    Description

[0001] The present invention relates to an oven wherein the efficiency is enhanced by decreasing thermal losses.

[0002] In ovens, sealing elements of various geometric configurations made of various materials are used to block air inflow into the oven from the door and thus reduce thermal losses. Sealing elements with complex profiles having cavities are preferred in order to maintain effective leak-proofing. Attachment methods such as connection elements, adhesion, and snap-fitting can be used in order to mount the seals on the oven.

[0003] In the state of the art German patent no. DE10131009, a joining element is mounted in a trough formed all along the frame in contact with the door and the sealing element having a slit there along is engaged on this connection element. This oven door provides effective leak-proofing. However, the big joining element used gives rise to increase of costs and to assembly hardships.

[0004] In another state of the art document, the European patent no. EP0859196, a joint, is described wherein a coupling element is placed in the cuts at the corner profiles of the sealing element. Although an effective and inexpensive joint is provided for single-cavity sealing elements, the problem of ineffective leak-proofing cannot be solved which is encountered in the assembly of double-cavity or complex profiled sealing elements caused by the sliding of one portion of the sealing element.

[0005] In another state of the art document, the German patent no. DE10119789 explains the service-opening (12) of the cooker (2) which is closed by a door (4) and has an elastic seal (6) on the front against an opening flange or on the inside of the door and fixed by fastenings (14). The fastenings have a rail-part (26) and at least one hooked part (28) protruding from it and fitting into a cavity (30). The seal covers the front side (34) of the rail-part which has a hooked reverse side (42). The front side of the rail part has at least one bulge (46) over which the seal extends to form a door-fitting. This document discloses an oven according to the preamble of claim 1.

[0006] The object of the present invention is to design an oven comprising sealing elements that can be mounted rapidly and conveniently thus reducing thermal losses.

[0007] The oven designed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is an oven according to claim 1. It comprises a sealing element which is used to maintain an effective leak-proofing, having more than one profile with a thin band for connecting these together and a joining element that allows the assembly thereof such that the profiles will not slide and be parallel to each other along the frame of the oven.

[0008] The oven of the present invention comprises a cooking chamber wherein the food to be cooked is placed and a door that separates the cooking chamber from the outer environment, allowing the access of the user to the cooking chamber. When the door is closed, it bears on the frame at the front side of the oven. A sealing element is mounted on the frame to provide an effective leak-proofing between the door and the frame.

[0009] The sealing element comprises at least two profiles and a connective band joining these together. A groove is formed on the sealing element with at least some portion thereof corresponding to the connective band in order to mount the said sealing element on the frame. At least one joining element is disposed in the groove. Some portion of the groove being on the connective band that also corresponds to the geometric and/or gravity center of the sealing element allows the sealing element to be mounted on the frame unslidably and such that the two profiles are parallel to each other all along the frame.

[0010] The joining element comprises at least one arm inserted into the groove arranged on the sealing element and at least one tab that extends from the groove providing the joining element to be mounted on the frame. The width of the joining element is approximately the same as the groove in which it will be placed. When the joining element is placed in the groove, it bears on the side walls of the groove, thus providing to secure the distance between the two profiles, hence preventing the movement of one profile with respect to the other.

[0011] Openings are formed at several points on the frame, preferably on the corners, sized and positioned such that the tabs can be inserted in order to mount the sealing element on the frame.

[0012] The oven designed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

Figure 1 - is the schematic view of an oven wherein the door is open and the sealing element is mounted.

Figure 2 - is the schematic view of an oven wherein the door is open whereas the sealing element is not mounted.

[0014] The oven (1) comprises a cooking chamber (2) wherein the food to be cooked is emplaced, a door (3) separating the cooking chamber (2) from the outside, providing access of the user to the cooking chamber (2), a frame (4) on which the door (3) bears when closed, a sealing element (6) mounted on the frame (4), to provide leak-proofing between the door (3) and the frame (4), having at least two profiles (7) and at least one connective band (11) joining the profiles (7) together and a joining element (12) providing the assembly of this sealing element (6) on the frame (4) (Figure 1).

