Field of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of sport equipment used for making recreational
activities in water, in particular in the sea, or the lake, etc.
[0002] In particular, the present invention relates to an engagement device for engaging
a first and a second rowlock to a floating board, such as a SUP, or surf, board etc.
Background of the invention
[0003] As well known, an activity for a long time widely widespread in the sea, but also
in the lakes, provides the use of floating boards similar to those used for windsurf,
or surf, but that, differently from these activities, provide to use, as propulsion
elements, a paddle that is operated by a user maintaining an erect position on the
board. In order to remain in the erect position on the floating board, commonly known
as SUP, i.e. Stand Up Paddle, table, and, at the same time, to be able to paddle to
produce the propulsion force that is necessary to move the same on the water surface,
it is necessary that the user is able to keep his balance and has a great coordination.
Therefore, for the reasons disclosed above, this kind of sport activity even though
it can have a large circulation as a recreational activity, at the moment, is not
widely widespread.
[0005] However, the devices that are described in the aforementioned documents provide to
engage the rowlocks to the floating board by belts, tapes, or similar fixing elements,
which need long times for assembling and disassembling.
[0006] Furthermore, the aforementioned devices are not able to guarantee the necessary stability
conditions during the use by a user.
Summary of the invention
[0007] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an engagement device
for engaging a first and a second rowlock to a floating board, in particular a SUP,
or surf, board, that is able to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art floating boards,
in particular that is able to help the action of a user.
[0008] It is also an object of the present invention to provide an engagement device for
engaging a first and a second rowlock to a floating board, which is easy to manufacture.
[0009] It is also an object of the present invention to provide an engagement device for
engaging a first and a second rowlock to a floating board which is easy to mount on
a floating board and, then, dismount from the same.
[0010] These and other objects are achieved by a device for engaging a first rowlock and
a second rowlock to a floating board, in particular a SUP, or surf, board whose main
characteristic is to comprise:
- a main support body configured to be positioned adjacent to an upper surface of the
external surface of said floating board, said main support body being provided with
a first fixing portion and a second fixing portion configured to engage a first end
portion of a first and a second support bar, respectively, said first and second support
bars being provided, at a second end portion opposite to the first end portion, with
a respective rowlock;
- a plurality of engagement elements configured to removably engage said main support
body to said floating board.
[0011] Other features of the present invention are set out in the dependent claims.
[0012] Preferably, the main support body, the first and the second fixing portions are made
in a single piece by moulding of plastic materials.
[0013] In a possible embodiment of the invention, each engagement element of the aforementioned
plurality can comprise:
- a fixed portion integral to the main support body and provided with tightening elements
configured to move from a tightening position to an opening position and vice versa;
and
- a flexible connection portion having a first end fixed to said floating board and
a second end configured to removable engage said tightening elements of said fixed
portion.
[0014] Advantageously, a secondary support body is provided configured to be positioned
adjacent to the floating board at the opposite side to said main support body. In
this case, the aforementioned plurality of engagement elements is configured to "sandwich"
the floating board between the main support body and the secondary support body.
[0015] In particular, the first and the second support bars can be configured in such a
way that the respective rowlock is positioned at a predetermined height (h) from the
upper surface of the external surface of the floating board. More in particular, the
aforementioned height (h) can be set between 60 cm and 170 cm, advantageously between
70 cm and 160 cm, preferably between 80 and 150 cm.
[0016] Advantageously, both the first and the second support bars are configured in such
a way that their length can be adjusted.
[0017] In a possible embodiment of the invention, the first and the second fixing portions
can comprise a first part integral to the main support body, and a second part operatively
connected to the first part, in such a way that it is possible to adjust the inclination
of the second part and, therefore, of the support bar with respect to the floating
board.
[0018] In particular, the first and the second fixing portions can be associated to a respective
device for adjusting the inclination configured to set a determined angle α between
each fixing portion with respect to a vertical direction. More in particular, the
aforementioned device for engaging the inclination can be arranged to adjust the aforementioned
angle α in such a way that this is set between 15° and 60°.

Detailed description of some exemplary embodiments of the invention
[0020] As diagrammatically shown in figure 1, a device 1 for engaging a first and a second
rowlock 11 and 12, to a floating board 100, in particular a SUP board, or a surf board,
comprises a main support body 20, preferably a support plate 20. The main support
body 20 provides a base surface 20c configured to be positioned adjacent to an upper
surface 105 of the external surface 101 of the floating board 100. More precisely,
the main support body 20 has a determined curvature in such a way that the base surface
20c of the same, in working conditions, is arranged to be positioned adjacent to the
upper surface 105 of the external surface 101 of the floating board 100. According
to the invention, the main support body 20 is provided with a first fixing portion
21 and a second fixing portion 22 configured to engage first end portions 31a and
32a of a first and a second support bar 31 and 32, respectively. In particular, the
first and the second fixing portions 21 and 22 can be tubular-shaped, for example
cylindrical-shaped. Advantageously, the first and the second fixing portion 21 and
22 are inclined at a predetermined angle α, for example set between 15° and 60°, with
respect to a vertical direction.
