    Description

    [0001] The invention relates to a hinge, consisting of a first and a second hinge part, which hinge parts are connected to each other by hinge means in such a way that they swing about an axis of rotation, and which hinge parts can be fixed by means of fixing means on, for example, a door, on the one hand, and on or to, for example, a casing part, window frame or door jamb, on the other hand.

    [0002] Such hinges are generally known. The hinge means generally consist of a pin or the like which is rotatably mounted in a tube or bush. The tube in this case is composed of tubular parts lying in line with each other, and each fixed to one of the two hinge parts. A major disadvantage of this type of hinge is that the pin is relatively easy to remove, following which the window or the door can be lifted out of the frame or the door jamb. Additional measures therefore have to be taken to prevent burglary.

    [0003] In another type of hinge the hinge means consist of two tubular parts and a pin, one half of said pin being fixed in one of the two tubular parts, and the other half of said pin projecting freely outwards. The hinge also consists of two hinge parts, to which the tubular parts are fixed. The second half of the pin can be inserted into the other tubular part. With this hinge a door or window can be hingedly attached to the door jamb or the window frame, the hinge pin being completely covered by the tubular parts, so that the pin cannot easily be removed from the tube. However, it is relatively simple to detach the two hinge parts from each other. Additional measures have to be taken in order to prevent this. Moreover, the hinge part in the case of which the tubular part extends along the top half of the axis of rotation must always be fitted on the opening part, such as a door or window. For lefthand hung doors and windows, it is therefore necessary to use a different hinge from that used for right-hand hung doors or windows.

    [0004] From WO 93/25790 a hinge is known consisting of a first and a second hinge part, which hinge parts are connected to each other by hinge means in such a way that they swing about an axis of rotation, and which hinge parts can be fixed by means of fixing means on, for example, a door, on the one hand, and on or to, for example, a casing part, window frame or door jamb, on the other hand, the first hinge part being divided into two parts, a top and a bottom hinge part, which two parts can be fixed by means of fixing means to, for example, a casing part, while both the bottom hinge part and the top hinge part can be hingedly fixed by means of hinge means to the other, second hinge part. The first hinge part is divided in two equal parts and each part is secured with only one screw. If two fixing elements such as screws are used to secure each of the two parts, such as is common practice for the securing of a hinge part, the load moment on the fixing elements of each of the two parts will be high.

    [0005] It is an object of the invention to supply a hinge with a hinge part which has been divided into two parts, which hinge can absorb greater load moments.

    [0006] According to the invention this object is achieved with a hinge according to claim 1. The fixing elements by means of which the top and bottom hinge parts are fixed can consequently be placed far apart, with the result that the fixing elements can absorb a greater load moment.

    [0007] In a preferred embodiment the hinge means consist of two pins or the like and a tubular part, one pin of which is fixed to the top hinge part, while the other pin is fixed to the bottom hinge part of the first, divided hinge part, and the tubular part is fixed to the second hinge part, which is not divided, in which tubular part the ends of the two pin parts of the top and bottom hinge part can be placed. The two pins are then pushed in opposite directions into the tubular part and are subsequently fixed relative to each other by means of the fixing means. The pins are consequently covered, and when the hinge is fitted they can no longer be slid out of the tubular part by third parties.

    [0008] In another possible embodiment the hinge means consist of a first tubular part, which is connected to the top hinge part, and of a second tubular part, which is connected to the bottom hinge part, and of a pin whose ends can be inserted into the tubular parts. In this case the two tubular parts are slid in opposite directions over the ends of the pins, following which the tubular parts are fixed relative to each other. In this preferred embodiment the pin is preferably fixed in or to the tubular part of the hinge part which is not divided. If the pin is properly fitted, this will make it even more difficult for third parties to remove the pin from the tubular parts, in order to be able to remove the door or the window from the frame in this way.

    [0009] The invention will be explained in greater detail with reference to the drawing, in which:

    Figure 1 shows a front view of a hinge in separate parts;

    Figure 2 shows a front view of an assembled hinge according to Figure 1;

    Figure 3 shows a top view of a hinge according to Figures 1 and 2;

    Figure 4 shows a front view of another hinge;

    Figure 5 shows an embodiment of a hinge according to the invention, in front view;

    Figure 6 shows another embodiment of a hinge according to the invention, in front view;

