[0001] The present invention relates to a window frame door of the type comprising at least
one glass, an inner quadrangular aluminium frame and an outer quadrangular aluminium
frame perimetrically supporting the glass.
[0002] In this type of door, the aluminium inner frame comprises two opposing vertical inner
frame profiles connected by two opposing horizontal inner frame profiles.
[0003] The vertical innner frame profiles and the horizontal innner frame profiles have
matching cut ends at 45° that define four joint lines at 45° at the four corners of
the aluminium inner frame.
[0004] The aluminium inner frame structure is completed by a quadrangular aluminium glass
stop comprising two opposing vertical glass stop profiles connected by two opposing
horizontal glass stop profiles.
[0005] The aluminium outer frame has a similar construction.
[0006] One of the drawbacks complained of by a traditional aluminium window frame door is
that the technique adopted for joining the profiles of the inner and outer frames
gives rise to clearly visible joint lines inclined at 45° that greatly affect the
aesthetic effect given to the final product.
[0007] The technical task that the present invention proposes is, therefore, to provide
an alternative aluminium and glass window frame door that is not only just as easy
to manufacture as commercially available products, but also has a distinctive and
individualising aesthetic aspect that makes it recognisable in the market of reference.
[0008] The technical task, as well as these and other purposes, according to the present
invention are achieved by making a window frame door comprising at least one glass,
a quadrangular inner frame in aluminium and a quadrangular outer frame in aluminium
perimetrically supporting said glass, said inner frame in aluminium comprising two
opposing vertical inner frame profiles connected by two opposing horizontal innner
frame profiles, wherein the vertical inner frame profiles and the horizontal inner
frame profiles have matching cut ends at 45° defining four joint lines at 45° at the
four corners of said aluminium inner frame, said aluminium inner frame supporting
a quadrangular aluminium glass stop comprising two opposing vertical glass stop profiles
connected by two opposing horizontal glass stop profiles, characterised in that the
vertical glass stop profiles and the horizontal glass stop profiles have ends cut
at 90° which define four vertical or horizontal joint lines at the four corners of
said glass stop, and in that said four vertical or horizontal j oint lines are defined
by first wings of said vertical and horizontal glass stop profiles surmounting and
concealing said four joint lines at 45.
[0009] Preferably said first wings have an outer perimeter edge matching an outer perimeter
edge of the inner frame profiles.
[0010] Preferably said first wings entirely cover one front face of said inner frame.
[0011] Other features of the present invention are also defined in subsequent claims.
[0012] Further features and advantages of the invention will be more apparent from the description
of a preferred but not exclusive form of execution of the window frame door according
to the invention, illustrated by way of illustration and not limitation in the accompanying
drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a front view of the inside of the window frame;
Figure 2 shows a front view of the outer side of the window frame;
Figure 3 shows a corner of the window frame door seen in axonometry from the inside;
Figure 4 shows an enlarged detail of the door corner of Figure 3; and
Figure 5a shows a side elevation view of the vertical and horizontal innner frame
profiles of the door corner of Figure 3;
Figure 5b shows a front view of the door corner of Figure 3.
[0013] With reference to the above figures, a window frame comprising a fixed frame 10 and
at least one door 1 is shown.
[0014] In the illustrated case, the window frame comprises a single door, but the invention
also embraces solutions in which the window frame comprises more than one door, where
the door can be either a pivoting or sliding type.
[0015] Door 1 includes at least one glass 2, in particular one or more parallel glasses
in contact with or separated by air gaps or other inert gas.
[0016] Door 1 has an inner quadrangular aluminium frame 3 and an outer quadrangular aluminium
frame 4 which perimetrically support the glass 2.
[0017] Door 1 may include, as shown, a thermal break 12 between inner frame 3 and outer
frame 4. The aluminium inner frame 3 comprises two opposing vertical inner frame profiles
3a connected by two opposing horizontal inner frame profiles 3b.
[0018] The vertical inner frame profiles 3a and the horizontal inner frame profiles 3b have
matching cut ends at 45° that define four joint lines 3c at 45° at the four corners
of the aluminium inner frame 3.
[0019] The inner aluminium frame 3 supports a quadrangular aluminium glass stop 5 comprising
two opposing vertical glass stop profiles 5a connected by two opposing horizontal
glass stop profiles 5b.
[0020] Vertical glass stop profiles 5a and horizontal glass stop profiles 5b have cut ends
at 90°defining four vertical or horizontal joint lines 5c at 90° at the four corners
of glass stop 5.
