[0001] The present invention relates to a cash register comprising a cover on its body.
[0002] In the cash registers in the state of the art, at least one paper roll is positioned
in the body of the register in order for it to fulfill its function of issuing slips
of sale. When the paper is finished, a new paper roll should be inserted into the
machine. For this reason, there is a cover for inserting or displacing the paper roll
in cash registers.
[0003] In the USA patent document No.
US20060165467, in the state of the art, the opening-closing mechanism of a printer cover is defined.
In the said invention, when the opening button on the cover is depressed, the mechanism
located in the body of the printer operates and the cover is opened.
[0004] The USA patent document No.
US5137385, another application in the state of the art, discloses a cover opening-closing mechanism
comprised of a plurality of pieces. The opening-closing mechanism is positioned in
the printer's body. The said mechanism comprises unlock levers, springs and various
ribs that enable locking.
[0005] EP 1559563 discloses a cash register according to the preamble of claim 1. The objective of
the present invention is to realize a cash register whose cover can be opened and
closed in a practical way.
[0006] In the cash register which is realized to fulfill the objective of the present invention
and defined in Claim 1 and in its dependent claims, the main elements required for
the cover to open and close practically are positioned on the cover. The auxiliary
elements are provided on the body of the cash register. An additional piece is not
incorporated to the body of the cash register for the auxiliary elements; only the
form of the body is changed.
[0007] In the inventive cash register, the cover comprises a button for performing the function
of opening the cover, a roller for outputting the paper in the chamber and a stopper
to limit the rotation movement of the button. The roller is fastened to the cover
with the holders provided at the moveable end of the cover. The roller has a cylindrical
form and two ends of the roller are comprised of cylinders which are narrower than
the middle section of the roller. The cylinder lugs formed by the end parts of the
roller which are thinner, ensure fastening of the cover in closed position.
[0008] The body comprises a chamber, and a slot and pressing element for the cover to maintain
its closed position when the cover is closed onto the body. The cover is mounted to
the body via two pins provided on the body. The cover can rotate around the axis formed
by the said pins. The chamber has side walls.
[0009] The button comprises pins, a key and two legs. The button is mounted to the cover
with two pins and thus can move around an axis. Ends of the legs are in contact with
- the walls of the chamber when the cover is closed. The legs are designed to be angular
to be compatible with the wall, in order to be able to move on the angular walls of
the chamber and to rise towards the cover. The button moves when the user depresses
the key. The button moves around the pin's axis and towards the inside of the chamber.
[0010] When the user depresses the key to open the cover, the button starts to rotate towards
the chamber. In the meantime, the legs, which are in contact with the corners of the
side walls of the chamber, advance upon being supported by the side walls and rise
towards the cover. When the user exerts enough pressure on the key, force of the pressure
element on the roller is renewed, and the ends of the roller come out of the slots.
Rotation angle of the key is determined by the position of the stopper. The stopper
is located under the cover, at the place where the legs extend towards the key of
the button. When the key rotates and the part where the legs conjoin with the cover
abuts the stopper, the button stops and the ends of the roller come out from their
slots. Thus, the cover opens by rotating to the opposite direction of the rotation
of the button.
[0011] With the inventive cash register, the user is enabled to open the cover without any
difficulty and to easily displace and insert the paper roll located under the cover.
[0012] The cash register realized to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated

open.
[0019] Figure 7 is the side view of the inventive cash register when the cover is open.
[0020] Figure 8 is the view of the inventive cash register's cover separated from the button.
[0021] The components shown in the figures are numbered as follows:
[0031] 10. Pressing element
[0037] The cash register (1) comprises a body (3) and a cover (2) located on the body (3).
[0038] The cover (2) comprises a roller (4) having lugs on both ends thereof, at least one
holder (5) holding the roller (4), a moveable button (6), at least one stopper (7)
that limits the movement of the button (6), holes (8, 108) provided on the side surfaces
of the cover (2) enabling mounting of the button (6) to the cover (2) and the cover
(2) to the body (3).
[0039] The body (3) comprises two slots (9) for the lugs on two ends of the roller (4) to
fit into, at least one pressing element (10) which applies pressure on the roller
(4) in order to prevent the lugs of the roller (4) to come out of the slots (9), and
a chamber (11) in which a paper (K) roll is placed.
[0040] The chamber (11) comprises side walls (12), and two pins (115) which enable mounting
of the cover (2) from one of its ends to the chamber (11) and which are positioned
on a fixed axis (E) and fit into the holes (8).
[0041] The button (6) comprises a key (13) which enables opening of the cover (2) when the
user presses thereon, two legs (14) which are located below the key (13) and which
are in contact with the side walls (12) at the right and left of the chamber (11)
when the cover (2) is closed, and two pins (15) positioned around an axis (F), which
fit into the holes (108) and enable the button (6) to be mounted to the cover (2).
