OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0001] As expressed in the statement of this specification, the invention regards an adhesive,
non-plastic, transparent or translucent protective sheet. It provides advantages and
features for the intended function, and these are described in detail below. They
also entail an improvement on the current state of the art.
[0002] More specifically, the object of the invention focuses on an adhesive, non-plastic,
transparent or translucent sheet intended to serve as a means of protecting objects,
particularly objects with flat surfaces to which it is attached. The primary intention
is for lining books, as well as lining and protecting other similar objects like notebooks,
magazines, albums, photos, drawing sheets, documents, folders, boxes, and more. Unlike
the current options, which consist of a plastic product obtained from petroleum, this
is an eco-friendly product manufactured from cellophane film or vegetable parchment,
thus obtained from raw plant material like cellulose. More specifically, the sheet
consists of:
- a cellulose acetate film, also known as cellophane, derived from cellulose fibers,
or
- transparent or semi-transparent paper, also known as vegetable parchment made from
cellulose.
THE INVENTION'S FIELD OF APPLICATION
[0003] The present invention's field of application is within the sector of the manufacturing
industry that produces protective sheets, particularly focusing on the field of book
linings and the like.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0004] Book liners made of adhesive, transparent sheets are currently made from plastic
products derived from petroleum. This means that, both in production and when they
become waste at the end of their useful life, they are an environmentally polluting
product, as it can take many years for them to disintegrate. It also makes it impossible
to recycle the object that the sheet was applied to, mainly books and notebooks.
[0005] Therefore, the aim of this invention is to provide a product that offers the same
advantages of protection, adhesion, and transparency while avoiding the use of plastic
materials. Instead, it uses ecological, plant-based, biodegradable, compostable, and
environmentally friendly materials.
[0006] On the other hand, regarding the current state of the art, it should be noted that,
while using cellophane and vegetable parchment is known in other applications, usually
packaging or wrapping goods, drawing, and crafting, at least to the applicant's knowledge,
it has no known use as proposed herein, nor, therefore, are any other transparent
and adhesive protective sheets with the same or similar technical, structural, and
constitutive characteristics as the one claimed herein known to exist.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] The adhesive, non-plastic, transparent or translucent protective sheet that the invention
proposes makes it possible to achieve the aforementioned objectives satisfactorily.
The characterizing details that make this possible and which properly distinguish
it are set forth in the final claims accompanying this description.
[0008] In particular, what the invention proposes, as noted above, is a transparent, adhesive
sheet intended to serve as a means of protecting objects, particularly objects with
flat surfaces to which it is attached. The primary intention is for lining books,
as well as lining and protecting other similar objects with flat surfaces, such as
notebooks, magazines, albums, photos, drawing sheets, documents, folders, and even
boxes or objects. Unlike current options, which consist of a plastic product that
generates contaminating waste, this sheet is an entirely eco-friendly product manufactured
from cellophane film or vegetable parchment, thus obtained from raw plant material
like cellulose. This also makes it possible to recycle the protected product.
[0009] More specifically, the invention's adhesive, transparent sheet is essentially made
up of cellophane film or vegetable parchment that has an adhesive layer on one of
its sides. This allows it to be adhered to the surface to be protected. It is covered
with a layer of siliconized paper that is removed at the time of use and which keeps
the adhesive layer from deteriorating prior to application.
[0010] In addition, in one preferred embodiment of the invention, the sheet is pre-cut to
the shape and size of the surface of the object to be protected where it will be applied.
[0011] Thus, since the sheet's main application is as a book liner, in one preferred embodiment
of the invention, the sheet has a rectangular configuration in the approximate dimensions
of the book for which it is intended. The layer of siliconized paper covering and
protecting the adhesive layer is pre-cut by defining three separate areas with the
respective dimensions of the front cover, the spine, and the back cover of the book
for which it is intended. This way, its application is much easier and faster.
[0012] Alternatively, the invention's sheet is manufactured to be marketed in rolls.
[0013] In any case, it should be noted that, although the adhesive layer preferably consists
of removable adhesive to allow for repositioning the sheet or even reusing it, one
alternative option where the adhesive is permanent has not been ruled out.
[0014] In one preferred embodiment, the cellophane film or vegetable parchment is colorless,
as it is transparent when made of cellophane and translucent when it is made of vegetable
parchment. However, it may optionally be tinted with different colors or printed with
any known printing system (flexography, gravure, offset, typography, silkscreen printing,
digital printing).
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0015] To complement the description at hand and to aid understanding of the invention's
features, the present specification is accompanied by technical drawings as an integral
part thereof. The following has been represented for and not limited to illustrative
purposes:
Figure number 1.- It shows a schematic cross-sectional view of a portion of the adhesive,
transparent protective sheet that is the object of the invention. It has been illustrated
with exaggerated proportions to allow observation of its parts.
Figure number 2.- It shows a top plan view of one example embodiment of the adhesive,
transparent sheet that is the object of the invention as a book liner, allowing its
external configuration or face view to be seen.
And figure number 3.- It shows a bottom plan view of the example of the sheet, according
to the invention, shown in figure 2, allowing the parts comprising its rear face to

PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0016] In light of the aforementioned figures, and in accordance with the numbering used,
an example of a non-limiting embodiment of the invention of the adhesive, non-plastic,
transparent or translucent protective sheet can be seen therein, which is composed
of that which is provided in detail below.
[0017] Thus, as can be seen in these figures of the invention, the sheet (1) can serve as
a means of protection for objects with flat surfaces on which it is applied, primarily
books but also others like notebooks, magazines, albums, photos, drawing sheets, documents,
folders, boxes, etc. This sheet is distinguished by the fact that it is composed of
a cellophane film or vegetable parchment (2) made from cellulose. On one of its faces,
it has a water-based adhesive layer (without solvents) (3), which allows it to be
adhered to the flat surface of the object to be protected. On this is a layer of siliconized
paper (4) that is removed at the time of use, which prevents the adhesive layer (3)
from deteriorating prior to application.
[0018] The sheet (1) of the invention is preferably pre-cut to the shape and size of the
surface of the object to be protected to which it will be applied.
[0019] When the sheet (1) is intended to serve as a book liner, it preferably has a rectangular
shape and the approximate dimensions of the book for which it is intended. The layer
of siliconized paper (4) that covers and protects the adhesive layer (3) is pre-cut,
defining three separate areas: a central area (4a) and two lateral areas (4b) with
dimensions corresponding to the spine and the front and back covers of the book for
which it is intended.
1. ADHESIVE, NON-PLASTIC, TRANSPARENT OR TRANSLUCENT PROTECTIVE SHEET can serve as a
means of protection for objects with flat surfaces to which it is adhered, primarily
books but also others such as notebooks, magazines, albums, photos, drawing sheets,
documents, folders, boxes, etc. It is characterized by the fact that it consists of a cellophane film or vegetable parchment (2) made from
cellulose. On one of its faces, it has an adhesive layer (3), which allows its adhesion
to the flat surface of the object to be protected. On this surface is a layer of siliconized
paper (4), which is removed at the time of use to prevent the deterioration of the
adhesive layer (3) prior to application.
