[0001] The subject of the invention is a gutter assembly unit used in a drainage system
for a roof, balcony or building terrace of which the front edge of the gutter extends
out over the facade, particularly for a building with a roof without eaves.
[0002] Known gutter assembly units have hook-shaped attachment brackets with a U-shaped
cross section girding the gutter in the web, with flanges directed external to the
cross section. In buildings with a roof without eaves where the drainage system of
gutters and downspouts is frequently contained internal to a layer of thermal insulation,
the gutters are shielded with a cover attachment suspended on the front edge of the
gutter and obscuring them substantially in the plane of the building facade. One of
the solutions for the design conditions equivalent to those with a roof without eaves
is presented in the German patent application specification
DE29714562U by the example of the construction presented in Fig.3. A drainage system for a balcony
slab or terrace includes a drip plate, gutter brackets connected to the front surface
of the slab or the external building wall, a gutter with a right-angled-box cross-section
and a cover attachment mounted on the external shoulder of the gutter. The solution
uses components made of aluminum channels and is technically complex. Hook-shaped
gutter brackets of the most commonly used construction are U-shaped, with flanges
directed external to the cross section girding the gutter in the web, for example
as according to the utility model
PL 64347Y.
[0003] In the rear segment, flush to the attachment surface the flanges have mounting members
bent outwardly with mounting holes. The gutter is located between a rim inwardly bent
from the rear wall of the web and the outwardly curved front rim of the bracket contiguous
to the curved front edge of the gutter.
[0004] DE 101 18 227 discloses a gutter assembly unit according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0005] According to the present invention the gutter assembly unit comprises the features
of claim 1. It is similar to the above description, with a U-shaped, hook-shaped bracket
with flanges directed external to the cross section, which web locates the gutter
between a rim inwardly bent from the rear wall of the web and the outwardly curved
front rim of the bracket. The cover attachment is suspended on the curved front rim
of the gutter. The essence of this solution is based on the fact that the bracket
has attachment grooves on the bottom edge of the flanges in the area behind the lower
front bend, directed at a sharp angle downward to the rear and the cover attachment
has a front face of a height greater than the height of the bracket and an oblique
face bent away from the lower edge in from below the bracket upward. The oblique face
is finished with a catch which enters the attachment grooves by elastic deformation.
[0006] It is advantageous for the oblique face of the cover attachment to be bent longitudinally
in the central area creating a cross section in the shape of a broken line, the rear
section of which is perpendicular to the front face of the cover attachment in the
position of the catch.
[0007] It is also advantageous to create the bracket with a rear tongue in the form of a
strip of sheet metal welded to the rear surface at the end of the web. The solution
guarantees easy mounting of the cover attachment, which is attached to the bracket
by elastic deformation, at the same time rending the gutter area favorable architectural
aesthetics.
[0008] The assembly unit solution according to the present invention is illustrated by the
description of sample constructions shown in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 presents
a cross section of the gutter assembly unit with a right-angle-box profile, Fig.2
and Fig.3 successively are perspective views of the cover attachment and bracket,
Fig.4 a cross section of the gutter assembly unit with a semi-circular profile, while
the following Figures 5 and 6 present the cross-section and cover attachment of another
gutter assembly unit, used for a roof without eaves, where the front curved rim of
the gutter is located higher and beyond the upper edge of the building facade.
[0009] Sample unit constructions presented in Figures 1, 2 and 3 have been adjusted to-the
conditions of a building with a roof without eaves where the outer wall is covered
with a layer of insulation 10 and a layer of plaster facade 9 - with a total thickness
greater than the width of the gutter R. Drainage water drips from the roof to the
gutter R via a drainage plate, not visible in the drawing. The location of gutter
R with a right-angled-box cross section is set by brackets U, attached to a wooden
or plastic fascia board under the roof allowing for the anchoring of the U bracket
via screws through the holes in mounting members 7. The bracket U has the shape of
a hook of dimensions designated by the gutter channel R, and is formed from sheet
steel in a U cross section that girds the gutter R in its web with flanges directed
externally. Gutter R is set in bracket U between the rear tongue 1 in the form of
a strip of sheet metal welded to the rear surface at the end of the web. The rear
tongue 1 is bent by hand to the rear edge of the gutter R after its mounting into
location in bracket U and resting on the curved front rim at the front end 2 of the
bracket U. Bracket U has attachment grooves 3 on the bottom edges of the flanges of
the web in the area behind the lower front bend, directed at a sharp angle α downward
to the rear. The cover attachment M is suspended on the curved front rim of the gutter
R, and has a front face 4 of a height H greater than the height h of the bracket U
and an oblique face 5 bent away from the lower edge in direction from below the bracket
U upward and finished with a catch 6. The oblique face 5 is bent longitudinally in
the central area creating a cross section in the shape of a broken line, the rear
section of which is perpendicular to the front face of the cover attachment M at the
position of the catch 6. After having suspended the cover attachment M on the front
rim 2, by pressing the lower end of the front face 4 the assembler causes the elastic
deformation of the bracket U and the insertion of catch 6 into the attachment groove
3 of the cover attachment M. Holes 8 are located in the outwardly curved front rims
2 of the brackets U, through which holes - in the final assembly operations - cover
attachment M and gutter R are fixed with tubular rivets.
[0010] The assembly unit solution shown in Figure 1, 2 and 3 may also be used in the situation
of a roof with eaves, gutters of a semicircular profile and assembly of brackets U
directly to the element constituting the facade of the building - which, for example,
is illustrated in Fig.4.
[0011] The example of the gutter assembly unit illustrated in Fig.5 differs from the above-described
installation conditions. Gutter R is located above and behind the upper edge of the
facade 9. The cover attachment M shown in Fig.6 has a cross-sectional shape determined
by the front face 4 connected to the upper curved rim, finished with corner 11. The
oblique face 5 is bent in corner 11 toward the facade 9 and is finished with a supportive
section 12 with externally bent drip edge. Cover attachment M and gutter R are fixed
with tubular rivets 8 to the front rims of the brackets U.
