[0001] The solution relates to a roof window arranged to be mounted in a roof with a sloping
pitch of 0-15°, wherein the window comprises: a main supporting frame and a sash frame
with a glazing unit, and an external screen enabling at least to drain rain water
from the window onto the roofing fixed to the sash through its fitting part.
[0002] There is known solution from patent
EP2242889B1, disclosing a skylight comprising a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a
glazing unit. The skylight is protected against rain water by means of a cupola made
of plastic. The cupola is attached to the sash frame by means of special attaching
elements.
[0003] Another solution is known from the
DE6920816U, disclosing an external screen of a skylight window mounted in a sloping roof. The
window consists of a main supporting frame and a sash with a glazing unit. The screen
comprises ventilation openings and is fixed in a movable manner with its one edge
on a hinge to the main supporting frame, whereas the other edges of the screen rest
freely on the roof around the skylight.
[0004] There is also know
US2120060 patent which disclose skylight with external, incline screen frame with pane, wherein
said screen frame is placed on the skylight frame through its vertical metal walls.
Said screen frame comprises ventilation openings and screening element as an protection
against insects.
[0005] There is known roof window from
DE29916885U1 which comprises additional screen frame as a protection against weather conditions.
Said screen frame is attached to the roof window frame by a screw through a sections
which forms a socket for side walls of the screen frame.
[0006] The invention provides a roof window according to claim 1 arranged to be mounted
in a flat roof, with a sloping pitch of 0-15°. The roof window according to the solution
can be built in two versions: as fixed window or as an openable window.
[0007] A fixed window comprises a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing
unit, which are permanently connected to each other. The fixed window can be also
built as a single-frame construction, then, said frame is arranged to be a main supporting
frame with a glazing unit.
[0008] In another version, said flat - roof window is an openable window, which comprises
a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing unit. Said glazing unit comprises
at least two integrated panes which are pressed against the sash frame using a glazing
slat located on the perimeter of the sash frame. The glazing slat is attached to the
sash frame by means of a socket-spline lock connection. The socket and the spline
may be interchangeably located in the sash frame or in the glazing slat. The sash
frame together with the glazing slat is mounted in the main supporting frame notch,
such that each sash frame profiles comprises an overlapping arm, which in mounted
state is located on the external surface of the respective supporting frame profile.
In this embodiment, connection between the main supporting frame and the sash frame
is movable and is executed by means of hinges enabling tilting of the sash frame in
relation to the main supporting frame.
[0009] Both the sash frame and the main supporting frame are made of chamber profiles.
[0010] The external screen according to the solution is arranged to be mounted above said
window and comprises profiles connected to each other to form a frame, in the perimeter
of which at least one pane is mounted. Said pane, in installed state is in a position
which is non-parallel to the glazing unit of the sash frame. The connection of the
external screen frame profiles is performed using generally known methods enabling
creation of a joint between two members, i.e. welding, if the profiles are made of
e.g. aluminium, or thermoforming, or injection moulding if the profiles are made of
plastic.
[0011] External screen profiles comprises an embedding part and a fitting part which allow
for mounting said external screen frame on the window. The pane of the external screen
is mounted in its embedding part which is preferably in the form of a shelf, constituting
a lowered dip of at least one arm of the screen. Between the outer pane and the embedding
part is a linear weather seal and/or a connecting joint. Particularly, around the
edge of the outer pane, a compound sealing the connection of the pane with the screen
frame profiles is located. Additionally, a layer of a masking material is applied
onto the fragment of the external screen pane which is in contact with the sealing.
[0012] The non-parallel position of the external screen pane is performed by different dimensions
of the fitting part of the external screen frame, which is higher at one window edge
and lower at the opposite edge, forming an inclination over the window. Preferably
the incline is at least 2° in relation to the horizontal plane, forming at the same
time an angle against the sash frame glazing unit.
[0013] The external screen is attached to the overlapping arm of the sash frame through
the fitting part of the external screen frame profiles. Said attachement is realised
by connection the overlapping arm of the sash frame directly with the the fitting
part of the external screen with use of a fasteners or indirectly with use of an mounting
bracket and riveting.
[0014] The mounting bracket is with one of its arms fixed to the overlapping arm of the
sash frame, while its other arm is preferably parallel to the external screen fitting
part. The fitting part being coupled with the said arm of the mounting bracket by
means of fasteners, such as screws or rivets.
