Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention concerns a hinging apparatus for hinging a mobile member, such as for example a door or panel of a piece of furniture, with respect to a fixed structure, such as for example a door jamb, or the frame of a piece of furniture, using one or more hinges of the so-called retractable type, that is, not visible from the outside when the mobile member is in a closed position. The hinging apparatus is applied particularly, but not exclusively, in determinate fixed structures or frames for doors, having determinate standard sizes and provided with an ornamental finishing element, called "staff bead" by persons of skill in the art, which is normally positioned in the external part of the fixed structure to cover from view at least the longitudinal edge of the latter in correspondence with the wall to which the fixed structure itself is attached.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] In the field of doors, windows and furniture, retractable or recessed hinges are known, that is, the type that in the closed position all the elements of which it consists are completely inserted inside the door, window or piece of furniture on which they are mounted, so that they are not visible from the outside.

[0003] For example, retractable hinges are described in the European patent application EP-A-2.390.446 and the applications for Italian patents of industrial invention UD2011A000160 and UD2011A000207 in the name of the present Applicant.

[0004] It is also known that in the field of doors, windows and fixtures it is increasingly widespread to produce for the building trade mainly doors and windows with their respective frames having standard sizes, to reduce production costs and to have functional and interchangeable products.

[0005] Furthermore, for some years now, especially frames for doors have been provided with an ornamental finishing element, called staff bead, which is positioned in the external part of the frame to cover from view at least the longitudinal edge of the latter in correspondence with the wall to which the frame is attached. The staff bead is normally substantially L-shaped, with a smaller side suitable to be inserted into a corresponding oblong slit of the fixed frame and a bigger side that has the function of defining an external and visible frame of the fixture. The oblong slit normally has a width of a few millimeters, for example about 4, and a length equal to the height of the frame.

[0006] Normally, in the most common frames for doors, the thickness between the slit and the external front surface of the frame, in correspondence with the zone where the hinges will be mounted, is about 20 mm, although there are market standards where said thickness is more than 20 mm. The width of the front surface is about 46 mm.

[0007] Furthermore, the thickness of the mobile members must also be considered, which normally, in the case of doors of buildings, both internal and external, is comprised between 40 mm and 50 mm.

[0008] Another feature to be considered in the state of the art is the degree of opening, or amplitude of rotation, of the mobile member with respect to the fixed structure. In fact, there are mobile members, for example doors, that can rotate only by 90°, or a little more, to pass from the closed position to the position of maximum opening, but there are also mobile members that must be able to open by 180°, to pass from the closed position to the position of maximum opening, just as there are also mobile members that must be able to perform intermediate rotations, between 90° and 180°.

[0009] To allow these different degrees of opening, each known retractable hinge comprises a first hinging body, suitable to be inserted into a corresponding first cavity of the mobile member, a second hinging body suitable to be inserted into a corresponding second cavity of the fixed structure, and a hinging mechanism which hinges the two hinging bodies with respect to each other so as to allow the mobile member to open with respect to the fixed structure by more than 90°. Usually the hinging mechanism is rather complex and comprises various articulated arms, pivoted on one or more fulcrums, even as many as seven.

[0010] These known hinges are therefore rather bulky and normally their hinging bodies have thicknesses, in depth, that is, in a direction orthogonal to their front surfaces, of more than 20 mm.

[0011] This entails that before mounting known hinges on the corresponding fixed structures, the seating for each hinge has to be made, by milling, with a part of the staff bead also being removed, to allow it to be inserted into the corresponding oblong slit of the fixed structure; otherwise there would be interference between the hinge and the staff bead.

[0012] This is a considerable disadvantage for those installing the fixtures, who thus take a long time to install the doors and windows, with a consequent increase in costs.

[0013] A retractable hinge for a door is known, from the US patent 2.694.216, which comprises two hinging bodies suitable to be inserted into two corresponding cavities, one made in the door and the other in the jamb. A hinging mechanism of the type with seven fulcrums articulates the two hinging bodies with respect to each other so as to allow the door to open with respect to the jamb by an angle of 180°. However, US 2.694.216 does not describe or provide the presence of any slit into which an ornamental finishing element can be inserted to cover from view the longitudinal edge of the jamb in correspondence with the corresponding wall.

[0014] The European patent application EP 2 476 836 A1 describes a retractable hinge that comprises two hinging bodies suitable to be inserted into two corresponding cavities, one made in the door and the other in the jamb. A U-shaped hinging joint articulates the two hinging bodies with respect to each other so as to allow the door to open with respect to the jamb by an angle of 180°. However, neither does EP 2 476 836 A1 describe or provide the presence of at least one slit into which an ornamental finishing element can be inserted to cover from view the longitudinal edge of the jamb in correspondence with the corresponding wall.

