(57) A running toy which performs jumping or somersalt operations when it is running,
comprising a housing (1; 22) having wheels (3a, 3b; 28,30) for running; a moving portion
(6; 40) disposed in the housing so as to move in the upper and lower directions; a
spring (10; 44) which imparts the upward force to the moving portion; a stopper member
(11; 50) which holds the moving portion at the position where it is pushed down against
the resilient force of the spring; a rotary member (14; 64) which rotates being inter-locked
with the wheels for running; and an engagement-liberating member (15,76) which is
provided on the rotary member and liberates the engagement between the stopper member
and the moving portion when the rotary member is rotated by a predetermined position.
The rotary member comprises a gearwhich is rotated by the wheels for running, and
the engagement-liberating member comprises a projection provided on the surface of
the gear in an eccentric manner or a cam provided in concentric with the gear.
