[0001] The present invention refers to a table, in particular to a multifunctional table
for providing separate eating and working portions.
[0002] Tables that provide an eating portion and a separate working portion are known and
used in private households to combine a table for eating and a table for working,
for example for remote work. There are tables that have a dining surface and a work
surface, with the work surface top being arranged below the dining surface and can
be pulled out horizontally from under or relative to the dining surface top like a
drawer. There are also tables where the dining surface can be adjusted, in particular
pivoted, releasing the work surface by adjusting the dining surface.
[0003] In case of known tables, the work surface must be cleared after use, as there is
insufficient space for work equipment when eating. In addition, dependent on the specific
design, there is a risk that spilled liquids, crumbs or the like will enter the work
area while eating and damage or destroy the respective work equipment.
[0004] Against the background set out above, the objective of the present invention has
been to specify a table, which provides sufficient space for work equipment when using
the table as a dining table, while at the same time the work equipment is sufficiently
protected against damage.
[0005] With respect to the table this objective has been solved by the subject-matter of
claim 1. Advantageous embodiments are subject of the dependent claims and are explained
below.
[0006] According to the invention, a table, in particular a multifunctional table for providing
separate eating and working portions, is provided. The table comprises a table plate
structure comprising a dining surface for at least two persons and a standing structure
for supporting the table plate structure on a base, in particular a floor.
[0007] The table plate structure further comprises at least one dining table plate that
comprises at least a section of a dining surface and at least one working table plate.
The working table plate is arranged with a height distance to the dining table plate.
[0008] The dining table plate is adjustable, in particular pivotable, relative to the working
table plate from a lowered dining position into a raised working position. In a raised
working position of the dining table plate, the table plate structure releases a workspace
being at least section wise defined by the working table plate. In a lowered dining
position of the dining table plate, the table plate structure encloses the workspace
located between the working table plate and the dining table plate.
[0009] The table thus provides an easy way to switch between a dining position for eating
or for using the table as a dining table on the one hand and a working position for
working on the other hand. By enclosing the workspace in the dining position of the
dining table plate, space can be provided for work equipment so that work equipment
can remain in the workspace when eating or using the table as a dining table. Unintentional
access to the work equipment is then prevented. Furthermore, it can be prevented and/or
made more difficult for spilled liquids and/or crumbs to enter the workspace and damage
or destroy or contaminate the work equipment. Due to the enclosed workspace, the overall
protection of the respective work equipment inside the workspace may be improved.
[0010] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, the working table plate extends
along a horizontal plane or an at least substantially horizontal plane, which enables
and/or simplifies ergonomic working.
[0011] According to a further preferred embodiment, the working table plate is, in a lowered
position of the dining table plate, arranged beneath the dining table plate. The workspace
is then enclosed and protected by the dining table plate in the dining position of
the dining table plate, particularly from an upper side.
[0012] In a preferred manner, the working table plate is fixedly attached and/or unmovable
and/or unpivotable relative to the standing structure. The working table plate is
then kept particularly stable. The fixed design of the working table plate can prevent
work equipment from unintentionally sliding down, being pushed aside and/or falling
over or down from the table.
[0013] In a further preferred manner, the dining table plate extends, in a lowered dining
position, along a horizontal plane or an at least substantially horizontal plane and/or
parallel to the working table plate. Eating or dining at the table is then perceived
as particularly pleasant. At the same time, it can prevent objects from sliding or
falling off the dining table plate.
[0014] In a further preferred manner, dining table plate, in a raised working position,
forms an angle of at least 60° relative to a horizontal plane and/or of more than
90° relative to the lowered dining position. The table then provides convenient access
to the workspace in the raised working position of the dining table plate.
[0015] In particular, the dining table plate is pivotable by more than 90° between the lowered
dining position and the raised working position, preferably by more than 100° or more
than 105° or more than 110° or substantially 110° between the lowered dining position
and the raised working position. The dining table plate is then not perceived as a
hindrance during work and allows goof and comfortable access to the working space.
Furthermore, objects, such as a monitor or screen, attached to the lower surface of
the dining table plate may be viewed particularly comfortable from a user when using
the workspace.
[0016] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, the workspace is, when the dining
table plate is in the lowered dining position, closed off and/or sealed. Preferably
the workspace is closed off and/or sealed such that liquid spilled on the dining table
plate is prevented from entering the workspace and/or unintentional and/or undesired
access to workspace is prevented and/or damage of work equipment inside the workspace
is prevented. The work material is thus particularly well protected from contamination,
dirt and/or damage during any meal time or dining use of the table. The work equipment
can thus be stored safely in the workspace.
