Field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates in a first aspect to a room partitioning system and
in a second aspect to the use of such a room portioning system.
Background of the invention
[0002] In various types of commercial and private situations, it is advantageous to be able
to setup a system which partitions a room into two or more portioned rooms. Such situations
include room partitioning of offices, of show rooms, of exhibition stalls, and of
rooms in private houses etc.
[0003] Traditionally, partitioning of rooms has been accomplished by building in a room
a structural framework of wood or metallic beams and girders. Subsequently, this structural
framework will be provided with a panel in the form of sheet like material, thus a
obtaining a division of partition of the room.
[0004] Also modular systems for providing a partitioning of a room are known. Accordingly,
US 3,998,018 discloses a system for forming a building partition, Wall panels arc secured to opposite
sides of vertically extending studs. A metal base member capable of rapid attachment
to the edge of a wall panel which base member defines a clip supporting slot. A clip
is slidably engageable in the slot at diverse horizontal positions therealong so that
the panels can be attached to studs notwithstanding minor differences In widths of
the panels. The clip and the stud cooperate so that the panels can be removed without
destruction of the panel, if such becomes necessary during relocation of a partition.
[0005] EP 0 438 951 A1 discloses a room partitioning system comprising profiles 7, 8 frame profiles 13,15
and intermediate connection clips 9, where the profiles the profiles 7,8 may be attached
to by using the clips 9. The profile 7 comprises means for providing direct engagement
with a recess arranged on the frame profiles. The clip 9 of
EP 0 438 951 does not in itself provide attachement of two different profile elements to each
other.
[0006] The prior art systems, however, lack flexibility in that it is not suitable for building
room partitionings having a high degree of variations of geometries. Furthermore,
this system is not suitable for building room partitionings in the middle of a room
without making use of the walls of the rooms, such as it is customary in the case
of building a show room or an exhibition stall at an exhibition venue.
[0007] Also, in the prior art systems, the mechanical connections and fastenings between
the various components are often visible, thus resulting in a rather unaesthetic appearance.
[0008] Accordingly, there is a need for an improved system for partitioning rooms.
[0009] It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved system for partitioning
rooms which allows for easy and fast setup and dismantling, even in the middle of
an existing room without making use of that room's walls, and which allows for designing
a wide variety of geometries, and which further provides for an aesthetic appearance,
in that the means connecting various elements of the system are hidden behind the
visible parts of the system,
Brief description of the invention
[0010] The object of the present invention is achieved by a room partitioning system according
to claim 1, and by the use according to claim 18. Preferred embodiments of the invention
are defined in the dependent claims 2 - 17 and 19,
[0011] Accordingly, the present invention relates in a first aspect to a room partitioning
system comprising:
one or more partitioning profiles;
one or more frame profiles;
one or more connecting clips;
wherein said one or more partitioning profiles is having an extension in a longitudinal
direction X and an extension in a transverse direction Y and wherein said one or more
partitioning profiles comprises a front surface and a rear surface, and wherein said
front surface comprises a longitudinally extending recess for accommodating a connecting
clip;
wherein said one or more frame profiles is having an extension in a longitudinal direction
X and an extension in a transverse direction Y, and wherein said one or more frame
profiles comprises a front surface and a rear surface, and wherein said front surface
comprises a longitudinally extending recess for accommodating a room partitioning
sheet; and wherein said rear surface comprises a longitudinally extending recess for
accommodating a connecting clip;
wherein said one or more connecting clips comprise a sheet like material comprising
a first set of protrusions and a second set of protrusions;
wherein the dimensions and topographies of the one or more partitioning profiles,
the one or more frame profiles, and the one or more connecting clips, respectively,
are adapted to each other so as to enable the first set of protrusion of the one or
more clips to engage with the longitudinally extending recess of one or more of the
partitioning profiles; and so as to allow the second set of protrusions of the one
or more connecting clips to engage with the longitudinally extending recess of the
rear surface of one or more of the frame profiles; thereby allowing locking one or
more partitioning profiles to an associated frame profile via said one or more connecting
clips.
[0012] In a second aspect the present invention relates to a use of the room partitioning
system according to the first aspect for partitioning a room.
[0013] The room partitioning system according to the present invention provides an improved
system for partitioning rooms which allows for easy and fast setup and dismantling,
even in the middle of an existing room without making use of that room's walls, and
which allows for designing a wide variety of geometries, and which further provides
for an aesthetic appearance, in that the means connecting various elements of the
system are hidden behind the visible parts of the system.

