Description

Field of the invention

[0001] -The present invention relates to a system for the connection at right angles between two metal sections by means of a joint, particularly indicated for producing frames of door/window frames.

Prior art

[0002] -At the present time, in the technical sector of door/window frames, such as armour-plated doors and/or armour-plated windows, in producing the relative frames, to obtain the integral connection between two sections disposed at right angles, provision is made to cut the joining ends or heads of the two sections with a cutting angle equal to 45° with respect to the respective longitudinal axes, so as then to bring the said two cuts close together disposing the sections at 90* with respect to each other and, then, to fix the said two sections in position, by means of a joint, which is disposed and concealed behind the angle formed by the said two sections brought close together in this way.

[0003] -This technique has a number of disadvantages.

[0004] -A first disadvantage is due to the fact that it is difficult to cut the said sections to the right length and perfectly at 45° so that, following the said assembly, even the smallest of errors generate an opening in proximity to the join of the heads which is sometimes too open or too closed, such as an opening which is excessively wide or which presents interference, with the consequent need to dismantle the assembly in order to perform costly and laborious operations intended to adjust the said heads cut at 45° in order to install them.

Objects of the invention

[0005] -The object of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages.

[0006] -The invention, which is characterized by the claims, solves the problem of creating a system for the connection at right angles between two sections by means of a joint particularly indicated for producing frames of door/window frames,

Summary of the Invention

[0007] -The present invention therefore relates to a system for the connection at right angles between a first and a second section both extending respectively along their axes by means of a connection joint, particularly indicated for producing frames of door/window frames, in which the said sections have an external face intended to form the so-called case of the frame of the door, in which the said system is characterized in that the said first section has a portion for connection which has a first head with striking faces disposed in a normal plane with respect to a first section-axis of longitudinal extension of the said first section; in that the said second section has a portion for connection which has a second head with striking faces disposed in a normal plane with respect to a second section-axis of longitudinal extension of the said second section; in that the said joint has a first central portion, a first extension extending along a first joint-axis, a second extension extending along a second joint-axis; in which the said joint-axes are disposed at 90° with respect to each other; in that the said first extension has an "L"-shaped cross-section with respect to its axis of extension; in that the said second extension has an "L"-shaped cross-section with respect to its axis of extension; in that the central portion in association with the first extension has a first step intended to form a first flat striking face disposed in a normal plane with respect to the first joint-axis; in that the central portion in association with the second extension has a second step intended to form a second flat striking face disposed in a normal plane with respect to the second joint-axis; in that in order to obtain connection provision is made to dispose the first head with striking faces of the first section against the first flat striking face presented by the joint and to fix reciprocally by means of fixing means; in that in order to obtain connection provision is made to dispose the second head with striking faces of the second section against the second flat striking face of the joint and to fix reciprocally by means of fixing means.

[0008] -The following results are obtained by using a system of this type: it is easier and quicker to cut the metal sections, there is no joining opening between the two sections and so there is no requirement for operations to adjust the opening, the connection between the said sections is easier to make.

[0009] -The advantages obtained by means of the present invention essentially consist of the fact that the implementation costs for obtaining the connection between the sections to produce frames for door/window frames are reduced.

Brief description of the drawings

[0010] -Further features and advantages of the present invention will emerge more clearly from the detailed description which follows of a preferred embodiment thereof, given purely by way of non-exhaustive example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the system according to the present invention;
  • Fig. 1A is an enlarged perspective view of the dished holes towards the inside of the section;
  • Figs. 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D and 2E respectively are a front view, a view from the left, from the right, from the bottom and from the top of the joint used in the system to which the present invention relates;
  • Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the system according to the present invention after assembly.

[0011] -With reference to Fig. 1 the system to which the present invention relates provides a first section 1, a second section 2, a monolithic connection joint 3, and a plurality of fixing elements 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, in the specific case countersunk screws.

[0012] -The first section 1 extends along a first section-axis X1, has a cross-section having an open polygonal configuration with rounded corners and, its end portion 1a, used for connection, has a striking head 5 which has been obtained by cutting the original bar with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to the longitudinal axis X1, in which the said head 5 has a segmented profile with striking faces 5a-5b-5c-5d-5e-5f. -Furthermore, for reasons which will emerge below, the said first section 1 has a thickness "S1", two dished holes 6a and 6b towards the inside of the section and, see Fig. 3, an external-frontal face 1a and an external-jamb face 1b.

[0013] -The second section 2 extends along a second section-axis Y1, has a cross-section having an open polygonal configuration with rounded corners and, its end portion 2a, used for connection, has a striking head 7 which has been obtained by cutting the original bar with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to the longitudinal axis Y1, in which the said head 7 has a segmented profile with striking faces 7a-7b-7c-7d-7e-7f. -Furthermore, for reasons which will emerge below, the said second section 2 has a thickness "S2", two dished holes 9a and 9b towards the inside of the section and, see Fig. 3, an external-frontal face 2a and an external-jamb face 2b.

[0014] -With reference to the connection joint 3, briefly, see also Figs. 2A-2B-2C-2D-2E, this is constituted by a monolithic body which has a central portion 10, a first extension 11 extending along a first joint-axis X2 and having an "L"-shaped cross-section, and a second extension 12 extending along a second joint-axis Y2 and having an "L"-shaped cross-section, in which the said axes X2 and Y2 are disposed at 90° with respect to each other.

