    Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a girth for lunging a horse or groundwork with a horse of the type as recited in the preamble of the first claim.

[0002] A similar device is described in patent document DE224654C.

[0003] In particular, the present invention relates to a girth for training known as lunge training.

[0004] Lunge training is a fundamental technique for the athletic preparation of the horse. This training helps the horse in fact, to move with both sides balanced and advance with proper posture and a regular gait.

[0005] Currently many accessories are used, for lunge training such as fixed reins, long reins and other types, which have the purpose of relaxing the horse by mimicking the function of the rider's hand.

[0006] The action of these accessories, therefore, works exclusively on the horse's mouth. The prior art described has several significant drawbacks.

[0007] Almost all devices, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, are concentrated on the upper line of the animal and do not provide any type of support regarding lateral flexibility.

[0008] However, every horse, just as any human, is not perfectly symmetrical: horses can in fact be left-dominant, right-dominant and have an asymmetric dominance. These features make animals not perfectly aligned in their movements and body with the result of generating, if the appropriate measures are not taken, countless problems affecting the locomotion, behaviour and health of the same horses.

[0009] In this situation the technical purpose of the present invention is to devise a girth for ground or lunge training a horse able to substantially overcome at least some of the drawbacks mentioned.

[0010] Within the sphere of said technical purpose, one important aim of the invention is to obtain a girth for training that allows training not only on the upper line of the animal and in particular along the lower line.

[0011] Another important purpose of the invention is to provide a girth that is able to tighten, relaxing the horse's muscles during the movement so as to make them flexible. As a result, a further object of the invention is to remove the tensions and the pain related to the incorrect posture of the horse in order to prevent the onset of stress, mental imbalances and oppositional behaviour of the horse.

[0012] In conclusion, a further technical task of the invention is to contribute to the well-being and competitive longevity of the horse at both amateur and competitive levels.

[0013] The technical purpose and specified aims are achieved by a girth for lunging a horse or groundwork with a horse as claimed in the appended Claim 1.

[0014] Preferred technical embodiments are described in the dependent claims.

[0015] The characteristics and advantages of the invention are clearly evident from the following detailed description of preferred embodiments thereof, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

    Fig. 1 shows a device included in a girth according to the invention;

    Fig. 2 illustrates a girth according to the invention in which the device is integrated in a support and comprising two lever mechanisms;

    Fig. 4 is a diagram with a side view of the lever mechanism of a girth according to the invention tightened;

Fig. 5 shows a girth according to the invention comprising two lever mechanisms and positioned on a horse in a view from above and with the correct posture; and

Fig. 6 illustrates a girth according to the invention comprising two lever mechanisms and positioned on a horse in a side view.

[0016] Herein, the measures, values, shapes and geometric references (such as perpendicularity and parallelism), when used with words like "about" or other similar terms such as "approximately" or "substantially", are to be understood as except for measurement errors or inaccuracies due to production and/or manufacturing errors and, above all, except for a slight divergence from the value, measure, shape or geometric reference which it is associated with. For example, said terms, if associated with a value, preferably indicate a divergence of not more than 10% of said value.

[0017] In addition, where used terms such as "first", "second", "upper", "lower", "main" and "secondary" do not necessarily refer to an order, a priority relationship or relative position, but may simply be used to more clearly distinguish different components from each other.

[0018] The measurements and data presented herein are to be considered, unless otherwise indicated, as made in Standard International Atmospheres ICAO (ISO 2533: 1975).

[0019] With reference to said drawings, reference numeral 1 globally denotes the girth for ground or lunge training a horse according to the invention.

[0020] The girth 1 preferably has the characteristics of a classic English girth.

[0021] Thus it may comprise, for example, a support 2. The support 2 is, for example, a strap that can be tied at both ends to a saddle so as to girdle the lower portion of a horse and, in particular, the belly of the horse.

[0022] Furthermore, the girth 1 preferably comprises a device 3.

[0023] The device 3 may be included inside the support 2 and be a portion thereof. Alternatively, the device 3 can be removably connected to the support 2 as wished and may be fastened along it as desired.

[0024] In this case, the device 3 preferably also comprises the fastening means 30.

[0025] The fastening means 30 may comprise one or more loop portions suitable to contain inside them part of the support 2.

[0026] Substantially, the fastening means 30 are preferably rings making it possible to move the device 3 along the support 2 and fasten the device 3 at a given point of the support 2.

[0027] In order to do this, for example, the fastening means may be annular structures comprising at least one control portion suitable to narrow or broaden the loop made by the fastening means 30.

[0028] Structures of this type are known, for example, of in the clothing or handbag sector and preferably consist of straps.

[0029] The device 3 comprises, in addition, a mechanism 31. In the case in which the device 3 is part of the support 2, preferably, the girth 1 itself comprises the mechanism 31.

