[0001] The present invention refers to a sectional piece of furniture.
[0002] There are currently known, at the state of the art, different types of sectional
pieces of furniture.
[0003] These are, in particular, sectional pieces of furniture that are prevalently modular,
which allow the user, by choosing from a plurality of available and compatible components,
a certain level of customization of the piece of furniture in relation to shape and
colour thereof.
[0004] For example, the document no.
DE 521764C1 discloses a sectional piece of furniture comprising a support, consisting of a partially
smooth rod that can be screwed with its lower end into a base plate. A cap can be
screwed onto the upper end of the rod. On the smooth rod there are inserted movable
loose rings, the lower of which is in contact with a bushing movable with respect
to another bushing, which rests on the base plate. Inside the two bushings there is
provided a coil spring by means of which one of the two bushings is pushed upward
so that all the movable rings are elastically in contact with each other. The rings
are provided with annular grooves on an edge that allow the insertion of a tool, by
means of which two adjacent rings can be moved away from each other overcoming the
pressure of the spring. In the free space created between the rings it is thus possible
to insert a plate or the like. When the action of the tool ceases, the action of the
spring blocks the object inserted.
[0005] However, said sectional piece of furniture known at the state of the art has some
drawbacks.
[0006] In fact, the structure described in said document no.
DE 521764C1 is elastically floating, and therefore does not allows a structurally stable and
solid piece of furniture to be produced.
[0007] Moreover, other known sectional pieces or furniture allow an essentially limited
level of customization.
[0008] Furthermore, according to the prior art, after having selected the components desired
and assembled the sectional piece of furniture, it is unlikely that said components
will be disassembled and re-utilized to create a different piece of furniture, when
the needs or preferences of the user change. Also, said sectional pieces of furniture
known at the state of the art are, above all due to the presence of numerous parts,
the assembly of which essentially complex for the user who, often lacking experience,
encounters appreciable difficulties and consequently requires relatively long assembly
times.
[0009] It must also be noted how said assembly difficulties also lead to the risk of possible
structural failure of the sectional piece of furniture during use, related to its
incorrect assembly.
[0010] Starting from the notion of these drawbacks, the present invention intends to provide
a remedy.
[0011] An object of the present invention is to provide a sectional piece of furniture with
which it is possible to produce a structurally stable and solid piece of furniture.
[0012] Another object of the present invention is to provide a sectional piece of furniture
as said, which makes it possible for the user to maximize customization of the piece
of furniture itself, according to personal needs and preferences. A further object
of the present invention is to provide a sectional piece of furniture which allows
the user to disassemble it in order to use the same elements to assemble a different
sectional piece of furniture, when needs or preferences change.
[0013] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a sectional piece of furniture
that has a simple structure, is easy to assemble by the user, so as to facilitate
the operations to produce the piece of furniture, and also greatly reduce the risk
of structural failure of the piece of furniture itself when assembled due to errors
in the original assembly.
[0014] In view of these objects, the present invention provides a sectional piece of furniture,
the essential characteristic of which is the subject of the main claim, while further
advantageous characteristics of the invention are described in the dependent claims
from 2 to 12.
[0015] The aforesaid claims are intended as fully incorporated herein.
[0016] More in particular, said sectional piece of furniture comprises, according to the
prior art, at least one vertical columnar load-bearing member, and at least one functional
member of the piece of furniture, wherein:
s aid at least one columnar member comprises:
- a plurality of structural blocks mutually vertically overlapping, each having a respective
through hole with vertical axis, aligned with the vertical axes of the through holes
of the other blocks of said plurality of blocks, and a top member having a respective
through hole with vertical axis aligned with the vertical axes of the through holes
of the other blocks and in which a threaded axial bushing is secured;
- a vertical core shaped as a connecting tie, passing through said holes of said plurality
of structural blocks of said at least one columnar member, and having the upper end
threaded and engaged by screwing into said threaded bushing;
and said at least one functional member comprises at least one support member partially
protruding with respect to said at least one columnar member.
