[0001] The present patent application for industrial invention relates to an apparatus for
making and mounting a sliding panel for doors and windows, preferably consisting in
a mosquito net.
[0002] The peculiarities and the advantages of the present invention will become evident
after a short description of the prior art and of its specific drawbacks.
[0003] Sliding mosquito nets for doors and windows have been available for long on the market,
each of them basically consisting in a panel formed of a frame with a preferably rectangular
shape, which is suitable for centrally supporting a portion of close mesh net.
[0004] Such a panel slides relative to the opening of a door or of a window, in such a way
to alternatively go from an operating position, wherein it blocks the passage of the
door or of the window, preventing the penetration of insects, to a non-operating position,
wherein it frees the passage of the door or of the window after sliding in lateral
direction.
[0005] According to the most common embodiments of sliding mosquito nets, the frame is provided
on its upper crossbar with two wheels that revolve in idle on cylindrical rods that
are mounted in projecting position; it being provided that said wheels are parallel
to the surface of said crossbar and project towards the door or the window.
[0006] Said wheels cooperate with a horizontal box guide with a preferably square section,
which is mounted at the height of the lintel of the door or of the window in order
to let the panel slide alternately relative to the passage of the door or of the window.
[0007] In view of the above, the side of the box guide opposite the mosquito net is provided
with a central longitudinal slot that intersects two circular holes; it being provided
that:
- the slot of said box guide is suitably dimensioned to receive the cylindrical rods
of the two wheels of the mosquito net, with possibility of sliding,
- the two holes of said box guide are spaced by exactly the same distance as the wheels
mounted on the upper crossbar of the mosquito net
- said holes are suitable for being exactly penetrated by the two wheels of the mosquito
net and are spaced by the same distance as the two support rods of said wheels,
- after being inserted in the box guide through the two holes, the wheels of the mosquito
net can slide alternately, using the lower horizontal wall of the box guide as supporting
surface.
[0008] It appears evident that in order to move such a mosquito net, the user simply needs
to push the mosquito net in either direction because such a simple movement will rotate
the two wheels of the mosquito net - which will now act as a trolley - inside the
box guide that is fixed at the height of the lintel.
[0009] In spite of its large popularity, such a consolidated technology is not completely
devoid of drawbacks, the first one being the complicated manipulation of such a sliding
mosquito net when it is installed for the first time and when its position is adjusted.
[0010] In fact, the box guide that cooperates with the mosquito net may be not perfectly
horizontal because of defective mounting or because the lintel where it is fixed is
not perfectly disposed at a right angle.
[0011] Evidently, the non-perfectly horizontal position of the box guide will impair the
position of the mosquito net, which will be not disposed at a right angle.
[0012] Moreover, such a non-perfectly horizontal position of the mosquito net can be visually
detected only after mounting the mosquito net on the box guide.
[0013] In view of the above, the mosquito net must be disassembled in order to adjust its
position relative to the lintel in order to be finally disposed at a right angle.
[0014] The operations that are currently necessary to adjust the position of the panel will
be illustrated in detail in the following description.
[0015] However, it must be noted that the most critical aspect of such an adjustment operation
of the position of the sliding panel is related to the fact that it is necessary to
disassemble the sliding panel from the box guide, in a condition that requires a significant
amount of attention and a considerable physical effort because the user must lift
and hold the panel when it is disassembled (to extract the wheels of the mosquito
net from the holes of the box guide) and when it is re-assembled (to exactly insert
the two wheels in the holes of the box guide).
[0016] A careful observation of this problem has resulted in the disclosure of the present
invention, the main purpose being to obtain a sliding panel that can be installed
easily and firmly, and that especially cooperates with practical and effective means
to adjust its position, in such a way that the operator can dispose the sliding panel
always at a right angle relative to the box guide, without having to remove the sliding
panel from its operating position.
[0017] Such a purpose is achieved with the modular apparatus that is described and claimed
hereinafter.
[0018] For the sake of clarity, the description of the invention continues with reference
to the appended drawings, which have a merely illustrative, not limiting value, wherein:

- Fig. 9A, 9B and 9C are three views of a specimen of the second square, which is suitable
for cooperating with the lower crossbar of said panel.
[0019] With reference to the aforementioned figures, the apparatus of the invention comprises
the following parts.