[0015] Additionally, the fitting part comprises a protrusion by means of which the screen
frame is mounted on the overlapping arm of the sash frame. Preferably, the protrusion
is inserted into the socket in the overlapping arm, introducing an extra fixing lock
for the fitting part of the external screen.
[0016] The space between the external screen and the glazing unit is sufficient to mount
accessories in the form of e.g. a roller with blinding material, or the glazing with
thickness greater than that of the basic unit.
[0017] The blinding accessories can be fixed indirectly on the sash frame, at at least one
side of the window by means of elements holding the blinding material roller. The
blinding accessories are preferably mounted on the sash frame overlapping arm.
[0018] The thicker glazing unit is fixed using a coupler. The coupler described in detail
in application
PL401875A1 is basically made of the same material as the main supporting frame and the window
sash frame. The coupler is used to fix the glazing unit with thickness greater than
that of the basic glazing unit which the standard version of the window is equipped
with. The coupler is fixed to the overlapping arm of the sash frame and comprises
a snap lock socket for mounting the glazing slat on it, in such a manner that the
slat is located higher in relation to the glazing slat of the window with the basic
glazing unit. It effects in creation of space for a new glazing unit with the said
thickness greater than the "basic" unit. The protrusion of the glazing slat is inserted
to the coupler socket for fixing it to the coupler. The position of the socket and
the protrusion can be reversed, i.e. the socket may be located in the coupler and
the protrusion in the sash frame.
[0019] The presented solution preferably facilitates drainage of water from the window with
the sloping pitch obstructing its natural runoff. It is performed owing to the screen,
the pane of which is in a non-parallel position against the glazing unit thus forming
a natural incline for rain water. Moreover, owing to the inclined structure of the
external screen, a broader free space is formed between the window's glazing unit
and the external screen, particularly at one side of the window, facilitating fixing
of a roller shutter on the sash frame.
[0020] The solution embodiments are presented in the drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a cross-section through a simplified version of the flat-roof window
with the external screen,
Fig. 2 shows a fragment of a window cross-section with the external screen and the
mounting bracket fixing the screen to the overlapping arm of the sash frame,
Fig. 3 shows a fragment of a cross-section of the window with the external screen
having the fitting part with the protrusion and a direct coupling of the screen to
the overlapping arm of the sash frame, having a socket for the protrusion of the external
screen.
[0021] In the first embodiment, the window comprises the main supporting frame 1 and the
sash frame 2 with the basic glazing unit 7a. The sash frame 2 being embedded in the
notch of the main supporting frame 1. Both, the sash frame and the main supporting
frame are made of chamber profiles, and the sash frame comprises an arm 2a overlapping
the external surface of the main supporting frame. The window according to this embodiment
is mounted in a flat roof, which is why the window is additionally equipped with the
external screen 3, increasing the incline above the window. The external screen is
formed of profiles connected to each other to form a closed frame. Each profile of
the external screen 3 comprises the fitting part 3a and the embedding part 3b, in
which the pane 3c is mounted. Preferably, the screen pane 3c is mounted on a gasket
and silicone 4a and around its edges there is a weather gasket 4b preventing water
penetration under the pane 3c. The fitting part 3a comprises different dimensions
at the two opposite sides of the window, causing the variable size of this part at
the other sides of the window. In the first embodiment, the fitting part 3a of the
screen is fitted to the overlapping arm 2a by means of the mounting bracket 5, one
arm of which is inserted to the recess of the overlapping arm 2a while the other arm
is parallel to the fitting part 3a of the external screen. The other arm of the mounting
bracket 5 as well as the fitting part are connected to each other by means of fasteners.
Fig. 2 shows the window also equipped with the glazing slat 6a, which presses the
glazing unit into the notch in the sash frame and has a roller with blinding material
8 fixed on the sash frame 2.
[0022] In the second embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the window differs from the window according
to the first embodiment in that the external screen comprises a protrusion 3d which
is inserted to the socket 2b in the overlapping arm 2a of the sash frame, allowing
to support the screen and protect it against being removed from the window. The fitting
part 3a is fixed directly to the sash frame by means of a fastener, e.g. a screw.
The second embodiment of the window is presented with the glazing unit 7b of the sash
2 with increased thickness. The assembly of the glazing unit 7b with increased thickness
is possible thanks to the coupler 6b, which is fixed to the sash frame by means of
a socket-spline coupling set. The glazing slat 6a is connected to the coupler 6b and
the glazing unit 7b is fixed under the glazing slat.