[0017] According to the invention, said sectional piece of furniture is characterized in
that it comprises interconnecting means, in twos, of the blocks of said plurality
of structural blocks, in that said at least one support member comprises at least
one plate-shaped support means partially arranged and secured between two adjacent
structural blocks of said at least one columnar member, partially extending with respect
to said at least one columnar member itself, and supporting said at least one functional
member, and in that said at least one plate-shaped support means is secured between
said two adjacent structural blocks by means of interconnecting means of said two
adjacent blocks themselves.
[0018] The present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description,

[0019] In the aforesaid figures 1A - 1B, 3 to 6, 21, 23 to 26 and 28, the numeral 10 indicates
a sectional piece of furniture according to an example of embodiment of the present
invention, in different variants.
[0020] Said piece of furniture 10 comprises, according to the prior art:
at least one vertical columnar load-bearing member 11, and at least one functional
member 13, 13.0, 13.01, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.5, 15.2 of the piece of furniture
10, wherein:
- said at least one columnar member 11 comprises:
- a plurality of structural blocks 14 mutually vertically overlapping, each having a
respective through hole 15.0 with vertical axis, aligned with the vertical axes of
the through holes 15.0 of the other blocks 14 of said plurality of blocks 14, and
a top member 15.2 having a respective through hole with vertical axis aligned with
the vertical axes of the through holes 15.0 of the other blocks 14 and in which a
threaded axial bushing (not visible in the figures of the drawing) is secured;
- a vertical core 15 shaped as a connecting tie, passing through said holes 15.0 of
said plurality of structural blocks 14 of said at least one columnar member 11, and
having the upper end threaded and engaged by screwing into said threaded bushing;
- said at least one functional member 13, 13.0, 13.01, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.5,
15.2 comprises at least one support member 12 partially protruding with respect to
said at least one columnar member 11.
[0021] More in particular, insofar as is relevant, "functional member" is intended as a
finishing member of the piece of furniture 10 itself, different from said columnar
member 11 and having a technical/structural function (for example, a shelf, a top
panel, a cabinet or the like), and/or a function of aesthetic finish.
[0022] According to the present invention, said sectional piece of furniture is characterized
in that it comprises interconnecting means 17, in twos, of the blocks 14 of said plurality
of structural blocks, in that said at least one support member 12 comprises at least
one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5, 12.6 partially arranged
and secured between two adjacent structural blocks 14 of said at least one columnar
member 11, partially extending with respect to said at least one columnar member 11
itself, and supporting said at least one functional member 13, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4,
13.5, and in that said at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4,
12.5, 12.6 is secured between said two adjacent structural blocks 14 by means of said
interconnecting means 17 of said two adjacent blocks 14 themselves.
[0023] Fig. 1A illustrates an example of embodiment of the invention relating to a piece
of furniture 10 shaped essentially as a small table, by means of connection with respect
to a plurality of columns 11 of the top panel 13.0 pursuant to Figs. 2A and 2B; Fig.
2B instead shows a first variant of embodiment of the piece of furniture 10, related
to a piece of furniture 10 shaped essentially as a bookcase, comprising a top panel
13.0 and a plurality of shelves 13.01, such as the one illustrated by way of example
in Fig. 2C.
[0024] According to the invention, as specified above, said piece of furniture 10 can comprise
at least one support member 12 partially protruding with respect to said at least
one columnar member 11 (as illustrated in the piece of furniture 10 shown in the aforesaid
Figs. 3 to 6, 21 and 23 to 26).
[0025] More in particular, said at least one support member 12 comprises at least one plate-shaped
support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5, 12.6 partially arranged and secured between
two adjacent structural blocks 14 of said at least one columnar member 11, partially
extending with respect to said at least one columnar member 11 itself, and supporting
said at least one functional member 13, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.5. According to
the invention, said at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4,
12.5, 12.6 is secured between said two adjacent structural blocks 14 by means of interconnecting
means 17 of said two adjacent blocks 14 themselves.
[0026] In the embodiment illustrated (in particular, Figs. 3 and 7), said interconnecting
means 17 are advantageously pin-shaped. Said at least one plate-shaped support means
12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5, 12.6, has an opening 16 through which said vertical
core 15 of said at least one columnar member 11 passes.
