(54) HANDLING AND RECOVERY DEVICES FOR TUBULAR MEMBERS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS


(57) A device for coupling to and recovery of drill string components and an associated method. The device comprises a polar array of roller gripper elements that are urged axially and radially inwardly in response to insertion of the device into a drill string component. Once the device engages a desirable axial length of the drill string component it is retracted and in response the roller gripper elements are urged axially and radially outward to couple the device to the drill string component.