[0017] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the working table plate
comprises a smaller plate surface than the dining table plate. The working table plate
is protected by the dining table plate in the dining position and shielded from objects
placed on the dining table plate in an even improved manner.
[0018] According to a further preferred embodiment, the workspace is enclosed in the peripheral
direction by a side wall or by a plurality of side walls. The workspace is further
protected and/or shielded by the side wall or plurality of side walls.
[0019] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the dining table plate
comprises at least one free side, which in the lowered dining position is formed as
a free end of the dining table plate, and a hinge side associated with a pivot axis
of the dining table plate. In particular the free side and the hinge side are arranged
facing away from each other. The dining table plate can be gripped at the free end
in the dining position and adjusted to the working position to release the workspace,
which results in a simple adjustment mechanism and convenient useability.
[0020] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, one of the side walls,
in particular the side wall in a section associated with the hinge side and/or the
side wall being arranged opposite to a free end of the dining table, comprises a cable
tunnel for passing cables into the workspace. Work equipment and/or technical devices
in the workspace can be permanently supplied with power and/or data signals through
the cable tunnel.
[0021] One of the side walls, in particular the side wall in a section associated with the
hinge side, can comprise an electrical connection, preferably a USB and/or socket
connection. This means that a USB and/or socket connection is available in the workspace
at all times, regardless of the position of the dining table plate. The useability
of the table for work purposes may thereby be further improved.
[0022] Preferably, a lighting device is arranged on the underside of the dining table plate,
in particular on the underside of the dining table plate in relation to the dining
position of the dining table plate.
[0023] Additionally or alternatively, the lighting device may be arranged on a side wall
being attached to the underside of the dining table plate, in particular on the underside
of the dining table plate in relation to the dining position of the dining table plate.
Preferably, the lighting device may be arranged particularly on an inner side of a
side wall, facing to the interior of the workspace, said side wall being attached
to the underside of the dining table plate, in particular on the underside of the
dining table plate in relation to the dining position of the dining table plate. In
this way, when the dining table plate is in working position, particularly extending
mainly along a vertical direction, the light may point downwards and may be located
in front of a screen being attached to the underside of the dining table plate.
[0024] The lighting device may further be preferably configured to automatically turn on
lighting in a working position of the dining table plate and/or when the dining table
plate is being moved away from the lowered dining position. The lighting device may
further be preferably configured to automatically turn off lighting in a dining position
of the dining table plate and/or when the dining table plate is being moved away from
the raised working position. The lighting device thus ensures that the workspace and/or
working table plate can be sufficiently illuminated during work, while at the same
time providing a convenient use of the table in view of turning the lighting device
on and/or off by movement of the dining table plate.
[0025] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, a fastening system for fastening
objects, such as a screen, is arranged on the underside of the dining table plate,
in particular on the underside of the dining table plate in relation to the dining
position of the dining table plate. The workspace and/or workplace can then be easily
adapted and/or customized to the needs of the user.
[0026] Furthermore, apart from a screen or monitor, also an electrical device and/or accessory
in general may be attached to the dining table plate, in particular via the fastening
system for fastening objects.
[0027] The fastening system can comprise at least one threaded hole and/or a slot nut system
with at least one rail for slot nuts for fastening objects, with which objects can
be quickly and easily attached to the underside of the dining table plate. Such a
fastening system also provides a high degree of assembly safety.
[0028] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, the dining table plate is connected
to and/or supported relative to the table plate structure and/or to a side wall and/or
an adjacent portion of the table plate structure by at least one hinge or a plurality
of hinges, in particular a concealed hinge and/or a multi-joint hinge or a plurality
of concealed hinges and/or multi-joint hinges and/or a bench seat hinge and/or a corner
bench hinge and/or a corner bench hinge free of any spring. A simple-to-use and durable
adjustment mechanism can be provided in this way.
[0029] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the dining table plate
is connected to and/or supported relative to the table plate structure and/or to a
side wall and/or an adjacent portion of the table plate structure by at least one
gas spring. The gas spring can be used to simplify the adjustment of the dining table
plate and/or to allow it to be adjusted with little effort. In addition, the gas spring
can be used to reliably secure the dining table plate in the working position to prevent
it from being adjusted to the dining position.
