[0001] The present application describes a input device water applicable for example in
filtration equipment for water reservoirs, especially swimming pools.
Background
[0002] The water filtration system of a swimming pool or water tank is composed by a set
of devices whose main function consists on the cleaning and treatment of the water.
The preferential equipment for introducing water into the system is usually called
skimmer, which allows the introduction of the water through an orifice or mouth usually
placed in the reservoir or pool wall.
[0003] In turn, the water will follow several steps of filtration and treatment until returning
inside the pool or tank of water. The skimmer is placed on the top of the walls of
the tank or pool as a preferential point of entry of the water into the filtration
system.
[0004] Currently, the market offers various types of skimmers. For example, the document
FR 0760061 presents a skimmer comprised by two independent parts, fixed in a swivel way. This
skimmer presents a flat bottom surface of the water entrance area on the pool side,
where the water stagnates, causing a loss of pressure during the suction. The mouth
tends to be parallelepiped until the entrance of the body of the skimmer. On the other
hand, the now disclosed device presents a descending platform to the body, with an
inverted funnel shape. The mouth does not allow the water mirror effect because of
its wide lips, with a low covering waterline.

EP 2453078 describes a skimmer with a funnel shape entrance for the conduction of the water
of the reservoir, connected to the water inlet which in turn is connected to the filter
system and body of discharge, however, it doesn't provide a descending platform until
the entrance of the skimmer body, which implies a lower possibility to obtain a water
mirror effect on said platform.

AU2009245820A1 describes a filtration system with a water inlet at the top and a compartment which
includes at least one chamber that includes a pump and a filter. The filter may include
a pair of side by side chambers parts, one of which carries the pump and the other
carrying the main filter with water from the first chamber to be pumped into the other
chamber by a pump. The shape of the inlet water of the state of the art installation
is parallelepiped which serves two chambers simultaneously, which involves a loss
of efficiency of entry of water. This is a device with different functionality of
the now disclosed device. Thus, the now presented device has an inverted descending
trapezium and does not include any pump. Furthermore it only has one chamber which
is intended for suction and has an adapted shape of an inverted funnel. Current skimmers
present a standard aspect, such as their inlets, presenting performances that are
closely related to the design of said parts.
[0007] The present application, in turn, discloses a device which allows to obtain an uniform
suction of the water without compromising its aesthetic side.
Summary
[0008] This application discloses an input device for water comprised by:
- A tunnel (17) with a inverted funnel shape attached to the skimmer body (15);
- An entrance on the side of the tank or pool;
- A descending platform to the skimmer body entrance (16);
- An outer finishing rim (3);
- A mirror (4);
- Ring seal (6);
- Inside flap (13) on the side of the tank or pool;
- Outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer.
[0009] In one embodiment, the tunnel profile (17) used for the device presents, on the side
of the reservoir or pool, a narrowest entrance compared to the exit tunnel (17) of
the device (1) water input to the filtering equipment.
[0010] In another embodiment, the entrance on the side of the tank or pool device shows
an expanded and flattened rectangular shape.
[0011] In another embodiment, the tunnel (17) of the device has a flat surface on the upper
part of said tunnel (17) and, on the lower part, a descending platform as a stylized
and horizontal "S" or inverted funnel of said tunnel (17).
[0012] In another embodiment, the device is attached to the skimmer body (15), becoming
a single piece.
[0013] In another embodiment, the mirror (4), outer finishing rim (3), inside flap (13)

[0016] The present application further describes a method of assembling the input device
for water comprising the following steps of:
- assembly of the walls (11) of the reservoir or pool;
- making a cut on the top of the walls (11) of the reservoir or pool;
- union of the said input device (1) water to the skimmer;
- connection of the side of the skimmer and the side of the pool or reservoir between
the outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer and the seal ring (6);
- the input device (1) water is inserted vertically into the previously made cut in
the walls (11) of the pool or tank;
- connection between the inside flap (13) to the wall (11);
- immobilization of PVC screen (12) or other waterproof coating;
- placing the outer finishing rim (3) into the holes;
- placing of the mirror (4) by clamping, anchoring, docking and/or lateral screw.
[0017] In another embodiment, the bonding step of said input device (1) water to the skimmer
is performed by placing the seal ring (6), previously pierced, against the outside
flap (14) on the side of the skimmer and the skimmer body entrance (16).
[0018] In another embodiment, the immobilization of the PVC screen (12) or another waterproof
coating is made by the tightening of said PVC screen (12) or another coating by sealing
rings (6) on the inside flap (13) on the side of the reservoir or pool.

Description of the embodiments
[0024] The input device (1) for water filtration equipment, especially if used for water
tank, particularly for swimming pools, presents its own configuration, whose entrance
on the side of the pool or reservoir presents an expanded and flattened rectangular
shape, and whose tunnel (17), shaped like an inverted, adapted and descendent funnel,
is attached to the skimmer body (15), becoming a single piece, the said equipment
designed skimmer. The present device can also further comprise a locking ring (2).
