(54) Image reading device, image forming apparatus, and image reading method


(57) The present invention relates to an image reading device comprising a light source (2), a white reference board that is used for shading correction (11), a reading unit (12) that reads an original while the original moves on an original platen, a detecting unit (32, 91) that detects whether an original is set on the original platen, an acquiring unit (92) that causes to move, upon the detecting unit detecting setting of the original on the original platen, the light source up to a position of the white reference board and acquires shading correction data by reading the white reference board, a determining unit (91) that determines, upon receiving an original reading start request, whether to execute acquisition of the shading correction data again by using the acquiring unit, before reading a first original, and a shading correcting unit (46) that carries out, upon the determining unit determining to execute acquisition of the shading correction data again by using the acquiring unit before reading the first original, the shading correction by using the acquired shading correction data, and carries out, upon determining not to execute, the shading correction by using the shading correction data that is acquired by using the acquiring unit at the time of detecting setting of the original.