[0027] It can be noted that in the variant above pursuant to Fig. 1A, said at least one
opening 16, through which said vertical core 15 passes, consists of a blind hole that
houses said threaded bushing (not illustrated) in said functional member 13.0 (Figs.
2A and 2B).
[0028] Instead, in the case of the functional member 13.01 pursuant to Fig. 2C said hole
16 consists of a through hole.
[0029] More in particular, as illustrated, said two adjacent structural blocks 14 and said
at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.3, 12.5, (Figs. 11, 12, 14, 15 and
20) comprise at least one respective pair of blind holes 14.0 in the opposite surfaces
of said two adjacent blocks 14 and at least one corresponding pair of holes 12.0 passing
through said at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.3, 12.5,; more in particular
at least one pair of connecting pins 17 crosses said through holes 12.0 of said at
least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.3, 12.5, and engages, in a disassemblable
manner, respective pairs of holes 14.0 of said opposite surfaces of said adjacent
blocks 14.
[0030] In variant, said two adjacent structural blocks 14 and said at least one plate-shaped
support means 12.2, 12.4, 12.6, comprise at least one pair of respective blind holes
14.0 in the opposite surfaces of said two adjacent blocks 14 and at least one hole
12.0 passing through said at least one plate-shaped support means 12.2, 12.4, 12.6,;
more in particular, at least one pair of connection pins 17 engages, in a disassemblable
manner, respective pairs of holes 14.0 of said opposite surfaces of said adjacent
blocks 14 and one of which crosses said at least one through hole 12.0 of said at
least one plate-shaped support means 12.2, 12.4, 12.6.
[0031] It can be noted how in the aforesaid variants pursuant to Figs . 1A and 1B, the numeral
12.0 0 indicates each hole for corresponding securing pin 17.
[0032] According to a further variant (Figs. 16-18), said at least one support member 12
comprises a pair of plate-shaped support means 12.5, 12.6, resting on respective opposite
faces of an intermediate one of said structural blocks 14 of said at least one columnar
member 11 and each secured between said intermediate structural block 14 itself and
a respective structural block 14 which is above said intermediate structural block
14, respectively under it.
[0033] An example of assembly of a support member 12 with plate-shaped support means 12.6
as describe above is illustrated schematically in Fig. 19.
[0034] Said at least one functional member 13 can be integral with respect to said at least
one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4.
[0035] In variant, said at least one functional member 13, 13.2 is secured in a disassemblable
manner with respect to said at least one plate-shaped support means 12.5, 12.6.
[0036] According to the invention, said at least one support member 12 can comprise a plate-shaped
support means 12.5, 12.6, having an essentially orthogonal tab 12.50, 12.60, provided
with holes 12.51, 12.61 for the disassemblable connection of said at least one functional
member 13.
[0037] A similar shape of said support member 12 with plate-shaped support means 12.5, 12.6
is particularly functional for the purposes of producing a sectional piece of furniture
10 comprising one or more functional members 13 essentially in the shape of a panel
13.2, for example to produce a small piece of furniture with a box-shaped body, as
illustrated schematically in Fig. 26.
[0038] As can be seen from the aforesaid figures of the drawing, and on the basis of the
description above, said plate-shaped support elements 12 can take different shapes;
according to the examples illustrated in the figures of the drawing attached hereto,
said plates can have the shape of an essentially quadrangular (in particular, Fig.
11, 14, 15, and 16), or essentially triangular or trapezoid (in particular, Figs.
8, 10, 17 and 18) single plate, or of two opposed plates, either quadrangular (Figs.
12, 20), or essentially triangular or trapezoidal (Fig. 13).
[0039] Naturally, it is understood that any further shapes of said plate-shaped support
member, provided that they are suitable for the purpose, are also included in the
scope of the present invention.
[0040] According to the present embodiment of the invention, said at least one support member
12 can comprise at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4 with
respect to which functional member 13 in the shape of a shelf 31.1 protrudes; the
piece of furniture 10 comprising functional members 13 shaped in this manner is visible,
by way of example, in Figs. 1 to 4 and 24 to 25.