Detailed description of the invention
The first aspect of the present invention
[0015] In the first aspect, the present invention relates to a room partitioning system
(200) comprising:
one or more partitioning profiles (300);
one or more frame profiles (400);
one or more connecting clips (500);
wherein said one or more partitioning profiles (300) is having an extension in a longitudinal
direction X and an extension in a transverse direction Y and wherein said one or more
partitioning profiles (300) comprises a front surface (2) and a rear surface (4),
and wherein said front surface comprises a longitudinally extending recess (6) for
accommodating a connecting clip (500);
wherein said one or more frame profiles (400) is having an extension in a longitudinal
direction X and an extension in a transverse direction Y, and wherein said one or
more frame profiles comprises a front surface (8) and a rear surface (10), and wherein
said front surface (8) comprises a longitudinally extending recess (12) for accommodating
a room partitioning sheet (600); and wherein said rear surface comprises a longitudinally
extending recess (14) for accommodating a connecting clip (500);
wherein said one or more connecting clips (500) comprise a sheet like material (16)
comprising a first set of protrusions (18) and a second set of protrusions (20);
wherein the dimensions and topographies of the one or more partitioning profiles (300),
the one or more frame profiles (400), and the one or more connecting clips (500),
respectively, are adapted to each other so as to enable the first set of protrusions
(18) of the one or more clips (500) to engage with the longitudinally extending recess
(6) of one or more of the partitioning profiles (300); and so as to allow the second
set of protrusions (20) of the one or more connecting clips (500) to engage with the
longitudinally extending recess (14) of the rear surface (10) of one or more of the
frame profiles (400); thereby allowing locking one or more partitioning profiles (300)
to an associated frame profile (400) via said one or more connecting clips (500).
[0016] Accordingly, the room partitioning system according to the present invention comprises
one or more partitioning profiles (300); one or more frame profiles (400) and one
or more connecting clips (500). The geometries and dimensions of the one or more partitioning
profiles (300); one or more frame profiles (400) and one or more connecting clips
(500), respectively, are adapted so as to allow one or more clips to connect one of
the one or more partitioning profiles (300) to one of the one or more frame profiles
(400).
[0017] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, the room partitioning
system (200) further comprises a sheet material (600) having a thickness that is adapted
to allow accommodation of part of said sheet material into the longitudinally extending
recess (12) of the front surface (8) of one or more of the frame profiles (400).
[0018] Accommodating a sheet material (600) having a thickness that is adapted to allow
accommodation of part of said sheet material into the longitudinally extending recess
(12) of the front surface (8) of one or more of the frame profiles (400) allows for
using a framework comprising a number of partitioning profiles (300) connected to
one or more frame profiles (400) by one or more connecting clips (500) as a framework
for partitioning a room, wherein the sheet material itself provides for the major
part of the partitioning.
[0019] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, one or more of the
partitioning profiles (300) having a longitudinally extending recess (6) on the front
surface (2) thereof as well as a longitudinally extending recess (22) on the rear
surface (4) thereof.
[0020] This embodiment ensures that one or more frame profiles (400) may be attached by
clips (500) on both sides of a partitioning profile (300).
[0021] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, the partitioning
system (200) further comprising one or more supporting columns (24), each said supporting
columns having one or more longitudinally extending surfaces (26) comprising a longitudinally
extending protrusion (28) which is adapted to be able to be accommodated by a longitudinally
extending recess (22) of the rear surface (4) of the partitioning profile (300).
[0022] A supporting column (24) may be used as a vertical support for one or more partitioning
profiles (300) and thus provides for strengthening the structural integrity of the
room partitioning system (200).
[0023] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, the room partitioning
system (200) further comprising one or more connection rods (30), said one or more
connection rods is having two ends (32,34); cach said end is having dimensions and
topographies allowing said end to be longitudinally inserted into a longitudinally
extending recess (14) of said one or more frame profiles, in an end thereof; thereby
enabling extending two or more frame profiles (400).