[0020] The first part consists in a sliding panel (1) provided with a frame formed of two
uprights (100), an upper crossbar (101) and a lower crossbar (102) obtained with metal
sections mounted at right angle with the interposition of connection and fixing squares
(S) with traditional configuration and operation.
[0021] Said uprights (100) and said two crossbars (101, 102) are provided with identical
longitudinal grooves (100a, 101a, 102a) that are perfectly joined at right angle and
obtained on the external perimeter of said panel (1).
[0022] Said grooves (100a, 101a, 102a) have a C-shaped cross-section.
[0023] For this reason, each of said grooves (100a, 101a, 102a) comprises:
- a longitudinal bottom wall (103)
- two lateral edges (104) that protrude perpendicularly from the sides of said bottom
wall (103)
- a longitudinal opening (105) that is defined by the free borders (104a) of said edges
(104), which are shortly directed one towards the other; it being provided that the
width (z-z) of said longitudinal opening (105) is lower than the width (x-x) of said
longitudinal bottom wall (103), as expressly shown in Fig. 2.
[0024] The grooves (101a, 102a) provided in said two crossbars (101, 102) can be accessed
at each end by means of corresponding lateral recesses (101a', 102a') obtained at
the ends of each one of said uprights (100); in this respect, reference is made to
the observation of Fig. 6.
[0025] Moreover, it must be noted that the frame of the panel (1) centrally supports a net
that acts as mosquito net, or alternatively a glass.
[0026] The second part of the apparatus according to the present invention consists in a
box guide (2) that is open at the ends and has a length that is practically double
than the length of the two said crossbars (101, 102) of the panel (1), as shown in
Fig. 1.
[0027] Said box guide (2) is suitable for being mounted under the lintel of the door or
of the window provided with a sliding mosquito net.
[0028] With reference to Fig. 1A, said box guide (2) is has a downward longitudinal groove,
with a substantially C-shaped cross-section and downward concavity, being defined
by an upper horizontal wall (24) and two vertical edges (21) that project from the
lateral borders of said top wall (24).
[0029] Each of said vertical edges (21) supports a longitudinal grooved track (22) with
horizontal direction, which is disposed in projecting position at the lower end (21a),
said longitudinal grooved track (22) projecting towards the interior of the box guide
(2); it being also provided that the two grooved tracks (22) define a central longitudinal
notch (23).
[0030] The task of said box guide (2) is to cooperate with the upper crossbar (101) of said
panel (1) in such a way that the panel (1) can be in a correct right-angle position
and make alternate opening or closing travels relative to the door or to the window
provided with the box guide (2).
[0031] The specific modes of said cooperation will be illustrated in the following description.
It must be noted that said upper crossbar (101) of the panel (1) must be positioned
under said box guide (2), in such a way to perfectly interface said longitudinal opening
(105) of said crossbar (101) with said longitudinal notch (23) of said box guide (2),
as expressly shown in Fig. 1A.
[0032] Moreover, it must be noted that said box guide (2) also cooperates with a compensation
section (200), which basically consists in a metal profile with overturned "U"-shaped
section and is suitable for being fixed to the wall in correspondence of the lintel
of said door or window.
[0033] As a matter of fact, said box guide (2) is provided in upper position with longitudinal
ribs (210) suitable for being exactly engaged in said concave lower side of the compensation
section, when the box guide (2) is used.
[0034] Such a coupling between box guide (2) and compensation section (200) is stabilized
by firmly fixing the compensation section (200) under the lintel with a set of screws
(not shown in the appended figures).
[0035] Likewise, the box guide (2) is fixed to the lintel with a corresponding set of screws
(201) that are inserted from the bottom upwards through corresponding holes (24a)
obtained on the upper horizontal wall (24) of the box guide (2).
[0036] In such a situation, before being engaged in the masonry of the lintel, said screws
(201) also penetrate the upper flat wall (200a) of said compensation section (200);
such provisions can be verified through the combined observation of Figs. 1A and 3.
[0037] Fig. 1A shows the specific installation modes of said screws (201).
[0038] Each one of said screws (201) must be inserted in the box guide (2) through said
longitudinal notch (23) provided in the box guide (2) on the downward-facing side,
until the head of said screw (201) is stopped against the lower surface of said horizontal
wall (24) of the box guide (2).
[0039] It must be noted that, in addition to fixing the box guide (2) to the lintel, said
screws (201) are the adjustment means that can be used to dispose the box guide (2)
in a perfectly horizontal position, also when said lintel is not perfectly disposed
at right angle.
