    Description


    [0001] This invention relates to dispensing mechanisms in particular, but not exclusively, to dispensing mechanisms for dispensing food products such as ice cream or chilled confectionery products usually of semi-solid form.

    [0002] It has been proposed to dispense ice cream from large containers in individual portions by, for example, hand operation using scoops. It has also been proposed to dispense ice cream from machines as by soft serve machines in which the product is mixed, and frozen, or by dispensing machines in which pre-packaged ice cream is delivered from an ice cream container.

    [0003] All these known systems are limited by one or more factors such as expensive machinery, slow rate of dispensing, narrow range of product, deterioration of bulk product not used, consistency of portion control, limited flavour selection etc.

    [0004] A further possibility is the making up of individual portions in a factory and packaging the portions for individual use. Such individual portions cannot be readily employed in certain outlets, such as restaurants or in certain receptacles such as glass or dishes, and the nature of the receptacles in which the individual portions are sold is limited by the cost effectiveness of the packaging receptacle.

    [0005] Documents WO-A-9219389, GB-A-653136, FR-A-823413, US-A-2889949 and DE-A-521761 disclose various dispensing mechanisms.

    [0006] An object of the invention is to provide a dispensing mechanism which overcomes at least some of the above disadvantages and which is flexible, cost effective and meets a gap in the existing market.

    [0007] According to one aspect the invention provides, a method of dispensing a viscous or semi-solid food product, in which the product is introduced into a container base of a container through an inlet opening of said base, sealing the container base inlet opening with a closure member, discharging product from the container through an outlet in the container, the outlet having a smaller cross-section than the container, operating deforming means to deform a deformable part of the closure member towards the base member to cause the deformable part to engage and pressurise the product within the container and to cause the product to be extruded from the container through said outlet, placing the container on a seating during operation of the deforming means the seating supporting the container during the action of the deforming means, and receiving product from the container in a receptacle positioned below said outlet, the container base being nestable with other container bases when empty of product and before assembly with respective closure members.

    [0008] Conveniently the container is sized to receive a predetermined portion which is substantially the same size as the capacity of the receptacle. Alternatively the container is a multi-portion container.

    [0009] Prior to the introduction of product into the container a plurality of containers are nested together, i.e. a container is located one within another. Similarly before assembly of the closure part with the body part, a plurality of closure parts are nested together, or the closure parts are supplied off a roll of such parts.

    [0010] Conveniently the filled, sealed container of product is assembled with the receptacle for storage and transport from the place of filling to the place of dispensing, the receptacle, if present, fitting over the body part of the container.

    [0011] According to another aspect the invention provides a container for use in the method according to the invention comprising a container base having an opening through which the food product is receivable during filling of the product into the container, a closure member for the opening sealingly locatable on the container base, and at least one outlet in the container smaller than the cross section of the container for discharge of product, the container base being of a shape which permits two or more of the container bases to nest together with one another, and the closure member having a deformable portion deformable between one end of the container and the opposite end of the container into the container base whereby upon deforming the closure member the internal volume of the container is reduced and product in the container is extruded through the outlet, the having a seating surface by which the container is releasably supported during extrusion of product.

    [0012] Preferably the container in order to be nestable has a body which is generally cone shaped, generally a truncated cone or pyramid, or generally part spherical. The container conveniently has a flat side surface so that labelling on the closure member or base is visible to show labelling in the desired orientation when the container is stored in display cabinets.

    [0013] Conveniently the outlet is formed in the base member and is at said one end of the container.

    [0014] According to another aspect the invention provides a dispensing apparatus for use in the method according to the invention comprising a container for the product, the container having a container base part with an opening for product and a closure member for said opening and locatable on said base part, the closure member having a portion which is deformable during dispensing, the container having a seating surface, a supporting member defining an abutment on which the seating surface is supportable during dispensing of product, and drive means arranged to engage the closure member to deform said portion of said member and urge it into the base part to reduce the internal volume of the container, the container having at least one outlet, the outlet having a cross-section less than that of the container, and the container being arranged so that, during operation of the drive means to deform the closure member, product within the container is extruded through the outlet from the container.

    [0015] Conveniently the top part is formed with sheet material having undulations which deform to adopt the shape of the internal wall of the base part of the container. The top part may be formed by thermoforming roll or sheet material or by injection moulding.

    [0016] In one arrangement the drive means has a plunger which is shaped to correspond to the internal shape of the walls of the base part of the container so that when the plunger has completed a discharge movement the container is substantially emptied of product with the top part being located adjacent the internal walls of the base part. In the latter position it is preferred that the interior of the container remains sealed except for the outlet.

    [0017] Preferably the base part of the container is of part pyramidal, conical or of generally part spherical shape over its internal wall and the lower surface of the plunger engaging the closure member is of corresponding pyramidal, conical or generally part spherical shape. In this arrangement the closure member is substantially rectangular or circular over its external periphery to engage with the top of the base part. The base part and the closure member may be attached to one another, after admission of product to the container, by welding around the periphery of the closure member, by a clip arrangement, or otherwise.

    [0018] Preferably the plunger is adjustable in its external dimensions whereby, as the plunger moves along the container during a discharge movement, the plunger adjusts to a changing cross-section of the container between said closure member and said base part.

    [0019] The supporting member for the container may be shaped according to the external surface of the base of the container and may include an opening through which product is discharged from the container. Below the supporting member may be located a platform on which a receptacle for the product is locatable to receive product discharged from the container.

    [0020] As an alternative to a reciprocal plunger the receiving member may be reciprocally movable towards and away from a fixed plunger to effect discharge of the container.

    [0021] The container may be releasably associated with a receptacle, such as a cup, which encloses the lower part of the container and is removable therefrom when dispensing of the product is to take place.

    [0022] The receptacle may also be nestable with other receptacles prior to assembly with the container.

    [0023] When the containers are to be employed they are de-nested from one another, filled with product using a predetermined amount of product, the closure member is then sealingly attached to the base part and, if used, the receptacle is mounted on the base part before or after filling with product. Mounting may be by way of a screw threaded, a close fit or other releasable connection.

