TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The invention relates to an air conditioner. In particular present invention relates
to an air conditioner comprising a louver arrangement. The louver arrangement can
be used to adjust the outlet air flow from the air-conditioner.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Air conditioning is a collective expression for conditioning air into a desired state.
Thus, an air-conditioner can be used to treat air. It could be heating the air during
cold periods, cooling the air during warmer periods or for cleaning/purifying the
air if it contains unwanted particles. It can also humidify or dehumidify air. In
general, an air conditioner has an air inlet some air treatment component and an air
outlet,
[0003] Typically, the final output from the air-conditioner is conditioned air blown into
a room or some other space. It is typically desired that the air is delivered at low
noise, in a sufficient amount and also the process of delivering air should be energy
efficient.
[0004] To direct the air into the room a so-called louver can be used at the air output
from the air-conditioner. Thus, a louver can be described as a movable element provided
to displace air blown by a fan of the air-conditioner. One or more such movable elements
or louvers can be provided at the air outlet. The louver(s) can deflect the air stream
and aim it at a specific direction.
[0005] For example,
JP3748049 describes a louver arrangement comprising two louver groups that can be controlled
separately through the rotation of a cam shaft of an eccentric cam respectively to
a predetermined angle.
[0006] There is a constant desire to improve air conditioners. Hence, there exists a need
for an improved air conditioner and also to a louver arrangement for an air-conditioner.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0017] The invention will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the
accompanying drawings, in which certain embodiments of the invention are shown. The
invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed
as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided
by way of example so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will
fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art. For example,
like or similar components of different embodiments can be exchanged between different
embodiments. For example, the louver arrangement as described herein is shown mounted
on an air purifier, but the louver arrangement could equally be mounted on any type
of air conditioner. Some components can be omitted from different embodiments. Also,
some components typically used in an air-conditioner have been omitted to more clearly
show the invention. Like numbers refer to like elements throughout the description.
[0018] In Fig. 1, a front view in perspective of an air-conditioner 10 is depicted. The
air-conditioner of Fig. 1 is an air-purifier 10. However, the air-conditioner can
also be of other types. The air-purifier 10 has an air inlet 12 and an air outlet
14. The air inlet can be located at the bottom part of the air purifier 10, but can
also be on the sides thereof or both. Further, in the exemplary embodiment of Fig.
1, the air outlet is located at a top section of the air-purifier 10. However, it
is also envisaged that the air outlet could be located at some other location such
as at a side panel of the air-purifier 10. At the air outlet 14 a louver arrangement
20 is located.
[0019] Further, the air-purifier 10 has a control panel 16. The control panel 16 is in the
embodiment of Fig. 1 located at the front of the top of the air purifier 10. The control
panel 16 acts as a user interface whereby a user can b control various functions of
the air-purifier 10. Such functions can be ON/OFF, fan speed and also the louver arrangement
20.
[0020] In Fig. 2, a top view of the air-purifier 10 of Fig. 1 is shown. As set out above,
a louver arrangement 20 is provided at the air outlet. The louver arrangement 20 is
divided into two groups such that the louver arrangement comprises a first louver
22 and a second louver 24. Each of the first louver 22 and the second louver 24 comprises
a set of parallel vanes that can be angled with respect to the air outlet. The vanes
can have an elongated shape extending from one end of the air outlet to the opposite
end of the air outlet. Thus, by angling the vanes of the louvers 22, 24 in the louver
arrangement air from the air outlet can be directed in different directions.
[0021] Further, in accordance with the exemplary embodiment of Fig. 2, a fixed vane 26 can
be located between the first louver 22 and the second louver 24. The fixed vane 26
can act to improve stability and make the louver arrangement 20 more robust. In order
to keep the vanes of the first louver 22 and also the second louver 24 parallel, the
individual vanes can be interconnected to a set of shafts 28. In the embodiment of
Fig. 2, three shafts 28 interconnect the vanes of the first louver 22 and a set of
three shafts 28 interconnects the vanes of the second louver 24. The shafts 28 can
advantageously run in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the
vanes of the first louver 22 and the second louver 24.
[0022] In Fig. 3, a cross sectional view from the side of the air purifier 10 in Figs. 1
and 2 is shown. The air purifier 10 has a fan 30 for blowing conditioned air from
the air purifier into a room or some other space via the air outlet. The air purifier
10 further comprises a first drive arrangement 23, 27 connected to the first louver
22 for driving the first louver 22. In this exemplary embodiment, the first drive
arrangement 23, 27 comprises a stepper motor 23 operatively connected to a teethed
drive shaft 27. The teeth of the teethed drive shaft 27 are disposed between the vanes
of the first louver 22 so that when the stepper motor is run the vanes are tilted
so as to be angled with respect to the air flow out from the air outlet. In a similar
manner a second drive arrangement 25, 29 is connected to the second louver for driving
the second louver 24.
[0023] Further, a control unit 40 arranged in the air purifier. The control unit 40 is configured
to control the drive of the first drive arrangement 23, 27 and the second drive arrangement
25, 29, respectively. The control unit can be implemented in various manners. In the
exemplary embodiment the control unit 40 is formed on an electric circuit board (ECB)
located inside the air purifier 10. Further, the control unit 40 can be configured
to control the first louver 22 and the second louver independently. This is made possible
thanks to the provision of a plurality of drive arrangements and by letting the drive
arrangements be controlled by the control unit 40. In particular, the control unit
40 can be configured to drive each of the first and second louvers 22, 24 independently
in a swinging motion. Hereby a good air distribution in the space where the air conditioner
(here the air purifier) is located.
[0024] Thus, by configuring the controller to drive the, at least, two louvers 22, 24 independently,
the louvers 22, 24 can be drive in different settings that allows for an efficient
and comfortable air distribution. In accordance with one embodiment the of the first
and second louvers 22, 24 independently in a swinging motion. For example, the first
and second louvers 22, 24 in synchronization so that the first and second louvers
22, 24 oscillate at the same frequency and in phase. In accordance with one embodiment
the first and second louvers 22, 24 oscillate at the same frequency and in phase but
with different amplitude so that one louver, preferably the louver at the back side
24 is tilted (angled) more than the other, front, louver 22.
[0025] In another embodiment, the control unit is configured to drive one of the louvers
in a swinging motion and keep one of the louvers at a fixed angle.
[0026] In Fig. 4, the mechanism for driving the louvers is shown in more detail. In Fig.
4 the covers of the stepper motors 27, 29 have been removed. As can be seen in Fig.
4, the stepper motors 23, 25 can be connected to the teethed drive shafts 27, 29 via
a gearing 21. The drive arrangements thus formed having a stepper motor driving a
teethed shaft via a gearing can allow for an accurate and smooth drive of the louvers
22, 24 when swinging the louvers back and forth in an oscillating movement to create
a comfortable air flow.
[0027] The drive of the louvers as described herein can provide a comfortable air distribution
for an air-conditioner and in particular an air purifier. Thus, heating and humidity
can be distributed in a comfortable manner using the swinging louvers. Also, whereas
the embodiments described only comprises two individually controlled louvers, the
control can be extended to more than two louvers such as three or even more.