[0021] According to an embodiment of the invention, not shown in the figure for simplicity
reasons, the first and the second fixing portions 21 and 22 can be provided with stiffener
portions, for example positioned within the same. For example, the stiffener portions
can be cores, also this tubular-shaped, made of metallic material. In this way, the
fixing portions 21 and 22 are stiffer and, therefore, can endure higher stresses during
the use of the floating board 100.
[0022] In particular, the first and the second support bars 31 and 32, at respective second
end portions 31b and 32b, opposite to the first end portions 31a and 32a, are provided
with a respective rowlock 11 and 12, i.e. a support for a respective oar. Each rowlock
11, or 12, for example substantially "U-shaped" can be removably constrained to the
aforementioned second end portion 31b, or 32b, of the respective support bar 31, or
32, for example by bolt, or threaded, coupling or by a join, or similar coupling mechanism.
For example, as diagrammatically shown in figure 2A, the elongated portion of rowlock
11, or 12, can be arranged to removable engage into a hole 38 made at the second end
portion 31b, or 32b, of the support bars 31 and 32.
[0023] The possibility is also provided of permanently engaging each rowlock 11, or 12,
at the aforementioned second end portion 31b, 32b, of the respective support bar 31,
32, for example by welding, or gluing, or in such a way that they form a single piece,
for example produced by a moulding process. The device 1 for engaging the rowlocks
11 and 12 to the floating board 100, furthermore, comprises a predetermined number
of engagement elements 50 configured to removably engage the support plate 20 to the
floating board 100.
[0024] According to the embodiment of the invention, the support plate 20, the first fixing
portion 21 and the second fixing portion 22, can be independent components that are
fixed one another by a coupling of fixed type, for example by welding, or gluing,
or removably type, for example by bolts, or threaded coupling.
[0025] According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the support plate 20, the
first fixing portion 21 and the second fixing portion 22 are made in a single piece.
More in detail, the support plate 20, the first fixing portion 21 and the second fixing
portion 22 can be produced by a moulding process of plastic materials. For example,
the plastic material can be a stiff plastic material selected from the group comprising:
polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile (ABS),
polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), or similar materials that are
used in the moulding of plastic materials.
[0026] As diagrammatically shown, for example, in figure 3, each engagement element 50 can
comprise a fixed portion 51 integral to the main support body 20, fixed to the same
for example by screws, bolts, or glue. In particular, the fixed portion 51 is provided
with tightening elements 53 configured to move from an opening position (unbroken
line of figure 2B), to a tightening position (broken line of figure 2B), and vice
versa. Each engagement element 50, furthermore, comprises a connection portion 52,
preferably flexible, and having a first end 52a fixed to the floating board 100, in
one, or more points, for example by gluing, or by a screw, or a rivet, or similar
fixing elements, and a second end 52b. This is configured to engage the fixed portion
51 to be tightened by the aforementioned tightening elements 53 of the same when these
are positioned in the tightening position, in such a way to block the flexible connection
portion 52 in a determined position. In this way, the blocking of the support plate
20, and, therefore, of the rowlocks 11 and 12, to the floating board 100 is easily,
but at the same time extremely effectively, provided. In an equally easy and quick
way it is possible to disengage the rowlocks 11 and 12 from the floating board 100
causing the tightening elements 53 to move in the aforementioned opening position
in which they free the second end 52b of the flexible connection portion 52.
[0027] In the alternative embodiment of the invention that is diagrammatically shown in
the figures 6 and 7, the device 1 for engaging rowlocks 11, and 12, to the floating
board 100, can, furthermore, comprise a secondary support body 25, in particular a
counter-plate, configured to be positioned adjacent to the floating board 100 at the
opposite side of the main support body 20, i.e. at a lower portion 104 of the external
surface 101. Therefore, in this case, when the engagement elements 50 are arranged
in the tightening position, they "sandwich" the floating board 100 between the support
plate 20 and the secondary support body 25. More in detail, as shown in the transversal
cross-section view of figure 7, each engagement element 50 provides a fixed portion
51 integral to the support plate 20, analogously to the embodiment shown in the figures
from 1 to 5. Furthermore, each engagement element 50 comprises a flexible connection
portion 52 having a first end 52a fixed to the secondary support body 25, in one,
or more points, and a second end 52b configured to be removably engaged by the tightening
elements 53 of the fixed portion 51.
[0028] Advantageously, both the main support body 20 and the secondary support body 25,
if present, can be substantially "I-shaped", or substantially rectangular-shaped,
or substantially square-shaped. It is also appropriate to specify that, as a skilled
person in the art can easily understand, even though reference has been made to a
first and a second end 52a and 52b, the engageable/disengageable portion with the
tightening elements 53 and the fixed portion to the floating board 100, or to the
secondary support body 25, are not necessarily positioned at the tail and the head
of the flexible connection portion 52, but at intermediate positions.