straight-lines or angled, such as angled at an angle of 5 - 120°, such as 10 - 115°,

- 90°, such as 40 - 85°, e.g. 45 - 80°, such as 50 - 75°, e.g. 55 - 70°, such as 60

[0025] The connecting rods provide for extending two or more frame profiles (400), either
in a straight lined fashion, or in an angled fashion.
[0026] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, one or more partitioning
profiles (300) comprises one or more longitudinally extending holes (36) at an end
thereof; and wherein said room partitioning system additionally comprising one or
more threaded rods (38) and/or screws (40) adapted to fit and to be screwed into said
one or more longitudinally extending holes (36).
[0027] This ensures that a partitioning profile (300) may be connected and secured to another
partitioning profile (300), either as a linear extension or angel at an angle such
as an angle of 90°. The connection and securing may be accomplished by using a self-threading
screw or by using a threaded rod. In order to secure a threaded rod into the longitudinal
hole in a partitioning profile (300), the threaded rod is inserted into the longitudinally
extending hole, whereafter the partitioning profile (300) at a location of the inserted
rod is subjected to a small mechanical deformation, e.g. by hammering the outside
surface of the partitioning profile (300).
[0028] In one embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention, the room partitioning
system (200) furthermore comprising one or more cover profiles comprising an extension
in a longitudinal direction X, and an extension in a transverse direction Y, wherein
said one or more cover profiles comprises a front surface and a rear surface, and
wherein only said rear surface comprises a longitudinally extending recess, said recess
having dimensions and geometry which allows the first set of protrusions (18) of the
one or more connecting clips (500) to engage with said longitudinally extending recess
of the rear surface of one or more of the cover profiles; thereby allowing locking
one or more partitioning profiles (300) to an associated cover profile via said one
or more connecting clips (500).

extending along a surface of a partitioning profile (300). This will provide an improved
aesthetic appearance of the partitioning profile (300) at positions where no sheet
material is going to be accommodated.

The second aspect of the present invention
[0045] In a second aspect, the present invention relates to a use of a room partitioning
system (200) according to the first aspect of the present invention for partitioning
a room.
[0046] In one embodiment of the second aspect of the present invention, said room is an
office room, a show room, an exhibition stall or exhibition booth, or a room in a
private home.
[0047] Referring now in details to the drawings for the purpose of illustrating preferred
embodiments of the present invention, fig. 1 shows a cross-sectional view of one embodiment
of a partitioning profile 300 of a room partitioning system according to the invention.
The partitioning profile is having an extension in a longitudinal direction X (in
a direction perpendicular to the paper) and an extension in a transverse direction
Y. The partitioning profile 300 comprises a front surface 2 and a rear surface 4 and
a first longitudinal rim 64 and a second longitudinal rim 66.
[0048] Furthermore, the partitioning profile 300 comprises on its the front surface and
on Its rear surface a longitudinally extending recess 6 for accommodating a connecting
clip 500 as disclosed in more detail below.
[0049] The longitudinally extending recess 6 for accommodating a connecting clip 500 is
defined by the space between a first longitudinally oriented protrusion 68 and a second
longitudinally oriented protrusion 70 extending in a direction Z, perpendicular to

extending recess 6 for accommodating a connecting clip thereby defines a longitudinally
oriented cavity 72 in a middle part of said profile; said cavity is having an opening
part 74 and a bottom part 76.