[0030] In particular, the gas spring or the combination of gas springs arranged at or associated
with a dining table plate comprises a spring force of at least 50 Nm, preferably at
least 75 Nm, more preferably at least 100 Nm, more preferably at least 150 Nm, and/or
less than 300 Nm, preferably less than 250 Nm, more preferably less than 200 Nm. Alternatively
or additionally the gas spring is preferably configured to provide a holding force
for maintaining at least a raised working position of the dining table plate and/or
any position of the dining table plate.
[0031] Alternatively or additionally the dining table plate is preferably haltable by the
gas spring in any position between the lowered dining position and the raised working
position, particularly in an position or at any pivoting angle adjustable in a stepless
manner. Adjusting the dining table plate can thereby be simplified and/or done with
very little effort. At the same time, the dining table plate can be held in at least
one predetermined position and/or arbitrary positions.
[0032] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the dining table plate
and/or the working table plate is arranged at a short end of the table plate structure
or at a long end of the table plate structure or at a portion of a table plate structure
with a round shape. The workspace can then be located in different places on the table.
The table plate structure can be of different shapes. The overall design flexibility
may thereby be improved and the usability for different use purposes be improved.
[0033] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the table plate structure
comprises at least two or more than two dining table plates, each dining table plate
comprising at least a section of a dining surface. The two dining table plates may
be operated independently from each other.
[0034] Preferably, two dining table plates are adjustable, in particular pivotable, relative
to the or a working table plate from a lowered dining position into a raised working
position, particularly independently from each other. The table may then advantageously
provide two workspaces and/or work areas.
[0035] Alternatively or additionally two adjustable dining table plates are arranged on
opposite sides of the table plate structure, in particular at opposite short ends
or long ends of the table plate structure. The table may then advantageously provide
two workspaces and/or work areas on opposite sides, whereby the usability for at least
two users at opposite sides of the table is improved.
[0036] Additionally or alternatively, two or more adjustable dining table plates may be
arranged on one side of the table plate structure, in particular at one short end
or long end of the table plate structure. The table may then advantageously provide
two or more workspaces and/or work areas on the same side, particularly the same long
end or short end, whereby the usability for at least two users at the same side of
the table is improved.
[0037] Alternatively, the table plate structure may comprise only one dining table plate,
said dining table plate comprising at least a section of a dining surface.
[0038] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the table plate structure
comprises at least two or more than two workspaces and/or at least two or more than
two working table plates, each limiting a respective workspace.
[0039] Alternatively or additionally two workspaces and/or two working table plates are
arranged at two opposite of the table plate structure, in particular at opposite short
ends or long ends of the table plate structure. Alternatively, the table plate structure
may comprise only one workspace and only one working table plate.
[0040] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, a functional section adjoins
the workspace and/or the dining table plate in the dining position, in particular
the hinged side of the dining table plate, in a horizontal direction. The table can
provide at least one additional function via the functional section, thereby further
improving the usability and/or convenience for a user.
[0041] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the functional section
is arranged as an intermediate section, preferably between two workspaces and/or between
a workspace and a further section, which gives the table a uniform appearance and
clear separation into different sections.
[0042] Preferably, the functional section and/or the intermediate section comprises at least
a storage space for items and/or a plurality of compartments and/or at least one removable
or hinged table plate section. The table may thus be designed to hold additional items,
further increasing its functionality. In the case of a removable table plate section,
the table can also be further customized by exchanging the removable table plate section.
[0043] Further preferably, the removable or hinged table plate section, when removed or
upwardly pivoted, opens up a storage space for items and/or at least one compartment.
Alternatively or additionally, the removable or hinged table plate section, when unremoved
or downwardly maintained in closing position, is arranged adjacent to at least one
dining table plate and/or comprises at least a section of a dining surface. The storage
space can then be made accessible and covered with only little effort and high operational
safety. The storage space can thus be made easily accessible and covered.
[0044] In a preferred embodiment, the dining table plate section is preferably connected
to and/or supported relative to the table plate structure and/or to a side wall and/or
an adjacent portion of the table plate structure by at least one gas spring. Pivoting
the dining table plate section between different pivoting positions may thereby be
facilitated.
[0045] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, the functional section and/or intermediate
section comprises at least one drawer, in particular whereby the interior space of
the drawer can be covered and/or accessed by means of a removable table plate section,
which can further increase the functionality of the table.
[0046] Alternatively, the functional section and/or the entire table plate structure can
be free of any drawer or drawer arrangement.
