TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to an adjustable edge carpentry assembly, which has
applications in the construction industry, and more specifically in the field of interior
architecture, particularly in the field of fittings required in carpentry for doors
and windows intended to be concealed or flush with the wall, allowing, through the
use of the same parts, adaptation to different wall and door or window thicknesses,
with great speed and ease of assembly on site, with the consequent reduction in stock
and assembly times that this entails.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Currently, in the field of construction and interior architecture, in certain cases,
the arrangement of doors and windows that are flush with the wall or partition in
which they are located, without any frame or any other element other than the line
separating the surface of the door or window and the wall itself being visible, is
well known and appreciated in high-end properties. Preferably, this flushness is achieved
on both sides of the door or window, i.e. on both the inside and outside. In the case
of interior doors in the building, this means that the door is completely hidden and
flush with the walls on both sides.
[0003] This is particularly applicable in cases where the door incorporates a decorative
panel, which can be made of any material, in aesthetic harmony with the cladding,
whether surface finishes, tiling or cladding panels, of the walls surrounding the
door itself. In this way, when the door is closed, it is practically invisible, giving
the entire surface of the wall a continuity that is not interrupted by the presence
of the door.
[0004] Current technical solutions that allow the above solution to be achieved must take
into account that walls, whether interior partitions or exterior walls, have different
thicknesses in the design stage.
[0005] These solutions involve the custom manufacture of door and window frames so that
the edge of the door or window corresponds to the edge of the wall with which it must
be flush. This often involves the factory assembly of the door or window frame and
its subsequent installation on site. Obviously, the need to manufacture the frame
to measure entails high manufacturing and assembly costs and times, with the need
for measurements which, in the event of an error, require the frame to be returned
to the factory for a new one to be assembled with the correct measurements.
[0006] In addition, it must be taken into account that, during on-site installation, these
thicknesses do not correspond exactly to the design values and depend on the installation
itself. Finally, the finishes of each wall, which may include panels and tiling, are
another factor that influences the final edge of each wall.
[0007] All this means that the factory assembly of a frame with the project dimensions of
the wall or partition means that when it is assembled on site, the desired concealment
effect is not achieved and the thicknesses of the leaf, whether it is a door or a
window, will not correspond to the edge of the wall, with the time and economic cost
that this entails, as it means reassembling the frame with the actual dimensions.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0008] The present invention relates to an adjustable edge carpentry assembly, which, with
only two universal pieces, allows for quick installation on site that can be adapted
to any edge of the leaf, the leaf being understood to be a door or window, so that
once installed, the leaf is completely flush with the wall or partition wall, regardless
of the edge of said wall once installed, as the leaf frame adapts to the edge of the
wall itself during assembly.
[0009] As mentioned above, the adjustable edge carpentry assembly proposed by the invention
allows a leaf (B) to be mounted in an opening in a wall (A) of a building, so that
the edge of the wall (A) corresponds to an edge of the leaf (B) itself, so that, once
installed, the leaf (B) is flush, preferably on both sides, although it could be on
only one side, with the wall (A).
[0010] According to the invention, the assembly comprises a first piece which, according
to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall, intended to be fixed internally to a first side of the leaf
(B),
- at least one second longitudinal wall intended to contact the edge of the leaf (B),
and
- a third longitudinal wall parallel to said at least one second longitudinal wall.
[0011] The assembly also comprises a second piece which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall intended to be fixed internally to a second side, opposite
the first side, of the leaf (B), and
- a second longitudinal wall designed to contact the third longitudinal wall of the
first piece in the assembled position, such that the relative position between the
first transverse wall of the first piece and the first transverse wall of the second
piece corresponds to the edge of the leaf (B).
[0012] These first and second pieces form what is known as a leaf frame, which in the case
of a door is the door frame, such that the clearance between these first and second
pieces defines the edge of the leaf, which is adjusted by the operator on site to
correspond to that of the wall in which the leaf is to be flush, all of this prior
to the installation of the fixings, which may be, for example, screws.
[0013] It should also be noted that the invention contemplates that the leaf frame is formed
solely by the sides, without the need to place said frame on the upper and lower horizontal
sides of the door. Obviously, it is also contemplated that the frame be complete,
for which purpose the pieces on each side are mitred together.
[0014] Although the defined assembly can be mounted directly into the wall opening (A),
the possibility is contemplated that the carpentry assembly of the invention may comprise
a third piece which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall intended to be fixed to a first face of the wall (A) by a
free end of said first transverse wall,
- a second longitudinal wall intended to contact the edge of the wall opening (A), and
- at least one third longitudinal wall parallel to the second longitudinal wall.
[0015] In this case, the assembly also comprises a fourth piece which, according to a cross-section,
comprises:
- a first transverse wall which is fixed by means of a side plate laterally to a second
face, opposite the first face, of the wall (A), and
- at least one second longitudinal wall intended to contact the third longitudinal wall
of the third piece in the assembled position, so that the relative position between
the first transverse wall of the third piece and the first transverse wall of the
fourth piece corresponds to the edge of the wall (A).
[0016] These third and fourth pieces form the wall frame, allowing it to be adapted to the
edge of the wall already constructed and on the basis of which the relative position
of the first and second pieces of the leaf frame is fixed. Obviously, the wall frame
may consist solely of the vertical sides or also of the upper crossbar that connects
to the mitred vertical side sections.
