[0001] The present patent application for industrial invention relates to an upright used
to obtain partition walls of the type composed of a male semi-upright and a female
semi-upright, which is laterally provided with housings for coupling of fixing means
for shelves, cabinets and other similar items.
[0002] The uprights of the invention are designed to be used to build partition walls for
interiors in which the sheets of glass or panels of any material are supported by
the said uprights.
[0003] In the design of partition walls for interiors more and more attention is paid to
the aesthetics of all the components that form the partition wall, of which all mechanical
and physical properties, such as strength, rigidity, thermal and sound insulation,
must be guaranteed.
[0004] Uprights composed of two modular elements, a male semi-upright and a female semi-upright,
which are interfaced and permanently coupled by means of connection means, are currently
available on the market.
[0005] Each semi-upright comprises a central body from which two identical longitudinal
edges laying on the same vertical plane branch off from opposite sides.
[0006] In view of the above, the upright obtained by permanently coupling the two semi-uprights
is provided on each side with a couple of longitudinal edges that define a longitudinal
groove in which the covering panels of the partition walls are inserted and fixed.
[0007] The said uprights are impaired by the fact that they are not provided with fixing
points or housings for coupling devices used to hold cabinets, which cannot be anchored
to the upright, and must be necessarily fixed to the said covering panels, which are
more and more often represented by sheets of glass with variable transparency.
[0008] This means that the covering panels must be provided with holes or slots to insert
screws or brackets used to support shelves, drawers, cabinets in general, thus impairing
the clean line of the said panels, whose surface integrity and continuity are inevitably
interrupted and impaired by the presence of the said holes or slots or covering plugs.
[0009] WO2005/019552 discloses an upright for building system having a double T shape. Said upright is
not suitable to support a partition wall, such as a glass panel.
[0010] DE 201 12 300 and DE29702724 disclose a pair of semi-uprights to support a glazing. Said uprights are not suitable
to hold cabinets, shelves, drawers and like.
[0011] The purpose of the present invention is to devise an upright for partition walls,
which is provided with housings for means used to fix or support shelves, drawers
or other similar items.
[0012] Another purpose of the present invention is to devise an upright with the aforementioned
characteristics, in which the said coupling or fixing means are fixed in their housings
at any height from the ground, without having to drill holes or modify the pre-assembled
upright.
[0013] An additional purpose of the present invention is to provide an upright with the
aforementioned characteristics, which is formed of two semi-uprights that are interfaced
and coupled together.
[0014] These and other purposes have been achieved with the upright of the invention, whose
main characteristics are illustrated in the first claim.
[0015] The upright of the invention has a double-T section and is preferably composed of
two semi-uprights designed to be fixed one against the other; the male semi-upright
has a T-shaped section, and the female upright has a section identical to the horizontal
wing of the T of the male semi-upright, in such a way that the upright of the invention,
which is obtained by combining two of the said semi-uprights, has a double-T section,
as mentioned above.
[0016] The vertical wing of the male semi-upright is designed to be engaged in the centre
of the female semi-upright where it is fixed by means of suitable anchoring means.
[0017] Both the female semi-upright and the horizontal wing of the male semi-upright are
provided with two lateral pairs of parallel edges, two on the right and two on the
left, extending for the entire length of the semi-upright.
[0018] Each pair of lateral edges comprises an external edge that faces the outside of the
upright, and an internal edge that faces the inside of the upright.
[0019] In view of the above, the internal edges of the female semi-upright and the internal
edges of the male semi-upright cooperate together to define a longitudinal channel
both on the right and on the left side of the upright, the said channel being designed
to receive and support the covering panels of the partition wall.
[0020] The longitudinal groove formed by each lateral pair of parallel edges is used to
house and hold the means used to fix or support shelves, drawers and other similar
items.
