(54) LIMITER ASSEMBLY FOR LIMITING THE OPENING OF A SLIDING DOOR OR WINDOW

(57) The invention describes a limiter assembly for limiting the opening of the leaf (2) of a sliding door or window, for the installation thereof between the leaf (2) and the fixed frame (4) where it is installed, wherein the limiter assembly (1) comprises a movable flat (7) which can slide along the leaf (2) through the action of an actuator (8), a strike (11) fixed to the edge of the frame (4), and an arm (16) with an end joined to the movable flat (7), going through the edge of the leaf (2), and the other end of which can slide along a channel (12) of the strike (11).

Description

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a limiter assembly for limiting the opening of a sliding door or window that allows limiting the opening of the leaves with respect to the frame of sliding windows or doors, in which the leaves open and close by moving parallel to the frame.

[0002] The assembly keeps the leaf and the frame attached to one another by means of an arm in a limited opening position, which allows opening the leaf with respect to the frame by immobilizing the leaf a predetermined distance from the frame. Moreover, the assembly is perfectly integrated in the window or door, so it does not cause any type of visual impact and maintains the aesthetic of the window or door, furthermore it can cooperate with conventional closure mechanisms in windows or doors of this type.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Different closure mechanisms and devices for sliding windows or doors which essentially allow opening or closing the leaf with respect to the frame through connection between strikes and closure points, both of which can be installed in the leaf or the frame, are available today on the market. With these devices, the leaf can only be in two positions with respect to the frame: open or closed.

[0004] It is desirable to open the window just a little under certain circumstances, for example, for ventilation, ensuring that the position of the leaf with respect to the frame is controlled. This is a common requirement in windows or doors of publicly used buildings such as hotels, colleges, hospitals, or any another type of public building in which, for safety reasons, it is necessary to prevent users from manipulating and opening the leaves at will, allowing the maximum opening of the leaf and achieving likewise the required ventilation.

[0005] In those cases, windows in which the movement of the leaf is not horizontally parallel to the frame tend to be used, i.e., sliding windows are rejected at the expense of windows in which some kind of opening limiter can be installed. Typically these are hinged, sash, or pivoting windows, limiting the installation to windows of this type.

[0006] There are devices in the state of the art which try to limit the opening of the leaf with respect to the fixed frame such as, for example, patent document CN213359698U, which discloses a device that allows somehow blocking the leaf of sliding windows when they are not in the closed position. In this case, this is a blocking mechanism completely independent from the control member or closing mechanism of the window.

[0007] However, this type of device only allows blocking the leaf in a specific position, which must be set from the start and which must be considered when manufacturing the window. Additionally, once the leaf is in the open and unblocked position, it is not possible to bring it back to the closed position unless said blocking mechanism is operated once more. Besides, this kind of blocking member has the limitation that it needs a second leaf to work.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0008] The present invention relates to a limiter assembly for limiting the opening of a sliding door or window, for the installation thereof between a fixed frame and a sliding leaf of the door or window which slides towards or from the frame, wherein the frame has a frame edge and the leaf has a leaf edge and a movable flat which moves longitudinally in contact on the leaf edge through the action of an actuator.

[0009] The limiter assembly comprises an attachment element, an articulated arm provided with joint at one end which joins with the attachment element, and at least one guiding projection at the other end thereof, and a strike. The strike has a first longitudinal channel in which the arm can move in a manner guided therein by the projection, and having an upper end and a lower end intended to be installed farther away from the attachment element than the upper end, and a stop arranged close to the upper end.

[0010] The attachment element is intended for being fixed to the movable flat and the strike is intended for being fixed to the frame edge of the frame, or the attachment element is intended for being fixed to the frame edge of the frame and the strike is intended for being fixed to the flat, wherein the movement of the movable flat determines the relative movement between the arm and the strike between a closed position of the leaf with respect to the frame in which the arm is parallel to the movable flat and the projection of the arm is inside the first channel, a limited opening position of the leaf with respect to the frame in which the arm swings and the projection contacts the stop, retaining the leaf away from the frame, and a completely open position of the leaf in which the arm is parallel to the movable flat and the projections are outside the first channel.

[0011] In the different embodiments thereof, the elements of the assembly can be arranged interchangeably in the frame or the leaf, always maintaining the same operation logic. As a result of the configuration of the assembly, it can act together with conventional closure mechanisms in windows or doors of this type which tend to be a multipoint type in general.