    [0024] When using a reciprocal plunger the plunger movement may be achieved by a manually operated lever or by a power operated piston and cylinder arrangement driven by pressurised gas, hydraulic fluid, or other drive means. The plunger may be deformable to adapt to the shape of the container as it is operated.

    [0025] The system may include a storage arrangement for charged containers and the storage arrangement may include means for keeping the product at the desired dispensing temperature. It is also possible for the containers to be housed in a storage compartment and presented at the discharge position on the receiving member by conveyor means, such as a carousel arrangement. Alternatively the containers are housed in feed hoppers or feed magazines and are located in the dispensing position by vacuum or other placing means. Otherwise the containers are manually placed in a dispensing position before the mechanism is operated to discharge the product.

    [0026] The discharge outlet or outlets from the container may each take the form of a discharge opening in the base portion of the container when in use and the opening may be shaped to shape the product as it is discharged. The outlet opening is in a closed condition, prior to a dispensing operation, preferably by a removable sealing member. The sealing member may include frangible means opened up by the pressure of the product. The outlet or outlets may be sealingly engageable with a control valve and nozzle arrangement through which the product is discharged.

    [0027] As an alternative to a simple outlet opening a duct or nozzle may project outwardly from the base part prior to a dispensing operation. The outlet duct may be inwardly directed and, upon generating internal pressure at the commencement of a dispensing operation the outlet duct is inverted and an outlet opening or nozzle is formed.

    [0028] Preferably during dispensing of product the plunger is moved in a vertical direction and the container outlet is disposed at the lower end of the container.

    [0030] Referring to the drawings and firstly to Figs. 1-5 a dispensing system is shown which utilises the container shown in Figs. 1-2 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3, utilising the machine shown in Fig. 4.

    [0031] In Fig. 1 is best seen one form of container assembly in an assembled condition. The container assembly, as shown, consists of three parts, a base part 10, a lid part 11, together constituting a container, and a receptacle 12. The base part 10 is a generally hemispherical part 13 at the centre of which is an outlet 22. Towards the upper end of the part 13 the walls are splayed or tapered outwardly terminating in a flange 15. The part 10 is conveniently made from aluminium, injection moulded plastics material or by thermomoulding.

    [0032] To the upper end of the base part 13 is sealingly secured the lid part 11 which is generally circular in shape having an inturned lip 16 formed around its outer periphery, as shown, or a peripheral flange. The lip 16 or flange is arranged to cooperate with the flange 15 to enable the lid part 11 to be sealingly assembled with the body part 10 by the lip 16 engaging over the flange 15 and/or by welding the flange 15 to the lid portion 11.

    [0033] The lid part 11 has a central, circular flat area 17 and between the area 17 and the peripheral edge of the portion 11 are formed undulations or corrugations 18. The lid is formed of material which is deformable, such as plastics material, whereby, as will be explained, the lid may be deformed to the shape of the internal wall of the base part 10. Instead of providing the undulations 18 the lid part 11 may be flat and formed of stretchable material.

    [0034] The container comprising the body part 10 and the lid part 11 is assembled with a receptacle 12, in the nature of a cup, which is releasably assembled to the body part 10, as for example by providing interengageable screw threaded portions (not shown) on the receptacle 12 and the body part 10 or by a press fit. The receptacle extends from adjacent the lip 15 to below the level of the nozzle 14 and may carry on one side a handle 19. At the lower end of the receptacle 12 is formed a base 21 which may be arranged to house a spoon or other eating implement (not shown) and/or ingredients of the food product such as toppings, syrups, etc.

    [0035] Prior to assembly, as shown in Fig. 1, the receptacle 12 may be nested i.e. located one within the other with other receptacles for storage purposes and for presentation to assembly means. Similarly the body part 10 is nestable with other body parts, and the lid part 11 is nestable with other lid parts. The body part 10 is filled with product P by introducing a predetermined amount of product P into the body part 10 which may be by a filling mechanism of known form.

    [0036] After filling, the filled body part is presented to a position in which the lid 11 is sealingly located on the body part 10 and, at the same time, or subsequently the receptacle 12 may be attached to the body part 10. The product may then be cooled and hardened to maintain product quality. The assembly is then ready for storage and for transportation to a site where the product is to be dispensed.

    [0037] If desired the receptacle 12 may be omitted or, at the point of use, the receptacle 12 may be discarded. If the product within the container is to be kept frozen or chilled it is transported and stored in a refrigerated compartment. The container is primarily intended for frozen or chilled confectionery products of a solid or semi-solid nature. However it will be appreciated that other product may be located within the container and dispensed therefrom, particularly when such product is in a solid or semi-solid form but also if the product is of a creamy consistency or is liquid, and if the product is to be dispensed hot.

    [0038] The outlet 22 is in a sealed condition prior to a dispensing operation. A closure member 23 may be employed, covering the base of the container, which is adhered around the opening 22 and is removed prior to a dispensing operation by peeling off the member 23, or otherwise. Alternatively, or in addition, the outlet 22 may be formed with frangible means integral with the portion 10 whereby upon commencement of a dispensing operation the frangible means breaks open and permits the closure member to be displaced to an open condition. Thus for example, with reference to Fig. 1B, the closure member 23 may be formed with a series of radial weakened portions 24 so that upon applying a dispensing pressure to the product within the body part 10 the weakened portions 24 break open thereby creating an outlet for the product. As a further alternative the outlet 22 may be formed as an outlet nozzle. In this case the outlet nozzle may, prior to a discharge operation, extend into the body part 10 as shown at 14A in Fig. 1A. Upon the product within the body part 10 becoming under pressure the nozzle 14A is pushed outwards and turns inside out, at the same time being opened to create an outlet opening 22. For this purpose the nozzle 14A may be formed with frangible means such as described in relation to Fig. 1B.

