OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a folding sofa bed that has the particular feature
of incorporating a flexible sheet located between the mattress and the bed base with
the aim that the bed base can be folded as much as desired to access the chest that
it covers without the bed coming undone.
[0002] It has a particular application in the industrial field of sofa manufacturing.
TECHNICAL PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED AND BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] For a long time, one of the approaches on which the development of the state of the
art has centered has been the development of elements focused on saving space. One
of these elements is the sofa bed, with the aim of having a sofa available for a large
portion of the time in a room that, only occasionally on the nights that it is necessary,
is used. A later advance has consisted in that the sofa bed is folding, so that the
frame itself of the piece of furniture acts as a chest, so that, in the piece of furniture
itself, the sheets and blankets intended to be used on the sofa bed itself can be
stored. To do this, the bedstead is attached to the frame by means of a folding system
that, just by folding the bedstead, opens to access the chest.
[0004] However, this system has an important problem, consisting in that, when it is necessary
to have a sofa bed ready to be used as a bed, the fact of having to frequently access
the chest under the bedstead implies that the bed comes undone, providing an unwanted
image of sloppiness.
[0005] The present invention solves this problem that has not yet been solved in the state
of the art by introducing a sofa bed that incorporates an additional sheet, attached
to the bedstead, wherein the sheets are tucked in so that frequent access to the chest
below does not pose a problem.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0006] In order to achieve the objectives and avoid the aforementioned drawbacks, the present
invention describes a sofa bed comprising a mattress, a rigid bedstead intended to
be the base of the mattress, backrest supports and a frame that forms a chest. The
bedstead is attached to the frame by means of a folding system.
[0007] A main element of the invention consists of a fixing sheet incorporated by the sofa
bed. The fixing sheet is located between the mattress and the bedstead and is of similar
dimensions to the bedstead. The fixing sheet is fixed to the bedstead on a central
area, leaving the perimeter area free to be able to tuck in the sheets. In this way,
a frequent folding of the bedstead does not cause the bed to come undone.
[0008] In addition, considering the effectiveness of the product, the fixing sheet comprises
hollowings in inner areas, since the only necessary functions required of it are that
the peripheral area remains completely solid, and that the fixing to the bedstead
is rigid in an inner area.
[0009] Furthermore, the backrest supports are attached to the frame of the sofa bed by means
of removable anchors, which makes it possible to locate them around the entire perimeter
of the sofa bed according to the user's convenience.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
[0010] To complete the description of the invention, and for the purpose of helping to make
the features thereof more readily understandable, according to a preferred exemplary
embodiment thereof, a set of drawings is included wherein, by way of illustration
and not limitation, the following figures have been represented:
- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the sofa bed of the invention with the backrest
supports in a first configuration.
- Figure 2 represents a perspective view of the sofa bed of the invention with the backrest
supports in a second configuration.
- Figure 3 represents a perspective view of the sofa bed of the invention folded showing
the inner chest and the fixing sheet to tuck in the sheets. A list of the references
used in the figures is provided below:
- 1. Mattress.
- 2. Fixing sheet.
- 3. Bedstead.
- 4. Chest.
- 5. Backrest supports.
DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0011] The present invention relates to a folding sofa bed which comprises a mattress (1)
that rests on a bedstead (3) by means of a fixing sheet (2) that is fixed to the surface
of the bedstead (3) on a central area.
[0012] The bedstead (3) rests on the lower frame, which forms a chest (4), to which it is
attached by means of a folding system on at least one of the sides, but preferably,
on both sides to provide greater rigidity to the sofa bed.
[0013] The sofa bed further incorporates backrest supports (5) fixed to the frame by means
of movable anchors, so that the supports (5) can be located anywhere around the perimeter
of the sofa bed.
[0014] Thus, Figure 1 shows how the backrest supports (5) are located in the longest edge
of the sofa bed, while Figure 2 shows each of the backrest supports (5) located in
one of the shorter edges of the sofa bed, although they could perfectly be placed
in any position, such as making a corner.
[0015] However, the main component of the invention is formed by the fixing sheet (2). This
sheet (2) has dimensions similar to the bedstead (3), although it preferably has recesses,
only for reasons of economy, as it is a material that is unnecessary. The feature
that the fixing sheet must have is that it covers the entire perimeter of the bedstead
(3) and that it is fixed to the bedstead on a central portion, leaving the perimeter
free, with certain flexibility, so that it can carry out the function for which it
is created, such as being used to tuck in the sheets. The sheets thereby being tucked
into the fixing sheet (2), the bedstead (3) can be folded as many times as necessary
to access the chest (4) without the bed coming undone. This functionality is of utmost
importance in places wherein staff access to the chest is very frequent, since the
bed would always be undone, with the appearance of sloppiness that it causes.
[0016] Lastly, it must be taken into account that the present invention must not be limited
by the embodiment described herein. Other configurations may be carried out by those
skilled in the art based on the present description. Accordingly, the scope of the
invention is defined by the following claims.
1. A sofa bed comprising a mattress (1), a rigid bedstead (3) intended to be the base
of the mattress (1), backrest supports (5) and a frame that forms a chest (4), the
bedstead being attached to the frame by means of a folding system, the sofa bed being
characterised in that it comprises a fixing sheet (2) located between the mattress (1) and the bedstead
(3), of similar dimensions to the bedstead (3) and fixed to the bedstead (3) on a
central area, leaving the perimeter area free to be able to tuck in the sheets, so
that a frequent folding of the bedstead (3) does not undo the bed.
2. The sofa bed, according to claim 1, characterised in that the backrest supports (5) are attached to the frame of the sofa bed by means of removable
anchors, which makes it possible to locate them around the entire perimeter of the
sofa bed.
3. The sofa bed, according to claim 1, characterised in that the fixing sheet (2) comprises hollowings in inner areas, the peripheral area remaining
solid.
Amended claims in accordance with Rule 137(2) EPC.
