apparent to one skilled in the art that the described light for shelves is susceptible of numerous variations and modifications, and that all the details mentioned can be substituted by other technically equivalents without departing from the scope of protection defined by the appended claims.