    [0039] Referring now particularly to Fig. 3 the product container 10, 11 is disassembled from the receptacle 12 for a dispensing operation. The part 13 is seated on a receiving member 25 with the opening 22 directed towards an opening 26 formed in the receiving member 25. The receiving member 25 is rigidly mounted on a dispensing machine, as shown in Fig. 4, and is positioned above a platform 27 on which the receptacle 12 or other receiving means is located.

    [0040] The receiving member 25 is positioned below a plunger 29 which is reciprocally movable towards and away from the member 25. The plunger 29 is carried on the lower end of a rod 30 and the lower surface of the plunger 29 has a generally hemispherical shape corresponding to the shape of the lower part of the body part 10. The plunger 29 is shaped to be admitted to the body part 10 upon a downward movement which is a dispensing movement of the plunger 29.

    [0041] Over an initial part of the downward movement of the plunger 29 the hemispherical surface of the plunger engages the lid part 11 and begins to deform the lid part downwardly. As the plunger moves and the lid part 11 deforms, product within the container body part 10 is put under pressure and is thereby caused to discharge from the outlet 22. The outlet 22 is opened manually by removal of the closure member 23 or automatically upon pressure building on the frangible means. Product issues from the opening 22 into the receptacle 12 during continued downward movement of the plunger 29. During said downward movement the lid part 11 continues to deform as indicated in Fig. 3 until, at the completion of a downward movement of the plunger 29, the plunger and lid part lies adjacent the inner surface of the body part 10 and the product is substantially wholly discharged through the outlet 22 from the container.

    [0042] After full discharge of product the plunger 29 is moved upwards to its start position, the body part 10 is removed from the receiving member 25 and discarded. During the discharge operation the lid part 11 remains secured to the body part 10 and sealed thereto so that product cannot leave the body part 10 except through the outlet 14.

    [0043] After a discharge of product has been achieved, the receptacle 12 may be removed from the platform 27 for consumption of product. The operation of the dispensing mechanism can then be repeated for a further container, or, in the case of a multi- portion container, by continued discharge of the existing container.

    [0044] As will be seen from Fig. 4 the plunger 29, receiving member 25 and platform 27 are vertically spaced one above the other on a housing 32. The housing 32 has a storage compartment 34 in which containers to be dispensed may be located at a suitable temperature provided by, for example, refrigeration means (not shown). The housing 32 may also contain a power source for operating the plunger 29.

    [0045] The plunger 29 may be reciprocally movable by power means 33 which may take the form of a gas or hydraulically powered piston and cylinder arrangement or other drive means. In the case of a gas powered piston and cylinder the gas may be from a pneumatic motor or from a gas cylinder.

    [0046] As an alternative to a power operated plunger 29 the plunger may be manually movable by a lever mechanism (see Fig. 11).

    [0047] Although in Fig. 4 only a single dispensing position is shown, it will be appreciated that multiple dispensing positions may be provided located side by side or on individual units.

    [0048] As an alternative to having a reciprocal plunger 29 a static plunger element 29 may be provided and the receiving member 25 may be mounted to be reciprocal towards and away from the plunger member 29. In the latter arrangement the receiving member may be mounted on an arm extending outwardly from the housing 22, the means for reciprocally moving the member 25 being housed within the housing 32.

    [0049] As thus far described the dispensing operation is manually operated, that is the individual containers are placed manually on the receiving surface 25 to be dispensed. Alternatively the containers may be located within the housing 32 and a plurality of containers located on a conveyor mechanism such as shown at 35 in Fig. 5. In this arrangement a carousel is provided which is rotatable about a central axis in increments so that after each incremental movement a container is presented to the receiving member 25 for a dispensing operation. In this way the dispensing system can be utilised in a self serve, for example coin-operated, arrangement whereby the user inserts a coin to obtain the presentation of a container in the dispensing position. Moreover the containers, whilst within the housing 32, can be maintained at the desired temperature. It will be appreciated that other arrangements can be made for presenting the containers to a dispensing position.

    [0050] In the system described it will be appreciated that the containers will generally comprise a single portion of product to be dispensed. More than one portion may be dispensed into a single receptacle. Alternatively the dispensing operation may be interrupted to provide two or more portions from each container, i.e. multi-portion dispensing. By the provision of more than one dispensing position different products from different containers can be dispensed successively into one receptacle.

    [0051] It will also be appreciated that the receptacle can be of the user's choice, for example a plate, a cone, a bowl or a dish as an alternative to the receptacle 12 illustrated and as an alternative to cones or other edible receptacles.

    [0052] Although there is described and shown a container having a generally hemispherical shape the container body 10 may take other forms. For example a container body may be tapered inwardly and of circular, square or rectangular section, see for example Figs. 6-8. However in order to obtain discharge of product from the container part 10 the plunger 29 should be correspondingly shaped and the lid part 11 must be shaped to fit around the upper end of the body part 10.

    [0053] Referring now to Figs. 6-11 an alternative form of container and dispensing mechanism is shown. In Figs. 6-11 the same reference numbers are used for parts which are equivalent to parts of the embodiment of Figs. 1-5.

    [0054] The container in Figs. 6-8 is formed of a body part 10 which is of part cone shape or truncated cone shape; it has side walls 13 which taper inwardly towards a circular base 20. At the centre of the base 20 is provided an outlet 22 which is formed as an opening in the wall of the base 20 and the opening has a star shape defined by inward projections 20A from the outer edge of the opening which serve to shape product discharged through the opening.

    [0055] The outlet opening 22 is sealed prior to use by a closure member 28 which is adhered to the base 20 around the opening 22 and has a tab 28A. To unseal the opening 22 the member 28 may be peeled off using the tab 28A or the pressure of product on the member 28 at the commencement of a dispensing operation causes the closure member 28 to be released from the base 20. In the latter case the tab 28A may be adhered to the part 10 and extend outwardly of the side wall.

    [0056] The container has a lid part 11 of similar form to that of Figs. 1-5. The receptacle 12 is also of similar form to that of the preceding embodiment and is sized to be a close fit over the body part 10 so that it is secured to the body part 10. As already explained the container shape may be different from those illustrated and may be elliptical, square or rectangular in cross-section with a correspondingly shaped lid part 11. In each case the body part is tapered towards its lower end to be nestable with other body parts with the parts fitting inside one another to reduce storage requirements.