[0017] In the case of the wall frame, as in the case of the door frame, it is envisaged
that the assembly comprises means for fixing said relative position between said third
, and fourth pieces, as well as between said first and second pieces. Said fixing
may be carried out by any known means, such as screws, rivets, weld points, adhesives,
etc.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0018] To supplement the description being made and in order to aid in a better understanding
of the characteristics of the invention, in accordance with a preferred example of
its practical implementation, a set of drawings is included as an integral part of
said description, in which the following is represented in an illustrative and nonlimiting
manner:
Figure 1 shows a cross-section of an embodiment of the first and second pieces that
form the leaf frame of the invention as a whole.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of an embodiment of the third and fourth parts that
form the wall frame of the invention.
Figure 3 shows a schematic perspective view in which both the leaf frame and the wall
frame of the embodiments shown in Figures 1 and 2 can be seen in cross-section.
Figure 4 shows a cross-section of the assembly shown in Figure 3.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0019] In view of the figures described, it can be seen how, in one of the possible embodiments
of the invention, the carpentry assembly proposed by the invention allows a leaf (B)
to be mounted in an opening in a wall (A) of a building, so that the edge of the wall
(A) corresponds to an edge of the leaf (B) itself, so that, once installed, the leaf
(B) is flush, preferably on both sides, although it could be on only one side, with
the wall (A), as can be seen in Figures 3 and 4.
[0020] As shown in Figure 1, the assembly comprises a first piece (1) which, according to
a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (2), intended to be fixed internally to a first side of the
leaf (B),
- at least one second longitudinal wall (3) intended to contact the edge of the leaf
(B), and
- a third longitudinal wall (4) parallel to said at least one second longitudinal wall
(3).
[0021] The assembly also comprises a second part (5) which, according to a cross-section,
comprises:
- a first transverse wall (6) intended to be fixed internally to a second side, opposite
the first side, of the leaf (B), and
- a second longitudinal wall (7) designed to contact the third longitudinal wall (4)
of the first piece (1) in the assembled position, such that the relative position
between the first transverse wall (2) of the first piece (1) and the first transverse
wall (6) of the second piece (5) corresponds to the edge of the leaf (B).
[0022] These first and second pieces (1, 5) form what is known as a leaf frame.
[0023] As can be seen in Figure 2, according to one embodiment of the invention, the carpentry
assembly comprises a third piece (8) which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (9) intended to be fixed to a first face of the wall (A) by
a free end of said first transverse wall (9),
- a second longitudinal wall (10) intended to contact the edge of the wall opening (A),
and
- at least one third longitudinal wall (11) parallel to the second longitudinal wall
(10).
[0024] In this case, the assembly also comprises a fourth part (12) which, according to
a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (13) which is fixed by means of a plate (14) laterally to
a second face, opposite the first face, of the wall (A), and
- at least one second longitudinal wall (15) intended to contact the third longitudinal
wall (11) of the third piece (8) in the assembled position, such that the relative
position between the first transverse wall (9) of the third piece (8) and the first
transverse wall (13) of the fourth piece (12) corresponds to the edge of the wall
(A).
[0025] The third and fourth parts (8, 12) form the wall frame.
[0026] The assembly comprises means (16) for fixing the relative position between said third
and fourth parts (8, 12), as well as between said first and second parts (1, 5).
[0027] In view of this description and set of figures, those skilled in the art will understand
that the embodiments of the invention described may be combined in multiple ways within
the scope of the invention. The invention has been described according to some preferred
embodiments thereof, but it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that multiple
variations may be introduced into said preferred embodiments without exceeding the
scope of the claimed invention.
1. Adjustable edge carpentry assembly for mounting a leaf (B) in an opening in a wall
(A) of a building, the edge of which corresponds to an edge of the leaf (B) itself,
so that, once installed, the leaf (B) is flush with the wall (A) on at least one side,
characterised in that it comprises:
- a first piece (1) which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (2) intended to be fixed internally to a first side of the
leaf (B),
- at least one second longitudinal wall (3) intended to contact the edge of the leaf
(B), and
- a third longitudinal wall (4) parallel to said at least one second longitudinal
wall (3); and
- a second piece (5) which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (6) intended to be fixed internally to a second side, opposite
the first side, of the leaf (B), and
- a second longitudinal wall (7) intended to contact the third longitudinal wall (4)
of the first piece (1) in the assembled position, such that the relative position
between the first transverse wall (2) of the first piece (1) and the first transverse
wall (6) of the second piece (5) corresponds to the edge of the leaf (B).
2. Carpentry assembly according to claim 1, comprising:
- a third piece (8) which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (9) intended to be fixed to a first face of the wall (A)
by a free end of said first transverse wall (9),
- a second longitudinal wall (10) intended to contact the edge of the wall opening
(A), and
- at least one third longitudinal wall (11) parallel to the second longitudinal wall
(10); and
- a fourth piece (12) which, according to a cross-section, comprises:
- a first transverse wall (13) which is fixed by means of a plate (14) laterally to
a second face, opposite the first face, of the wall (A), and
- at least a second longitudinal wall (15) intended to contact the third longitudinal
wall (11) of the third part (8) in the assembled position, so that the relative position
between the first transverse wall (9) of the third part (8) and the first transverse
wall (13) of the fourth part (12) corresponds to the edge of the wall (A); and
- means (16) for fixing said relative position between said third and fourth parts
(8, 12).
