    Description

    [0001] The present invention concerns an insulation profile for a window or door.

    [0002] It is known that windows and doors are formed by a fixed frame with a leaf attached rotatably inside the frame.

    [0003] The frame and the leaves are made of profiles of aluminium, a synthetic material or suchlike, with these profiles consisting of an outer shell and an inner shell connected to each other by means of one or more insulation channels that are to form a heat insulating bridge between the outer shell on the outside of a building and the inner shell on the inside of the building.

    [0004] When the window or the door is closed, a space is created between the fixed frame and the leaves.

    [0005] With the known profiles, insulation channels are applied with, in said space between the fixed frame and the leaves, a part protruding inwards that divides said space into two smaller chambers that are however connected to each other by a narrow air gap between the insulation channels of the frame and the leaf. An example of such an arrangement is shown in EP-A-2787159.

    [0006] The smaller the chambers, the smaller the risk that convection air currents could occur in these chambers that could negatively influence the insulation value of the relative window or door.

    [0007] Said air gap may not be too small to ensure that taking account of possible tolerance errors on the dimensions of the frame and/or of the leaf the insulation channels could meet and damage each other or impede the opening and closing of the window or door.

    [0008] Said air gap may also not be too large as otherwise it will increase the volume of the smaller chambers too much and this has a negative impact on the occurrence of said undesired convection currents.

    [0009] Through design the profiles with their insulation channels are sized such that in theory a nominal gap is obtained with an opening of a maximum of 2 mm between the smaller chambers.

    [0010] In practice however there are also tolerances for the processing of the profiles such as with sawing the profiles to size, potentially causing for example the leaf to be 2 mm too large or the frame 2 mm smaller than the nominal size.

    [0011] As a result, the gap between frame and leaf is 1 mm smaller around, causing a problem with smaller windows where the window can no longer be opened because of the turning circle as the profile of the leaf falls against the profile of the frame when opening.

    [0012] Another profile according to the prior art is shown in WO2011/032193. This profile shows all the features of the preamble of claim 1.

    [0013] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a solution to one or more of the aforementioned and other disadvantages.

    [0014] To this end, the invention concerns a compound profile for the assembly of a frame or a leaf of a window or door, with the compound profile comprising a basic profile of aluminium or suchlike that is made up of an outer shell with an outer side and an inner shell with an inner side and one or more insulation channels that join both shells to each other and also containing an insulation profile, whereby the basic profile and/or the insulation profile is provided with coupling parts to be able to fasten the insulation profile against an aforementioned lateral side, whereby these coupling parts of the insulation profile are formed by at least two legs that are mainly parallel and extend at a distance from each other in the lateral direction (X-X') and that are sliding clamped around and/or between one or several laterally protruding coupling parts of the basic profile in the lateral direction (X-X'), in which the outer coupling parts of the basic profile are formed by ribs that on the sides facing each other are provided with barbs that can hook into complementary barbs located on the opposite legs of the insulation profile with the assembly of the insulation profile on the basic profile and this in two positions, being a first lateral position whereby the central legs of the insulation profile rest on the central rib of the insulation profile and the outer legs are hooked behind the outer ribs of the basic profile, and a second more pressed-in lateral position whereby the central legs are hooked behind the central rib of the basic profile and a part of the outer legs touch or nearly touch the outer ribs of the basic profile.

    [0015] The lateral side of the basic profile on which the insulation profile is attached is the side that with a closed door faces said space between the frame and the leaf.

    [0016] Because the insulation profile protrudes laterally, in other words towards the space and to an opposite profile of the frame or the leaf, it can be used to divide the relative space into two or more smaller chambers to prevent the convection of air with an air gap that joins the chambers with each with other.

    [0017] Because the lateral position of the insulation profile is adjustable, the width of the opening of the air gap can be adjusted taking account of size variations that can occur with the assembly of the frame and the leaf.

    [0018] In this way the appropriate adjustment can ensure that there is always a sufficiently wide air gap to prevent contact between frame and leaf and that at the same time the air gap is sufficiently narrow, preferably a maximum of 2 mm wide, to maximally exclude convection currents.

    [0019] Preferably, the coupling parts of the basic profile are fitted at an insulation channel where appropriate details are usually already applied to be able to fix an insulation profile.

    [0020] In this way only the insulation profile has to be adjusted without having to touch the basic profile.