    [0057] Figs. 9 and 10 show a dispensing mechanism for use with the container of Figs. 6-8. As with the preceding embodiment of Figs. 1-5 a reciprocal plunger 29 is employed but in the present case the plunger is able to adapt its shape to conform to the tapering cross-section of the container as the plunger progresses down the container during a dispensing operation.

    [0058] The plunger 29 of Figs. 9 and 10 is carried on a piston and cylinder 33 having a piston rod 30 which is secured to a plunger plate 40 which is circular and formed with a peripheral slot 41 extending circumferentially of the plate 40. The slot 41 receives the lower ends of four adjustable plunger members 42 which extend upwards from the slot 41 in alignment with the internal side walls of the body part 10 of the container.

    [0059] The members 42 are spaced circumferentially from one another around the plate 40 a distance Y when the plunger is in its uppermost position and, as the plunger is urged downwards, the members 42 move radially inwards and into the slot 41 until the members 42 are closely adjacent one another in the lowermost position of the plunger 29. Each of the members 42 is formed with pins 44 which extend towards and engage in a corresponding opening in an adjacent member thereby serving to locate and guide the members 42 in relation to one another during movement of the plunger.

    [0060] Further guidance for the members 42 is provided by fixed slide members 45 mounted on a framework 46 and directed downwards in sliding contact with an internal wall of each of the members 42. The slide members 45 are aligned with the plunger members 42 to ensure that the members remain in their outer position as the plunger moves downwards in which outer position the members 42 are adjacent the inner surface of the inclined wall of the container body 10. The slide members 45 are omitted from Fig. 10 for clarity. The plunger plate 40 may be of rectangular shape especially if the plunger is rectangular for rectangular containers.

    [0061] If desired the plunger assembly may be enclosed within a resilient membrane, sleeve, or sock (not shown) which is capable of urging the members 42 towards the operative position of Figs. 9 and 10 and constraining the assembly against outward movement.
    The membrane also acts to maintain hygienic conditions and may be washable.

    [0062] It will be appreciated that as the plunger 29 moves downwards in a discharge movement the lower face of the plunger plate 40 engages the top of the lid part 11 of the container over its central area 17. The lower ends of the plunger members 42 engage the outer area of the lid part 11 so that the plunger deforms the lid part as the plunger descends. Upon progressive movement of the plunger 29 downwards the deformation of the lid part 11 continues, as at 29', and the plunger members 42 move radially inwards to accommodate the progressively reduced cross-section of the container body 10. As the plunger 29 approaches the base 20 of the container body 10, as at 29'', the plunger parts 42 become fully retracted into the slots 41 in the plunger plate 40 and the plate 40 substantially fully occupies the cross-section of the part 10.

    [0063] In this position the lid part 11 is fully deformed so that it lines the internal walls of the body 10 and the product is substantially fully discharged through the outlet 22.

    [0064] During the discharge operation the container body part 10 is supported by support members 25 in which the container has been located. The receptacle 12 is located under the outlet 22 to receive the product P as it is discharged and the product in the receptacle 12 is shaped by the outlet shape.     Claims

    1. A method of dispensing a viscous or semi-solid food product, in which the product is introduced into a container base (10) of a container through an inlet opening of said base, sealing the container base inlet opening with a closure member (11), discharging product from the container through an outlet (22) in the container, the outlet having a smaller cross-section than the container, operating deforming means (29, 30) to deform a deformable part (17, 18) of the closure member (11) towards the base member (10) to cause the deformable part to engage and pressurise the product within the container and to cause the product to be extruded from the container through said outlet (22), placing the container on a seating during operation of the deforming means the seating supporting the container during the action of the deforming means, and receiving product from the container in a receptacle (12) positioned below said outlet (22), the container base (10) being nestable with other container bases when empty of product and before assembly with respective closure members.
     
    2. A method according to claim 1 wherein the container (10, 11) is sized to receive a predetermined portion of product which is substantially the same size as the capacity of the receptacle (12).
     
    3. A method according to claim 1 or 2 wherein, prior to the introduction of product into the container base (10), a plurality of closure members (11) are nested together.
     
    4. A method according to any one of the preceding claims wherein a filled, sealed container (10, 11) is assembled with said receptacle (12) for storage and transport from the place of filling to the place of dispensing, the receptacle fitting over the container base.
     
    5. A container for use in the method according to claim 1 comprising a container base (10) having an opening through which the food product is receivable during filling of the product into the container, a closure member (11) for the opening sealingly locatable on the container base, and at least one outlet (22) in the container smaller than the cross section of the container for discharge of product, the container base being of a shape which permits two or more of the container bases to nest together with one another, and the closure member (11) having a deformable portion (17, 18) deformable between one end of the container and the opposite end of the container into the container base (10) whereby upon deforming the closure member the internal volume of the container is reduced and product in the container is extruded through the outlet (22), the having a seating surface by which the container is releasably supported during extrusion of product.
     
    6. A container according to claim 5 wherein the container base (10) has a body which has a generally cone shaped, a truncated cone or pyramid, or part spherical portion.
     
    7. A container according to claim 5 or 6 wherein the base part (10) retains its initial configuration during extrusion of product and defines said seating surface.
     
    8. A container according to claim 5, 6 or 7 wherein the central part of the deformable portion (17, 18) inverts from an outwardly directed shape to an inwardly directed shape during deformation of said portion.
     
    9. A container according to any one of claims 5-7 wherein the closure member (11) is formed with a central area (17, 18) of sheet material which is a deformable portion which deforms to adopt the shape of the internal wall of the base part (10) of the container.
     
    10. A container according to any one of claims 5-8 wherein the closure member (11) has at least one inwardly and outwardly directed portion (18) bounding the central area (17).
     