[0015] The European patent application EP 1 780 357 A2 also describes a retractable hinge that comprises two hinging bodies suitable to be inserted into two corresponding cavities, one made in the door and the other in the jamb. A hinging mechanism of the type with five fulcrums articulates the two hinging bodies with respect to each other so as to allow the door to open with respect to the jamb by an angle of 180°. However, neither does EP 1 780 357 A2 describe or provide the presence of at least one slit into which an ornamental finishing element can be inserted to cover from view the longitudinal edge of the jamb in correspondence with the corresponding wall.

[0016] Applicant has confronted and solved, in a new and original manner, the technical problem of obtaining various retractable hinges that are able to be installed in fixed structures and in mobile members, to be articulated with respect to each other, without the installer having to carry out preparatory working on the ornamental finishing element.

[0017] A first purpose of the present invention is therefore to produce a hinging apparatus for hinging a mobile member, such as for example a door or the panel of a piece of furniture, with respect to a fixed structure, such as for example the fixed frame of a door, or of a piece of furniture, using one or more retractable hinges, which is able to render simple and economical the assembly of the hinges on the fixed structure and on the mobile member, which are to be articulated with respect to each other, keeping the functional characteristics unchanged, including the degree of opening, of said hinges.

[0018] Another purpose of the present invention is to produce a hinging apparatus that allows to make the mobile member reversible with respect to the corresponding fixed structure, that is, it allows a determinate mobile member to be hinged on the corresponding fixed structure so that it can open in both a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction, without needing to prepare different seatings for the hinges.

[0019] The Applicant has devised, tested and embodied the present invention to overcome the shortcomings of the state of the art and to obtain these and other purposes and advantages.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0020] The present invention is set forth and characterized in the independent claim, while the dependent claims describe other characteristics of the invention or variants to the main inventive idea.

[0021] In accordance with the above purposes, a hinging apparatus according to the present invention, to hinge a mobile member with respect to a fixed structure, able to solve the technical problem described above in a new and original manner, comprises at least a retractable hinge articulated between the mobile member and the fixed structure. The hinging apparatus provides that the mobile member has a determinate first thickness, for example comprised between 40 mm and 50 mm, that the fixed structure comprises an oblong slit configured to be able to receive at least a part of an ornamental finishing element so as to hide from view at least the longitudinal edge of the fixed structure in correspondence with the wall, that the fixed structure, between the oblong slit and a corresponding external surface, has a second determinate thickness, comprised for example between 19 mm and 22 mm. Furthermore, each retractable hinge comprises a first hinging body configured to be inserted into a corresponding first cavity of the mobile member, a second hinging body configured to be inserted into a corresponding second cavity of the fixed structure, and a hinging mechanism which hinges the two hinging bodies with respect to each other so as to allow the mobile member to open with respect to the fixed structure by more than 90°.

[0022] According to a characteristic feature of the present invention, the depth of the second hinging body, at least in correspondence to the oblong slit for the ornamental finishing element, is equal to or less than the second determinate thickness of the fixed structure in correspondence with the oblong slit of the latter, so as not to interfere with the oblong slit so that, advantageously, the ornamental finishing element can be inserted into the oblong slit even after the hinge has been mounted in the corresponding cavities of the mobile member and the fixed structure.

[0023] Advantageously, when the thickness of the fixed structure in correspondence with the oblong slit of the latter is comprised between 19 mm and 22 mm, the depth of the second hinging body is comprised between 18 mm and 22 mm.

[0024] Furthermore, according to another characteristic of the present invention, the width of at least the first hinging body is less than the determinate thickness of the mobile member, so that the corresponding first cavity can be made centered with respect to this latter thickness, and therefore the mobile member can be installed reversibly with respect to the fixed structure, as is known to persons of skill in the art.

[0025] According to another characteristic feature of the present invention, each of the hinging bodies of the hinge is made using a metal sheet, which is sheared and bent. Advantageously, the depth of the first hinging body is equal to the thickness of the metal sheet.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF SOME FORMS OF EMBODIMENT

[0027] For a more simple presentation of the present invention, the same reference numbers are used for identical parts, or parts very similar to each other, in the different forms of embodiment.