[0021] In the case shown, the joint lines 5c at 90° are vertical since the two opposing
horizontal glass stop profiles 5b are interposed between the two opposing vertical
glass stop profiles 5a , but four horizontal joint lines at 90° can be obtained by
interposing the two opposing vertical glass stop profiles 5a between the two opposing
horizontal glass stop profiles 5b.
[0022] Advantageously, the four joint lines 5c at 90° are defined by first wings 5a', 5b'
of the vertical and horizontal glass stop profiles 5a, 5b that surmount and conceal
the four seam lines 3c at 45°. The first wings 5a, 5b have an outer perimeter edge
8a, 8b matching an outer perimeter edge 9a, 9b of the profiles 3a, 3b of inner frame
3.
[0023] The first wings 5a, 5b entirely cover one front face of the inner frame 3.
[0024] The first wings 5a', 5b' are flat.
[0025] The vertical and horizontal glass stop profiles 5a, 5b then have second flat wings
5a', 5b' orthogonal to the first wings 5a', 5b'.
[0026] The first and second wings 5a', 5b', 5a', 5b' have teeth 6a', 6b', 6a', 6b' for hooking
to the inner frame 3.
[0027] The hooking teeth 6a', 6b', 6a', 6b" extend orthogonally from a rear face of the
first and second wings 5a', 5b', 5a', 5b" facing the front face of the inner frame
3.
[0028] The second wings 5a", 5b" have a slot 7a", 7b" for a seal against the glass 2.
[0029] The outer quadrangular frame 4 of door 1 has a similar construction to the inner
quadrangular frame 3 of door 1.
[0030] The aluminium outer frame 4 comprises in particular two opposing vertical outer frame
profiles 4a connected by two opposing horizontal outer frame profiles 4b.
[0031] The vertical outer frame profiles 4a and the horizontal outer frame profiles 4b have
matching cut ends at 45° that define four joint lines 4c at 45° at the four corners
of the aluminium outer frame 4.
[0032] The outer aluminium frame 4 supports a quadrangular aluminium glass stop 11 comprising
two opposing vertical glass stop profiles 11a connected by two opposing horizontal
glass stop profiles 11b.
[0033] The quadrangular outer frame 4 of door 1 can be fitted, as shown, with a traditional
glass stop that does not conceal the joint lines at 45° at the four corners of the
aluminium outer frame 4.
[0034] In this case each of the two opposing vertical glass stop profiles 11a, 11b is made
in one piece with the corresponding outer frame profile 4a, 4b.
[0035] Alternatively, the outer frame 4 of door 1 can be fitted with a glass stop like that
of the inner frame 3 of door 1, which conceals the joint lines at 45° at the four
corners of the outer frame 4 of door 1.
[0036] The fixed frame 10 of the window frame comprises two opposing vertical aluminium
profiles connected by two opposing horizontal aluminium profiles.
[0037] The horizontal and vertical profiles of fixed frame 10 have matching cut ends at
45°that define four joint lines at 45° at the four corners of fixed frame 10.
[0038] At least on the front face of the fixed frame 10, a frame can be mounted to conceal
the four joint lines at 45° at the four corners of the fixed frame 10.
[0039] The frame may consist of two opposing vertical aluminium profiles 13a connected by
two opposing horizontal aluminium profiles 13b.
[0040] Profiles 13a, 13b of the frame have cut ends at 90° defining four vertical or horizontal
joint lines 13c at 90° at the four corners of the frame.
[0041] The four joint lines 13c may be parallel to the four joint lines 5c, in the case
shown where the two opposing horizontal profiles 13b are interposed between the two
opposing vertical profiles 13a , or they may be orthogonal to the four joint lines
5c, in the case not shown where the two opposing vertical profiles 13a are interposed
between the two opposing horizontal profiles 13b. Advantageously, the glass stop present
at least on the inner frame of the aluminium door enhances the aluminium door itself,
giving it a completely different aesthetic effect compared to traditional aluminium
doors with joint lines at 45° at the corners of the inner frame.
[0042] The glass stop can advantageously be applied to the inner frame and possibly also
to the outer frame of a traditional aluminium window frame door where the frame profile
of the door and glass stop are separate pieces.
[0043] The glass stop therefore allows the aesthetic effect of the door to be diversified,
without substantially altering the traditional production process.
[0044] Advantageously, the glass stop profile can come in a wide range of colours and be
replaced to change the colour of the window frame.
[0045] The aluminium window frame door thus conceived is susceptible to numerous modifications
and variations, all within the scope of the inventive concept; moreover, all details
can be replaced by technically equivalent elements.
[0046] In practice, the materials used, as well as the dimensions, can be any according
to requirements and the state of the art.