    11. A container according to any one of claims 5-10 wherein the base part (10) and the closure member (11) of the container are sealingly attached to one another, after admission of product to the base, by inter-engagement of the edges (15, 16) of the closure member (11) and the base part (10).
     
    12. A container according to any one of claims 6-11 associated with a receptacle (12) removably securable to the base part and for receiving product from the outlet (22) during dispensing.
     
    13. A container according to any one of claims 6-12 wherein the outlet (22) from the container is in the form of a discharge opening (22) in the container base (16) having releasable closure means (23).
     
    14. A container according to any one of claims 6-13 wherein the closure member (11) is of a shape which permits two or more of the closure members to nest together with one another.
     
    15. Dispensing apparatus for use in the method according to claim 1 comprising a container for the product, the container having a container base part (10) with an opening for product and a closure member (11) for said opening and locatable on said base part (10), the closure member (11) having a portion (17) which is deformable during dispensing, the container having a seating surface, a supporting member (25) defining an abutment on which the seating surface is supportable during dispensing of product, and drive means (29, 30) arranged to engage the closure member (11) to deform said portion of said member (11) and urge it into the base part (10) to reduce the internal volume of the container, the container having at least one outlet (22), the outlet (22) having a cross-section less than that of the container, and the container being arranged so that, during operation of the drive means (29, 30) to deform the closure member (11), product within the container is extruded through the outlet (22) from the container.
     
    16. Dispensing apparatus according to claim 15 wherein the container base part (10) is of a shape which permits two or more of the base parts to be nested together with one inside the other when separated from the closure member (11).
     
    17. Dispensing apparatus according to claims 15 or 16 wherein the closure member (11) is of a shape which permits two or more of the closure members (11) to be nested together one inside the other when separate from the base part (10).
     
    18. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of the claims 15, 16 or 17 wherein the drive means includes a plunger (29) which is shaped to correspond to the internal shape of the walls of the base part (10) of the container so that when the plunger has completed a discharge movement the container is substantially emptied of product with the closure member (11) being located adjacent the internal walls of the base part.
     
    19. Dispensing apparatus according to any one claims 15-18 wherein the lower surface of the drive means (29) engaging the closure member (11) is of part conical, part spherical or part pyramidal shape.
     
    20. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-19 wherein the drive means includes a plunger (29) which is adjustable in its external dimensions whereby, as the plunger moves along the container during its discharge movement, the plunger adjusts to a changing cross-section of the base part (10).
     
    21. Dispensing apparatus according to claim 20 wherein the plunger (29, 30) is formed of interconnected parts which are arranged to move and adjust inwardly and towards one another during said discharge movement.
     
    22. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-21 wherein the supporting member (25) is shaped according to the external surface of the container base (10) and includes an opening (26) through which product is discharged from the container outlet (22).
     
    23. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-22 wherein the drive means (50-56) includes a plunger (29) driven by a manually operated lever (51) or a power operated piston and cylinder.
     
    24. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-22 wherein drive means (75, 76, 77, 79) comprises a manifold (75) pressurisable and having a portion (77) moveable under pressure to engage the deformable portion (17) of the container.
     
    25. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-24 comprising a storage arrangement (36) for charged containers, the storage arrangement including refrigeration means for maintaining the product at a desired temperature.
     
    26. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-25 comprising a conveyor arrangement (35) for conveying containers from a storage compartment (32) to a discharge position at the receiving member (25).
     
    27. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-26 comprising heating means whereby the container of product is heated by microwave power prior to dispensing.
     
    28. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15-27 wherein the outlet (22) is formed to shape the product extruded therethrough.
     
    29. Dispensing apparatus according to any one claims 15-28 wherein the outlet (22) is formed as a opening in a wall of the base part (10).
     
    30. Dispensing apparatus according to any one of claims 15 - 29 wherein the outlet is sealingly engageable with a control valve and nozzle arrangement through which product is discharged.
     


    Ansprüche

    1. Verfahren zum Ausgeben eines viskosen oder halbfesten Lebensmittelprodukts, bei dem das Produkt durch eine Einlaßöffnung eines Behälterunterteils (10) eines Behälters in das genannte Unterteil eingeführt wird, Verschließen der Einlaßöffnung des Behälterunterteils mit einem Verschlußelement (11), Ausgeben von Produkt aus dem Behälter durch einen Auslaß (22) im Behälter, wobei der Auslaß einen kleineren Querschnitt hat als der Behälter, Betätigen von Verformungsmitteln (29, 30) zum Verformen eines verformbaren Abschnitts (17, 18) des Verschlußelements (11) auf das Unterteil (10) zu, um zu bewirken, daß der verformbare Abschnitt am Produkt im Behälter anliegt und es unter Druck setzt, und um zu bewirken, daß das Produkt durch den genannten Auslaß (22) aus dem Behälter ausgepreßt wird, während des Betätigens der Verformungsmittel Stellen des Behälters auf eine Sitzfläche, wobei die Sitzfläche den Behälter während der Bewegung der Verformungsmittel stützt, und Aufnehmen von Produkt aus dem Behälter in ein unter dem genannten Auslaß (22) angeordnetes Behältnis (12), wobei das Behälterunterteil (10) mit anderen Behälterunterteilen ineinandergesteckt angeordnet werden kann, wenn es geleert worden ist, und vor dem Anbringen der betreffenden Verschlußelemente.
     
    2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, bei dem der Behälter (10, 11) größenmäßig zum Aufnehmen eines vorbestimmten Produktteils ausgeführt ist, der im wesentlichen die gleiche Größe hat wie das Fassungsvermögen des Behältnisses (12).
     
    3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, bei dem vor dem Einführen des Produkts in das Behälterunterteil (10) eine Mehrzahl von Verschlußelementen (11) ineinandergesteckt werden.
     
    4. Verfahren nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, bei dem ein gefüllter, verschlossener Behälter (10, 11) mit dem genannten Behältnis (12) zusammen zum Lagern und Transportieren vom Abfüllort zum Ausgabeort angeordnet wird, wobei das Behältnis über das Behälterunterteil paßt.
     
