(54) Ultrasonically excited comb


(57) A comb for hair or fibres is discloses which comprises a rigid comb body (10) having a spine (12) extending along a longitudinal axis and a plurality of teeth (14) projecting from the spine (12) and extending transversely to the longitudinal axis, and at least one ultrasound generator (20) connected to the spine (12). In the invention, the or each ultrasound generator (20) comprises at least one ultrasonic transducer (22) operative to apply compression waves to the spine (12) in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the spine (12) so as to cause surface waves to propagate along the spine (12) and the teeth (14) of the comb body (10).