direction, is larger than the extension, in a transverse direction, in its opening
part 74, it is possible to lock a connecting clip in the cavity 72. This is elaborated
in further detail below. The partitioning profile 300 shown in fig. 1 is symmetrical
in that the geometry and the dimensions of its front surface is Identical to the geometry
and the dimensions of its rear surface.
[0051] Fig. 2 shows a cross-sectional view of one embodiment of a frame profile 400 of a
room partitioning system 200 according to the present invention. The frame profiles
400 is having an extension in a longitudinal direction X (in a direction perpendicular
to the paper) and an extension in a transverse direction Y. The frame profile comprises
a front surface 8 and a rear surface 10. It is seen in fig. 2 that the front surface
8 comprises a longitudinally extending recess 12 for accommodating a room partitioning
sheet 600 (not shown in fig. 2). Also shown in fig, 2 is a longitudinally extending
recess 14, arranged on the rear surface of the frame profile, for accommodating a
connecting clip 500, as explained below.
[0052] The frame profile 400 furthermore comprises on its rear surface a first longitudinal
rim 78 and a second longitudinal rim 80; wherein said first longitudinal rim 78 and
said second longitudinal rim 80 extends in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal

[0056] Fig. 3a shows in a perspective view one embodiment of a connecting clip 500 of a
room partitioning system according to the invention. The connecting clip is made of
a sheet like material 16 comprising a first set of protrusions 18 and a second set
of protrusions 20. The sheet like material is having a U-shaped middle section 102
which in turn comprises an arch section 104 having a first side 106 and a second side
108. A first wall section 110 is extending from a first side of the arch section and
a second wall section 112 is extending from a second side of the arch section. A first
wing section 114 extends from the first wall section in a direction essentially perpendicular
thereto and having an outer rim 118. A second wing section 116 extends from the second
wall section in a direction essentially perpendicular thereto and having an outer
rim 120. In this way, the first wing section and said second wing section constitute
the first set of protrusions 18. Furthermore, the U-shaped middle section 102 comprises
a first locking flap 122 extending from the first side of the arch section; wherein
said U-shaped middle section comprises a second locking flap 124 extending from the
second side of the arch section. In this way, the first and second locking flaps constitute
the second set of protrusions 20.

[0058] Fig. 4 illustrates the principle of the present invention and shows how a connecting
clip 500 is able to connect and lock a partitioning profile 300 of a room partitioning
system to a frame profile 400 of a room partitioning system according to the invention.
Fig 4 shows partitioning profile 300 of a room partitioning system having a front
surface 2 and a rear surface 4. Both the front surface and the rear surface comprise
a longitudinally extending longitudinally extending recess 6 for accommodating a connecting
clip 500. The connecting clip 500 is locked to the partitioning profile 300 by accommodating

direction from the room partitioning sheet material 600 outwards, and in a vertical
direction from the room partitioning sheet material 600 upwards.

corresponding to the position of the threaded rods, e.g. by applying a force by hammering
onto the surface of the partitioning profiles 300, said partitioning profiles 300
may be locked and fixed to each other.

1. A room partitioning system (200) comprising:

direction X and an extension in a transverse direction Y, and wherein said one or