[0025] Seen in profile, the bottom of the tunnel (17) of the input device (1) for water
filtration equipment for swimming pools or water reservoir is shaped as a stylized
horizontal "S" and the upper side of the tunnel presents a flat surface. That means,
in profile, the tunnel (17) of the input device (1) for water filtration equipment
for swimming pools or water reservoir is presented with an narrower entrance on the
side of the pool or tank than the exit part of the tunnel (17) of the input device
(1) for water filtration equipment for swimming pools or water reservoir, on the skimmer
body (15) side, allowing their coupling and docking, thereby forming a skimmer.
[0026] The configuration and adapted shape of the tunnel (17) of the input device (1) water
for filtration equipment for swimming pool or water tank maximizes the entrance of
the water into the skimmer body (15), because of its inverted funnel shape with a
descending platform to the skimmer body entrance (16) and therefore inside the filtration
system, allowing gains of efficiency of water filtering. The shape of the tunnel (17)
tend to present a constant section. The increasing of the height of the skimmer body
entrance (16) compensates the tightening of the input device (1) on the water pool
or reservoir entrance side, in order to keep the sections of water passage more uniform
through the water path in the tunnel (17), enhancing a flow of water at a constant
speed, reducing pressure losses and stagnation of water and consequent accumulation
of foam and dirt. If lower is the variation of the section, smaller will be the change
of water flow speed.
[0027] Furthermore, the entrance of the input water device (1) to the filtration equipment,
on the pool or tank side, has an adapted configuration which enhances the suction
efficiency because it covers a bigger surface of water compared to the standard models,
with significant gains of suction of usually more stagnant areas, such as the corners
of the pool or the cleaning of the water line. The adapted rectangular and expanded
configuration of the input water device (1) side of the reservoir is flattened on
the water surface. The suction of water is more efficient because the device configuration
(1) has a larger area of influence / scope of water compared to the mouths of existing
skimmers. By increasing the coverage area/influence, the speed of suction tends to
be more constant, fostering a less turbulent and more gentle aspiration with gains
of sensory comfort to obtain a "Current calmer" sensation near the entrance of the
input device (1).
[0028] The input device (1) for water filtration equipment for swimming pools or water reservoir
has a configuration that enhances the flow of water into the skimmer body (15), reducing
areas of stagnant water with the consequent formation of algae, because of the reduced
size of the tunnel (17) and the steep slope on the inner area and the bottom of said
tunnel (17), when compared to prior art devices, resulting in lower load loss of water
compared to the mouths skimmers on the market. The slope seeks to maintain a constant
section throughout the tunnel (17) of the input device (1). The bottom of the tunnel
(17) of the input device (1) for water is descending, attending to the form of stylized
and horizontal "S", and the inverted funnel, through which the water flows to the
skimmer body (15). With this new configuration, there is less stagnant water with
consequent reduction of algae formation.
[0029] Furthermore, the configuration and elements that compose the input water device (1)
allows to obtain a optimum glass of water effect, because it allows to get higher
the water pool level at a higher elevation, due to the low relief of the mirror (4)
or outer finishing rim (3), and the inside flap (13) and outside flap (14), getting
the water level closer to the edge of the pool or water tank. The input water device
orifice (1) for filtration equipment merges the aesthetics of the pool, being discreet,
following the water line, in contrast to existing models that require the display
of an entrance unsightly and less efficient aspiration. The input water device (1)
for filtration equipment for pools or water tank presents an adaptive configuration
to prior art skimmer body (15). The input device (1) comprises the thickness of the
device (1) of the side of the tank, to which the mirror frame (4), outer rim finishing
(3), inside flap (13) and outer flap (14), and that turn, reproduce the effect "low
relief / thickness".
[0030] The input water device (1) for filtration equipment for swimming pool or water tank
is comprised by a tunnel (17) with an adapted and inverted funnel shape, which can
be manufactured in metallic material, for example stainless steel, obtained by bending,
yielding sharp edges, welded, allowing that the input device (1) is more resistant
to bending, compressive and flexural strength and greater resistance to mechanical
shocks, thereby improving their storage, transportation and using at the fieldwork
and longevity compared to the deterioration of the materials because of the pool or
reservoir of water cleaning or treatment products. This input device (1) may also
be fabricated of rigid polymeric material.
[0031] The input device (1) for water filtration equipment for swimming pools or water reservoir
is further comprised by a set of fastening and bonding accessories, such as an outer
finishing rim (3), which may be made by stainless steel or rigid polymeric material;
a mirror (4), which may be made by stainless steel or rigid polymeric material; ring
seal (6), inside flap (13) on the side of the pool or reservoir and an outside flap
(14) on the side skimmer.
Assembly description
[0032] After the completed assembly of the walls (11) of the pool or reservoir, proceed
to the union of the input device (1) for water filtration equipment for pool or water
tank to the skimmer body (15).
[0033] The union is made by the placing of the seal ring (6), pre-drilled and with adhesive
face to the outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer and the skimmer body entrance
(16), avoiding the clogging of its orifices. This flap is intended to improve the
fixation, guiding and coupling among the input device (1) for water filtration equipment
of tank or pool to the skimmer body (15), allowing the solidarity and stability of
the assembly.
