(54) SPRING SYSTEM FOR FASTENING A LED MODULE INTO A LAMP HOUSING

(57) The object of the invention is a spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing, said system consisting of a wire element fixed between a fastening assembly at one side and a lock for fastening a spring wire element at the other side.
The spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing of the invention consists of a spring wire element (4) that is fixed into a fastening assembly (2) with its base part, while both its legs extend along the edges of the LED module (1) and engage at the end with a fastening lug (6) into grooves on the lock (3) for fastening the spring wire element (4).

Description

[0001] The object of the invention is a spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing, said system consisting of a wire element fixed between a fastening assembly at one side and a lock for fastening a spring wire element at the other side. With its arrangement, shape and construction the spring wire system provides for a simple fastening and replacement of a LED module in a lamp housing. The invention belongs to class F21V 19/00 of the International Patent Classification.

[0002] A technical problem that is successfully solved by a spring system of the invention is to ensure simple insertion and fastening of a LED module into a lamp upon factory assembly and also a replacement of the LED module at subsequent servicing operations.
LEDs are predominantly used as an alternative technology to conventional systems for illuminating surfaces and rooms, such as halogen lights, fluorescent lights, high-pressure lamps. A special challenge in the production of LED lamps is fastening of a LED module into a lamp. A very good thermal junction should be achieved between a lamp housing, serving as a cooling body, and a LED module. The most frequently applied modes of fastening are gluing with a double-sided thermally conductive adhesive tape or fastening with screws. An exchange of a LED module proves very demanding in both cases because additional tool is needed and the procedure is very time consuming. If a LED module is glued, the thermal junction might get weaker due to ageing. The drawbacks of the mentioned fastening systems are eliminated by the present spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing of the invention. The LED module can be simply and rapidly replaced without using any tools and at the same time a good thermal junction between the LED module and the housing is achieved.

[0003] The spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing of the invention consists of a spring wire element, a fastening assembly of a spring wire element, and a lock for fastening the spring wire element, wherein the spring wire element is fixed with its base part into the fastening assembly, while its both legs extend along the edges of the LED module and engage at the end with their fastening lug into grooves on the lock for fastening the spring wire element.

[0004] The invention will be explained in more detail by way of an embodiment and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 shows an axonometric view of a fastened LED module with a spring system of the invention;

Figure 2 shows an axonometric view of the LED module while being fastened with a spring system of the invention;

Figure 3 shows an axonometric view of a portion of the fastened LED module with a spring system of the invention.

[0005] A spring system for fastening a LED module into a lamp housing of the invention consists of a spring wire element 4, a fastening assembly 2 of the spring wire element 4, a lock 3 for fastening the spring wire element 4, a lamp housing, and a LED module 1 which can be made of lamination, aluminium, ceramics or any other material, and on which any number of LEDs 7 and optical elements are arranged.

[0006] While assembled, the LED module 1 is placed into the lamp and fastened with one or several spring wire elements 4. The spring wire element 4 is U-shaped, wherein it is fixed with its base part into the fastening assembly 2, while both legs of the spring wire element 4 extend along the edges of the LED module 1. Each leg of the spring wire element 4 is provided with semi-circular fastening flaps 5 with a fastening lug 6 at the end, which, when the LED module 1 is fastened, engages into grooves on the lock 3 for fastening the spring wire element 4. There may be a different number of semi-circular fastening flaps 5 depending on the size of the LED module 1. The spring wire element 4 in the illustrated embodiment has two respective fastening flaps 5 on its each leg.

[0007] Owing to fastening both legs of the spring wire element 4 by means of fastening lugs 6 into the grooves provided on the lock 3 for fastening the spring wire element 4 and especially owing to the fastening flaps, a good thermal junction is achieved between the LED module 1 and the lamp housing, which allows a better heat discharge and consequently a longer life time of LEDs 7 in the LED module. When the LED module 1 is to be replaced, the spring wire element 4 is opened by disengaging the fastening lugs 6 from the grooves on the lock 3, the LED module 1 is removed and replaced by a new LED module 1. The spring wire element 4 is then engaged with its fastening lugs 6 into the grooves on the lock 3 for fastening the spring wire element 4. The procedure of replacement of the LED module 1 is completed.