    [0010] Figure 1 shows a front view of a hinge 1 in separate parts. The hinge 1 is composed of two hinge parts, namely a first hinge part 2 and a second hinge part 3. The hinge parts 2, 3 can be fixed to a fixed frame or to an opening part, such as a door or a window. The first hinge part 2 is composed of two hinge parts, namely a top hinge part 4 and a bottom hinge part 5. In the case of the hinge parts 4, 5, at the ends of the edges 6, 7, which run along the axis of rotation after assembly of the hinge, tubular parts 8, 9 are formed from a cylindrically curved extension. The hinge 1 also comprises a pin, which is composed of two pin parts 10, 11. The pin parts 10, 11 are fixed in the two tubular parts 8, 9. The pin parts 10, 11 are welded at their ends 12, 13 to the tubular parts 8, 9, following which the ends 12, 13 are ground flat, so that the pin parts 10, 11 pass in a flat and seamless manner into the tubular parts 8, 9 at these ends 12, 13. The second hinge part 3 comprises at the edge along the axis of rotation a tubular part 14, which has the same diameter as the tubular parts 8 and 9. The hinge parts 4, 5 engage in each other by means of projections 15, which fit into recesses 16. The projections 15 and the recesses 16 are described by a crenellated cutting line 17. The hinge parts 4, 5 slot into each other through the fact that the projections 15 are broader at their end than at their underside and the recesses 16 are correspondingly shaped. Fixing holes 18 with slanting inside edges are provided in the hinge parts 3, 4, 5, by means of which holes the hinge parts 3, 4, 5 can be fixed to the frame or to a door or window with the aid of fixing means.

    [0011] The hinge 1 is fitted as follows. The second hinge part 3 is fixed to a fixed part, such as a frame or door jamb, or to an opening part, such as a door or a window. If the hinge part 3 is fitted on a fixed part, such as a frame, the top hinge part 4 must then be fitted at a corresponding height on the opening part. If the hinge part 3 is fitted on the opening part, the bottom hinge part 5 must then be fitted at a corresponding height on the fixed frame. After fitting of the hinge part 3 and one of the hinge parts 4, 5, a ring 19 is placed over the pin or the pin part 10, 11, said ring having the same diameter as the tubular part 8, 9. The opening part is then suspended from the fixed part by slotting the fitted hinge parts 3, 4, 5 into each other. A ring 19 is also pushed over the pin 10 or 11 of the hinge part 4, 5 not yet fitted. The pin 10, 11 of the not yet fitted hinge part 4, 5 is then pushed into the other end of the tubular part 14. After that, the projection 15 of the hinge part 4, 5 is placed in the recess 16 of the already fitted hinge part 4 or 5, following which the second hinge part 4 or 5 is fixed. The fixing means hold the pin parts 10, 11 at a fixed distance from each other and in this way ensure that the pin parts 10, 11 cannot slide out of the tubular part 14.

    [0012] Figure 2 shows the same hinge as that in Figure 1, in the assembled state. The projections 15 engage in the recesses 16. The pin parts 10, 11 are completely covered by the tubular parts 8, 9, 14 and the rings 19.

    [0013] Figure 3 shows the same hinge 1 in top view. The pin 10 is enclosed by the tubular part 8 and is covered from the top by the seal 12.

    [0014] Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment of a hinge 20. The hinge 20 here also consists of two hinge parts, namely a first hinge part 21 and a second hinge part 22. The first hinge part 21 is divided into two hinge parts, a top hinge part 23 and a bottom hinge part 24. The hinge parts 23, 24 comprise at the ends of the edges 25, 26 facing the axis of rotation a tubular part 27, 28 respectively in the form of a cylindrically curved extension. These tubular parts 27, 28 are both sealed at their ends by an end face seal 29, 30. A pin 32 is fitted in the centre of the edge 31 of the second hinge part 22 adjoining the axis of rotation, in a tubular part 33 which has the same diameter as the tubular parts 27, 28. The pin 32 need not be immovably fixed in the tubular part 33, but can be fitted rotatably or can be loose in the tubular part 33. The free ends 34, 35 of said pin 32 can be pushed into the tubular parts 27, 28 of the hinge parts 23, 24. The tubular parts 27, 28 interacting with each other thus form a tube or bush in which the pin 32 can rotate. Rings 36, 37 are placed between the tubular part 33 of the pin 32 and the tubular parts 27, 28. The hinge parts 22, 23, 24 are provided with fixing holes 38 with slanting inside edges.

    [0015] Figure 5 shows an embodiment of a hinge 47 according to the invention. The hinge 47 consists of a first hinge part 48 and a second hinge part 49. The first hinge part 48 consists of a bottom hinge part 50 with fixing holes 51 and a top hinge part 52 with fixing holes 53. If the first hinge part 48 is fixed to a fixed part, such as a frame, and the second hinge part 49 is fixed to an opening part, such as a window, it is important that the fixing holes 51 should be fitted as far apart as possible, likewise the fixing holes 53, so that the greatest possible reaction moment can be supplied by the connecting elements which are fitted in the fixing holes 51, 53 respectively. For this purpose, in the case of the hinge 47 the first hinge part 48 is divided by means of a diagonal dividing line 54. This makes it possible for the fixing holes 51 and also the fixing holes 53 to be provided far apart.

    [0016] In Figure 6 the same advantage is achieved in the case of another hinge 55 by dividing a first hinge part 56 by means of a stepped dividing line 57 into a bottom hinge part 58 and a top hinge part 59. The bottom hinge part 58 is subjected to a different turning moment from that of the top hinge part 59. The two hinge parts engage in each other by means of the step-shaped dividing line and can rest upon each other in the loaded state.