    5. Behälter zur Verwendung im Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, der folgendes umfaßt: ein Behälterunterteil (10) mit einer Öffnung, durch welche das Lebensmittelprodukt während des Einfüllens des Produkts in den Behälter aufnehmbar ist, ein Verschlußelement (11) für die Öffnung, das dicht schließend auf dem Behälterunterteil anzuordnen ist, und mindestens einen Auslaß (22) in dem Behälter, der kleiner ist als der Querschnitt des Behälters, zum Ausgeben von Produkt, wobei das Behälterunterteil eine Form hat, die das Ineinanderstecken von zwei oder mehreren Behälterunterteilen zuläßt, und das Verschlußelement (11) einen verformbaren Abschnitt (17, 18) hat, das zwischen einem Ende des Behälters und dem entgegengesetzten Ende des Behälters in das Behälterunterteil (10) verformbar ist, wodurch das Innenvolumen des Behälters beim Verformen des Verschlußelements verringert und Produkt im Behälter durch den Auslaß (22) ausgepreßt wird, wobei [lacuna] eine Sitzfläche hat, von welcher der Behälter während des Auspressens des Produkts lösbar gestützt wird.
     
    6. Behälter nach Anspruch 5, bei dem das Behälterunterteil (10) einen Körper hat, der einen im allgemeinen kegelförmigen, kegelstumpfartigen oder pyramidenförmigen oder teilweise kugelförmigen Abschnitt hat.
     
    7. Behälter nach Anspruch 5 oder 6, bei dem das Behälterunterteil (10) während des Auspressens des Produkts seine anfängliche Konfiguration behält und die genannte Sitzfläche definiert.
     
    8. Behälter nach Anspruch 5, 6 oder 7, bei dem sich der zentrale Teil des verformbaren Abschnitts (17, 18) während des Verformens des genannten Abschnitts von einer nach außen gerichteten Form in eine nach innen gerichteten Form umkehrt.
     
    9. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 5 - 7, bei dem das Verschlußelement (11) mit einem zentralen Bereich (17, 18) aus Folienmaterial ausgeführt ist, das ein verformbarer Abschnitt ist, der sich verformend an die Form der Innenwand des Behälterunterteils (10) anpaßt.
     
    10. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 5 - 8, bei dem das Verschlußelement (11) mindestens einen, den zentralen Bereich (17) begrenzenden, nach innen und außen gerichteten Abschnitt (18) hat.
     
    11. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 5 - 10, bei dem das Unterteil (10) und das Verschlußelement (11) des Behälters nach Einlassen des Produkts in das Unterteil durch Ineinandergreifen der Ränder (15, 16) des Verschlußelements (11) und des Unterteils (10) dicht schließend aneinander angebracht werden.
     
    12. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 6 - 11, dem ein Behältnis (12) zugeordnet ist, das sich abnehmbar am Unterteil befestigen läßt und während des Ausgebens zum Aufnehmen von Produkt aus dem Auslaß (22) dient.
     
    13. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 6 - 12, bei dem der Auslaß (22) vom Behälter die Form einer Ausgabeöffnung (22) im Behälterunterteil (16) hat, die lösbare Verschlußmittel (23) hat.
     
    14. Behälter nach einem der Ansprüche 6 - 13, bei dem das Verschlußelement (11) eine Form hat, die es zuläßt, daß zwei oder mehrere der Verschlußelemente zusammengesteckt werden.
     
    15. Ausgabevorrichtung zur Verwendung in dem Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, die folgendes umfaßt: einen Behälter für das Produkt, wobei der Behälter ein Behälterunterteil (10) mit einer Öffnung für das Produkt und ein auf dem genannten Unterteil (10) anzuordnendes Verschlußelement (11) für die genannte Öffnung hat, wobei das Verschlußelement (11) einen Abschnitt (17) hat, der während des Ausgebens verformbar ist, wobei der Behälter eine Sitzfläche, wobei ein Stützelement (25), das ein Widerlager definiert, auf dem die Sitzfläche während des Produktausgebens abstützbar ist, und eine zum Eingriff mit dem Verschlußelement (11) angeordnete Antriebseinrichtung (29, 30) hat, um den genannten Abschnitt des genannten Elements (11) zu verformen und ihn in das Unterteil (10) zu drücken, um das Innenvolumen des Behälters zu verringern, wobei der Behälter mindestens einen Auslaß (22) hat, wobei der Auslaß (22) einen kleineren Querschnitt als der Behälter hat, und der Behälter so angeordnet ist, daß Produkt im Behälter während des Betriebs der Antriebseinrichtung (29, 30) zum Verformen des Verschlußelements (11) durch den Auslaß (22) aus dem Behälter ausgepreßt wird.
     
    16. Ausgabevorrichtung nach Anspruch 15, bei der der Behälterunterteil (10) eine Form hat, die das Ineinanderstecken von zwei oder mehreren Behälterunterteilen zuläßt, wobei sich jeweils eines in einem anderen befindet, wenn sie vom Verschlußelement (11) getrennt sind.
     
    17. Ausgabevorrichtung nach Anspruch 15 oder 16, bei der das Verschlußelement (11) eine Form hat, die das Ineinanderstecken von zwei oder mehreren Verschlußelementen (11) zuläßt, wobei sich jeweils eines in einem anderen befindet, wenn sie vom Unterteil (10) getrennt sind.
     
    18. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15, 16 oder 17, bei der die Antriebseinrichtung einen Kolben (29) aufweist, der entsprechend der inneren Form der Wände des Behälterunterteils (10) geformt ist, so daß das Produkt, wenn der Kolben eine Entleerungsbewegung beendet hat, im wesentlichen aus dem Behälter entleert worden ist, wobei sich das Verschlußelement (11) an die Innenwände des Unterteils angrenzend befindet.
     
    19. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 18, bei der die in Eingriff mit dem Verschlußelement (11) stehende untere Oberfläche der Antriebseinrichtung (29) teilweise kegelförmig, teilweise kugelförmig oder teilweise pyramidenförmig ist.
     