[0034] It follows the bolting or gluing, in the case of use of polymeric material, horizontally
and in the direction of the skimmer side to side of the pool or tank, which makes
the tightening between the outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer, the ring
seal (6) and the skimmer body entrance (16) using mechanical connection, preferably
using screws (7).
[0035] Next, the input device (1) for water filtration equipment for pools or water reservoir
is inserted vertically and in the same level as the walls (11) of the pool or reservoir,
which may be by metal or concrete. The wall (11) has a cut previously made in the
upper part with the adjusted dimension to fit the input device (1) for water filtration
equipment for swimming pools or water reservoir.
[0036] It follows the bolting of the inside flap (13) of the side of the pool or reservoir
to the wall (11), previously drilled, in the factory. The screw is done horizontally,
towards the interior of the pool or water tank to the wall (11), joining the inside
flap (13) of the pool side to the wall (11), using mechanical connection, for example
screws (7) in the recessed existing holes of the inside flap (13) on the pool side,
obtaining a regular surface to allow the immobilization and fixing of the input device
(1) for water filtration equipment for pools or water reservoir to the pool structure,
in particular wall (11).
[0037] It follows the immobilization of the PVC screen (12), by tightening the PVC screen
or other waterproof coating using seal rings (6), adhesives, pre-drilled on the inside
flap (13) on the side of the reservoir or pool.
[0038] Following, the placing of the outer finishing rim (3), preferably of stainless steel,
pre-drilled, fixed by screwing or gluing in their respective holes, horizontally towards
the side of the pool to the wall (11) pool, putting together, the outer finishing
rim (3), sealing rings (6) and PVC screen (12) or other waterproof coating to the
inside flap (13) on the side of the pool, causing the tightening of all these elements
and ensuring the tightness. It is used a mechanical connection, preferably screws
(7), to enable the fitting of the recessed holes existing in the outer finishing rim
(3), obtaining a smooth surface for subsequent placing of the mirror (4).
[0039] It ends with the placing of the mirror (4), with an "U" profile by clipping, preferably
stainless steel.
[0040] This present realization is not a restricted way of the embodiments described herein
and a person with ordinary skill in the area can provide plenty of changes without
departing from the general idea, as defined in the claims.
[0041] The preferred embodiments described above are obviously combined with each other.
The following claims define further preferred embodiments.
1. Input device comprising:
- A tunnel (17), with an inverted funnel shape, attached to the skimmer body (15);
- An entrance on the side of the reservoir or pool;
- A descending platform until the skimmer body entrance (16);
- A outer finishing rim (3);
- A mirror (4);
- A seal ring (6);
- An inside flap (13) on the side of the reservoir or pool;
- An outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer.
2. Input device according to the previous claim, wherein the profile of said tunnel (17)
presents a narrower entrance on the side of the reservoir or pool than the exit of
the tunnel (17) of the input device (1) for water filtration equipment.
3. Input device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the entrance on
the side of the reservoir or pool presents an expanded flattened rectangular shape.
4. Input device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the tunnel (17)
presents a flat surface on the upper part of said tunnel (17) and a descending platform
as a stylized and horizontal "S" or as an inverted funnel of the lower platform of
the said tunnel (17).
5. Input device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein said device is attached
to the skimmer body (15) becoming a single piece.
6. Input device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the mirror (4),
the outer finishing rim (3), the inside flap (13) and the outside flap (14) present
a low relief.
7. Device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the tunnel (17) presents
a constant cross-section.
8. Device according to any one of the previous claims, wherein the inside flap (13) comprises
orifices.
9. Method of assembly of the input device described in any one of the previous claims,
comprised by the following steps:
- assembly of walls (11) of the reservoir or pool;
- making a cut on the top of the walls (11) of the reservoir or pool;
- Union of said input device (1) water to the skimmer;
- Connection of the side of the skimmer and the side of the pool or reservoir between
the outside flap (14) on the side of the skimmer and the seal ring (6);
- The said input device (1) water is inserted vertically into the previously made
cut in the walls (11) of the pool or tank;
- Connection between the inside flap (13) to the wall (11);
- Immobilization of PVC screen (12) or other waterproof coating;
- Placing the outer finishing rim (3) into the holes;
- Placing of the mirror (4) by clamping, anchoring, docking, and/or lateral screw.
10. Method according to the previous claim, wherein the step of the union of the said
device (1) water inlet to the skimmer is performed by placing the seal ring (6), predrilled,
on the outside flap (14) of the side skimmer and the skimmer body entrance (16).
11. Method according to the claim 9, wherein the immobilization of the PVC screen (12)
or other waterproof coating is effected by tightening of said PVC screen (12) or other
covers using sealing rings (6) on the inside flap (13), on the side of the tank or
pool.
12. Method according to the previous claim, wherein the sealing rings (6) have been previously
drilled.
13. Filter equipment comprising the input device (1) water described in any one of claims
1 to 8.
14. Reservoir comprising the device (1) water inlet described in any one of claims 1 to
8.
15. Swimming pool comprising a device (1) water inlet described in any one of claims 1
to 8.