[0040] Considering that the box guide (2) is the fixing and sliding point for said panel
(1), it is evident that if the box guide (2) is not capable of being in a perfectly
horizontal position, also the position of the panel (1) will be irremediably impaired.
[0041] Said adjustment screws (201) can be actuated by inserting a screwdriver from the
bottom upwards inside the box guide (2) through said longitudinal notch (23) provided
in the box guide (2).
[0042] The third part of the apparatus according to the invention consists in a metal strip
(3) suitable for being fixed to the lintel of the door or of the window in perfect
alignment with said box guide (2) mounted in the lintel of the door or of the window,
and having the same length.
[0043] In particular, said strip (3) is provided in upper position with a rectilinear longitudinal
rib (3a) that is suitable for being disposed in a perfectly aligned position relative
to the position of said longitudinal notch (23) in the box guide (2).
[0044] The function of said strip (3) is to be coupled with the lower crossbar (102) of
said panel (1), in such a way to act as an additional guiding and sliding element
of the panel (1) in opening position and in closing position. The specific modes of
said coupling will be illustrated shortly.
[0045] The fourth part of the apparatus according to the invention consists in a first square
(4) that comprises a horizontal segment (4a) joined at right angle with a vertical
segment (4b).
[0046] The horizontal segment (4a) of said first square (4), which is suitably provided
with a rectangular section, is exactly inserted in one of the ending sections of said
groove (101a) provided in the upper crossbar (101) of the panel (1), using one of
said lateral recesses (101a') provided at the ends of said groove (101).
[0047] In view of the above, the height (H) of the horizontal segment (4a) is substantially
equal to the distance (y-y) between the bottom wall (103) of the corresponding groove
(101a) and the two borders (104a) that define the longitudinal opening (105), whereas
the width (L) is substantially equal to the width (x-x) of the bottom wall (103) of
said groove (101a) and is consequently lower than the width (z-z) of said longitudinal
opening (105) of said groove (101a); the dimensional ratios between the aforementioned
parts can be verified by means of the combined observation of Figs. 2 and 8A.
[0048] In particular, the higher width of the horizontal segment (4a) of said first square
(4), compared to the width of the longitudinal opening (105) of the groove (101a)
prevents the first square (4) from coming out of its corresponding groove (101a) through
said longitudinal opening (105).
[0049] Moreover, it must be noted that said horizontal segment (4a) is provided in upper
position with a cylindrical tubular rod (40), which is preferably obtained in one
piece on the first square (4).
[0050] An axis (41a) is orthogonally mounted on the top of said rod (40), and is suitable
for rotating freely relative to the rod (40); it being also provided that an equal
number of idle wheels (41) is mounted in parallel position at the two ends of said
axis (41a).
[0051] Preferably, the fixing of said axis (41a) on the top of the rod (40) is obtained
by means of a screw with vertical axis (42) suitable for cooperating with a tightening
nut (43), as shown in Fig. 8A.
[0052] In fact, said screw (42) penetrates said rod (40) from the bottom upwards, taking
advantage of the provision of an access hole that passes through said horizontal segment
(4a) of the first square (4).
[0053] The length of said screw (42) is such that, when its enlarged head is stopped against
the perimeter borders of said access hole, its tip can end above said tubular rod
(40), after crossing a suitable hole (41a') that is perpendicularly obtained through
said revolving axis (41a) used to support the wheels (41).
[0054] In such a way, the tip of said screw (42) can be helically coupled with said tightening
nut (43) disposed on said axis (41a) of the wheels (41).
[0055] It must be noted that the diameter of said tubular cylindrical rod (40) is lower
than the width of the longitudinal opening (105) of said groove (101 a) of the upper
crossbar (101) of the panel (1).
[0056] Therefore, when said horizontal segment (4a) of the first square (4) is inserted
in the groove (101a), the vertical rod (40) can slide freely along the longitudinal
opening (105) of the groove (101a), in such a way that its pair of wheels (41) projects
above said upper crossbar (101) of the panel (1).
[0057] Furthermore, it must be considered that the diameter of said vertical rod (40) that
projects from the horizontal segment (4a) of the first square (4) is also lower than
the width of the longitudinal notch (23) provided in said box guide (2) that is suitable
for being fixed in the lintel of a door or of a window.
