    Field of Invention



    [0001] This invention relates to a power cable.

    Background of Invention



    [0002] US 6,745,911 discloses a jumper cable for transferring electrical power between railway transit cars. The jumper cable comprises a conductor within an insulator. US 3,914,531 discloses a flat and flexible power transmission cable. The cable is surrounded by a flexible protective sheath, and has an end terminal with a strain relief member in the form of a heat shrinkable plastics material engaging the sheath.

    Summary of Invention



    [0003] In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a high voltage, high power jumper cable as defined by the appended claim 1. The high voltage, high power jumper cable comprises first and second outer sheaths which may be heat shrink tubing.

    Figures 1a and 1b are 3-D and plan views respectively of a high voltage, high power jumper cable according to the present invention.


    Detailed Description



    [0005] Referring to figures 1a and 1b, a jumper cable 10 is shown comprising two terminals 15, 16 connected by a conducting tin coated, copper braid (not shown) which is entirely encases in a first layer of heat shrink tubing 11.

    [0006] In accordance with the present invention, a second layer of heat shrink tubing 12, 13, 14 is applied over the first layer of heat shrink tubing in three locations; a first part 12 at the centre of the conducting cable, and second 13 and third 14 parts adjacent the terminals 15, 16.

    [0007] In use, the second layer of heat shrink tubing 12, 13, 14 provides additional support of the conducting braid, and the selective application of the second layer of heat shrink tubing on the first layer of heat shrink tubing 11 influences the pattern of deformation of the cable 10 under mechanical. I.e. there is less deformation in such regions.

    [0008] Although the embodiment description provides the second layer of heat shrink tubing 12, 13, 14 in three locations of the jumper cable 10, other configurations are contemplated.


    Claims

    1. A high voltage, high power jumper cable (10) comprising a metal conductor encased in a first outer sheath (11), and characterised in that the cable is further encased, partially along the length of the cable, in a second outer sheath (12, 13, 14) which influences the pattern of deformation of the cable under mechanical stress, wherein the second outer sheath (12, 13, 14) is applied over the first outer sheath (11), and wherein the second outer sheath (12, 13, 14) is located in three distinct sections in the middle (12) and at both ends (13, 14) of the cable.
     
    2. A cable according to claim 1 first outer sheath (11) is heat shrink tubing.
     
    3. A cable according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the second outer sheath (12, 13, 14) is heat shrink tubing.
     


    Ansprüche

    1. Hochspannungs-Hochleistungsüberbrückungskabel (10), das einen von einem ersten Außenmantel (11) umschlossenen Metallleiter umfasst, und dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Kabel ferner teilweise entlang der Länge des Kabels von einem zweiten Außenmantel (12, 13, 14) umschlossen ist, der das Verformungsmuster des Kabels unter mechanischer Belastung beeinflusst, wobei der zweite Außenmantel (12, 13, 14) über den ersten Außenmantel (11) aufgebracht wird und wobei sich der zweite Außenmantel (12, 13, 14) an drei getrennten Sektionen in der Mitte (12) und an beiden Enden (13, 14) des Kabels befindet.
     
    2. Kabel nach Anspruch 1, wobei der erste Außenmantel (11) Heißschrumpfschlauch ist.
     
    3. Kabel nach Anspruch 1 oder Anspruch 2, wobei der zweite Außenmantel (12, 13, 14) Heißschrumpfschlauch ist.
     


    Revendications

    1. Câble de pontage haute tension, haute puissance (10) comprenant un conducteur métallique contenu dans une première gaine externe (11) et caractérisé en ce que le câble est en outre contenu, partiellement sur la longueur du câble, dans une seconde gaine externe (12, 13, 14) qui influence le modèle de déformation du câble sous une contrainte mécanique, dans lequel la seconde gaine externe (12, 13, 14) est appliquée par-dessus la première gaine externe (11), et dans lequel la seconde gaine externe (12, 13, 14) est placée dans trois sections distinctes au milieu (12) et aux deux extrémités (13, 14) du câble.
     
    2. Câble selon la revendication 1, dans lequel la première gaine externe (11) est un tube thermo-rétrécissable.
     
    3. Câble selon la revendication 1 ou la revendication 2, dans lequel la seconde gaine externe (12, 13, 14) est un tube thermo-rétrécissable.