said front surface (8) comprises a longitudinally extending recess (12) for accommodating
a room partitioning sheet (600); and wherein said rear surface comprises a longitudinally
extending recess (14) for accommodating a connecting clip (500);
wherein said one or more connecting clips (500) comprise a sheet like material (16)
comprising a first set of protrusions (18) and a second set of protrusions (20);
wherein the dimensions and topographies of the one or more partitioning profiles (300),
the one or more frame profiles (400), and the one or more connecting clips (500),
respectively, are adapted to each other so as to enable the first set of protrusions
(18) of the one or more clips (500) to engage with the longitudinally extending recess
(6) of one or more of the partitioning profiles (300); and so as to allow the second
set of protrusions (20) of the one or more connecting clips (500)to engage with the
longitudinally extending recess (14) of the rear surface (10) of one or more of the
frame profiles (400); thereby allowing locking one or more partitioning profiles (300)
to an associated frame profile (400) via said one or more connecting clips (500).
2. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 1 further comprising a sheet material
(600) having a thickness that is adapted to allow accommodation of part of said sheet
material into the longitudinally extending recess (12) of the front surface (8) of
one or more of the frame profiles (400).
3. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 1 or 2 comprising one or more
partitioning profiles (300) having a Longitudinally extending recess (6) on the front
surface (2) thereof as well as a longitudinally extending recess (22) on the rear
surface (6) thereof.
4. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 3 further comprising one or more
supporting columns (24), each said supporting columns having one or more longitudinally
extending surfaces (26) comprising a longitudinally extending protrusion (28) which
is adapted to be able to be accommodated by a longitudinally extending recess (22)
of the rear surface (4) of the partitioning profile (300).
5. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1-4 further comprising
one or more connection rods (30), said one or more connection rods is having two ends
(32,34); each said end is having dimensions and topographies allowing said end to
be longitudinally Inserted into a longitudinally extending recess (14) of said one
or more frame profiles, in an end thereof; thereby enabling extending two or more
frame profiles (400).
6. A room partitioning system according to claim 5, wherein said one or more connection
rods (30), are straight-lines or angled, such as angled at an angle of 5 - 120°, such
as 10 - 115°, e.g. 15 - 110°, such as 20 - 105°, for example 25 - 100°, e.g. 30 -
95°, such as 35 - 90°, such as 40 - 85°, e.g. 45 - 80°, such as 50 - 75°, e.g. 55
- 70°, such as 60 - 65°.
7. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1 - 6, wherein one
or more partitioning profiles (300) comprises one or more longitudinally extending
holes (36) at an end thereof; and wherein said room partitioning system additionally
comprising one or more threaded rods (38) and/or screws (40) adapted to fit and to
be screwed into said one or more longitudinally extending holes (36).
8. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1 - 7 furthermore
comprising one or more cover profiles comprising an extension in a longitudinal direction
X, and an extension in a transverse direction Y, wherein said one or more cover profiles
comprises a front surface and a rear surface, and wherein only said rear surface comprises
a longitudinally extending recess, said recess having dimensions and geometry which
allows the first set of protrusions (18) of the one or more connecting clips (500)
to engage with said longitudinally extending recess of the rear surface of one or
more of the cover profiles; thereby allowing locking one or more partitioning profiles
(300) to an associated cover profile via said one or more connecting clips (500).
9. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims I - 8 furthermore
comprising a ground profile (50), said ground profile comprising a lower profile (52)
and an upper profile (54), said lower profile and said upper profile are having an
extension in a longitudinal direction X, and an extension in a transverse direction
Y; wherein said lower profiles comprises means (56) for fastening said lower profile
to the ground and wherein said upper profile is comprising a cavity (58) adapted to
accommodate at least part of said lower profile and wherein said upper profile comprises
a top surface (60), said top surface comprising a longitudinally extending protrusion
(62) adapted to be accommodated in the longitudinally extending recess (22) on the
rear surface of a partitioning profile.
10. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1 - 9, wherein said
one or more partitioning profiles (300) comprises;
a profile having a front surface (2) and a rear surface (4), said front surface and
said rear surface having an extension in a longitudinal direction X and in a transverse
direction Y; said front surface comprising a first longitudinal rim (64) and a second
longitudinal rim (66);
wherein said longitudinally extending recess (6), being arranged on the front surface
(2), for accommodating a connecting clip (500) is defined by the space between a first
and a second longitudinally oriented protrusion (68,70) extending in a direction Z
perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X and to the transverse direction Y, said
longitudinally extending recess (6) for accommodating a connecting clip thereby defining
a longitudinally oriented cavity (72) in a middle part of said profile; said cavity
having an opening part (74) and a bottom part (76);
wherein said cavity is having an extension, in a transverse direction, in its bottom
part (76) which is larger than the extension, in a transverse direction, in its opening
part (74).
11. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1-10, wherein said
one or more frame profiles (400) comprises;
a profile having a front surface (8) and a rear surface (10), said front surface and
said rear surface having an extension in a longitudinal direction X and an extension
in a transverse direction Y; said rear surface comprising a first longitudinal rim
(78) and a second longitudinal rim (80);
wherein said first longitudinal rim (78) and said second longitudinal rim (80) extending
in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X and to the transverse
direction Y;
wherein said longitudinally extending recess (14) for accommodating a connecting clip
(500) on the rear surface (10) is defined by the space between a first longitudinally
oriented L-shaped protrusion (82) and a second longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion
(84), both extending partly in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction
X and to the transverse direction Y, thereby defining a longitudinally oriented cavity
(86) having a longitudinal opening (88) in a middle part of said profile; said cavity
having an opening part (90) and a bottom part (92);
wherein said cavity is having an extension, in a transverse direction, at its bottom