[0058] Likewise, it must be noted that said two wheels (41) provided on top of said cylindrical
rod (40) are suitable for being inserted and alternatively sliding inside the grooved
tracks (22) internally provided in the box guide (2), according to cooperation modes
that will be illustrated hereinafter in detail.
[0059] The vertical segment (4b) of said first square (4), which is provided with a basically
rectangular section, is designed to act as end-stop means for the insertion of the
horizontal segment (4a) in said groove (101 a') of the upper crossbar (101 a) of the
panel (1).
[0060] Such an end-stop effect occurs when said vertical segment (4b) is stopped against
the bottom wall (103) of the groove (100a) of one of the two uprights (100) of the
panel (1); it being provided that such a deep penetration of the vertical segment
(4b) of the first square (4) in the groove (100a) is permitted by the fact that the
width (L1) of said vertical segment (4b) is lower than the width (z-z) of the longitudinal
opening (105) of said groove (100a).
[0061] Said vertical segment (4b) is also provided with a circular through hole (4b') for
the insertion of a self-tapping screw suitable for engaging in said bottom wall (103)
of said groove (100a) of one of the uprights (100) of the panel (1), thus stabilizing
the operating position of the first square (4) relative to the sliding door (1).
[0062] The fifth part of the apparatus according to the invention consists in a second square
(5) with the same structure and dimensions as the first square (4), which is suitable
for cooperating with one of the ends of the groove (102a) provided in the lower crossbar
(102) of the panel (1).
[0063] Also the second square (5) comprises a horizontal segment (5a) and a vertical segment
(5b), which are practically identical to the corresponding segments (4a, 4b) of the
first square (4).
[0064] As a matter of fact, the horizontal segment (5a) of said second square (4) is suitable
for being firmly inserted in one of the ends of said groove (102a) of the lower crossbar
(102) of the panel (1), after passing through the lateral recess (102a').
[0065] Likewise, the vertical segment (5b) is the end-stop means for the insertion of the
horizontal segment (5a) in the groove (102a) when it is stopped against the bottom
wall (103) of the groove (100a) of one of said uprights (100) of the panel (1).
[0066] Also in this case, said vertical segment (5b) is provided with a circular through
hole (5b') for the insertion of a self-tapping screw suitable for engaging in said
bottom wall (103) of said groove (100a) of one of the uprights (100) of the panel
(1), thus stabilizing the operating position of the second square (5).
[0067] The peculiarity of the second square (5) consists in the fact that its horizontal
segment (5a) is provided in lower position with a pair of longitudinal edges (5a')
spaced by a distance (L2) that is lower than the width (z-z) of the longitudinal opening
(105) of said groove (102a) of the lower crossbar (102) of the panel (1).
[0068] In view of the above, the two edges (5a') of the second square (5) protrude through
said longitudinal opening (105) under the lower crossbar (102) of the door (1).
[0069] In such a condition, the two edges (5a') can embrace from opposite sides, from up
downwards, the longitudinal rib (3a) that projects from the surface of said strip
(3) fixed to the floor.
[0070] A similar exact coupling between the edges (5a') of the second square (5) and the
rib (3a) of the strip (3) contributes to the stability and correctness of the alternate
sliding movements of the panel (1) because of a similar cooperation between the lower
crossbar (102) and the strip (3).
[0071] After illustrating the structure of the various parts of the apparatus according
to the invention, this description continues by illustrating the sequence of installation
operations and the cooperation mode of the different parts.
[0072] First of all, the compensation section (200), which is fixed to said box guide (2),
is fixed under the lintel of a door or of a window.
[0073] Successively, two specimens of said first square (4) are mounted on said box guide
(2), inserting each one of said first squares (4) through one of the lateral ends
of the box guide (2).
[0074] In particular, the two wheels (41) disposed on the horizontal segment (4a) of each
first square (4) must penetrate the box guide (2) and must be exactly coupled with
said grooved tracks (22) provided in the box guide (2).
[0075] At the end of such an operation, the tubular rod (4) that protrudes upwards from
each first square (4) in order to support the corresponding pair of wheels (41) is
slidingly inserted in the longitudinal notch (23) of said box guide (2), whereas the
horizontal segment (4a) is disposed under and out of said box guide (2).
[0076] The vertical segments (4b) of the two first squares (4) protrude downwards relative
to the box guide (2), substantially at the two ends of the box guide (2).