[0030] The mechanism 31 is a lever mechanism suitable to exert a pressure on the side of the horse.

[0031] Preferably, the mechanism 31 defines a support plane 31a.

[0032] The support plane 31a is preferably the plane that adheres to the belly or, rather, to a portion of the belly of the horse. The support plane 31a may also be slightly curved so as to follow the lines of the horse's belly and be more comfortable for the latter.

[0033] The mechanism 31 comprises a lever 32 and at least one pin 33.

[0034] The lever 32 is preferably a class one lever. It has in other words at least a first rod 32a, a second rod 32b.

[0035] The pin 33, preferably defines the fulcrum of the lever 32 and may be a mechanical hinge of any type. Preferably, it is arranged in an intermediate position of the lever 32, as all class one levers, and divides and substantially connects the first and second rod 32a, 32b.

[0036] The pin 33 thus structurally connects the rods 32a, 32b so as to allow the rotation around the pin 33 of the rods 32a, 32b relative to the device 3.

[0037] The rods 32a, 32b are preferably in one piece and hinged in the fulcrum pin 33. Preferably, the pin 33 defines an axis of rotation 33a.

[0038] The axis of rotation 33a is preferably coplanar relative to the support plane 31a. Therefore, preferably, the rods 32a, 32b may perform rotations around the axis of rotation 33a in an integral manner and respectively away from and towards, or towards and away from the support plane 31a.

[0039] Consequently, preferably, the device 3 also comprises a hole 36.

[0040] Preferably, the hole 36 is suitable to house at least part of the lever 32 so as to allow the rotation of the same around the pin 33 without obstruction.

[0041] In particular, preferably, the hole 36 is suitable to house part of the second rod 32a. The first rod 32a is preferably to be considered as the rod placed at the outer side of the device 3, relative to the horse, while the second rod 32b is to be considered as mainly placed at the inner side of the device 3, relative to the horse, i.e. towards the belly of the horse.

[0042] The second rod 32b is suitable to interact with the side of the horse. Therefore, the second rod 32b also comprises at least one interactive element 34. The interactive element 34 is preferably an element suitable to allow the interaction between the second rod 32b and the side of the horse without damaging or overly straining the latter.

[0043] Preferably, the interactive element 34 has at least one curved contact surface, e.g. of the spherical type and, in detail, is preferably suitable to press the side of the horse.

[0044] The first rod 32a instead comprises a ring 35.

[0045] The ring 35 is preferably arranged at the end of the first rod 32a. However, it could also be arranged in intermediate positions, reducing the lever arm 32.

[0046] In detail, the ring 35 is designed to be detachably engaged to a lunge or rein.

[0047] This way, the ring 35 allows the control of the entire lever 32 by means of the lunge or rein and, in detail, allows the pressure exerted by the interactive element 34 on the side of the horse to be controlled.

[0048] Thus, the interactive element 34 of the second rod 32b is suitable to exert a pressure on the side of the horse when the lunge or rein is tightened and the rods 32a, 32b are rotated relative to the girth 1.

[0049] In other words, when the first rod 32a is moved away from the support plane 31a, the second rod 32b moves away from the support plane 31a and, consequently, moves towards the side or belly of the horse, compressing it.

[0050] Substantially, the pressure exerted by the interactive element 34 is designed to mimic the action of the legs of a rider so as to relax the horse.

[0051] The rods 32a, 32b can therefore be straight rods, or may also have curves to allow targeted and directed compression as desired.

[0052] In addition, the rods 32a, 32b each define an adjustable rod length so as to regulate the pressure exerted on the side of the horse.

[0053] For example, the mechanism 31 may comprise a pin 33 removably connected to the device 33 or to the support 2 itself.

[0054] In this case, the invention may provide a kit of mechanisms 31 removably bound to the device 3 or to the support 2 wherein the pin 33 has the same characteristics, while the levers 32 have different rods to modulate the pressure to be exerted on the belly.

[0055] Pins 33 suitable for this configuration preferably have at least one coupling portion suitable to allow the connection of the pin 33 to the girth 1 and, more appropriately, to the support 2 and/or the device 3. Such connections are, for example, common mechanical connections consisting of screws and bolts, and opening and closing clamps or others known to the current state of the art.

[0056] Alternatively, the invention may comprise a kit of levers 32 removably connected to the pin 33. Such levers 32 may have protuberances, e.g. extending along the axis of rotation 33a, which can be trapped by the pin 33, as usually known in mechanics for removable hinges, and comprise rods of different lengths to adjust the pressure. This aspect is important since, substantially, the relationship between the tension and the pressure applied to the side varies, thus also varying the sensitivity of the user engages the horse, for example, in lungeing.

[0057] Furthermore, the device 3 may comprise a padding 37.

