Object of the Invention
[0001] The object of this application is the registration of a mahlstick for painting.
[0002] More specifically, the invention proposes the development of an accessory to paint
a canvas, painting or similar that facilitates the execution thereof for the painter,
being an accessory that is simple to manufacture and use.
Background of the invention
[0003] It is common that when a painting is being painted, it is necessary to support the
hand of the painter to be able to make various detail strokes that the work requires.
The problem is that normally the paint is never dry enough to be able to touch the
material or surface with your hands, and even less to lean on it. This problem is
solved by using an accessory called a mahlstick, which consists of a tool that is
used as a support element that enables high-precision brush strokes to be made.
[0004] For use thereof, the painter must hold the mahlstick with one hand while brushing
with the other hand, which can be somewhat cumbersome and complicated for the painter
since he must be aware of correctly holding the mahlstick, so his concentration for
brushing is diminished due to ensuring an adequate control and grip of the mahlstick.
[0005] Furthermore, the applicant is not currently aware of an invention that has all the
features described in this specification.
Description of the invention
[0006] The present invention has been developed in order to provide a mahlstick for painting
that is a novelty within the field of application and solves the aforementioned drawbacks,
further contributing other additional advantages that will be apparent from the description
that follows.
[0007] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a mahlstick for painting,
characterised in that it comprises an elongated body of variable length that extends
axially, which includes a securing portion located at one end of the elongated body,
which protrudes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the elongated body, the
securing portion being configured by way of support point to be locatable on an upper
edge of a surface to be painted, including a stepped portion located prior to the
securing portion.
[0008] Preferably, the mahlstick can be made of wood or similar material.
[0009] Alternatively, the mahlstick can be made of a plastic material, or even a metal material
such as, for example, aluminium, that enables the reduction of the weight thereof.
[0010] Preferably, the aforementioned securing portion defines a right angle with respect
to the elongated body.
[0011] Alternatively, in the mahlstick, the elongated body may exhibit a longitudinal through
groove and incorporates support means arranged in the same groove; said groove being
arranged in the same longitudinal extension of the elongated body; and said support
means being enabled to be movable and fixable along the same groove, and further enabled
for a support resulting from the same elongated body on a lower edge of a board on
which the surface to be painted extends.
[0012] Additionally, the support means in the mahlstick may comprise a stop and screw elements,
which are mutually enabled and in relation to the groove itself for the longitudinal
movement thereof along the same groove; and also enabled for fixing the same stop
in a desired position in the longitudinal extension of the same groove and a support
of the same stop on the lower edge of the board on which the surface to be painted
extends.
[0013] Due to these features, a mahlstick is obtained that provides all the advantages of
using a mahlstick, but that also facilitates the handling thereof since the user does
not have to hold it, given that due to the configuration thereof it can rest on the
board, canvas, painting or similar, that has the surface to be brushed, the contact
points of this mahlstick being the upper and lower edges of the board. The arrangement
of the step prevents the mahlstick from contacting the painted surface, avoiding damage
to the painting at all times.
[0014] This tool enables the artist to achieve much more precise brush strokes and with
more nuances during the execution of the painting that can be much more complicated
to obtain without this accessory.
[0015] Thus, the described mahlstick represents an innovative structure with structural
and constitutive features hitherto unknown for the intended purpose thereof, reasons
that together with the practical utility thereof, provide it with a sufficient foundation
to obtain the privilege of exclusivity that is requested.
[0016] Other features and advantages of the mahlstick object of the present invention will
be apparent from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment, illustrated
by way of nonlimiting example in the attached drawings, in which:

Description of a preferred embodiment
[0018] In view of the aforementioned figures and, according to the numbering adopted, a
preferred exemplary embodiment of the invention can be seen therein, which comprises
the portions and elements that are indicated and described in detail below.
[0019] The mahlstick for painting, indicated generally with the numerical reference (1),
especially applicable to artistic painting, basically comprises an elongated body
(2) of variable length that extends axially, which includes a securing portion (3)
located at one end or close to one end of the elongated body (2), which extends perpendicular
to the longitudinal axis of the elongated body, the securing portion (3) being configured
by way of a support point to be locatable on an upper edge of a board (10) with a
surface to be painted (see Figures 3 and 4), including a stepped portion (4) located
prior to the securing portion (3).
[0020] The mahlstick (1) can be made of wood, a plastic material of a known type such as,
for example, polypropylene, aluminium or a combination thereof.
[0021] As can be seen more clearly in Figure 1, the securing portion (3) defines a right
angle with respect to the elongated body (2), in other words, in side elevation view,
it defines a substantially inverted L-shape during use thereof.
[0022] In another preferred embodiment of the mahlstick of the proposed invention, the elongated
body (2) may exhibit a longitudinal through groove (21), arranged and concordant with
the same longitudinal extension of the elongated body (2), as seen in Figure 5 and
from different perspectives.
[0023] In this same preferred embodiment, the elongated body (2) incorporates support means
that are movable along the groove (21). Said support means are enabled to support
the same elongated body (2) on a lower edge of the board (10).
[0024] In this preferred embodiment represented in Figure 5, the support means comprise
a stop (22) and screw elements (23), mutually enabled and in relation to the groove
itself (21) for the longitudinal movement thereof along the same groove (21) as indicated
by the arrows in Figure 5, and also enabled for fixing the same stop (22) in a desired
position in the longitudinal extension of the same groove (21).
[0025] As seen in Figure 6, indicative of a use of this preferred embodiment of the mahlstick
of the present invention, the stop (22) can be supported on a lower edge of the board
(10), with the aforementioned added advantage of being able to move along the groove
(21) as indicated by the arrows in Figure 6, and therefore being adaptable to any
size that the board (10) may exhibit.
[0026] This preferred embodiment explained and schematically represented in Figures 5 and
6, further provides the added advantage that when the easel or board (10) is at 90
degrees with respect to the ground, the mahlstick for painting of the invention is
held without touching the material of the surface to be painted arranged on the same
board (10).

of the mahlstick of the invention may be conveniently replaced by others that do not
depart from the scope defined by the claims included below.