one or more connecting clips (500) comprises:
a sheet like material comprising a U-shaped middle section (102); said U-shaped middle
section comprises an arch section (104) having a first side (106) and a second side
(108), a first wall section (110) extending from a first side of the arch section;
a second wall section (112) extending from a second side of the arch section; wherein
a first wing section (114) extends from the first wall section In a direction essentially
perpendicular thereto and having an outer rim (118); wherein a second wing section
(116) extends from the second wall section in a direction essentially perpendicular
thereto and having an outer rim (120); said first wing section and said second wing
section thereby forming said first set of protrusions (18); wherein said U-shaped
middle section comprises a first locking flap (122) extending from the first side
of the arch section; wherein said U-shaped middle section comprises a second locking
flap (124) extending from the second side of the arch section; said first and second
locking flap thereby forming said second set of protrusions (20).
13. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 3, wherein said longitudinally
extending recess (6), arranged on the front surface (2) and wherein said longitudinally
extending recess (22) arranged on the rear surface (4), for accommodating a connecting
clip, is defined by the space between a first and a second longitudinally oriented
protrusion (6) extending in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction
X and to the transverse direction Y, on said front surface (2) and on said rear surface
(4), said longitudinally extending recess (6) for accommodating a connecting clip
thereby defining a longitudinally oriented cavity (72) in a middle part of said profile;
said cavity having an opening part (74) and a bottom part (76); wherein said cavity
is having an extension, in a transverse direction, in its bottom part (76) which is
larger than the extension, in a transverse direction, in its opening part (74).
14. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 4, wherein the geometry of the
one or more surfaces of the supporting columns comprises two recesses (126,126') and
one protrusion (28) so as to be able to engage with the rear surface of the portioning
profile, as defined in claim 13.
15. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 8, wherein said longitudinally
extending recess for accommodating a connecting clip on the rear surface is defined
by the space between a first longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion and a second
longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion, both extending partly in a direction
Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X and to the transverse direction Y,
thereby defining a longitudinally oriented cavity having a longitudinal opening in
a middle part of said profile; said cavity having an opening part and a bottom part;
wherein said cavity is having an extension, in a transverse direction, at its bottom
part which is larger than the extension, in a transverse direction, of the cavity
at its opening part.
16. A room partitioning system (200) according to claim 9, wherein said longitudinally
extending protrusion of said top surface (60) comprises a first longitudinally oriented
L-shaped protrusion (82) and a second longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion,
both extending partly in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction
X and to the transverse direction Y, thereby defining a longitudinally oriented cavity
(86) between said first and second protrusion, said longitudinally oriented cavity
having a longitudinal opening in a middle part of said profile, said cavity having
an opening part and a bottom part; wherein said cavity is having an extension, in
a transverse direction, at its bottom part which is larger than the extension, in
a transverse direction, of the cavity at its opening part.
17. A room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1 - 16, wherein one
or more of said profiles (300, 400, 24, 42, 50, 52, 54) being part of said system,
is made from a metal, such as aluminum or magnesium; or an aluminum alloy or a magnesium
alloy, for example extruded aluminum or extruded magnesium; or an extruded aluminum
alloy or an extruded magnesium alloy.
18. Use of a room partitioning system (200) according to any of the claims 1-17 for partitioning
a room.
19. Use according to claim 18, wherein the room is an office room, a show room, an exhibition
stall or exhibition booth, or a room in a private home.
