OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The invention refers to a new use of re-usable contact adhesives to achieve a binding
of documents in a practically instantaneous manner, as well as the obtained folder.
This use of the re-usable contact adhesive allow the obtention of binding folders
only with the application ofo a contact adhesive strip on a bristol board or similar
laminate body.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Up to the present, re-usable contact adhesives, specifically within the stationary
field, are exclusively used for a specific type of adhesive labels and for specific
types of envelopes which permit their being opened for inspection of their contents,
after which the envelope is reclosed.
[0003] The present systems of construction of folders, independently from the mechanical
solutions based on staples, rings, fittings, etc., use heat fusion gums which require
the availability of a machine by means of which the heating of the gum is carried
out, which provokes a series of problems and disadvantages among which may be mentioned
as most important, the slowness of the binding process, since the machine for heating
the gum requires a specific time which is by no means quick. The adquisition of the
machine for carrying out the heating involves cost and consequently, inversion and
maintenance expenses.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0004] The object of the invention is to give the re-usable contact adhesives a new practical
use, based on which binding of documents in a rapid, simple, clean and economical
manner is achieved, without using tools, mechanical elements or heat fusion gums,
being based on the other hand on the disposition of a contact adhesive strip on what
may be considered as the spine of a folder formed by a simple bended bristol board
by a transversal and central line, in such a way that attaching, by means of heating,
a contact adhesive strip on this spine, a folder is obtained which permits the binding
of any type of documents, only with the introduction of these and pressing them against
the strip which is going to constitute the internal surface of the folder spine which
is thus obtained, remaining, these documents, perfectly binded with the possibility
of being freed for other uses, without any type of problems.
[0005] The gum or contact adhesive strip attached on the folder spine offers a smooth and
continuous surface which ensures perfect adhesion of the edges of the sheets or documents
throughout all its length.
[0006] There is no need to say that when reference is made to documents, these will include
sheets, magazines, journals, books, etc., and when mentioning the application of this
gum or adhesive strip on the bended bristol board in order to form the folder, mention
is also being made to any type of bristol board or laminate, bended or even unbended,
since it will only be necessary to put the documents to be bound in contact, through
their corresponding edge, with the said strip, so they remain suitable attached, with
the possibility of being freed as many times as required, constituting, in short,
a cold binding means, since no type of heating is required to achieve the attachment
of the documents, though the application or attachment of the gum or contact adhesive
strip requires a specific heating of the product for its correct attachment to the
bristol board or folder.
[0007] There is no need to say that the said strip may be of reduced width for binding a
minimum number of sheets, or may reach a considerable width for binding numerous documents
or sheets and even form thick volumes.
[0008] The field of applicaiton is very wide, since from the binding of official documents,
both in tribunal courts as in ministries, etc., passing through educational centers,
the manegerial world and even at personl levels, it is possible that the binded or
folder documents by means ot the new use of the re-usable contact adhesives allows
the power of having avialable, after their corresponding independization, of isolated
documents, to be replaced by others, to obtain copies of the same, etc., being able
to be rebinded in the same place, only by placing its corresponding edge in contact
with the gum strip which forms the adherent means.
[0009] The central gum or contact adhesive strip may sometimes be complemented with two
lateral strips as help for a better backing to the first and last sheets, being very
useful, especially in thick volume folders, which, when opened by its center may displace
these sheets at the ends.
[0010] The commercialization of the folders is carried out by means of the protection of
the gum or adhesive strip by means of a siliconed paper to avoid the contact with
other folders or documents, when they are grouped up, in such a manner that at the
moment of use of the folder, said siliconed paper is removed, leaving the actual strip
on which the actual documents are to be attached by adherence, free.
[0011] The possibility also exists of commercializing the product, in other words, the adhesive
or gum strip, already laminated between two silicone papers, with prefixed commercial
widths in order that the user, when removing the siliconed paper protections, adhers
them to the laminate or backing of his preference, the folder remaining thus formed
and ready for binding the sheets or putting them in the folder, when removing the
other siliconed paper protector.
