    (54) Reinforced shank plastic key


    (57) A molded plastics material key (10) having a handle (11), a shank (12) and a bit (13) and including a shank (12) reinforced to withstand torque applied through the head when resistance to turning is encountered after the key (10) is inserted into a lock. The reinforcement can include integrally molded thickening throughout the length of the shank (12) and extending at least partially onto the handle (11), reinforcement embedded at least partially within the key (10), a metallic reinforcing insert having an extension from the handle (11) into the shank (12), two reinforcing inserts, or fibrous reinforcement material. A key and holder combination is also provided.