    [0021] The invention also relates to a window or door with a fixed frame with a rotatable leaf in it that in the closed position encloses a space with the fixed frame between two opposite lateral walls of the frame and of the leaf, whereby the frame and/or the leaf is at least partly made up of compound profiles according to the invention with a basic profile and an insulation profile that divides said space into at least two chambers of a smaller size connected to each other by an air gap between the insulation profile and an opposite lateral side of an opposite profile, whereby the lateral position of at least one insulation profile is adjusted in such a way that the width of the opening of the air gap in the closed position of the window or door is a maximum of two millimetres.

    [0022] With the intent of better showing the characteristics of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a compound profile according to the invention for a window or door and a window or door assembled with such, is described hereinafter by way of an example, without any limiting nature, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

    figure 1 schematically shows a perspective view of a closed window according to the invention;

    figure 2 shows a cross-section according to line II-II in figure 1;

    figure 3 shows the part indicated in figure 2 with a frame F3 on a larger scale;

    figures 4 and 5 are figures corresponding with figures 2 and 3 but in another situation;

    figure 6 shows an alternative embodiment in the situation of figure 5.

    [0023] The window 1 shown in figure 1 by way of example has a fixed frame 2 to be built into a wall or suchlike and a leaf 3 rotatably applied in the frame 2.

    [0024] Both the frame 2 and the leaf 3 are made of basic profiles, basic profiles 4 for the frame 2 and basic profiles 5 for the leaf 3 respectively.

    [0025] As is known these basic profiles are made up of an outer shell 6 with an outer side 6' that is intended to face the outside of the wall and an inner shell 8 with an inner side (7') on the inside of the wall.

    [0026] The outer shells 6 and the inner shells 7 are made of aluminium, synthetic material or suchlike and are connected to each other by means of one or more so-called insulation channels 8 in a heat-insulating material that form an insulating bridge between the outer shells 6 and the inner shells 7.

    [0027] In the closed position of the window 1 as shown in the figures there is a space 9 demarcated by two opposite lateral sides 10 and 11 facing each other of the basic profiles 4 and 5, which are to allow the leaf 3 to be opened and closed without the leaf 3 colliding with the frame 2.

    [0028] The insulation channels 8 are often provided with coupling parts 12 as shown in the figures, for example for fitting seals or insulating elements or parts of a window fittings or suchlike.

    [0029] In the example in the figures these coupling parts 12 on the lateral side of the insulation channels 8 of the basic profiles 4 of the fixed frame 2 are in the form of ribs 13 that extend in the lateral direction X-X' transverse to the lateral sides 10, whereby these ribs 13 are provided along their free edge with a thickened end to form a type of barb 14 on both sides of the ribs 13 behind which a seal or suchlike can be hooked.

    [0030] In the example there are two outer coupling parts 12 and a central coupling part 12 between the two outer coupling parts 12.

    [0031] In the case of the invention these coupling parts are used to fix an additional insulation profile 15 against the lateral side 10, with the insulation profile 15 dividing the space 9 into two chambers with a smaller volume, being a chamber 16 along the side of the outer shells 6 and a chamber 17 along the side of the inner shells 7 respectively, with chambers 16 and 17 connected to each other by a narrow air gap 18 between the insulation profile 15 and the insulation channel 8 of the opposite basic profile 5 of the leaf 3.

    [0032] In the example shown the insulation profile 15 mainly has the form of a polygonal C-shaped profile provided at its free ends with two outer coupling parts 19 in the form of two parallel legs 20 that fit clamping between the outer coupling parts 12 of the basic profile 4 and that allow the insulation profile 15 to be slid in the lateral direction X-X' to the basic profile 4 or away from the basic profile 4 in order to adapt the opening of the air gap 18 if required.

    [0033] The outer coupling parts 19 are also provided with complementary barbs 21 on the sides of the legs 20 facing away from each other with which the insulation profile 15 can be hooked behind the barbs 14 of the outer coupling parts 12 of the basic profile 4.

    [0034] The legs 20 are connected at their base with the C-shaped profile by means of stop-forming walls 22 that extend in each other's line in a direction transverse to the lateral direction X-X' .

    [0035] Furthermore the insulation profile 15 is provided with a central coupling part 19 that can cooperate with the central coupling part 12 of the basic profile 4 and that is formed by two parallel legs 23 that extend at a distance from each other in the lateral direction X-X' and that fit clamping around the central coupling part 12 of the basic profile 4 and can be slid along it clamped.

    [0036] On the sides facing each other the legs 23 are provided with barbs 24 that can hook behind the barbs 14 of the central coupling part 12 of the basic profile 4.

    [0037] The insulation profile 15 is sized and shaped in such a way that it can be assembled in two discrete lateral positions on the basic profile, being a first extreme lateral position as shown in figures 2 and 3 and a second lateral position as shown in figures 4 and 5, whereby the insulation profile 15 in relation to the first position in the lateral direction X-X' is moved a little further from the basic profile 4 parallel to itself so to speak, preferably over a distance of around one millimetre.