[0028] In accordance with a first form of embodiment of the present invention, a hinging apparatus 10 (figs. 1, 2 and 3) comprises at least a hinge 11, of the retractable type, suitable to be used to articulate a generic mobile member 12, such as for example a door or a panel of a door or window or a piece of furniture, with respect to a fixed structure 13, consisting for example of the frame of the door or window or piece of furniture. The fixed structure 13 is configured to be attached to a wall W and has a longitudinal edge 13a in correspondence with the latter.

[0029] In this first form of embodiment the mobile member 12 is able to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction by an angle α of 180° between a closed position, shown in fig. 3, and a position of maximum opening, shown in figs. 1 and 2, and vice versa.

[0030] It is clear to any person of skill that, to better articulate the mobile member 12 with respect to the fixed structure 13, two or more hinges 11 can be mounted in a known manner on the fixed structure 12 and on the mobile member 13.

[0031] The hinge 11 comprises a first hinging body 14 (figs. 1 and 2), a second hinging body 15 and a hinging mechanism 16, suitable to hinge the two hinging bodies 14 and 15 with respect to each other.

[0032] The first hinging body 14 has a depth P1 (fig. 4) of about 30 mm, while the second hinging body 15, in the example given here, has a depth P2 of about 19 mm. The two hinging bodies 14 and 15 have the same width LA1 of about 34 mm.

[0033] The hinging mechanism 16 is the type with articulated arms with seven fulcrums, like for example the one described in the European patent application EP-A-2.390.446 as above, and is configured to allow the mobile member 12 to move with respect to the fixed structure 13 so that, in the position of maximum opening, there is a determinate gap LU1 (fig. 1) between the mobile member 12 and the fixed structure 13, for example about 10 mm, while in the closed position there is a determinate gap LU2 (fig. 3) between them, for example 4 mm.

[0034] The mobile member 12, at least in correspondence with one end 17 (fig. 4), has a determinate thickness S1, which is comprised between about 40 mm and about 50 mm and, in this case is 44 mm. In said end 17, the mobile member 12 is provided with a cavity 18, in which the first hinging body 14 of the hinge 11 is suitable to be housed with precision. The cavity 18 is centered and symmetrical with respect to the thickness S1 and has a depth equal to the depth P1 of the first hinging body 14.

[0035] The fixed structure 13, in correspondence with one end 19, is shaped so as to define a flat surface 20 and is provided with an oblong slit 21, shaped like an oblong fissure, parallel to the flat surface 20 and some millimeters wide, for example 4, in which an ornamental finishing element 22 of a known type is suitable to be disposed. The flat surface 20 has a width just bigger than the thickness S1 of the mobile member 12.

[0036] The ornamental finishing element 22 has a substantially L-shaped cross section and comprises a first arm 23, shorter, suitable to be inserted into the oblong slit 21, and a second arm 24, longer, suitable to remain outside so as to hide from view the longitudinal edge 13a of the fixed structure 13 and the corresponding edge of the wall W.

[0037] The thickness S2, that is, the distance between the flat surface 20 and the oblong slit 21 of the fixed structure 13, in the example given here is a market standard and is about 20 mm.

[0038] Furthermore, for each hinge 11, the fixed structure 13 comprises a cavity 25 (figs. 4 and 5) which is positioned centered and symmetrical with respect to the flat surface 20 and has a depth less than or equal to the thickness S2, but at least equal to depth P2 of the second hinging body 15.

[0039] According to a variant, shown in figs. 6 and 7, the hinging apparatus 10 allows the mobile member 12, completely reversibly with respect to the example in figs. 1 to 5, to rotate by the same angle α of 180° in a clockwise direction with respect to the fixed structure 13.

[0040] In accordance with a second form of embodiment of the present invention, shown in figs. 8 to 11, a hinging apparatus 110 comprises a hinge 111, of the retractable type, smaller in size than the hinge 11 previously described. The hinge 111 also comprises a hinging mechanism 116 of the type with articulated arms with seven fulcrums, but able to allow the mobile member 12 to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction by an angle α of about 120° to move from the closed position (figs. 8 and 9) to the position of maximum opening (figs. 10 and 11).

[0041] In this second form of embodiment, the first hinging body 114 has a depth P11 (fig. 9) of about 24.5 mm, while the second hinging body 115 has a depth P21 of about 18.5 mm. The two hinging bodies 114 and 115 have the same width LA11 of about 30 mm.

[0042] Furthermore, in the position of maximum opening of the mobile member 12 (fig. 11), there is a determinate first gap LU11 of about 3 mm between the mobile member 12 and the fixed structure 13 while, in the closed position, there is a determinate second gap LU21 (fig. 9) of about 4 mm between the fixed structure 13 and the mobile member 12.

