A method of modification of a bentonite and a method of application of modified bentonite
to polymer resins |
(57) The subject of the invention is a method of modifying bentonite which is used especially
as a filler of polymer resins and a method of application of a modified bentonite
to polymer resins.
A method of modification of bentonite lies in the fact that into a mixer of the granular
products, preferably a drum mixer of type V, what is added at 20 - 30 ° C is a finely
divided bentonite with a grain size of less than 0,006 mm and from 28 to 35 g comminuted
to a grain size of not more than 0,006 mm modifier per 100g of bentonite, as the bentonite
modifiers the following were used: quaternary ammonium salts with four aliphatic substituents
or with one benzyl or phenyl and 3-alkyl: ethyl, butyl, or a radical of the longer-chain
and / or quaternary phosphonium salts of the three aromatic substituents: phenyl or
benzyl, and one alkyl: ethyl, butyl or longer-chain radicals, as well as derivatives
polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS): oktakis (tetramethylammonium)-octasilsesquioxane
or oktakis {3 - (N-(hydroxyethyl)-dimethylamino) propyl}-octasilsesquioxane or aminopropylisobutyl
octasilsesquioxane, mixing process is carried out using a rotational speed of 35 to
451/min during 8-14 hours.
A method of application of the modified bentonite to polymer resins according to the
invention lies in the fact that the modified bentonite is introduced in an amount
of 0.1-10,0 g, preferably 1-4 g, and 100 g of a liquid epoxy resin or a polyester
or polyurethane, and then the mixture is homogenized with resin by multistage stirring:
for premixing with a low-speed mechanical stirrer at a stirrer speed of 100 - 200
1/min, to full wetting, then, using an ultrasonic homogenizer at a temperature of
40-60oC for at least 10 min and subsequently with a high shear mixer 1/min 6000-10000
during 15-30 min, preferably under reduced pressure in a homogenizer of the cylinder-type
in the cylinder at high shear providing a rotational speed of 3000-6000 1/min for
15-25 min..