[0021] For major clarity the description of the upright according to the present invention
continues with reference to the enclosed drawings, which are intended for purposes
of illustration only and not in a limiting sense, whereby:
- figure 1 is a transversal section of the upright of the invention;
- figure 2 is a transversal section of the female semi-upright;
- figure 3 is a transversal section of the male semi-upright;

[0022] With reference to figure 1, the upright (M) of the invention has a double-T section
and is composed of two semi-uprights (1 and 2), a male upright (1) and a female upright
(2).
[0023] With reference to figures 2 and 3, the male semi-upright (1) has a T-shaped section,
which comprises a vertical wing or element (300) and a horizontal wing (100), and
the female semi-upright (2) is composed of a wing (200) with section specularly identical
to the horizontal wing (100) of the male semi-upright (1).
[0024] With reference to figure 1, the external side (LE) of the semi-uprights (1 and 2)
is the side designed to face outwards when the upright (M) is mounted in working position,
and the internal side (LI) is the side facing the covering panels (P) that are designed
to be positioned on the right side (FD) and the left side (FS) of the upright (M).
[0025] With reference to figure 3, the male semi-upright (1) has a central rectilinear body
(101) provided at the two ends with two identical opposite C-shaped housings (102)
with concavity towards the sides, the right side (FD) and the left side (FS); the
C-shaped housings (102) are the transversal section of the longitudinal grooves that
run along the sides (FD and FS) of the male semi-upright (1).
[0026] Each C-shaped housing (102) is bordered by a pair of edges (103 and 104), an external
edge (103) and an internal edge (104), which are provided on the borders with corresponding
teeth (103a and 104a) protruding in specularly opposite position towards the inside
of the C-shaped housing (102).
[0027] The external border (101 a) of the central rectilinear body (101) is aligned with
the external border of the two external edges (103) of the two C-shaped housings,
while the pair of internal edges (104) protrudes from the internal border (101 b)
of the central rectilinear body (101).
[0028] A pair of identical rims (105) is obtained externally on the internal edges (104)
in parallel position perpendicular to the edge (104), provided at the ends with a
pair of specular perpendicular opposite teeth (105).
[0029] The pair of rims (105) form a groove (106) in which the seal of the panels (P) is
inserted and fitted.
[0030] With reference to fig. 2, the female semi-upright (2) has a central rectilinear body
(201) that is provided at the two ends with two identical opposite C-shaped housings
(202) with concavity towards the sides, the right side (FD) and the left side (FS);
the C-shaped housings are the transversal section of longitudinal grooves that run
along the sides (FD and FS) of the female semi-upright (2).
[0031] Each C-shaped housing (202) is bordered by a pair of edges (203 and 204), an external
edge (203) and an internal edge (204), which are provided on their borders with corresponding
teeth (203a and 204a) protruding in specularly opposite position towards the inside
of the C-shaped housing (202).
[0032] The external border (201 a) of the central rectilinear body (201) is aligned with
the external border of the two external edges (203) of the two C-shaped housings,
while the pair of internal edges (204) protrude from the internal border (201 b) of
the central rectilinear body (201).
[0033] A pair of identical rims (205) is obtained externally on the internal edges (204)
in parallel position perpendicular to the edge (204), provided at the ends with a
pair of specular perpendicular opposite teeth (205).
[0034] The pair of rims (205) form a groove (206) in which the seal of the panels (P) is
inserted and fitted.
[0035] The vertical wing (300) of the male semi-upright is designed to be engaged in the
centre and on the internal border (201 b) of the female semi-upright (2), as shown
in fig. 1.
[0036] The vertical wing (300) is fixed to the centre of the female semi-upright (2) by
means of ordinary fixing means, preferably screws.
[0037] The screws are inserted into a series of first through holes obtained on the central
section of the female semi-upright (2) and engaged inside second threaded holes obtained
- along the same axis as the first holes - on the vertical wing (300) of the male
semi-upright (1).
[0038] The housings (202) can be used as housings and fixing points for the means used to
support elements such as cabinets, shelves, drawers in general.