[0015] The sealing element (6) comprises at least one groove (10), with at least a portion thereof arranged on the connective band (11), into which the joining element (12) is disposed. When the joining element (12) is attached to the sealing element (6), at least some portion thereof is arranged on the connective band (11) where the approximate geometric and/or gravity center of the sealing element (6) is also situated. Accordingly, the connective band (11), with the approximate geometric and/or gravity center thereon, is supported by the joining element (12) which is preferably made of a harder material than the sealing element (6). Thus the sliding of the sealing element (6) on the frame (4) is prevented and both of the profiles (7) extend such that they are parallel and do not move along the frame (4) with respect to each other (Figure 7).

[0016] The joining element (12) comprises at least one arm (13) secured into the grooves (10) arranged on the sealing element (6) and at least one tab (14) disposed on the arm (13) that extends out from the groove (10) providing the joining element (12) to be fixed to the frame (4) (Figures 3, 4, and 5)

[0017] The width of the joining element (12) is such that it will bear on the side walls of the groove (10) when disposed into the groove (10) so that the distance between the two profiles (7) is secured, preventing the movement of one of the profiles (7) with respect to the other.

[0018] The joining element (12), and the sealing element (6) attached thereto, are fixed on the frame (4) at several places, preferably from the corners. The oven (1) comprises at least one opening (5) at every fixing point on the frame (4) through which the tabs (14) can be inserted (Figure 2).

[0019] In an embodiment of the present invention, the tab (14) is in the shape of a hook or a metal rod with the tip bent angularly.

[0020] In another embodiment of the present invention, the tab (14) is configured, for example like a mushroom, such that it can be fitted into the opening by snap-fitting.

[0021] The sealing element (6) comprises cavities (8) formed inside like cut-outs at each profile (7) for increasing insulation and providing savings in material costs. The insulating property of air is taken advantage of in the cavities (8) filled with air (Figures 6 and 8).

[0022] In another embodiment of the present invention, the sealing element (6) comprises at least one lip (9) arranged on its side contacting the door (3), with one end attached to the profile (7) and the other end shaped like a free extension, for the purpose of providing a better coupling between the door (3) and the frame (4) to prevent air flow from the outside into the cooking chamber (2). The sealing element (6) is mounted relatively to the door (3) such that the lip (9) extends from the outer body of the oven (1) towards the cooking chamber (2) (Figures 6 and 8).

[0023] In an embodiment of the present invention, the sealing element (6) includes two lips (9) thereon. One of these lips (9) extends from one profile (7) to the other such that it will correspond to be on the connective band (11) situated between the two profiles (7). As the door (3) presses on the sealing element (6), this lip (9) forms an insulation volume by closing the region between the two profiles (7) that is, covering over the connective band (11). Consequently, less material is used than when the same volume is formed by another profile (7), however effective insulation is maintained by means of benefiting from the insulating property of air (Figures 6 and 8).

[0024] In an embodiment of the present invention, the sealing element (6) comprises a groove (10) only formed inside the connective band (11). The joining element (12) used in this embodiment comprises a single arm (13). The arm (13) is fitted into the groove (10) in the connective band (11) thus limiting the movement of the profiles (7) with respect to each other (Figure 6).

[0025] In another embodiment of the present invention, the groove (10) formed in the connective band (11) of the sealing element (6) also continues on towards the profiles (7) on the two sides of the connective band (11) or grooves (10) are provided in the profiles (7) as well as the groove (10) in the band (11). The joining element (12) used in this embodiment comprises at least two arms (13) and a bridge (15) that joins these arms (13). As the arms (13) are fitted into the grooves (10) in the profiles (7), the bridge (15) is fitted into the groove (10) in the connective band (11). The bridge (15) restricts the movement of the two profiles (7) with respect to each other thus prevents the probable losses in insulation due to the sliding of the profiles (7) (Figure 7).

[0026] In an embodiment of the present invention, the sealing element (6) is produced as a single piece. It is mounted on the oven (1) such that the frame (4) is encircled from at least three sides.

[0027] The sealing element (6) used in another embodiment of the present invention, has multiple pieces which are joined by a method such as adhesion etc. after the joining element (12) is inserted therein.

[0028] The sealing element (6) used in the oven (1) of the present invention is produced of a material such as plastic, rubber by the extrusion method; the joining element (12) is preferably made of metal.

[0029] In the oven (1) of the present invention, thermal losses are reduced thus providing a more efficient operation by solving the problem of sliding in some portion of the sealing element (6) encountered during the assembly of double-cavity (8) or complex profiled (7) sealing elements (6).