[0041] Similarly, it is also possible to obtain functional members 13 shaped essentially
as a top panel 13.3, such as those schematically illustrated in the pieces of furniture
10 pursuant to Figs. 24 and 25.
[0042] Said at least one support member 12 can also comprise, according to the present invention,
at least one plate-shaped support means 12.1, 12.2, with respect to which at least
one functional member 13 in the shape of a supporting arm 13.4, 13.5 protrudes (see,
specifically, the details illustrated in Figs 8 to 10).
[0043] More in particular, said functional member 13 in the shape of a supporting arm can
form a base support 13.4 (Figs. 3-4, 9-10, and 23) of the piece of furniture 10, or
a clothes hanger support 13.5 (Figs. 4 and 8), for example for placing a plurality
of clothes hangers (not illustrated).
[0044] Functional members in the shape of an arm similar to those described above can be
used to support a panel or a sheet of glass (not illustrated) in order to produce
a small table or the like (see, by way of example, the piece of furniture illustrated
schematically in Fig. 23).
[0045] According to the present invention, said support member 12 can comprise a plate-shaped
support means 12.3, with respect to which a frame beam-shaped member 18, such as the
one illustrated schematically in Fig. 20, protrudes, for example to produce a small
table or similar, such as the one illustrated in Fig. 21, by means of placing a panel
or a sheet of glass (not illustrated) on said frame beam-shaped member 18.
[0046] According to the invention, said at least one columnar member 11 comprises:
- a structural base block 14, a structural top block 14 and at least one intermediate
structural block 14, provided with respective through holes 15.0 aligned according
to a vertical axis;
- a vertical rod 15.1 forming said core 15, which is inserted through said through holes
15.0 of said structural blocks 14 and which is engaged, at the upper end, by said
threaded bushing of said top member 15.2 which is essentially head-shaped and resting
against a surface of said structural top block 14, and at the other end is engaged
by screwing into a corresponding threaded nut which is stationary with respect to
said structural base block 14.
[0047] In this way, said at least one columnar member 11 is firmly and solidly assembled
together with said at least one top member 15.2, in a disassemblable manner.
[0048] In the embodiment illustrated (in particular, see Figs. 5 and22A to 22C), said structural
block 14 consists of two juxtaposed parts 14.1, 14.2 along respective complementary
shaped faces, respectively opposite to the faces of the structural block 14 itself,
having the respective holes 14.0 for housing the pins 17 for the interconnection of
said blocks (in particular, see Fig. 5).
[0049] Figs. 22A to 22C show different variants of embodiment of said structural blocks
14, consisting of two parts 14.1, 14.2, to allow corresponding variants of the piece
of furniture 10 according to the invention to be produced, in conformity with the
preferences of the user.
[0050] Said structural blocks 14 can be produced in different sizes, according to needs.
[0051] Furthermore, the different shapes and colour variations of said structural blocks
14 or of the related parts 14.1, 14.2, allow the user to optimally customize the aesthetic
look of the piece of furniture 10 assembled, according to preferences. Purely by way
of example, it can be noted how the pieces of furniture 10 illustrated in Figs. 1A
and 1B, 3 to 6, and in Figs. 24 to 26 and 28 have a plurality of blocks 14 with identical
parts 14.1, 14.2, have essentially stepped, respectively ramped, opposed surfaces
(as shown in the details illustrated in Figs. 22A and 22B), while the piece Of furniture
10 of Fig. 21, respectively 23, has a plurality of blocks 14 whose identical parts
14.1, 14.2 have essentially curvilinear opposed surfaces (as shown in the detail of
Fig. 22C).
[0052] Figs. 27A to 27F illustrate a plurality of variants of embodiment of said top member
15.2 which is essentially head-shaped to be rested against the top surface of said
structural top block 14 of a columnar member 11.
[0053] The user can therefore choose said essentially head-shaped top member 15.2 according
to preferences, in order to obtain the desired assembly (an examples is illustrated
in Fig. 28).
