FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a packaging for pet food kibble that maintains the
characteristics of the food while being made of a 100% mono-material.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks are packaged
in containers that ensure food preserving, transportation and storage. These packages
maintain ideal humidity percentage and quality of the semi-moist and/or dry pet food
kibble or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks on long term, while they are made of food-safe
materials. Moreover, semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry
pet snacks packages, often possess resealing or reclosing means in order to maintain
the quality of the food inside, after they were opened. In addition, semi-moist and/or
dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks packages may contain features
that allow the dispense of the kibbles from the package in a convenient manner.
[0003] Currently available pet food packages that fulfill the requirements listed above
are made of laminated plastic polymers such as APET/PE or PA/PE. Due to their heterogenous
nature, these materials are not 100% recyclable. Currently available recycle facilities
can only process materials that have uniform chemical composition, while items fabricated
by materials with heterogenous compositions are deconstructed and processed accordingly.
However this is not possible with laminated materials, which cannot be deconstructed
and thus are eliminated from the recycle process and end up in landfills.
[0004] While paper and carton or cardboard made thereof are 100% recyclable, these materials
are not suitable for semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry
pet snacks packages having the shortcoming of not properly preserving the food on
long term. Laminating the interior of paper-based boxes with a plastic polymer material
could solve this issue, but these type of boxes would not be 100% recyclable.
[0005] The present invention aims to resolve at least some of the problems and disadvantages
mentioned above.
[0006] There remains a need in the art for an improved semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble
or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks that maintains the quality of the food on long
term, it is re-closable and has food dispensing features, while it is made of 100%
mono-material. Accordingly, a need arises for the present pet food semi-moist and/or
dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks packaging that maintains the
quality of the food on long term, is re-closable and has food dispensing features,
while being made of 100% mono-material.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] The present invention and embodiments thereof serve to provide a solution to one
or more of above-mentioned disadvantages. To this end, the present invention relates
to a packaging for semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry
pet snacks according to claim 1.
[0008] The invention thereto aims to provide a rectangular packaging with a re-closable
pour made of a mono-plastic material. Preferred embodiments of the packaging are shown
in any of the claims 2 to 8.
[0009] In a second aspect, the present invention relates to a blank for making a packaging
for semi-moist and/or dry pet food kibble or semi-moist and/or dry pet snacks according
to claim 9. Preferred embodiments of the blank are shown in any of the claims 10 to
14.