[0012] Therefore, in a limited opening position, the leaf can move with respect to the frame, but the limiter assembly for limiting opening continues to keep the leaf and frame linked to one another by means of the arm, which can be a flexible part, an articulated arm, or the like, which allows opening the leaf until this part reaches the maximum extension thereof, hitting the stop and thereby marking the position for limiting the opening of the leaf. In that limited opening position, the leaf can no longer open more, but the leaf can return to the closed position.

[0013] In a position prior to opening in which the leaf contacts the frame, the actuator, usually a handle, is turned, moving the movable flat downwards, forcing the second end of the arm to move downwards and can therefore come out of the channel through the lower end of the first channel, such that the leaf is not retained and can move freely.

[0014] In this completely open position, the leaf is free with respect to the frame and can be opened completely. This position is optional, so under certain circumstances, it may not be necessary to be able to open the window completely.

[0015] The window can be arranged in a closed position as a result of a closure mechanism, independent from the limiter for limiting opening, which keeps the leaf retained against the frame. Alternatively, the assembly can be configured to perform closure without having to depend on a closure mechanism independent from the limiter. Specifically, the strike may comprise a second channel facing the stop and the assembly comprises a closure part attached to the attachment element, wherein in a closed position in which the movable flat moves, the closure part is configured to be housed in the second channel with sliding possibility, preventing the movement of the leaf. Therefore, the closure can be presented integrated in the assembly or as a complementary device that is not part of the invention.

[0016] In this way, the assembly allows limiting and/or sequencing the opening of the leaves with respect to the frame, such that it enables the selection of 3 different positions: closed, limited opening, and open.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

[0018] Figure 1 shows a limiter assembly (1) for limiting the opening of a sliding door or window installed in a sliding door in a limited opening position. The sliding door has a movable leaf (2) and a fixed frame (4) provided with a frame edge (3), wherein the assembly (1) is linked to both in this limited opening position and limits the movement of opening the leaf (2) with respect to the frame edge (3).

[0019] Figure 2 shows a first perspective view of a limiter assembly in a limited opening position, according to the present invention, installed in a door in which some of the elements thereof have been concealed. The assembly (1) is intended for being linked both to the fixed frame (4) and to the movable leaf (2), wherein the leaf (2) has a leaf edge (5), a fixed flat (6) fixed to the leaf edge (5), and a movable flat (7) which moves longitudinally in contact on the leaf edge (5) through the action of an actuator (8) which is preferably a handle.

[0020] The assembly (1) comprises an attachment element (10) fixed to the movable flat (7) in the embodiment that is shown and an articulated arm (16) provided with a joint (17) at one end which joins with the attachment element (10), and at least one guiding projection (18) at the other end thereof.

[0021] The assembly (1) also comprises a strike (11) having a first longitudinal channel (12) in which the arm (16) can move in a manner guided therein by the projections (18), not visible in the figure, and having an upper end (13) and a lower end (14) intended for being installed farther away from the attachment element (10) than the upper end (13). The strike (11) likewise comprises a stop (15) which in the embodiment that is shown is arranged close to the upper end (13) inside the first channel (12). The stop (15) in the embodiment that is shown is independent from the first channel (12), wherein in an alternative embodiment, it can be part of the channel such that the first channel (12) has a specific geometry to stop the movement of the arm (16).

[0022] In the limited opening position that is shown in which the leaf (2) slides and moves away from the frame (4), both not visible in the figure, the projection (18) of the arm (16) moves towards the upper end (13) of the first channel (12) until hitting the stop (15). In that position the arm (16) can no longer move and it prevents the complete opening of the leaf (2) with respect to the frame (4).

[0023] The movement of the movable flat (7) occurs when the actuator (8), which is a handle, is operated and turned from a closed position to a limiting position. The movable flat (7) moves as a result of a transmission mechanism (9) linked to the actuator (8) and to the movable flat (7), moving part of the limiter assembly (1) at the same time. This transmission mechanism (9) is widely known in sliding windows.

[0024] Figure 3 shows a second perspective view of a limiting assembly (1) in a limited opening position, according to the present invention.

