[0001] The present invention relates to a device for fixing the escutcheon plate of handles
and the like.
[0002] As is known, the escutcheon plates of handles and the like are currently fixed to
door- or window-frames by means of through front screws which connect the plate to
the frame; the escutcheon plate rotatably supports the handgrip of the handle.
[0003] With this embodiment, the screws, arranged frontally on the escutcheon plate, create
a rather unpleasant aesthetic effect which derives from the visible presence of the
screws.
[0004] A principal object of the invention is indeed to eliminate the problems described
above by providing a device for fixing the escutcheon plate of handles and the like
which allows to stably connect the escutcheon plate to the door- or window-frame without
the presence of front screws which are aesthetically unpleasant.
[0005] Within the scope of this object, a particular object of the invention is to provide
a fixing device which allows to obtain a stable connection of the escutcheon plate
while allowing to easily remove it if required.
[0006] Another object of the present invention is to provide a device for fixing the escutcheon
plate of handles and the like which, by virtue of its peculiar constructive characteristics,
is capable of giving the greatest assurances of reliability and safety in use.
[0007] A further object of the present invention is to provide a device for fixing the escutcheon
plate of handles and the like which can be easily obtained starting from commonly
commercially available elements and materials and is furthermore competitive from
a merely economic point of view.
[0008] With these and other objects in view, there is provided, in accordance with the invention,
a device for fixing the escutcheon plate of handles and the like, characterized in
that it comprises a sub-plate which defines a cylindrical tang which supports the
handgrip of a handle and which can be accommodated in a through hole defined in an
escutcheon plate, said escutcheon plate having, at the lateral portion of its lower
end, a threaded through hole in which a threaded grub screw can be inserted, said
grub screw abutting against an abutment defined at the lower end of said sub-plate
in order to retain said escutcheon plate in position by means of the engagement of
said through hole against said cylindrical tang and of said grub screw against said
abutment.
[0009] Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become apparent
from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, illustrated
only by way of non-limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
figure 1 is a schematic plan view of the sub-plate;
figure 2 is a sectional exploded view of the device for fixing the escutcheon plate
of handles and the like;
figure 3 is a view of the fixing device in assembled position.
[0010] With reference to the above figures, the device for fixing the escutcheon plate of
handles and the like, according to the invention, comprises a sub-plate, generally
designated by the reference numeral 1, which advantageously has an elongated body
having, at its longitudinal ends, holes 2 in which screws 2a for fixing the sub-plate
to the door can be inserted.
[0011] In a median portion, the sub-plate 1 is provided with a cylindrical tang 3 which
rotatably supports the handgrip 4 of a handle.
[0012] More in detail, the cylindrical tang internally defines a seat 5 in which a gasket
6, arranged around the coupling tang 7 of the handgrip, is arranged.
[0013] A return spring 8 and a retainer plate 9 are furthermore connected to the tang of
the handgrip; said retainer plate is kept in position by means of an elastic ring
10 which is coupled to the tang and retains the square pin 11 for the actuation of
the lock.
[0014] A covering escutcheon plate 20 is applied over the sub-plate 1 and is provided, at
a median portion, with a through hole 21 which is accommodated at the cylindrical
tang 4.
[0015] A threaded through hole 25 is provided at the lateral surface of the lower end of
the escutcheon plate 20, and a grub screw 26 engages therein; said grub screw abuts
against an abutment 30 defined by the lower end of the sub-plate.
[0016] In this manner, the escutcheon plate is retained by virtue of the fact that, by tightening
the grub screw, when said grub screw abuts against the abutment 30, in practice there
is a pulling action on the escutcheon plate which makes the through hole 21 engage
against the cylindrical tang 3, thus firmly fixing the escutcheon plate over the sub-plate.
[0017] With the described arrangement, there are no unaesthetic visible front screws, and
support of the handle is furthermore not entrusted to the escutcheon plate but to
the sub-plate, which is directly fixed on the door- or window-frame and the like.
[0018] From what has been described above it can thus be seen that the device according
to the invention achieves the proposed aim and objects and in particular the fact
is stressed that an extremely functional and practical fixing device is provided which
allows to easily and rapidly remove the escutcheon plate simply by acting on the threaded
grub screw 26.
[0019] In practice, the materials employed, so long as they are compatible with the specific
use, as well as the contingent shapes and dimensions, may be any according to the
requirements.
[0020] Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs,
those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility
of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect
on the scope of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