[0043] The thicknesses S 1 and S2 are the same as those in the first form of embodiment previously described.

[0044] With this second form of embodiment too, the reversibility of the mobile member 12 with respect to the fixed structure 13 is obtained.

[0045] In accordance with a third form of embodiment of the present invention, shown in figs. 12 to 16, a hinging apparatus 210 comprises a hinge 211, also of the retractable type, but different both in conception and in size (which is smaller) with respect to the hinges 11 and 111 described before.

[0046] In fact, the hinge 211 is in itself new and original and comprises a hinging mechanism 216 having only one articulation arm 226, articulated on a single fulcrum 227 disposed on a corner of the second hinging body 215. The hinge 211 is able to allow the mobile member 12 to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction by an angle α of about 95°, to move from the closed position (figs. 12 and 13) to the position of maximum opening (figs. 14 and 15).

[0047] In this third form of embodiment, the first hinging body 214 and the articulation arm 226 of the hinge 211 are made in a single piece from a metal sheet, suitably sheared and bent, with a thickness of about 3 mm, so that the depth P12 (fig. 13) of the first hinging body 214 is the same as the thickness of the metal sheet, that is, about 3 mm. The second hinging body 215 is also made in a single piece from a metal sheet, suitably sheared and bent, with a thickness of about 3 mm and, in the zone where there is the oblong slit 21, has a depth P22 equal to, or slightly less than, the thickness S2 which in the example given here is about 20 mm. The second hinging body 215 also comprises a connection fin 228 (fig. 16), with the same thickness as the metal sheet, which in use is disposed in the cavity 25 of the fixed structure 13, but without interfering with the oblong slit 21, as can be seen in figs. 13 and 15. Therefore, the second hinging body 215, only in correspondence with the connection fin 228 which does not interfere with the oblong slit 21, has a depth P22' which is about 3 mm bigger than the depth P22 and hence also than the thickness S2.

[0048] The first hinging body 214 has a width LA12 (figs. 15 and 16) of about 22 mm, while the second hinging body 215 has a width LA22 (fig. 15) of about 28 mm.

[0049] The thicknesses S 1 and S2 are identical to those of the first two forms of embodiment as described before.

[0050] According to a variant of the third form of embodiment, shown in figs. 17 and 18, a hinge 311, having the same external sizes as hinge 211 and also made from a bent metal sheet, comprises a first hinging body 214 provided with a pair of articulation arms 326, parallel to each other and each terminating with a holed eyelet 329. The two holed eyelets 329 are coaxial with respect to each other.

[0051] The hinge 311 also comprises a second hinging body 315 provided with a pair of pins 340, coaxial to each other, which define the pivoting fulcrum of the first hinging body 314 and into which, during use, the two holed eyelets 329 are inserted. The lower pin 340 is attached on the lower wall of the second hinging body 315, while the upper pin 340 is supported by a small bracket 341 parallel to the upper and lower walls of the second hinging body 315.

[0052] In this way, the hinge 311 allows to assemble and dis-assemble the mobile member 12 to/from the fixed structure, as happens in traditional Anuba hinges.

[0053] With this third form of embodiment too, including its variant form, the reversibility of the mobile member 12 with respect to the fixed structure 13 is obtained.

[0054] From the above description it is clear that, in all three forms of embodiment of the hinging apparatus 10, 110, 210, including the variants, the depth P2, P21, P22 of the second hinging body 15, 115, 215, at least in correspondence with the oblong slit 21, is equal to or less than the determinate second thickness S2 of the fixed structure 13, so as not to interfere with said oblong slit 21, so that the ornamental finishing element 22 can be inserted into the oblong slit 21 even after the hinge 11, 111, 211, 311 has been mounted in the corresponding two cavities 18, 25.

[0055] It is also clear that the width LA1, LA11, LA 12 of the first hinging body 14, 114, 214, 314 is less than the determinate first thickness S1 of the mobile member 12, so that the first cavity 18 can be made centered with respect to the determinate first thickness S1, and therefore the mobile member 12 can be installed reversibly with respect to the fixed structure 13.

[0056] It is understood that modifications and/or additions of parts or sizes may be made to the hinging apparatuses 10, 110, 210 as described heretofore, without departing from the field and scope of the present invention.

[0057] It is also clear that, although the present invention has been described with reference to some specific examples, a person of skill in the art shall certainly be able to achieve many other equivalent forms of hinging apparatuses, having the characteristics as set forth in the claims and hence all coming within the field of protection defined thereby.