[0047] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the functional section
and/or intermediate section comprises at least one removable or hinged table plate
section or more than one or three or less than three or more than three removable
or hinged table plate sections that adjoin one another, preferably along the hinge
side of a dining table plate, each removable or hinged table plate section preferably
releasing a separate storage space for objects or separate compartments when removed
or upwardly pivoted. The table may then provide various separate and/or individualized
areas for placing and/or storing items, thereby further improving the functionality.
[0048] Furthermore, a first removable or hinged table plate section, in particular a first
outer removable or hinged table plate section, when removed or upwardly pivoted, reveals
a technical compartment for accommodating cables, plugs, particularly multiple plugs
and/or the like. The technical compartment can be used to supply the work area and/or
workspace with electricity, cables, plugs or the like.
[0049] Preferably, a second outer table plate section, in particular a second outer removable
or hinged table plate section, when removed or upwardly pivoted, reveals a drawer
or drawer compartment. The drawer or drawer compartment is then also accessible from
above without having to pull out the drawer or drawer compartment.
[0050] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the cable tunnel connects
the technical compartment with the workspace or at least one of the workspaces. The
workspace can be supplied with cables or the like via the cable tunnel, and therewith
allow a particularly well arranged cable routing below the dining surface or within
the table itself.
[0051] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, a cable tunnel connects
two compartments of the functional section. Alternatively or additionally, the storage
spaces of the functional section arranged next to each other can be connected to each
other via a connecting channel for passing objects, in particular cables, through
them. The functional sections and/or the compartments of the functional sections arranged
next to each other are then connected and/or can be connected to each other via the
cable duct. The routing of cables and/or other objects may thereby be further be improved.
[0052] According to a preferred embodiment, the functional section and/or intermediate section
comprises a middle compartment, particularly arranged between two further compartments
or between the technical compartment and the drawer compartment. The table then provides
three different functional sections and/or compartments, therewith further improving
the functionality of the cable.
[0053] According to a further preferred embodiment, the middle compartment is configured
as a custom compartment and/or is configurable, particularly reconfigurable in a toolless
manner. Alternatively or additionally, the middle compartment is covered by a removable
or hinged and/or replaceable table plate section, in particular a table plate section
being replaceable to customize the table plate structure. The table can then be customized
and/or individualized with very little effort and/or cost, in order to change and/or
individualize the appearance and/or functionality of the table.
[0054] Preferably, the removable or hinged and/or replaceable table plate section is flat
and comprises a section of a dining surface and/or covers a storage area underneath.
The removable or hinged and/or replaceable table plate section may then not only cover
the storage area but also provides an area of the dining table plate.
[0055] In particular, the removable or hinged and/or replaceable table plate section and/or
the middle compartment comprises an add-on arrangement, preferably a library, a tea
station device, a decorative device, and/or a herb garden. The table can then provide
further comfort functions.
[0056] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, the table plate structure comprises
at least one collecting channel for collecting liquids, wherein said collecting channel
or at least a collecting channel is preferably arranged below the dining table plate
or below one of the dining table plates and/or below one or more removable or hinged
dining table plate sections and/or extends along the hinge side of the dining table
plate and/or perpendicular to a side wall associated with the hinge side.
[0057] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the collecting channel
is arranged within a side wall limiting the workspace. Alternatively or additionally,
the collecting channel or a collecting channel is preferably arranged below a gap
between two dining table plates or between an adjustable dining table plate and a
removable or hinged dining table plate section and/or between two removable or hinged
dining table plate sections. Liquid that is spilled or which leaks out, especially
on the dining table plate and/or dining table plate section, can then be collected
by the collecting channel. This effectively prevents the liquid from entering the
workspace, thereby avoiding or reducing the risk of damage to working equipment in
the workspace.
[0058] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the collecting channel
or a collecting channel is, along a cross section, wider than a gap above the respective
collecting channel, in particular a gap between two dining table plates or between
an adjustable dining table plate and a removable or hinged dining table plate section
and/or between two removable or hinged dining table plate sections. The collection
of liquids and dirt can thus be further improved, which may lead to better operational
safety of the table.
[0059] Preferably, the collecting channel is open ended on either side, in particular such
that liquids can drain through said channel away from the workspace and/or out of
the table plate structure. The collection channel is then accessible from the outside
and/or one or both side of the table and can be cleaned quickly and easily, while
liquid may also be guided out of the channel efficiently.
