[0001] The present invention relates to a cooking device having a top lid assuming a horizontal
position when closed and a sufficiently vertical position when opened.
[0002] Ovens, hobs and similar cooking devices are equipped with top lids used for closing
the top of their burners and/or grills when not in use. Top lids are connected to
the housing or to the top table of the cooking devices by means of hinges such that
they can be opened or closed. When the top lid is closed, it assumes a horizontal
position, covering the burners and/or grills from the top. When the top lid is opened,
in turn, it becomes sufficiently vertical. In order to keep the top lid stationary
in the open position, the hinges are configured so that the top lid preferably makes
an angle of 95-96 degrees with the ground.
[0003] A hinge embodiment disclosed in the application
TR200606171 is provided with a male element and a female element for a controllable opening and
closing of the top lid. The male element is situated within the female element. The
outer surface of the male element and the inner surface of the female element comprise
an indentation and a protrusion, respectively. The closing movement of the lid is
decelerated by means of the indentation and protrusion which provide an elastic fit.
[0004] In a home appliance disclosed in the application
TR200103517, a lid is connected to the appliance by means of a hinge. The hinge comprises a swinging
member coupled to the lid. The swinging member can swing between an open swinging
position and a closed swinging position. Additionally, a friction element applies
frictional force in a direction opposite to a moving direction of the swinging member.
As the swinging member assumes its closed position, a press element exerts force to
increase the frictional force.
[0005] The object of the present invention is to provide a cooking device wherein a top
lid of the device is prevented from closing out of user control under the effect of
external factors.
[0006] The present invention relates to a cooking device comprising a top table and a top
lid connected to the top table by means of a hinge so that the top lid can be moved
between a closed position closing at least part of the top table and an open position
adequately vertical to the top table. Accordingly, in order to keep the top lid stationary
in the open position, a stopper piece is provided that seats against the top table
over at least one seating surface thereof, and rests against the top lid over at least
one resting surface thereof, which is sufficiently vertical to said seating surface.
Thus, the top lid is prevented from closing when an unintended force acts on the top
lid.
[0007] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the angle between the
seating surface and the resting surface of the stopper piece is greater than 90 degrees.
Thus, the top lid is kept in a sufficiently open position that will not obstruct the
use of the cooking device.
[0008] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the stopper piece is
removable. Thus, when it is desired to close the top lid, the stopper piece can be
removed or dismounted.
[0009] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, one lateral side of
the stopper piece is provided with at least one hinge socket in the form of a cavity
into which at least part of one end of the hinge can be introduced. Thus, the stopper
piece is prevented from displacing due to forces acting on the lid.
[0010] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the vicinity of the
resting surface of the stopper piece is provided with at least one rear protrusion
defining a groove between the rear protrusion and the resting surface, the groove
having a width that can at least partially receive one edge of the top lid. Thus,
the stopper piece is prevented from displacing due to forces acting on the lid.
[0011] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, one end of the seating
surface is provided with at least one fastening tab in the form of a protrusion from
the seating surface. Thus, the stopper piece is prevented both from displacing and
from improper assembly.

[0012] In the following detailed description, a cooking device (10) having a stopper piece
(30) according to the present invention will be described illustratively, for purposes
of clarity only, without any restrictive effect.
[0013] With reference to figures 1, 2, 3 and 5, the cooking device (10) according to the
present invention comprises a top table (11) equipped with burners, grill, and similar
cooking elements, and at least one top lid (12) that can close at least part of the
top table (11) from above. The top lid (12) is connected to the top table (11) or
to the body of the cooking device (10) by means of at least one hinge (20). Thus,
the top lid (12) can be moved between a closed position closing at least part of the
top table (11) and an open position that is sufficiently vertical to the top table
(11). This movement is rotational about the axis of the hinge (20). Preferably, one
side of the hinges (20) is connected to one edge of the top lid (12), whereas the
other side of the hinges (20) is connected to the vicinity of the rear edge of the
top table (11). In order to prevent the top lid (12) of the cooking device (10) according
to the present invention from closing out of user control, at least one stopper piece
(30) is provided between the top lid (12) and the top table (11).
[0014] In an embodiment of the stopper piece (30) shown in figures 4a, 4b, 4c, and 4d, one
side of the stopper piece (30) is provided with a seating surface (31), as well as
a resting surface (32) disposed sufficiently perpendicular to said seating surface
(31). Additionally, one lateral side of the stopper piece (30) is provided with a
hinge socket (35) in the form of a cavity. The hinge socket (35) is formed substantially
to receive at least part of one end of the hinge (20). In a preferred embodiment according
to the present invention, a plastic cap provided on one end of the hinge (20) is removed
and the stopper piece (30) is mounted. According to this embodiment, the top lid (12)
is prevented from closing when the seating surface (31) seats against the top table
(11) and the resting surface (32) rests against the top lid (12). As a result of mounting
the stopper piece (30) to the hinge (20), any attempt forcing the top lid (12) to
close will prevent the stopper piece (30) from displacing.
[0015] In another embodiment of the stopper piece (30) shown in figures 6a, 6b, 6c, and
6d, one side of the stopper piece (30) is defined as a seating surface (31), and another
side thereof that is sufficiently perpendicular to said seating surface (31), in turn,
is defined as a resting surface (32). At least one rear protrusion (34) is provided
to define a groove (33) between the rear protrusion (34) and said resting surface
(32). The groove (33) is provided in a width that can receive at least part of one
edge of the top lid (12) of the cooking device (10). Additionally, a fastening tab
(36) is provided that projects out from the seating surface (31) on the side of the
stopper piece (30) where the rear protrusion (34) is situated. According to this structural
detail, the stopper piece (30) is seated against the top table (11) of the cooking
device (31) over its seating surface (31), as illustrated in figure 5. Thus, the resting
surface (32) rests against the top lid (12). This prevents the top lid (12) from displacing
and closing. Also since the groove (33) of the stopper piece (30) receives the top
lid (12), the stopper piece (30) is prevented from displacing when the top lid (12)
is forced to close. According to this configuration, the fastening tab (36) provided
on the seating surface (31) extends down from the rear edge of the top table (11).
This, in turn, prevents the stopper piece (30) both from displacing to the front and
from improper assembly.
[0016] According to preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is also devised to
make the angle between the seating surface (31) and the resting surface (32) of the
stopper piece (30) greater than 90 degrees to prevent any displacement of the latter.
The angle between the seating surface (31) and the resting surface (32) of the stopper
piece (30) can be made greater than 90 degrees either by the angular difference between
the seating surface (31) and the resting surface (32), or by a protrusion provided
on the seating surface (31).
[0017] According to the structural details given above, when the top lid (12) of the cooking
device (10) is forced to close under the influence of external factors such as the
wind, physical contacts, etc., the stopper piece (30) becomes wedged between the top
table (11) and the top lid (12), preventing the closure of the top lid (12). On the
other hand, if it the top lid (12) is to be closed, the stopper piece (30) is removed
from between the top lid (12) and the top table (11). Thus, the top lid (12) is unblocked.