[0012] Finally, it must be said, that it is also possible to include the adhesive or gum
strip in a bristol board part, protected with a silicone paper, leaving the user the
possibility of incorporation or adding the cover sheets or back cover in order to
form the folder.
[0013] By means of the new use of re-usable contact gum or adhesives, it is possible to
file or bind documents in a practically instantaneous manner, bing equally rapid and
clean the freeing of any type of previously bound document and rebinding it as many
times as necessary.
[0014] The self-adhesive material is susceptible to commercialization, applied in a bristol
board backing, cardboard or any other material susceptible of backing the bound paper,
all this in such a way that the said bristol board backing with the self-adhesive
material may be commercialized in strips or piezes of which the user may divide into
sections, parts with desired widths, to obtain a spine for a filing folder. That is
to say, that these independent piezes or parts which are supplied and which the user
may acquire, allow the latter to cut the desired width of strip as willed, in order
to form the spine according to the needs, with which these independent piezes shall
carry continuous microgrooves in order that the user may cut the amount required and
form his folder with the width of spine needed and in any case, shall always be protected
by a siliconed paper to protect the self-adhesive material.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0015] In order to complete the description being expounded, and with the object of helping
to achieve a better comprehension of the characteristics of the invention, this present
descriptive report is enclosed, as an integrated part of the same, with a set of drawings
in which the following has been represented with illustrative and non-limitative character:
Figure 1. Represents a practical application of a contact adhesive or gum strip, suitably
attached on the transversal zone of a bristol board with two folding lines which are
marginal to the actual adhesive strip, forming in general, a bound folder of sheets
or documetns which are attached independently over the said transversal adhesive strip.
Figure 2 represents a cross seccional view of a folder with the adhesive strip attached
in correspondance with the internal surface of the respective spine and including
a series of bound sheets in said folder by a simple attachment of the edge corresponding
to the surface of the adhesive strip.
Figure 3 represents independent pieces which may be commercialized for purchase by
the user and from here, obtain, by means of cuts at the desired width, of the parts
of spine required, observing how those parts are microgrooved in order to possibilitate
the desired width of that section, and the strip or assembly equipped with siliconed
protection paper.
Figure 4 represents a bristol board formed by a cover sheet and back cover ana on
the same is applied a backing part of bristol board to form a spine which is considered
as the width.
Figure 5 finally represents, the same cover sheet and back sheet of the previous figure
with the already attached spine, forming what may be considered as a filing folder
of considerable thickness.
PREFERED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0016] As may be seen from the figures, the new use of re-usable contact adhesives consists
in the application of a contact adhesive or gum strip (1) over the central and transversal
zone of a bristol board (2), marginally affected on the lateral sides of said transversla
strip (1), of a pair of bending lines (3), delimiting in between the same, a spine
so that the bending, through the said bending lines shall determine in general, what
may be considered as a folder according to figure 2, in such a way that the adhesive
strip (1) shall be attached by means of heat application so it remains suitably stabilized,
making possible that over the same may be attached, through its borders, a plurality
of sheets or documents (4), with the possibility of detachment and use as may times
as desired, by which, in its assembly, is determined, a binding means for any type
of documents with the cold adhesion strength, that is to say, without requiring heating
means for acheiving that said sheets or documents (4) remain attached to the adhesive
stip (1), as convencionally required.
[0017] Undoubtedly, strip (1) offers a smooth and continuous surface which ensures a perfect
adhesion of the edge of the sheets (4), throughout all its length.
[0018] If the folder is foreseen to bind a great number of sheets, that is to say, that
the power of the binding permits it to be a thick binding, then, the strip (1) may
be completed with various strips, in lateral direction to the same, colaborating with
the same, in better supporting the first and last sheets.
[0019] Likewise, the strip (1) may be attached in correspondence with the marginal zone
of a bristol board, so that the user may be the one to apply the desired cover sheet.