[0077] Then, the box guide (2), which is already provided with two specimens of said first
square (4), is mounted under the compensation profile (200) that is already fixed
to the lintel; it being provided that a similar operation is made by means of the
screws with vertical axis (201).
[0078] Now, the panel (1) is practically "hung" to said two first squares (4) that are already
coupled with the box guide (2).
[0079] Therefore, the horizontal segments (4a) of the two first squares (4) are inserted
through the recesses (101a') in the two ends of the groove (101a) of the upper crossbar
(101) of the panel (1), until the two vertical segments (4b) are stopped against the
bottom wall (103) of the grooves (100a) of the two uprights (100) of the panel (1),
where they are fixed with the self-tapping screws.
[0080] On the other hand, the horizontal segments (5a) of the two second squares (5) must
be inserted through the recesses (102a') in the two ends of the groove (102a) of the
lower crossbar (102) of the panel (1), until the two vertical segments (5b) are stopped
against the bottom wall (103) of the grooves (100a) of the two uprights (100) of the
panel (1), where they are fixed with the self-tapping screws.
[0081] Moreover, it must be noted that the four sections used to make the frame of the panel
(1) are provided on the sides of said longitudinal openings (100a, 101a, 102a) with
two thin rectilinear grooves (111), each one of them being preferably suitable for
forcedly housing a dust proof brush seal (112) that prevents the penetration of dust.
[0082] In view of this description, the specific advantages of the apparatus according to
the invention compared to the prior art can be easily understood.
[0083] Firstly, it must be noted that the positioning of the panel (1) in the two supporting
and guiding points, which are represented by said box guide in upper position (2)
and said strip (3) mounted on the floor, is extremely easy.
[0084] An additional advantage of said apparatus is represented by the fact that the position
of the panel (1) can be adjusted rapidly and comfortably, in such a way to correctly
dispose the panel (1) at right angle also when the lintel with the box guide (2) and
the compensation section (200) is not perfectly horizontal.
[0085] In view of the above, it must be noted that the prior art provides for the possibility
of adjusting the position of a sliding panel, in such a way that the sliding panel
is perfectly positioned at right angle; it being provided, more precisely, that the
part used for adjusting the position is not the panel (1), but the box guide (2) where
the upper crossbar (101) of said panel (1) is to be "hung".
[0086] As mentioned above, like some expressions of the prior art, also the apparatus of
the present invention provides for the possibility of adjusting the position of the
box guide (2) by means of the screws (201) that are screwed in the masonry of the
lintel.
[0087] It must be noted that such an adjustment of the position of the box guide (2) can
be performed only after uncoupling the panel (1) from said box guide (2); this is
done in order to free the box guide (2) from the weight discharged by the panel (1)
in its operating position.
[0088] In such a context, the real advantage of the apparatus according to the present invention
compared to the prior art consists in the fact that the removal of the panel (1) from
the box guide (2) is more rapid and more practical, when the user needs to use the
adjustment screws (201) of said box guide (2).
[0089] The drawbacks that are encountered in the prior art when the user needs to disassemble
the crossbar of a sliding panel - of the type provided with a pair of wheels that
protrude on the side of the panel towards the box guide - from the box guide have
been already illustrated in the premise, saying that the worst inconvenience is caused
by the fact that the disassembling of a traditional panel from the box guide requires
the user to manually move and support the heavy panel for the entire time that is
necessary to remove the panel from the box guide, adjust the screws of the box guide
and replace the panel on the box guide.
[0090] On the contrary, with the panel (1) according to the apparatus of the invention,
similar operations are easier and less demanding for the operators.
[0091] In fact, in order to disassemble the panel (1) from the box guide (2), it is simply
necessary to remove the screws used to fix said vertical segments (4b) of the pair
of said first squares (4) on the sides of the upper crossbar (101) of the panel (1).
[0092] During such a disassembling operation, and for the entire time that is necessary
to adjust the screws (201) provided in the box guide (2), it is not necessary to support
the weight of the panel (1) because the lower crossbar (102) remains advantageously
positioned and coupled with the strip (3) that is fixed to the floor.
[0093] After adjusting the screws (201), the panel (1) can be fixed again to the box guide
(2) by simply screwing said vertical segments (4b) of the two first squares (4) in
the two uprights (100) of the panel (1) on the two sides of the upper crossbar (101).

in the bottom wall (103); wherein the groove (101a) provided in said crossbar (101)