    [0038] The lateral movement of the insulation profile 15 between the two abovementioned positions amounts to around one millimetre.

    [0039] In the first position of figures 2 and 3 the central coupling parts 19 of the insulation profile 15 rest on the central coupling parts 12 of the basic profile 4, whereby the barbs 21 of the outer coupling parts 19 of the insulation profile 4 hook behind the barbs 14 of the outer coupling parts 12 of the basic profile 4 to prevent the insulation profile 15 from inadvertently becoming loose.

    [0040] A stable first position is obtained with this central support and the clamping of the legs 20 between the outer ribs 13.

    [0041] In the second position in figures 4 and 5 the insulation profile 15 is further pushed to the basic profile 4 until the barbs 24 of the central coupling parts 19 of the insulation profile 15 have hooked tight behind the barbs 14 of the central coupling part 12 of the basic profile, preventing the insulation profile from inadvertently coming loose from this second position.

    [0042] In this second position the stop-forming walls 22 of the insulation profile 15 are in contact with the ends of the ribs 13 of the outer coupling parts 12 of the basic profile, or between both parts there is a little play of for example two tenths of a millimetre to accommodate dimensional tolerance.

    [0043] The use of such an insulation profile 15 enables setting the width B of the opening of the air gap 18 in two positions to be able to adjust the width B of the air gap, with width B for this application defined as the smallest distance between the insulation profile 15 and the lateral side 11 of the opposite basic profile 5 of the frame, with the smallest distance in the example shown occurring at a drip edge 25 provided on the insulation profile 15 to channel splashing water.

    [0044] The use of the insulation profile 15 is simple and as follows.

    [0045] In figures 2 and 3 a nominal situation is shown as provided through design, with a mutual position of the leaf 3 with respect to the frame 2 marked by distance A in nominal circumstances.

    [0046] The insulation profile 15 is sized in such a way that when the insulation profile 15 is mounted on the basic profile 4 in the first position of figures 2 and 3, automatically a correct width of 2 mm is obtained for the opening of the air gap 18 in nominal circumstances.

    [0047] Figures 4 and 5 on the other hand show a situation whereby due to size variations the leaf 3 is made a little too large with respect to the nominal design situation, shown in these figures by the fact that the distance A between the basic profiles 4 and 5 of the frame 2 and of the leaf 3 is less than in the nominal situation in figures 2 and 3, so the risk would exist that with the insulation profile 15 in the first position, this insulation profile 15 of the leaf 3 could collide with the frame 2.

    [0048] To prevent this, in this case the insulation profile 15 is on assembly pushed from the first position to the second position closer to the basic profile 4, so the air gap 18 is wider by approx. one millimetre. Typically this distance is sufficient to accommodate size tolerances with the assembly of a leaf or a frame without a risk of collision and with an air gap 18 with a width of a maximum of two millimetres.

    [0049] Obviously the coupling parts 12 and/or 19 of the profiles 4 and of the insulation profile 15 and/or these profiles 4 and 15 must have a certain elastic deformability to be able to obtain a certain clip effect when the coupling parts 12 and 19 are snapped into each other and to hold the insulation profile 15 in a certain set position with respect to the basic profile 4 by clamping.

    [0050] Figure 6 shows a variant of an insulation profile 15 in which the insulation profile 15 is provided with extra tabs 26 which when mounted extend in the lateral direction X-X' on both sides of said coupling parts 12 and 19, such that these coupling parts 12 and 19 are concealed in the compound profile 4-15.

    [0051] These extra tabs 26 can also provide extra clamping of the insulation profile 15 on the thickened end of the outer ribs 13 of the insulation profile 15 and as a result provide greater stability.

    [0052] Obviously the attachment of the insulation profile 15 on the basic profile 4 in two fixed lateral positions can also be achieved in other ways and adjustment does not have to be in two fixed positions, but also by allowing a certain play a certain limited adjustment is possible of intermediate positions, either continuously or in discrete steps by serrating or suchlike.

    [0053] It is clear that the insulation profile 15 can be mounted only on the leaf 3 as shown in the examples or only on the frame 2 or on the leaf 3 and the frame 2.

    [0054] It is not excluded that the coupling parts 12 of the basic profile are not positioned at the location of an insulation channel 8, but for example on an outer shell 6 and/or inner shell 7.

    [0055] The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments as described as an example and shown in the drawings, but a compound profile for a window or door according to the invention can be realized in all kinds of variants and dimensions, without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