[0060] According to a preferred embodiment, the table may comprise at least one sealing
element or a plurality of sealing elements. Such sealing element may particular be
designed or configured as a flexible rubber weather seal and/or a window type rubber
seal. The sealing element may at least section wise or entirely be arranged or fixed
alongside the collecting channel or alongside the collecting channels.
[0061] Furthermore, the sealing element may be fixed to a side wall, in particular to a
narrow end face of the respective side wall. The sealing element may also be fixed
to the dining table plate, in particular to an underside of the dining table plate,
particularly such that in a lowered dining position or closing position of the dining
table plate, the sealing element is arranged adjacent to the corresponding collecting
channel in order to provide a sealing functionality. The sealing element may also
be fixed to a removable or hinged table plate section, in particular to an underside
of a removable or hinged table plate section, particularly such that in a lowered
dining position or a closing position of the removable or hinged table plate section,
the sealing element is arranged adjacent to the corresponding collecting channel in
order to provide a sealing functionality.
[0062] According to a preferred embodiment of the table, at least one side wall of the workspace,
in particular a side wall facing a workspace user, is fixedly attached to the dining
table plate and moves together with the dining table plate between a lowered dining
position and a raised working position. The dining table plate can also be held and/or
gripped on the side wall for adjustment. The accessibility of the workspace may thereby
be further improved in a raised working position of the dining table plate.
[0063] According to a further preferred embodiment of the table, the side of the workspace
facing a workspace user is, in a raised working position of the dining table plate,
free of a sidewall. The workspace is then designed to be particularly accessible for
a user. In the working position, accessibility to the work area is not limited or
restricted by a side wall on the side facing the user.
[0064] Preferably, the dining table plate and/or the table plate section and/or the side
wall and/or the working table plate comprises solid wood and/or wood fiberboard and/or
a veneer layer at least in sections.
[0065] Preferably, the standing element comprises a supporting structure, in particular
a supporting frame, and/or a plurality of table legs, in particular table legs attached
to the supporting frame.
[0066] Preferably, the table plate structure comprises a rectangular, oval square, or round
shape in horizontal direction. In particular, the table plate structure comprises
a length and/or diameter of at least 60 cm, preferably of at least 80cm, more preferably
of at least 100 cm, more preferably of at least 120 cm, more preferably of at least
140 cm, more preferably of at least 160 cm, and/or a width of at least 40 cm, more
preferably of at least 60 cm, more preferably of at least 80 cm, more preferably of
at least 100 cm.
[0067] Preferably, the height of the top surface of the dining table plate in the dining
position is at least 50 cm, more preferably of at least 60 cm, more preferably of
at least 70 cm, and/or less than 150 cm, preferably less than 130 cm, more preferably
less than 110 cm, more preferably less than 100 cm.
[0068] In the following, the invention is described by way of example on the basis of advantageous

[0070] Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a table 10, in particular of a multifunctional
table 10 for providing separate eating and working portions according to an embodiment
of the invention. Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the table of Figure 1 in a
working position. Figure 3 shows a cross section of the table 10 of Figure 1 in the
eating position. Figures 4 and 5 schematically show a detailed cross section of the
table 10 in the working position.
[0071] The table 10 comprises a table plate structure 12 comprising a dining surface 14
for at least two persons. Further, the table 10 comprises a standing structure 16
for supporting the table plate structure 12 on a base, in particular a floor. The
table plate structure 12 can be fixedly attached and/or unmovable and/or unpivotable
relative to the standing structure 16.
[0072] The table plate structure 12 comprises at least one dining table plate 18 that comprises
at least a section of a dining surface 14. The table plate structure 12 further comprises
at least one working table plate 22 - as shown for example in Figure 2 - arranged
with a height distance to the dining table plate 18. The working table plate 22 is
preferably arranged under the dining table plate 18.
[0073] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the dining table plate 18 is adjustable, in particular
pivotable, relative to the working table plate 22 from a lowered dining position -
shown Figures 1 and 3 - into a raised working position - shown in Figures 2, 4 and
5. In a raised working position of the dining table plate 18, the table plate structure
12 releases a workspace 24 being at least section wise defined by the working table
plate 22, as for example shown in Figures 2 and 5.
[0074] In a lowered dining position of the dining table plate 18, as for example shown in
Figures 1 and 3, the table plate structure 12 encloses the workspace 24 located between
the working table plate 22 and the dining table plate 18. In particular, in the lowered
dining position of the dining table plate 18 the table plate structure 12 may entirely
enclose the workspace 24.
[0075] The dining table plate 18 and/or the working table plate 22 is preferably arranged
at a short end of the table plate structure 12 or at a long end of the table plate
structure 12 or at a portion of a table plate structure 12 with a round shape. In
the example shown in the figures, the dining table plate 18 and/or the working table
plate 22 is arranged at a short end of the table plate structure 12.
[0076] The working table plate 22 preferably extends along or parallel to a horizontal plane
H or along or parallel to an at least substantially horizontal plane H, which makes
it pleasant to work at.
[0077] The working table plate 22 may be fixedly attached and/or unmovable and/or unpivotable
relative to the standing structure 16, which gives the table 10 a particularly high
degree of stability.
[0078] The dining table plate 18 preferably extends, in a lowered dining position, along
or parallel to a horizontal plane H or along or parallel to an at least substantially
horizontal plane H and/or parallel to the working table plate 22 as shown in Figure
3.
[0079] Starting from the lowered dining position, the dining table plate 18 can be moved
and/or adjusted, in particular pivoted, to a raised working position, as shown in
Figures 2 and 5. In the raised working position, the dining table plate 18 can form
an angle of at least 60° relative to a horizontal plane H and/or of more than 90°
relative to the lowered dining position.
[0080] In particular, the dining table plate 18 is pivotable by more than 90° between the
lowered dining position and the raised working position, preferably by more than 100°
or more than 105° or more than 110° or substantially 110° between the lowered dining
position and the raised working position.
[0081] When the dining table plate 18 is in the lowered dining position, as shown in Fig-ures
1 and 3, the workspace 24 is, preferably, closed off and/or sealed. In particular,
the workspace 24 is closed off and/or sealed such that liquid spilled on the dining
table plate 18 is prevented from entering the workspace 24, when the dining table
plate 18 is in the lowered dining position.
[0082] Preferably, the working table plate 22 comprises a smaller plate surface than the
dining table plate 18. In the lowered dining position of the dining table plate 18,
the workspace 24 can be enclosed in the peripheral direction by a side wall 26 or
by a plurality of side walls 26.
[0083] The dining table plate 18 preferably comprises at least one free side 18a, which
in the lowered dining position is formed as a free end of the dining table plate 18,
and a hinge side 18b associated with a pivot axis A of the dining table plate 18.
The free side 18a and the hinge side 18b are preferably arranged facing away from
each other.
[0084] As shown in Figure 4, one of the side walls 26, in particular the side wall 26 in
a section associated with the hinge side 18b, comprises a cable tunnel 29 for passing
cables into the workspace 24. One of the side walls 26, in particular the side wall
26 in a section associated with the hinge side 18b, may comprise an electrical connection
20, preferably a USB and/or socket connection. The electrical connection 20 may be
configured for power supply, in particular for power supply to an electrical appliance
arranged within the workspace 24 or, if required, also outside the workspace 24.
[0085] Furthermore, one of the side walls 26, in particular the side wall 26 in a section
associated with the hinge side 18b, may comprise a control device 28, preferably an
electrical control device 28, particularly for controlling or initiating a change
of the height of the entire table 10. For example, the control device 28 may control
the drives of the table standing structure 16 for height adjustment. The table standing

may be arranged on a sidewall 26 limiting the outer periphery of the table 10. Such
a control device may further particularly be arranged on a sidewall 26 limiting the
workspace 24 from an exterior space of the table 10 and the respective control device
may face outwards from the workspace 24 to the exterior space of the table 10, in
particular facing outwards from the workspace 24 to the exterior space of the table
10 in a lowered dining position of the dining table plate. Likewise such a control
device may further particularly be arranged on a sidewall 26 limiting a technical
compartment 52 - to be described hereinafter in greater detail - from an exterior
space of the table 10 and such control device may face outwards from said technical
department 52 to the exterior space of the table 10. This allows, for the control
device to be operated also when the respective dining table plate 18 is in a lowered
dining position, and the workspace 24 being closed and therefore not directly accessible
for a user. Furthermore, such a control device facing the exterior space of the table
10 may be provided in addition to the control device 28 - as described above - facing
the interior of the workspace 24. Alternatively, such a control device facing the
exterior space of the table 10 may be provided instead of the control device 28 -
as described above - facing the interior of the workspace 24.
[0087] In a preferred embodiment, a lighting device 30 - as indicated in Figure 2 and not
shown in greater detail in Figures 4 and 5 - is arranged on the underside of the dining
table plate 18, in particular on the underside of the dining table plate 18 in relation
