OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The object of the invention herein, as established in the title of the invention,
is an assembly formed by a nestable U-shaped lid and base, forming what is also known
as a display box, which are boxes that are initially used to transport products and
subsequently, on arrival at the distribution point, can be used as a display box after
removing a part of the box.
[0002] The special configuration and design of each of the parts forming the nestable U-shaped
lid and base assembly characterise the invention herein, such that a securely closed
assembly is obtained for transporting the products contained inside the base, and
on the other hand, a display box is easily achieved by removing the nestable U-shaped
lid, without any of the parts that make up the assembly becoming torn, detached or
broken.
[0003] Therefore, this invention is confined to within the scope of the assemblies that
can be used both for transporting and for displaying during sale, by separating a
part of the assembly.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0004] Transport and display packaging, especially for products intended for mass distribution
and consisting of two parts, are widely known in the state of the art.
[0005] One of the parts serves as the base, on which the product contained is placed and
which is
characterised in that it is open at the upper part for convenient access to the product.
[0006] The other of the parts is a lid having an inverted "U" shape, simply covering the
top of the base and rests on the sides.
[0007] This configuration known in the prior art is very convenient since handling the box
only involves removing the U-shaped lid and the base is completely clean cut at all
its edges, without any tears or detaching having been caused, thus providing a clean
look on the shelving.
[0008] However, this configuration separated by the base and lid without any being connected,
is the result of problems, as the assemblies are difficult to handle during transportation,
since the box has to be carried by the bottom, and if the box falls or is not perfectly
positioned, the products contained inside, apart from becoming damaged, may fall out.
In these cases, sealing is necessary, which leads to the loss of the advantages of
having two separate parts, in addition to impeding the advantages of replenishing
and cleaning the base.
[0009] Therefore, it is an object of the invention herein to develop a display assembly
formed by a base and a U-shaped lid that overcomes the drawbacks pointed out, developing
an assembly like the one described below and its essential nature is contained in
the first claim.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0010] It is an object of the invention herein a nestable U-shaped lid and base assembly,
comprising a base having a generally parallelepiped shape, which is open at the front
and upper part, defining an accessible interior space in which the products to be
transported and subsequently displayed for sale are contained.
[0011] It further comprises a U-shaped lid which comprises three sections or parts arranged
one after the other separated by a number of scored lines and can be used, on the
one hand, to cover the open parts of the base, i.e., the front and top part, and on
the other hand, to be fixed on the base.
[0012] The fasteners of the U-shaped lid on the base are removable fasteners and can be
re-fixed without becoming detached or broken at any of the parts.
[0013] The U-shaped lid not only seeks to cover the base but also to protect the products
contained therein from potentially falling out, therefore the lid and the base have
supporting means that cooperate to secure the lid on the base in a removable manner,
i.e. it can be separated and can be recovered, i.e. the lid can be re-attached to
the base, all this without causing any tearing, breaking or detaching between both
parts, ensuring the quality of the container forming the base, which ultimately serves
as a display, is not damaged or affected once it reaches the point of sale due to
breakages, tears or detaching.
[0014] In order to fix the lid on the base, effective means of attachment have been sought,
in which a number of the means will be on the back of the base, while the other fastening
means are on the front of the base, achieving fastening means that ensure that the
lid is fixed to the base.
EXPLANATION OF THE FIGURES
[0015] As a complement of the description being made and for a better understanding of the
features of the invention, according to a preferred example of a practical embodiment
thereof, attached as an integral part of the aforementioned description is a set of
drawings where, for purposes of illustration and in a non-limiting manner, the following
is shown:
In Figure 1, a perspective view of a base can be seen, wherein part of the fastening
means arranged on the back of the base can be seen.
In Figure 2, the front of the base and the part of the fastening means arranged on
the base can be seen.
Figure 3 shows a plan and perspective view of the U-shaped lid with the means arranged
on the lid for fixing on the base.
Figure 4 shows how the fastening means arranged on the back of the assembly work.
Figure 5 shows the front of the box and how the fastening means arranged on the front
of the assembly work and operate together.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0016] In view of the figures, a preferred embodiment of the proposed invention is described
below.
[0017] Figure 1 shows a base (1) which, as noted above, has a generally parallelepiped shape
having an upper part (2) and a front part (3), which are both open, such that after
removing the lid, the products housed inside the base can be easily accessed.
[0018] That part that is open and through which the base can be accessed is what is referred
to as the front part of the base, while the back is the part facing the front.
[0019] It is observed that a possible embodiment of the fastening means between the lid
and the base arranged on the back of the base consists of a foldable flap (5) of a
generally, although non-limiting, square shape that is shaped as a result of three
consecutive cuts (5.1) and a scored line (5.2) through which the flap (5) is folded.
[0020] Figure 2 shows part of the fastening means of the lid on the base (1), corresponding
with the latter and which consist, in one possible embodiment, of the arrangement
of a number of lateral windows (6) in the vicinity of the front corners.
[0021] Figure 3 shows the lid (7), as can be seen, comprises three consecutively aligned
parts or sectors (7.1) (7.2) and (7.3) separated by a number of transverse, scored
lines, such that the part (7.1) that is arranged on the back of the base (1), the
part (7.2) that is arranged on upper part of the base (1) can be configured, while
the part (7.3) is arranged on the front of the base (1).
[0022] The lid (7) has fastening means cooperative with the means arranged on the base,
and comprising on the part (7.1), in a possible embodiment, a window (7.4) slightly
larger in size than the foldable flap (5) defined at the back of the base on the part
(7.1), while the part (7.3) has, in a possible embodiment, a number of tabs (7.5)
emerging laterally, near the free vertices of the part (7.3). The aforementioned tabs
preferably have a trapezoidal shape and dimensions such that they can pass through
the windows (6) on the front of the base (1).
[0023] In Figure 4, a possible way of attaching the lid on the base can be seen, inserting
the part (7.1) inside the base (1) and by attaching said part (7.1) against the inside
face of the back of the base (1), making the folding tab (5) pass through the window
(7.4). This operation can be performed with or without a product housed inside the
base, considering that to do this, it should have some flexibility to allow the tab
to be inserted.
[0024] In the representations that comprise Figure 5, the final process of fixing the U-shaped
lid to the base (1) can be seen, wherein the folding of the part (7.2) with respect
to the part (7.1) takes place so it is arranged on the upper part of the base, and
additionally the folding of the front part (7.3) housing it inside the base and making
the tabs (7.5) pass through the lateral (6) windows.
[0025] Thanks to the configuration of both the base and the lid, the dual purpose is achieved,
on the one hand, to securely close the base without any products contained therein
falling out, and on the other hand, to achieve a display base wherein the separable
part is completed without causing any breakages, tears or detaching that may damage
the display assembly.
[0026] Having sufficiently described the nature of this invention and how to implement it,
it is noted that, within its essential nature, it may be applied in other embodiments
that differ in detail from that shown, by way of example, and which will also be protected,
provided its fundamental principle is not altered, changed or modified.

aligned parts or sectors (7.1), (7.2) and (7.3) separated by transverse, scored lines,
