[0001] The present invention refers to a suitcase which allows for the partial opening thereof,
such that it facilitates access to the interior without the need to open it completely.
Background of the invention
[0002] Suitcases generally comprise a body with a front face for closing, parallel to another
rear face of the same size, four parallel side faces, two by two, which delimit a
hollow inner receptacle for the placement and transportation of clothes and other
objects.
[0003] One problem in the use of the aforementioned suitcases is that they do not provide
the possibility to access the objects placed therein, both the insertion and removal
of said objects, without completely opening the suitcase. On trips, it is common to
open and close a suitcase several different times in order to have access to different
types of objects, such as objects related to hygiene, work, leisure, money, as well
as personal hygiene items, a laptop computer, tablet computer, phone, books and other
similar items, requiring quick access to said items.
[0004] At security checkpoints in airports, train stations or other similar places, there
is a growing need to have quick access, and on many different occasions, to the interior
of the suitcase to remove or insert identity documents such as passports, ID cards
or even transportation tickets, boarding passes or similar.
[0005] Moreover, nowadays the most common suitcases are vertical with the wheels at the
base, and to open them they must be laid flat on the ground, requiring more space,
which is not always available on trains or planes. Therefore, once the traveler is
on the means of transportation, accessing any item in the interior of the suitcase
is a major problem.
[0006] There are always some items, such as a laptop computer, which must be kept on hand
during the trip, which is why it would be very useful if the suitcase had a space
to place fragile items, thereby ensuring protection thereof, said place being easily
accessible and not requiring the suitcase to be completely opened.
[0007] In some cases, suitcases have an outer pocket on the cover thereof, but if one wants
to store fragile items therein, these items would be more exposed to blows than the
items which are stored inside the suitcase. Therefore, fragile items, such as a laptop
computer, would never be stored in these outer pockets, given that they can be damaged.
[0008] The utility model with publication number U0204704 describes a suitcase with independent
compartments. Said suitcase shows pockets in one of the faces of the suitcase with
independent opening means.
[0009] Therefore, as can be seen, there is a need for suitcases with protected compartments
to which there is easy access, with a single opening means and without the need to
completely open the suitcase in order to have access to said compartments.
Description of the invention
[0010] With the suitcase of the invention, the aforementioned problems are solved.
[0011] The suitcase of the invention has a front area for opening and closing, a crease
line that allows the upper part of the front area to bend such there is access to
the interior of the suitcase without the need to open it completely.
[0012] To this end, the zipper is opened along an extension defined by the ends of the horizontal
crease line, and the upper part of the front area bends and tilts over the crease
line.
[0013] When one wants to completely open the suitcase, the zipper situated on the perimeter
of the front area is entirely opened, except at one fixed segment, on which the front
area tilts when opening and closing the suitcase. One end of the fixed segment is
located at the height of the crease line.
[0014] Therefore, the suitcase of the invention is of the type made up of a containing body
delimited by a front area for opening and closing, a rear area and four parallel side
faces, two by two, wherein the front area for opening and closing has a horizontal
crease line and in which said front area is surrounded in its contour by: a zipper
on three sides thereof and on part of the fourth, and by a fixed segment that does
not have a zipper, in which one end of the fixed segment is situated at the height
of the horizontal crease line of the front area.
[0015] In a preferred embodiment, the crease line is a seam.
[0016] In a preferred embodiment, the upper end of the fixed segment is situated at the
height of the horizontal crease line.
[0017] In a preferred embodiment, the lower end of the fixed segment is situated next to
the lower vertex of the corresponding edge.
[0018] In this way, the possibility of bending the upper part of the front area makes it
possible to have quick access to the interior of the suitcase. Likewise, by comprising
at least one compartment in the interior of the front area, quick access to said compartment
is also possible.
[0019] Therefore, in a preferred embodiment, the front area for opening and closing has
at least one compartment on its inner face and on its lower part.
[0020] It is envisaged that the inner face and the upper part of the front area comprise
at least one compartment regardless of whether or not a compartment situated on the
lower part of the inner face of the front area is present. To that end, it is preferable
that at least one compartment arranged superiorly have a zipper for closing in order
to prevent objects from falling when said upper part is tilted towards the lower surface.
[0021] If the items kept in the compartments are fragile, the compartment is preferably
padded.
Brief description of the drawings
[0022] For the purpose of helping to make the foregoing description more readily understandable,
it is accompanied by a set of drawings that, schematically and by way of illustration
and not limitation, represent an embodiment.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the suitcase closed, according
to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the suitcase partially opened,
according to the present invention.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the suitcase opened, according
to the present invention.
Description of a preferred embodiment
[0023] In accordance with a preferred embodiment shown in figure 1, the suitcase is of the
type that comprise: a hollow body, a front area (1) for opening and closing parallel
to another rear area (2) of a similar size, a handle (3) and wheels (4) to facilitate
transportation.
[0024] The front area (1) for opening and closing is surrounded in its contour by: a zipper
(5) on three of the sides thereof and on part of the fourth, and by a fixed segment
(6) that does not have a zipper.
[0025] The fixed segment (6) is five-ninths of the side corresponding to the front face
(1).
[0026] The front area (1) for opening and closing has a horizontal crease line (7) on which
the front area (1) can bend.
[0027] The upper end of the fixed segment (6) of the contour of the front area (1) is situated
at the height of the horizontal crease line (7) of the front area (1).
[0028] The front area (1) for opening and closing has two axes for tilting. To completely
open the suitcase, said front area (1) tilts on an imaginary axis that is situated
above the fixed segment (6) of the contour of the front area (1). To partially open
the suitcase, the upper part of the front area tilts on an imaginary axis that is
situated above the crease line (7).
[0029] This crease line (7) allows the upper part of the front area (1) of the suitcase
to bend outwards for the purpose of allowing access to items stored in a padded compartment
(8) situated in the lower inner part of the front area (1).
[0030] Preferably, fragile objects such as a laptop computer (9) may be stored in said compartment.
[0031] If one wants to have access to what is stored in this compartment (8), the zipper
(5) must be opened in a perimeter defined by the ends of the crease line (7). Once
the zipper is open, the part of the front area that is above the crease line (7) is
bent over the same, and one may easily access what they have stored in the compartment
(8).