[0054] It can be noted that (Figs. 27A to 27F) said top member 15.2 comprises a threaded
bushing with vertical axis (not illustrated) secured and engaged by screwing with
the correspondingly threaded upper end of said vertical core 15; said top member 15.2
also fulfils a function of aesthetic finish of the piece of furniture 10 (Fig. 28).
[0055] Said sectional piece of furniture 10 according to the present invention thus allows
the user to easily produce a stable and solid structure, as well as maximum customization
of the piece of furniture 10 itself; moreover, the piece of furniture 10 can be easily
disassembled by the user to produce, with the same components, a different piece of
furniture 10 when needs or preferences change.
[0056] Furthermore, owing to the relatively simple structure, the piece of furniture 10
can be easily assembled by the user, essentially without the need to use tools. For
the same reason, the risk of any structural failure of the piece of furniture 10 once
assembled, linked to possible errors during its assembly, is reduced accordingly.
in the following, there will be described a method of assembling the sectional piece
of furniture according to the present invention, comprising the following steps consisting
in:
- vertically overlapping a plurality of structural blocks, each having a through hole
aligned with respect to the through hole of all the other overlapped blocks, and interconnecting
said overlapped blocks, in twos,
- inserting, through said aligned holes, a vertical core shaped as a connecting tie
of said plurality of structural blocks, forming said at least one columnar member,
by means of screwing onto the threaded ends of said core of corresponding threaded
bushings secured respectively to a top member and a base member of said column;
- partially arranging and securing said at least one support member, comprising at least
one plate-shaped support means, between two adjacent structural blocks of said at
least one columnar member, and assembling all these parts by means of said tie rod,
- partially extending said at least one support member with respect to said at least
one columnar member itself,
- securing said at least one functional member by means of said at least one support
member with respect to said at least one columnar member,
- securing said at least one support member between said two adjacent structural blocks
by means of interconnecting means of said two adjacent blocks themselves.
[0057] Furthermore, according to an embodiment the sectional piece of furniture according
to the invention:
- said structural blocks, said connecting tie core, said at least one functional member
and optionally said at least one support member of said piece of furniture are reproduced
virtually, in a plurality of variants, in a database, also containing the related
cost data, and which can be consulted by means of computer means provided with memory
means and with control, display and printing means, and can be selected virtually,
from said plurality of variants, by an operator by means of said computer means, and
- a dedicated software program operating as virtual configurator is prepared and installed
in said computer means and is used by means of a proper graphic interface, to make
a plurality of predetermined images encoded in said computer means accessible to a
user on the display means of said computer means, to allow different virtual graphical
configurations of the final image of said sectional piece of furniture to be produced,
and the partial and total cost data of the piece of furniture itself to be displayed
for the user to print and/or store.
[0058] In this way, the piece of furniture according to the invention is produced easily
and with optimal customization, according to the needs or preferences of the user.
[0059] As is apparent from the considerations above, said sectional piece of furniture 10
according to the present invention allows a structurally stable and solid piece of
furniture to be produced.
[0060] Moreover, said sectional piece of furniture 10 as said makes it possible for the
user to maximize customization of the piece of furniture itself, according to needs
and preferences. Moreover, said sectional piece of furniture 10 as indicated can be
disassembled by the user to assemble, using the same members, a different sectional
piece of furniture, when needs or preferences change.
[0061] Moreover, said sectional piece of furniture 10 as mentioned has a simple and solid
structure, easily assembled by the user, so as to facilitate operations by the user
to produce the piece of furniture, as well as to greatly reduce the risk of structural
failure of the piece of furniture itself when assembled caused by errors in the original
assembly.
[0062] Furthermore, the present invention provides a procedure for producing the aforesaid
sectional piece of furniture.
[0063] As it appears from the above description, the present invention allows the objects
described in the introduction to be achieved in a simple and advantageous manner.
1. A sectional piece of furniture (10) comprising at least one vertical columnar load-bearing
member (11), and at least one functional member (13, 13.0, 13.01, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3,
13.4, 13.5, 15.2) of the piece of furniture (10), wherein:
