<heading id="h0001">BACKGROUND</heading>
<p id="p0001" num="0001">The present disclosure relates to an image forming apparatus control method and an image forming apparatus.</p>
<p id="p0002" num="0002">The image forming apparatus control method is a method for correcting a printing parameter in accordance with density of an output image. The image forming apparatus implements the image forming apparatus control method.</p>
<p id="p0003" num="0003">In an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, various types of printing parameters are set so as to obtain an output image of appropriate density. For example, the printing parameters include a charging voltage for charging a photoconductor, a developing bias voltage, or a light beam amount that is scanned onto the photoconductor.</p>
<p id="p0004" num="0004">On the other hand, when a printing job is executed, the image forming apparatus executes the printing process at different printing speeds depending on whether color printing or monochrome printing is performed, or on a thickness of a sheet, or the like.</p>
<p id="p0005" num="0005">The image forming apparatus rotates the photoconductor and a plurality of rotating members linked to the photoconductor at a speed corresponding to the printing speed.</p>
<p id="p0006" num="0006">Specifically, the image forming apparatus rotates a plurality of conveying rollers that convey the sheet at a speed corresponding to the printing speed. In addition, the image forming apparatus may include an intermediate transfer member to which a toner image is transferred from the photoconductor and that transfers the toner image to the<!-- EPO <DP n="2"> --> sheet. In this case, the image forming apparatus rotates the intermediate transfer member at a speed corresponding to the printing speed.</p>
<p id="p0007" num="0007">A value of a printing parameter for obtaining the output image with an appropriate density may vary depending on the printing speed.</p>
<p id="p0008" num="0008">For example, it is known that the image forming apparatus detects a density of a test image under two conditions with different printing speeds, and sets a printing parameter for each printing speed according to the detected density.</p>

<heading id="h0004">DETAILED DESCRIPTION</heading>
<p id="p0013" num="0013">Hereinafter, an embodiment according to the present disclosure will be<!-- EPO <DP n="5"> --> described with reference to the drawings. Note that the following embodiments are examples of a specific embodiment according the present disclosure, and do not limit the technical scope of the present disclosure.</p>
<heading id="h0005">[Configuration of Image Forming Apparatus 10]</heading>
<p id="p0014" num="0014">An image forming apparatus 10 according to an embodiment is an apparatus that executes a printing process by an electrophotographic method. The printing process is a process in which an image is formed on a sheet 9. The sheet 9 is an image forming medium such as paper or a resin sheet.</p>
<p id="p0015" num="0015">The image forming apparatus 10 shown in <figref idref="f0001">FIG. 1</figref> is a printer. Note that the image forming apparatus 10 may be a copier, a facsimile machine, a multifunction peripheral, or the like.</p>
<p id="p0016" num="0016">As shown in <figref idref="f0001">FIG. 1</figref>, the image forming apparatus 10 includes a main housing 1, a sheet storing portion 2, a conveying device 3, a printing device 4, a toner supplying device 5, a control device 8, an operating device 801, and a display device 802.</p>
<p id="p0017" num="0017">The conveying device 3, the printing device 4, the toner supplying device 5 and the control device 8 are housed in the main housing 1. A conveying path 300 for the sheet 9 is provided inside the main housing 1.</p>
<p id="p0018" num="0018">The conveying device 3 includes a sheet feeding mechanism 30 and a plurality of sets of conveying roller pairs 31. The sheet feeding mechanism 30 feeds each of the plurality of sheets 9 stored in the sheet storing portion 2 to the conveying path 300.</p>
<p id="p0019" num="0019">The plurality of sets of conveying roller pairs 31 convey each sheet 9 along the conveying path 300. One set of the plurality of sets of conveying roller pairs 31 discharges each sheet 9 on which an image has been formed by the printing device 4 from the conveying path 300 onto the discharge tray 1x.</p>
<p id="p0020" num="0020">The printing device 4 executes the printing process on each sheet 9 conveyed<!-- EPO <DP n="6"> --> along the conveying path 300 by the electrophotographic method.</p>
<p id="p0021" num="0021">The printing device 4 includes a laser scanning unit 40, one or more image forming portions 4x, a transfer device 44, and a fixing device 46. The printing device 4 shown in <figref idref="f0001">FIG. 1</figref> is a tandem color printing device. In this case, the printing device 4 includes a plurality of image forming portions 4x corresponding to a plurality of developing colors.</p>
<p id="p0022" num="0022">In the example shown in <figref idref="f0001">FIG. 1</figref>, the printing device 4 includes four image forming portions 4x corresponding to the developing colors of yellow, magenta, cyan, and black.</p>
<p id="p0023" num="0023">The plurality of image forming portions 4x include a plurality of photoconductors 41, a plurality of charging devices 42, a plurality of developing devices 43, and a plurality of drum cleaning devices 45. Each photoconductor 41 rotates, and each charging device 42 charges a surface of the photoconductor 41.</p>
<p id="p0024" num="0024">The laser scanning unit 40 scans a light beam across the charged surface of the photoconductor 41 to form an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the photoconductor 41. In the present embodiment, the light beam is a laser beam.</p>
<p id="p0025" num="0025">Each developing device 43 supplies toner to the surface of each photoconductor 41 to develop the electrostatic latent image into a toner image.</p>
<p id="p0026" num="0026">The transfer device 44 transfers the toner images on the surfaces of the plurality of photoconductors 41 onto each of the sheets 9 conveyed along the conveying path 300.</p>
<p id="p0027" num="0027">In the tandem printing device 4, the transfer device 44 includes an intermediate transfer belt 441, a plurality of primary transfer devices 442, a secondary transfer device 443, and a belt cleaning device 444. The plurality of primary transfer devices 442 are provided corresponding to the plurality of photoconductors 41.</p>
<p id="p0028" num="0028">The intermediate transfer belt 441 rotates with a portion thereof in contact with<!-- EPO <DP n="7"> --> the surfaces of the plurality of photoconductors 41. Each primary transfer device 442 transfers the toner image on the surface of each photoconductor 41 onto the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 441. Thus, a color toner image, which is a composite of the toner images of a plurality of colors, is formed on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 441.</p>
<p id="p0029" num="0029">The secondary transfer device 443 transfers the color toner image on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 441 onto each of the plurality of sheets 9 conveyed along the conveying path 300. That is, the transfer device 44 transfers the toner image on the surface of the photoconductor 41 onto the sheet 9 via the intermediate transfer belt 441.</p>
<p id="p0030" num="0030">The intermediate transfer belt 441 is an example of an intermediate transfer member. The intermediate transfer belt 441 is also an example of an image-carrying member that rotates while carrying the toner image.</p>
<p id="p0031" num="0031">The fixing device 46 applies heat and pressure to the color toner image on the sheet 9 to fix the color toner image to the sheet 9.</p>
<p id="p0032" num="0032">The toner supplying device 5 supplies toner to each of the developing devices 43.</p>
<p id="p0033" num="0033">The plurality of charging devices 42 include a plurality of charging rollers 421 and a charging voltage output device 422 that applies a charging voltage to the plurality of charging rollers 421 (see <figref idref="f0002">FIG. 2</figref>). The plurality of charging rollers 421 are arranged facing the plurality of photoconductors 41, respectively. Each charging roller 421 charges the surface of each photoconductor 41. Each charging roller 421 is an example of a charging body.</p>
<p id="p0034" num="0034">The plurality of developing devices 43 each include a plurality of developing agent storage portions 430, a plurality of developing rollers 431, and a developing voltage output device 432 (see <figref idref="f0002">FIG. 2</figref>). The plurality of developing rollers 431 are<!-- EPO <DP n="8"> --> arranged facing the plurality of photoconductors 41, respectively.</p>
<p id="p0035" num="0035">Each of the developing agent storage portions 430 stores developing agent including the toner. The developing voltage output device 432 applies a developing voltage to the plurality of developing rollers 431. The developing voltage is a bias voltage applied to each developing roller 431 with a potential of each photoconductor 41 as a reference.</p>
<p id="p0036" num="0036">Each of the developing rollers 431 carries the toner and rotates. Each developing device 43, by supplying the toner to the surface of each photoconductor 41 by each developing roller 431, develops the electrostatic latent image on the surface of each photoconductor 41 into the toner image. The plurality of developing rollers 431 is an example of a plurality of developing members.</p>
<p id="p0037" num="0037">Furthermore, the developing device 43 includes a developing agent stirring member 433 (see <figref idref="f0002">FIG. 2</figref>). The developing agent stirring member 433 rotates inside the developing agent storage portion 430 to stir the developing agent.</p>
<p id="p0038" num="0038">The operation device 801 is a device that receives human operations. For example, the operation device 801 includes one or both of a touch panel and operation buttons.</p>
<p id="p0039" num="0039">The display device 802 is capable of displaying various types of information. For example, the display device 802 is a panel display device such as a liquid crystal display device. The control device 8 controls various types of electrical devices included in the image forming apparatus 10.</p>
<p id="p0040" num="0040">As shown in <figref idref="f0002">FIG. 3</figref>, the control device 8 includes a central processing unit (CPU) 80, a random access memory (RAM) 81, a secondary storage device 82, a signal interface 83, a communication device 84, and the like.</p>
<p id="p0041" num="0041">The CPU 80 is an example of a processor that executes various types of control and data processing functions by executing computer programs. The RAM 81<!-- EPO <DP n="9"> --> temporarily stores the computer programs executed by the CPU 80 and various types of data.</p>
<p id="p0042" num="0042">The secondary storage device 82 is a computer-readable non-volatile storage device. The secondary storage device 82 stores the computer programs executed by the CPU 80 and various types of data. For example, one or both of a flash memory and a hard disk drive may be employed as the secondary storage device 82.</p>
<p id="p0043" num="0043">The signal interface 83 converts detection signals of various types of sensors into digital detection data. The detection data is transmitted to the CPU 80.</p>
<p id="p0044" num="0044">The communication device 84 executes communication with one or more host devices via a network. The CPU 80 executes communication with the host device via a communication device 84. The host device is an information processing apparatus that requests the image forming apparatus 10 to perform the printing process.</p>
<p id="p0045" num="0045">The CPU 80 includes a plurality of processing modules that are implemented by executing the computer programs. The plurality of processing modules include a main control portion 8a, a supply control portion 8b, a printing control portion 8c, and the like (see <figref idref="f0002">FIG. 2</figref>).</p>
<p id="p0046" num="0046">The main control portion 8a executes control that causes other modules to execute processing of receiving various types of requests and processing according to the requests. For example, the main control portion 8a receives a printing job request via the operation device 801 or the communication device 84, and transmits the printing job request to the printing control portion 8c.</p>
<p id="p0047" num="0047">The supply control portion 8b, by controlling the toner supplying device 5, controls the supply of toner from the toner supplying device 5 to the printing device 4.</p>
<p id="p0048" num="0048">The printing control portion 8c controls the conveying device 3 and the printing device 4. Thus, the printing control portion 8c causes the conveying device 3 and the printing device 4 to execute the printing job. In the printing job, the printing control<!-- EPO <DP n="10"> --> portion 8c causes the conveying device 3 to convey each of the plurality of sheets 9, and further causes the printing device 4 to execute the printing process on each of the sheets 9.</p>
<p id="p0049" num="0049">When the printing job is executed, the printing control portion 8c causes the printing device 4 to execute the printing process at different printing speeds depending on whether color printing or monochrome printing is being executed, the thickness of the sheet 9, or the like.</p>
<p id="p0050" num="0050">In the printing job, the printing control portion 8c causes the transfer device 44 to execute a process of transferring an image onto each of the plurality of sheets 9 while rotating the plurality of photoconductors 41 and a plurality of rotating members linked to the plurality of photoconductors 41 at a speed corresponding to the printing speed.</p>
<p id="p0051" num="0051">The plurality of rotating members include a plurality of sets of conveying roller pairs 31 and an intermediate transfer belt 441.</p>
<p id="p0052" num="0052">The printing control portion 8c sets various types of printing parameters so that an output image of appropriate density can be obtained. For example, the printing parameters are the charging voltage of each charging device 42, the developing voltage of each developing device 43, the light beam amount in the laser scanning unit 40, and the like.</p>
<p id="p0053" num="0053">The printing parameters may also be timing parameters in the laser scanning unit 40. The timing parameters are parameters that determine timing of scanning the light beams on each of the plurality of photoconductors 41. In a case in which the timing of scanning the light beams on each of the plurality of photoconductors 41 is out of sync, the density of the output image will decrease.</p>
<p id="p0054" num="0054">A value of a printing parameter for obtaining the output image with an appropriate density may vary depending on the printing speed.</p>
<p id="p0055" num="0055">In the image forming apparatus 10, an appropriate printing parameter may vary<!-- EPO <DP n="11"> --> depending on conditions such as usage environment and deterioration over time. <p id="p0151" num="0151">Moreover, after executing the second initial parameter setting process, the printing control portion 8c executes the parameter correction process to correct the printing parameter set in the printing device 4 while the printing job is being executed (see steps S107, S401, S402, S408 to S410).</p>
<p id="p0152" num="0152">In the parameter correction process, the printing control portion 8c causes the printing device 4 to execute a process of forming the test toner image in the invalid area on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 441 (see step S401).</p>
<p id="p0153" num="0153">Furthermore, in the parameter correction process, the printing control portion 8c converts the registered characteristic data D1 into target characteristic data D2 corresponding to the target printing speed based on the detected density of the test toner image (see steps S408 and S409).</p>
<p id="p0154" num="0154">Furthermore, in the parameter correction process, the printing control portion 8c, based on the target characteristic data D2 and the target image density DD1, derives the second correction parameter P2y, which is the corrected target printing parameter (see step S410). The printing control portion 8c further sets the second correction parameter P2y in the printing device 4 (see step S410).</p>
<p id="p0155" num="0155">By adopting the printing parameter control, even in a case in which the specific printing speed corresponding to the registered characteristic data D1 is different from the target printing speed corresponding to the printing job, there is no need to delay the start of the printing job in order to set the target characteristic data.<!-- EPO <DP n="26"> --></p>
<p id="p0156" num="0156">In addition, there is no need to interrupt the printing job to adjust the target characteristic data every time the adjustment condition is met during the execution of the printing job.</p>
<p id="p0157" num="0157">Therefore, by adopting the printing parameter control, it is possible to adjust the printing parameter to accommodate a plurality of printing speeds without increasing downtime.</p>
<p id="p0158" num="0158">In addition, in a case in which the specific printing speed is different from the target printing speed, the printing control portion 8c associates the target characteristic data D2 with the target printing speed and sets it as new registered characteristic data D1 (see step S109).</p>
<p id="p0159" num="0159">Therefore, even in a case in which the printing device 4 deteriorates over time, the printing parameter of the printing device 4 is set based on the registered characteristic data D1 that reflects the most recent state of the printing device 4.</p>

<p id="p0160" num="0160">Next, a modification of the image forming apparatus 10 will be described.</p>
<p id="p0161" num="0161">In the present modification, the printing device 4 is a device dedicated to monochrome printing. In the modification, a transfer device 44 includes a photoconductor 41 and a primary transfer device 442 arranged along a conveying path 300. In this case, the primary transfer device 442 transfers a toner image formed on the surface of the photoconductor 41 onto a sheet 9.</p>
<p id="p0162" num="0162">In the present modification, a density detection device 6 detects a test toner image formed in an invalid area of the photoconductor 41. In the present modification, the photoconductor 41 is an example of an image-carrying member.</p>
<p id="p0163" num="0163">In the present modification, the printing parameter includes a charging voltage in a charging device 42, a light beam amount in a laser scanning unit 40, or a<!-- EPO <DP n="27"> --> developing voltage in a developing device 43.</p>