[0020] In any case, the commercialization of the folders formed by the bristol board or
cover sheets (2) with the strip (1), shall include a siliconed paper band, which shall
protect said adhesive coat or strip (1), removing the said laiminate the moment when
use is going to be made of the folder. Similarly, the strip may be comercialized by
itself, protected with a pair of siliconed paper bands, covering both surfaces and
the user shall be the one to free one of these siliconed bands, apply the band over
a bristol board for the formatiion of the folder, with heat application, removing
the other siliconed band when use is to be made of the folder for binding documents
or sheets.
[0021] As may be seen in the figures, the adhesive may be applied onto a bristol board backing
(5) with parts delimited by the transversal lines (6), the length of which, shall
correspond to the height of a filing folder, said parts (5) being microgrooved so
that the user may cut them to the desired width and thus obtain the spine according
to his requirements. In any case, said band or backing part (5) with the adhesive,
shall be protected with a siliconed paper (7) as has been previously indicated.
[0022] Said band or backing part (5) shall be equipped on its rear side, that is to say,
on the said adherred to the adhesive material folder which is not re-usable, optionally
applied in the form of strips, thus allowing its adhesion to the folder or simply
to the the flaps (9) of the cover sheets and back covers (2).
[0023] Thus, when the user acquires said part (5) and having the cover sheets and back covers
(2) or front sheets as previously indicated, said part (8) may be attached to the
same, which has previously been cut to the desired width, the same being situated
between the slots (9) with which these cover sheets (2) are equipped with to that
effect, as has been represented in figura 5, where the spine is formed by means of
said part (8) intermediated between the cover or front sheets (2) and logically equipped
with the corresponding adhesive.
[0024] A final detail to be considered, consists in that the siliconed paper which protects
the part (8) may be divided in longitudinal bands which allow their detachment from
said part in sections according to the use which is required to be given to the folder,
that is to say, if more or less documents are required to be places in its interior.
1. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, characterized in that it consists
in the attachment of a contact adhesive or gum strip (1) as a cold means of adherence
for a plurality of sheets (4) which shall be attached by adherence, through one of
its edges, to the surface of said gum or adhesive, constituting a binding means for
any type of document.
2. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to claim 1, characterized
in that the contact adhesive or gum strip (1) is previously attached in a permanent
way and in transversal correspondence with the middle zone of a bristol board (2)
or similar material to form a binding folder of documents.
3. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the sheets or documents (4) may be freed and attached as regards
the strip (1) as may times as desired.
4. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the introducing into the folder or binding of the sheets or
documents (4), as well as their freedom and/or rebinding, is carried out instantaneouly,
by the simple pressing of the edge of the sheet or document over the surface of the
adhesive strip (1) or by simple traccion of said sheet or document, respectively.
5. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the contact adhesive or gum strip (1) constitutes the spine
of the corresponding folder which forms the cover sheets (2), or else, the spine of
a folder formed by one single bristol board or laminate on which the corresponding
cover sheet is attached by means of the adherence of the same over said contact adhesive
or gum strip (1).
6. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the contact adhesive or gum strip (1) is, during its commercialization,
protected by means of a siliconed paper band, the same being removable at the moment
of use for the binding of the documents.
7. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the contact adhesive or gum strip is commercialized in bands
or parts (5) affected with microgrooves to help the user cut bands with desired widths
and thus obtain filing folder with wide spines, and the said bands or parts (5) are
completed with the parafined paper laminate (7) for protection of the respesctive
self-adhesive.
8. A new practical use of re-usable contact adhesives, according to the previous claims,
characterized in that the protection siliconed paper of the contact adhesive or gum
strip (1) may be divided into various or multiple longitudinal bands so that a partial
freedom of the number of said bands allows the uncovering of a greater or lesser width
of the binding flap, thus adapting the documents at that moment to the binding
9. The obtained folder, by means of the application to its internal spine, of a re-usable
contact adhesive.