    20. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 19, bei der die Antriebseinrichtung einen Kolben (29) aufweist, dessen Außenabmessungen verstellbar sind, wodurch sich der Kolben, wenn er sich während seiner Entleerungsbewegung am Behälter entlang bewegt, auf einen sich verändernden Querschnitt des Unterteils (10) einstellt.
     
    21. Ausgabevorrichtung nach Anspruch 20, bei der der Kolben (29, 30) aus miteinander verbundenen Teilen geformt ist, die angeordnet sind, um sich während der genannten Entleerungsbewegung nach innen und aufeinander zu zu bewegen und zu verstellen.
     
    22. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 21, bei der das Stützelement (25) der Außenfläche des Behälterunterteils (10) entsprechend geformt ist und eine Öffnung (26) hat, durch welche das Produkt aus dem Behälterauslaß (22) ausgegeben wird.
     
    23. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 22, bei der die Antriebseinrichtung (50 - 56) einen Kolben (29) aufweist, der von einem von Hand betätigten Hebel (51) oder einem elektrisch betätigten Kolben-Zylinder angetrieben wird.
     
    24. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 22, bei der die Antriebseinrichtung (75, 76, 77, 79) einen Verteiler (75) umfaßt, der druckbeaufschlagbar ist und einen Abschnitt (77) hat, welcher unter Druck bewegbar ist, um mit dem verformbaren Abschnitt (17) des Behälters in Eingriff zu kommen.
     
    25. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 24, die eine Lageranordnung (36) für befüllte Behälter umfaßt, wobei die Lageranordnung Kühleinrichtungen aufweist, um das Produkt auf einer gewünschten Temperatur zu halten.
     
    26. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 25, die eine Fördereranordnung (35) zum Befördern der Behälter aus einem Lagerraum (32) zu einer Entleerungsposition am Aufnahmeelement (25) umfaßt.
     
    27. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 26, die Heizeinrichtungen umfaßt, wodurch der Behälter mit Produkt vor dem Ausgeben durch Mikrowellenenergie erhitzt wird.
     
    28. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 27, bei der der Auslaß (22) geformt ist, um das dadurch ausgepreßte Produkt zu formen.
     
    29. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 28, bei der der Auslaß (22) als eine Öffnung in einer Wand des Unterteils (10) geformt ist.
     
    30. Ausgabevorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 15 - 29, bei der der Auslaß dicht schließend mit einer Steuerventil- und Düsenanordnung in Eingriff bringbar ist, durch welche das Produkt ausgegeben wird.
     


    Revendications

    1. Procédé de distribution d'un produit alimentaire visqueux ou semi-solide, dans lequel on introduit le produit dans la base (10) d'un récipient à travers une ouverture d'entrée de ladite base, on ferme de manière étanche l'ouverture d'entrée de la base du récipient à l'aide d'un élément de fermeture (11), on évacue le produit du récipient via une sortie (22) pratiquée dans le récipient, la sortie possédant une section transversale inférieure à celle du récipient, on actionne un moyen de déformation (29, 30) pour déformer une partie déformable (17, 18) de l'élément de fermeture (11) en direction de l'élément de base (10) pour faire en sorte que la partie déformable vienne se mettre en contact avec le produit dans le récipient tout en le mettant sous pression et pour provoquer l'extrusion du produit hors du récipient à travers ladite sortie (22), on place le récipient sur un siège au cours de la mise en service du moyen de déformation, le siège supportant le récipient au cours de la mise en service du moyen de déformation, et on récupère le produit du récipient dans un réceptacle (12) positionné en dessous de ladite sortie (22), la base (10) du récipient étant à même de s'emboîter avec d'autres bases de récipients lorsqu'ils ont été vidés de leur produit et avant l'assemblage avec des éléments de fermeture respectifs.
     
    2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel le récipient (10, 11) est dimensionné pour recevoir une portion prédéterminée de produit dont la dimension correspond essentiellement à la capacité du réceptacle (12).
     
    3. Procédé selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel, avant l'introduction du produit dans la base (10) du récipient, plusieurs éléments de fermeture (11) sont emboîtés l'un dans l'autre.
     
    4. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel un récipient rempli (10, 11) et fermé de manière étanche est assemblé avec ledit réceptacle (12) à des fins de stockage et de transport depuis le lieu de remplissage jusqu'au lieu de distribution, le réceptacle venant se disposer exactement par-dessus la base du récipient.
     
    5. Récipient à utiliser dans le procédé selon la revendication 1, comprenant une base de récipient (10) comportant une ouverture à travers laquelle le produit alimentaire peut passer au cours du remplissage du récipient à l'aide du produit, un élément de fermeture (11) destiné à l'ouverture apte à venir se disposer de manière étanche sur la base du récipient, et au moins une sortie (22) pratiquée dans le récipient, dont la section transversale est inférieure à celle du récipient, destinée à évacuer le produit, la configuration de la base du récipient permettant d'emboîter l'une dans l'autre deux bases de récipients ou plus, et l'élément de fermeture (11) possédant une portion (17, 18) apte à se déformer, entre une première extrémité du récipient et l'extrémité opposée du récipient, pour épouser la forme de la base (10) du récipient, par lequel, suite à la déformation de l'élément de fermeture, le volume interne du récipient se réduit et le produit présent dans le récipient est extrudé à travers l'ouverture (22), le [lacuna] comportant une surface de siège servant à supporter le récipient de manière amovible au cours de l'extrusion du produit.
     
    6. Récipient selon la revendication 5, dans lequel la base (10) du récipient possède un corps comportant une portion généralement conique, tronconique ou pyramidale ou encore une portion partiellement sphérique.
     
    7. Récipient selon la revendication 5 ou 6, dans lequel la partie de base (10) conserve sa configuration initiale au cours de l'extrusion du produit et définit ladite surface de siège.
     
    8. Récipient selon la revendication 5, 6 ou 7, dans lequel la partie centrale de la portion déformable (17, 18) s'inverse en passant d'une forme orientée vers l'extérieur à une forme orientée vers l'intérieur au cours de la déformation de ladite portion.
     