[0015] -More particularly, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below, see also Fig. 3, in the said joint 3 the central portion 10 has a front face 10a which forms a portion of the front case of the frame of the armour-plated door, the first extension 11 has a front face 11a disposed in a parallel plane with respect to the said front face 10a and a face 11b disposed at an angle with respect to the said front face 11a, and the second extension 12 has a front face 12a disposed in a parallel plane with respect to the said front face 10a and a face 12b disposed at an angle with respect to the said front face 12a, in which the said front face 10a is painted and/or surface treated.

[0016] -The central portion 10, in association with the first extension 11, has a step intended to form a first flat striking face of "C" shape, formed by the segments 13a-13b-13c, having height H1, disposed in a normal plane with respect to the first joint-axis X2 in which the same first extension 11, of "L"-shaped cross-section, has the external faces 11a and 11b of the said "L" having a profile such as to engage longitudinally and couple inside and against the internal faces of the connection portion 1a of the first section 1, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below.

[0017] -The same central portion 10, in association with the second extension 12, has a second step intended to form a second flat striking face of "C" shape, formed by the segments 14a-14b-14c, having height H2, disposed in a normal plane with respect to the first joint-axis Y2 in which the same second extension 12, of "L"-shaped cross-section, has the external faces 12a and 12b of the said "L" having a profile such as to engage longitudinally and couple inside and against the internal faces of the connection portion 2a of the second section 2, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below.

[0018] -The first striking face 13a-13b-13c and the second striking face 14a-14b-14c lie on two planes disposed at 90° with respect to each other.

[0019] -With reference to the first extension 11, in proximity to its end portion, on the internal face 11b it has a pair of threaded holes 15a and 15b, which are disposed inside two channels 16a and 16b extending longitudinally with respect to the axis X2, so as to permit perfect adherence between the external face 11b of the said extension 11 and the internal face of the section 1, as will be more comprehensible below.

[0020] -With reference to the second extension 12, in proximity to its end portion, on the internal face 12b it has a pair of threaded holes 17a and 17b, which are disposed inside two channels 18a and 18b extending longitudinally with respect to the axis Y2, so as to permit perfect adherence between the external face 12a of the said extension 12 and the internal face of the section 2, as will be more comprehensible below.

[0021] -With reference also to Fig. 3, after having easily cut the original bars of the sections with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to respective longitudinal extension axes X1 and Y1, the fitter takes steps to engage the extension 11 inside the portion 1a of the section 1, sliding and/or disposing the tips of the dished holes 6a and 6b inside the channels 16a and 16b presented by the extension 11, as far as disposing the head 5, and more particularly the striking faces 5a-5b-5c, against the striking planes 13a-13b-13c presented by the joint 3, so as then to insert and screw in the screws 4a and 4b obtaining a stable connection between the said section 1 and the joint 3. -In this way a perfect adherence of the external faces 11a and 11b of the "L"-shaped extension 11 against the internal faces of the section 1 is obtained.

[0022] -Then, the said fitter takes steps to engage the extension 12 inside the portion 2a of the section 2, sliding and/or disposing the tips of the dished holes 9a and 9b inside the channels 18a and 18b presented by the extension 12, as far as disposing the head 7, and more particularly the striking faces 7a-7b-7c, against the striking planes 14a-14b-14c presented by the joint 3, so as then to insert and screw in the screws 4c and 4d, obtaining a stable connection between the said section 2 and the joint 3. -In this way a perfect adherence of the external faces 12a and 12b of the "L"-shaped extension 12 against the internal faces of the section 2 is obtained.

[0023] -When the above-mentioned simple and easy operations have been carried out, a stable right-angled connection is obtained between the two sections 1 and 2 by means of the joint 3, producing a strong and robust frame for a door/window frame such as an armour-plated door or an armour-plated window, in which the said frame may be fixed in known manner to the relative counter-frame and/or to the wall.

[0024] -With reference to the frame thus produced, it is appropriate to point out that if the thickness S1 of the striking faces 5a-5b-5c of the first section 1 is equal to the height H1 of the striking faces 13a-13b-13c of the joint 3, the front face 1a of the first section 1 will be coplanar with respect to the front face 10a of the joint 10 and, similarly, if the thickness S2 of the striking faces 7a-7b-7c of the second section 2 is equal to the height H2 of the striking faces 14a-14b-14c of the joint 3, the front face 2a of the second section 2 will be coplanar with respect to the front face 10a of the joint 10.

[0025] -Furthermore, the countersunk screws 4a-4b-4c-4d, as well as other fixing means which may be used as equivalents, are disposed inside the slots of the dished holes 6a, 6b, 9a, 9b produced on the faces 1b and 2b of the sections 1 and 2 which form the frame of the door/window frame, allowing a correct opening and closing of the door which will then be assembled.

[0026] -By means of the present system it will be clear that the above-mentioned problems have been solved, because it is not necessary to proceed to cut the sections with an angle equal to 45°, because an opening between the two sections 1-2 does not form and because the operations to adjust the said opening to 45° are not required.

[0027] -The description of the system for the connection at right angles between two metal sections by means of a joint, particularly indicated for producing frames of armour-plated door/window frames, is given purely by way of non-exhaustive example and therefore it is evident that all those modifications or variants suggested by practice and the utilization or employment thereof may be introduced to the said system and still come within the scope of the claims which follow.
