    (54) Methods and apparatus for the combustion of organic matter


    (57) Combustible gas produced by thermal conversion of organic matter in a first chamber (50) is introduced together with air into a combustion chamber (51) which is defined by a surface of revolution (84) about a longitudinal axis (85) via one or more inlets (67) at an inlet end of the combustion chamber, combusted gas is withdrawn via an outlet (73) and a pressure gradient operates and reduces from the inlet end to the outlet end of the chamber (51).