[0058] The padding 37 may comprise any soft material, for example of the same type of standard cushions, designed to increase the comfort of the contact surface of the device 3 with the skin of the horse.

[0059] Consequently, preferably, the padding 37 is arranged on the side comprising the second rod 32b and is opposite the fastening means 30, in the case in which the device 3 is not integrated in the support 2, but is movable.

[0060] Preferably, in an alternative configuration, the girth 1 comprises a plurality of mechanisms 31. More in detail, the girth 1 comprises two mechanisms 31 arranged, when the girth 1 is connected to a saddle, symmetrically, or in a mirror-like manner, relative to the plane of symmetry of the horse.

[0061] In particular, preferably, the mechanisms can symmetrically compress the sides of the horse.

[0062] Furthermore, if the girth 1 is not in one piece with the devices 3, it may comprise two devices 3.

[0063] The devices 3, preferably two in number, are preferably connected to the support 2 in a symmetrical, or specular manner, compared to the plane of symmetry of the horse, by means of the fastening means 30.

[0064] Therefore, in these configurations, the girth comprises levers 32 and pins 33 on both sides.

[0065] As already mentioned, the various accessories and/or reins used in the lunge training (such as fixed reins, etc.) are preferably attached to the rings.

[0066] In this case too, the reins attached to the rings 35, when tightened, activate the second rod 32b inside the girth 1, which generates a compressive force. This force creates a pressure that is exerted on the side of the horse through the preferably spherical interactive element 34, which can be of various kinds and sizes, and placed, for example, at the end of the second rod 32b.

[0067] Through the mechanism 31 of levers 32 and rings 35 the perfect coordination with the assistance of the rider is also ensured in lunge training. In fact, when the reins are tightened, the pressure on the sides is immediately associated, imitating the pressure of the rider's legs.

[0068] The invention can be used with most of the more common accessories used in lunge training (fixed reins, long reins, etc.).

[0069] By way of example, the functioning of the invention has been described with the long reins method and the fixed reins method.

[0070] Figs. 5-6 - show a horse being trained with the long reins attached, not to a classic girth but to the girth of the invention 1. The long rein passing from the side outside the horse and from the other inside, coupling first to the bit of the horse and, secondly, to the ring 35 of the girth 1. Observing Fig. 5 one may notice the combination of two forces. The action carried out by the reins on the horse's mouth is coordinated with the action exerted by the lever 32 on the side of the horse.

[0071] Fig. 5 shows training with fixed reins placed on both sides and attached to the invention. The external fixed reins are coupled to a classic horse surcingle for lunge training and exert a passive action, the internal fixed reins instead are coupled to the ring 35 of the invention exercising an active action. In this case too, the action carried out by the reins on the horse's mouth is coordinated with the action exerted by the lever 32 on the side of the horse.

[0072] The invention therefore associates the classic accessory of reins for lunge training with the action of an active girth that exerts pressure to the side of the horse.

[0073] The functioning of the girth 1 for ground or lunge training a horse previously described in structural terms is as follows.

[0074] A user can enable a horse to acquire a correct posture, when the horse is being trained on a lunge or in general, doing ground training by means of the girth mechanism.

[0075] In particular, the girth 1 makes it possible to work simultaneously on the upper and lower line of the horse. In detail, the girth 1 allows the addition of side training by faithfully simulating the action of the rider's inner leg when mounted and the control of the bending of the horse by pressing on the side, for example between the 5th and the 7th rib, leading the horse to adopt a correct posture in the bending phase and typically with a slightly backward shoulder.

[0076] The girth 1 for ground or lunge training of a horse according to the invention brings important advantages.

[0077] In fact, the girth 1 allows one to work beyond the upper line of the horse, characterized that is by the control means available on the mouth of the horse, and to work simultaneously on two different lines.

[0078] In this way, another advantageous aspect of the invention is to reduce or eliminate the internal states of tension of the horse during lunge training, leading it to relax its muscles.

[0079] As a result, further advantages are given by the increase in flexibility of the horse after using the girth 1, as well as a reduction of pain due to incorrect postures, and resulting strain caused thereby preventing the occurrence of stress, mental imbalances and oppositional behaviour of the horse.

[0080] Thus, overall, the girth contributes to the well-being and longevity of the horse at both amateur and professional levels.

[0081] The purposes achieved are obtained with a mobile or fixed device that is easy to produce and has very low costs in terms of implementation.

[0082] Variations may be made to the invention described herein without departing from the scope of the inventive concept defined in the claims.

[0083] For example, the interactive elements 34 may be of different ergonomic forms so as to increase the ergonomics of the same.

[0084] In said sphere defined by the appended claims, all the details may be replaced with equivalent elements and the materials, shapes and dimensions may be as desired.