[0025] Figure 4 shows a third perspective view of the limiting assembly (1). The embodiment that is shown depicts that there extends from the first channel (12) at both ends a flat segment (34) having a hole (35) intended for housing a fixing element, such as a screw, so as to enable attaching same to the frame edge (3). Since the lower end (14) of the first channel (12) is open, it allows the arm (16) to be able to come out of the first channel (12) in an open position. The first channel (12) has a first groove (25) that partially houses the arm (16) and allows the movement thereof along the strike (11).

[0026] The attachment element (10) is provided with a U-shaped sector (27) provided with an attachment surface (29) extending from the U-shaped sector (27) and intended for being linked to the movable flat (7). The arm (16) comprises at the end thereof two projections (18), one on each side, which is a first rod that goes through the arm (16). The stop (15) are two protrusions arranged on the sides of the first channel (12) such that they prevent the arm (16) from coming out through the upper end (13) of the strike (11). In turn, the joint (17) of the arm is attached to the U-shaped sector (27) and is a second rod that goes through the arm (16).

[0027] Figure 5 shows an elevational view of the assembly (1) installed in a window in a closed position. In this closed position, the actuator (8) is turned towards the assembly (1), i.e., downwards, and the door is closed by a closure mechanism (21) which is not part of the invention. The arm (16) is preferably parallel to the movable flat (7) and the projection (18) of the arm (16) remains inside the first channel (12). Parallel is understood to mean that the longitudinal axis of the arm (16) is parallel or almost parallel to the movable flat (7). In an alternative embodiment in which the arm (16) were not quadrangular, these elements could describe a small angle therebetween.

[0028] Figure 6 shows a view of the assembly (1) installed in a window in a pre-limiting position in which the actuator (8) has been turned 90° with respect to the closed position to the horizontal position and the movable flat (7) has moved towards the strike (11), i.e., downwards, in an assembly position, with the closure mechanism (21) being released. In Figure 6, in a situation prior to the limiting situation, the arm (16) is partially housed in the strike (11), since the guiding projection (18) is in the first channel (12).

[0029] The movement of the movable flat (7) determines the relative movement between the arm (16) and the strike (11) between a closed position of the leaf (2) with respect to the frame (4), such as that shown in Figure 5, in which the arm (16) is parallel to the movable flat (7) and the projection (18) of the arm (16) is inside the first channel (12), a limited opening position of the leaf (2) with respect to the frame (4) in which the arm (16) swings and the projection (18) contacts the stop, retaining the leaf (2) away from the frame (4) as shown in Figure 7, and a completely open position of the leaf (2) in which the arm (16) is parallel to the movable flat (7) and the projections (18) are outside the first channel (12) as shown in Figure 9.

[0030] Figure 8 shows a view of the assembly (1) installed in a window in a position prior to the completely open position. The actuator (8) has been turned 180° with respect to the closed position and the movable flat (7) has moved towards the strike (11). A completely open position of the leaf (2) in which the arm (16) is parallel to the movable flat (7) and the projections (18) are outside the first channel (12) is shown. In this position, the stop (15) comes out through the lower end (14) of the first channel (12) such that it is no longer retained therein and in this position the leaf (2) can slide and separate from the frame (4), as shown in Figure 9, with the arm being attached to the movable flat (7) of the leaf.

[0031] Figure 9 shows a view of the assembly (1) installed in a window in a completely open position.

[0032] Figure 10 shows an alternative configuration of an assembly (1), wherein closing the leaf (2) on the frame (4) is achieved as a result of the configuration of the assembly (1) itself. Specifically, the strike (11) comprises a second channel (19) facing the stop (15). The channels (12, 19) are segments with a C-shaped profile and are attached by a flat attachment segment extending therebetween. The first channel (12) limits a first groove (25) along which the arm (16) slides and the second channel (19) limits a second groove (26).

[0033] The assembly (1) comprises a closure part (22) attached to the attachment element (10), wherein in a closed position in which the movable flat (7) moves, the closure part (22) is configured to be housed in the second channel (19) with sliding possibility, preventing the movement of the leaf (2).

[0034] The closure part (22) comprises a first sector (23) which can be housed in the second channel (19) and a second sector (24) extending from the first sector (23) and is intended for being arranged facing the movable flat (7), which is narrower than the first sector (23) such that it can move in a guided manner along the second groove (26) of the second channel.
