    Description

Fields of use of the invention

[0001] This invention concerns anti-theft book covers/cardboard bindings, etc. for books.

    Prior art

[0002] Anti-theft products and thus books are known within many institutions/shops, such as libraries and book shops. In the prior art, the security mechanism, e.g. magnetic strips, microchips or other known activation mechanisms, is mounted on the inner side of the finished book or on the rear of the cover, and is thus visible.

[0003] Further, the security mechanism is mounted manually on the spine of the book (the finished book), as is known from US Patent Specification 5 225 807.

[0004] From US patent No. 4,141,078 and from DE A 4 226 237 it is known to apply the security mechanism before the book is bound by mounting the security mechanism to the spine formed by the pages of the book, and thereafter mounting the cover such that the security mechanism is covered by the book cover or the cardboard binding.

The technical problem to be solved

[0005] The prior art has some shortcomings in use, since the security mechanism is mounted on the finished book or mounted on the spine formed by the pages or the book before finishing the book. The following deficiencies may be mentioned:
    • The security mechanism is visible, which ruins the finish of the book.
    • The security mechanism is mounted detachably to avoid destroying the finished book. The detachable mounting enables the thief to remove the security mechanism without difficulty, thereby avoiding an alarm when leaving the shop.
    • The security mechanism is according to US patent No. 5,225,807mounted manually, which makes the actual security very costly/expensive.
    • The security mechanism is mounted manually by opening the book (the cover), thereby providing access to the spine of the book where the security mechanism is attached. See Figure 2. US Patent Specification 5 225 807.

The novel art and the technical effect

[0006] Before the book is bound, the security mechanism, e.g. magnetic strips, microchips or other known activation mechanisms, is firmly adhered to the centre of the inner side of the book cover or the cardboard binding so as to hit the spine of the book precisely. The security mechanism is hereby concealed in the spine of the book.

    [0007] This ensures:
    • "Certain security", since the thief has to destroy the book to remove the security mechanism.
    • "Rational/inexpensive security", since the security mechanism may be mounted by machine during or before the binding phase.
    • "Elegant security", since the security mechanism is concealed in the spine of the book, and thus the consumer cannot see the security mechanism.

    List of figures

[0008] Figure 1 shows the prior art anti-theft book, where the security mechanism is adhered to the outer side/inner side of the book cover/cardboard binding.

[0009] Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the new anti-theft book, where the security mechanism is mounted on the inner side of the book cover/cardboard binding, plastics binding, etc.

[0010] Figure 3 shows a book cover (cardboard cover or the like) for a cased book, where the security mechanism is mounted on the inner side of the book cover and is centered/positioned so as to hit the spine of the book in the completion.

[0011] Figure 4 shows a binding (cardboard or the like) for a full-bound book, where the security mechanism is mounted on the inner side of the back of the binding (loose back) and is centered/positioned so as to hit the spine of the book in the completion.

    Claims

    1. A method of binding books provided with a security mechanism, characterized by firmly adhering a security mechanism to the centre of the inner side of the book cover or the cardboard binding before the book is bound so as to hit the spine of the book precisely so that the security mechanism is hereby concealed in the spine of the book.

    2. A method according to claim 1, characterized by mounting the security mechanism before the binding phase.

    3. A method according to claim 1, characterized by mounting the security mechanism during the binding phase.

    4. A book cover/cardboard binding to be used in the method according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized by having a security mechanism mounted centrally on the internal back of the book cover/cardboard binding/plastics binding, etc.

    5. A book cover/cardboard binding according to claim 4, characterized in that the security mechanism is a magnetic strip, a microchip or the like.

    Ansprüche
