(54) A METHOD OF INSTALLING A SENSOR UNIT FOR A SECURITY MONITORING SYSTEM


(57) The present invention relates to a method of installing a sensor unit for a security monitoring system comprising the steps of selecting dependent on a desired detection area and/or detection range of the sensor unit (10) an interchangeable cover (12) from a plurality of different interchangeable covers (12), wherein the different interchangeable covers (12) are adapted to restrict differently the field of view of a motion detector (14) of the sensor unit (10); and
connecting the selected interchangeable cover (12) to the sensor unit (10).
Also provided is a corresponding kit of parts including a sensor unit assembly, comprising a sensor unit (10) with image capture means (18) configured to capture an image and/or a video of a monitored area and a motion detector (14), in particular a passive infrared, PIR, sensor, configured to detect motion in a detection area and to provide dependent on the detection a signal to activate the image capture means (18); and a plurality of interchangeable covers (12), each configured to be connected to the sensor unit (10), wherein different interchangeable covers (12) are configured to cover different parts of a lens or lens array of the motion detector (14) when connected to the sensor unit (16).