    9. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 5 à 7, dans lequel l'élément de fermeture (11) comprend une zone centrale (17, 18) réalisée en une matière en feuille qui représente une portion déformable qui se déforme pour épouser la forme de la paroi interne de la partie de base (10) du récipient.
     
    10. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 5 à 8, dans lequel l'élément de fermeture (11) possède au moins une portion (18) orientée vers l'intérieur et vers l'extérieur, délimitant la zone centrale (17).
     
    11. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 5 à 10, dans lequel la partie de base (10) et l'élément de fermeture (11) du récipient sont fixés l'un à l'autre de manière étanche, après admission du produit à la base, par engrènement mutuel des bords (15, 16) de l'élément de fermeture (11) et de la partie de base (10).
     
    12. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 6 à 11, associé à un réceptacle (12) qui peut être fixé de manière amovible à la partie de base et dans lequel vient se loger le produit provenant de la sortie (22) lors de la distribution.
     
    13. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 6 à 12, dans lequel la sortie (22) en provenance du récipient a la forme d'une ouverture d'évacuation (22) pratiquée dans la base (16) du récipient possédant un moyen de fermeture amovible (23).
     
    14. Récipient selon l'une quelconque des revendications 6 à 13, dans lequel la forme de l'élément de fermeture (11) permet d'emboîter l'un dans l'autre deux éléments de fermeture ou plus.
     
    15. Appareil de distribution à utiliser dans le procédé selon la revendication 1, comprenant un récipient pour le produit, le récipient possédant une partie de base de récipient (10) munie d'une ouverture destinée au produit et un élément de fermeture (11) destiné à ladite ouverture et apte à venir se disposer sur ladite partie de base (10), l'élément de fermeture (11) comportant une portion (17) qui est apte à se déformer lors de la distribution, le récipient comportant une surface de siège, un élément de support (25) définissant une butée apte à supporter la surface de siège au cours de la distribution du produit, et un moyen d'entraînement (29, 30) arrangé pour venir se mettre en contact avec l'élément de fermeture (11) pour déformer ladite portion dudit élément (11) et le presser dans la partie de base (10) pour réduire le volume interne du récipient, le récipient comportant au moins une sortie (22), la section transversale de la sortie (22) étant inférieure à celle du récipient, et le récipient étant arrangé de telle sorte que, lors de la mise en service du moyen d'entraînement (29, 30) pour déformer l'élément de fermeture (11), le produit à l'intérieur du récipient est extrudé du récipient en passant par la sortie (22).
     
    16. Appareil de distribution selon la revendication 15, dans lequel la configuration de la partie de base (10) du récipient permet d'emboîter l'une dans l'autre deux parties de base ou plus lorsqu'elles sont séparées de l'élément de fermeture (11).
     
    17. Appareil de distribution selon la revendication 15 ou 16, dans lequel la configuration de l'élément de fermeture (11) permet d'emboîter l'un dans l'autre deux éléments de fermeture (11) ou plus lorsqu'ils sont séparés de la partie de base (10).
     
    18. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15, 16 ou 17, dans lequel le moyen d'entraînement englobe un piston-plongeur (29) dont la configuration correspond à la configuration interne des parois de la partie de base (10) du récipient, si bien que, dès que le mouvement d'évacuation du piston-plongeur est arrivé à son terme, le récipient est essentiellement vidé du produit, l'élément de fermeture (11) étant situé en position adjacente aux parois internes de la partie de base.
     
    19. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 18, dans lequel la surface inférieure du moyen d'entraînement (29) venant se mettre en contact avec l'élément de fermeture (11) possède une configuration partiellement conique, partiellement sphérique ou partiellement pyramidale.
     
    20. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 19, dans lequel le moyen d'entraînement englobe un piston-plongeur (29) dont la dimension externe est réglable, par lequel, lorsque le piston-plongeur se déplace le long du récipient au cours de son mouvement d'évacuation, le piston-plongeur s'adapte à une section transversale variable de la partie de base (10).
     
    21. Appareil de distribution selon la revendication 20, dans lequel le piston-plongeur (29, 30) est formé de parties connectées entre elles qui sont arrangées pour subir un déplacement et un réglage vers l'intérieur, et en direction l'une de l'autre au cours dudit mouvement d'évacuation.
     
    22. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 21, dans lequel l'élément de support (25) possède une configuration qui épouse celle de la surface externe de la base (10) du récipient et englobe une ouverture (26) à travers laquelle du produit est évacué via la sortie (22) du récipient.
     
    23. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 22, dans lequel le moyen d'entraînement (50-56) englobe un piston-plongeur (29) entraîné par un levier (51) actionné manuellement ou par un piston-cylindre commandé par un moteur.
     
    24. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 22, dans lequel le moyen d'entraînement (75, 76, 77, 79) comprend un collecteur (75) qui peut être mis sous pression et comportant une portion (77) mobile sous l'action de la pression pour venir se mettre en contact avec la portion déformable (17) du récipient.
     
    25. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 24, comprenant un arrangement de stockage (36) pour des récipients chargés, l'arrangement de stockage englobant un moyen de réfrigération pour maintenir le produit à une température désirée.
     
    26. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 25, comprenant un arrangement de transporteur (35) pour transporter des récipients depuis un compartiment de stockage (32) jusqu'à une position de décharge où est situé l'élément de réception (25).
     
    27. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 26, comprenant un moyen de chauffage par lequel on chauffe le récipient destiné au produit via une énergie à hyperfréquences avant de procéder à la distribution.
     
    28. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 27, dans lequel la forme de la sortie (22) est conçue pour configurer le produit extrudé à travers cette dernière.
     
    29. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 28, dans lequel la sortie (22) est réalisée sous forme d'une ouverture pratiquée dans une paroi de la partie de base (10).
     
    30. Appareil de distribution selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 29, dans lequel la sortie vient se mettre en contact étanche avec un arrangement d'injecteur et de soupape de commande à travers lequel le produit est évacué.