[0042] The cover (2) is mounted to one side of the chamber (11) from one end thereof. At
the said end of the cover (2), there are provided two holes (8); one on each side
surface. The pins (115) on the chamber (11) fit into the holes (8) located at the
end of the cover (2). Pins (115) have a cylindrical form. For this reason, the cover
(2) can rotate around the pin's (115) axis (E). However the cover (2) is fastened
to the chamber (11) from this end. The other end of the cover (2) is moveable.
[0043] The cover (2) covers the chamber (11). There is a space (B) in the middle part of
the cover (2). The button (6) is placed in this space (B). When the button (6) is
being placed into the space, the key (13) fills the space (B) on the upper surface
of the cover (2) and forms a contact surface for the user to open the cover. After
the button (6) is placed on the cover (2), the legs (14) remain on the part of the
cover (2) facing the chamber (11) and they extend to the inner part of the chamber
(11). The button (6) comprises pins (15) at its end near the key (13), on two sides
of the key (13), on the right and the left. The pins (15) are cylindrical and are
mounted to the holes (108) on the cover (2). The holes (108) are positioned on the
side surfaces of the region in between the moveable end of the cover (2) and the said
space (B) to allow mounting of the pins (15) to the cover (2). The pins (15) are inserted
into the holes (108) to mount the cover (2) and the button (6). Since the pins (15)
are cylindrical, the button (6) can move by rotating around the pin (15) axis (F).
While the button (6) is rotating around the pin (15) axis (F), the cover (2) rotates
around the fixed pin axis (E). For this reason, the pin (15) axis (F) on the button
(6) is sliding.
[0044] The stopper (7) is positioned on the side of the cover (2) facing the chamber (11)
and near the extension of the leg (14) towards the key (13). When it is pressed on
the key (13), during movement of the button (6), the leg (14) advances towards the
stopper (7) and when the extension of the leg (14) contacts the stopper (7), the button
(6) stops. The stopper (7) limits the rotation of the button (6) around the axis (F).
[0045] The roller (4) is in the form of a cylinder having lugs on both ends thereof. The
roller (4) enables paper (K) to go out of the body (3) from the paper (K) roll within
the chamber (11) when the cover (2) is closed.
[0046] The cover (2) comprises two holders (5) on its moveable end which extend towards
the chamber (11). The holders (5) are in the form of a hook. The roller (4) is fastened
to the cover (2) by fitting the ends of the roller (4) into the holders (5).
[0047] Two slots (9) are positioned on the body (3) on the right and left of the chamber
(11), in alignment with the roller (4). The slots (9) extend from the body (3) towards
the inside of the chamber (11). When the cover (2) is closed, the ends of the roller
(4) fit into the slots (9). There is provided one pressing element (10) on the body
(3) for each slot (9). The pressing elements (10) are positioned at the upper parts
of the slots (9), such that they will be over the ends of the roller (4) which are
located within the slots (9). The pressing elements (10) are a spring or a material
with a certain amount of elasticity. Unless there is an external force such as the
user pressing the key (13), the pressing elements (10) ensure that the ends of the
roller (4) remain in the slots (9) and the cover (2) remains closed.
[0048] The ends of the legs (14) come in alignment with the side walls (12) when the cover
(2) is closed. When the cover (2) is closed, one end of the leg (14) stands on the
side wall (12). When the key (13) is depressed, in order to enable the ends of the
legs (14) to advance on the side walls (12) when the button (6) is rotating, ends
of the legs (14) are made in an inclined form.
[0049] When the cover (2) is closed, a part of the ends of the legs (14) touch the corner
of the side walls (12) of the chamber (11). The two ends of the roller (4) remain
in the slots (9) under the control of the pressing elements (10) (Figure 1, 3). When
the user depresses the key (13), the button (6) starts to rotate around the moveable
axis (F) towards the inside of the chamber (11). During rotation of the button (6),
the legs (14) on the side wall (12) also start to slide towards the cover (2) and
the ends of the legs (14) advance by climbing on the wall (12) (Figure 4, 5). As long
as the user continues to depress the key (13), the legs exert an outward force to
the cover (2). The force which the user applies to the key (13) and which is conveyed
to the roller (4) via the legs (14), exceeds at one point the force applied by the
pressing elements (10) to the roller (4) and the ends of the roller (4) come out from
their slots (9) (Figure 5). Thus, the cover (2) also rotates around the fixed axis
(E) and opens outwardly from the chamber (11) (Figure 6, 7). The button (6) and the
cover z)) rotate to opposite directions relative to each other. This way, the user
can both open the cover (2) and access the paper (K) roll without requiring any additional
process after the cover (2) is opened, by only depressing the key (13).
[0050] The angle of the rotation of the button (6) towards inside of the chamber (11) is
determined by the stoppers (7). The stoppers (7) are disposed within the cover (2)
near the legs (14) and thus further advance of the button (6) into the chamber (11)
during its movement and contacting and damaging the paper (K) in the chamber (11)
is prevented. Additionally, the stoppers (7) prevent swinging of the button (6) when
the cover (2) is open.
[0051] By using limited number of pieces in the invention, production costs of the cash
registers (1) employing covers is reduced. Furthermore, ease of use is provided to
the user by enabling the cover to be opened and closed practically.