[0029] As diagrammatically shown for example in figure 8, the first and the second support
bars 31 and 32 are configured in such a way that the respective rowlocks 21 and 22
are positioned at a predetermined height h from the upper surface 105 of the external
surface 101 of the floating board 100. In particular, the aforementioned height h
is such that the user is arranged to use the oars, or the paddle, mounted on the rowlocks
21 and 22, in erect position. More in particular, the height h can be set between
60 cm and 170, for example between 65 cm and 160 cm, advantageously between 70 cm
and 150 cm, for example between 75 cm and 120 cm.
[0030] According to a particular embodiment of the invention, diagrammatically shown in
the figures 10 and 11, the support bars 31, and 32, can be configured in such a way
that their length can be adjusted. In particular, each support bar 31 and 32 can be
constituted of a first and at least a second elongated elements 33a and 33b, 34a and
34b, can move one with respect to the other between a first position (figure 10),
in which the respective support bar 31, or 32, has a first length 11, and at least
a second position (figure 11), in which the support bar 31, or 32 has a second length
12, with l1≠l2, for example 12>11. In this way, the device 1 for engaging the rowlocks
11 and 12 to the floating board 100 can be configured in such a way to allow the use
of the floating board 100 to users 200 of different heights, or anyway to allow the
same user 200 to assume different postures during the exercise.
[0031] In particular, the first and second bars 31 and 32 can have a telescopic structure.
In particular, blocking elements can be provided arranged to block the first and second
elongated elements 33a, 33b and 34, 34b in a determined relative position corresponding
to the aforementioned length of the respective support bar 31 and 32.
[0032] According to an alternative embodiment of the invention that is diagrammatically
shown in the figures from 12 to 14, the first and the second fixing portions 21, and
22, comprise, respectively, a first part 21a, 22a, integral to the main support body
20, and a second part 21b, 22b, rotatably connected to the first part 21a, 22a, for
example by a ball joint 23, or an articulated joint, or another device for adjusting
the relative inclination. In this way, it is possible to adjust the inclination of
the second part 21b, 22b with respect to the first part 21a, 22a and, therefore, of
the support bar 31, 32, with respect to the floating board 100. For example, as diagrammatically
shown in the figures 13 and 14, it is possible to move from a first inclination α1
with respect to the vertical direction (figure 13) to a second inclination α2 with
respect to the vertical direction (figure 14). In particular, the device for adjusting
the inclination is arranged to set a determined angle α formed by each fixing portion
21 and 22 with respect to the vertical direction. Advantageously, the inclination
of the fixing portions 21 and 22 with respect to the vertical direction can be adjusted
by the aforementioned device for adjusting the inclination, in such a way that the
aforementioned angle amplitude α is set between 15° and 60°.
[0033] As diagrammatically shown in the alternative embodiment of figures 15 and 16, the
engagement device 1 can, furthermore, comprise a first and a second side engagement
body 40a and 40b configured to engage respective opposite lateral edges 100a and 100b
of the floating board 100. Preferably, the first and the second side engagement bodies
40a and 40b are configured to extend between the upper surface 105 and the lower surface
104 of the floating board 100. In particular, the first and the second side engagement
bodies 40a and 40b can be made of plastic material. More in particular, the first
and the second side engagement bodies 40a and 40b can be produced by moulding of plastic
material.
[0034] Advantageously the plastic material of the first and second side engagement bodies
40a and 40b can be a stiff plastic material, in particular selected from the group
comprising: polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile
(ABS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), or similar materials used
for moulding plastic materials. For example, the first and second side engagement
bodies 40a and 40b can be produced using the same mould.
[0035] In particular, the first and second side engagement bodies 40a and 40b can be substantially
"C-shaped". More in particular, the first and second side engagement bodies 40a and
40b are arranged to engage the floating board 100 at opposite sides with respect to
the support plate 20.
[0036] Advantageously, the plurality of engagement elements 50 comprises a first group of
engagement elements 60 arranged to removably engage the first and second side engagement
bodies 40a and 40b to the main support body 20 at respective engagement surfaces 20a
and 20b.
[0037] In particular, the first group of engagement elements 60 can comprise a predetermined
number of engagement holes 61 made at one of the engagement surfaces 41a, or 20a and
41b, or 20b, of the first and the second side engagement bodies 40a and 40b, or of
the main support body 20, and a corresponding number of elongated engagement elements,
for example fixing pins, or screws, bolts, or similar fixing elements, arranged to
removable engage into the aforementioned engagement holes 61, advantageously blind
engagement holes 61, for example by a shape coupling, or a force coupling, or a threaded
coupling. In particular, in the case of screws, bolts, and similar fixing elements
which need a tool to screw the same into the corresponding engagement holes, the first
and second side engagement bodies 40a and 40b provide through holes 63, each of which
arranged to house, in use, the head of a respective engagement element 62, for example
a stud bolt, or an engagement pin.
[0038] Advantageously, at the faces 42a and 42b of the first and second side engagement
bodies 40a and 40b arranged, in use, to be positioned adjacent to the edges 100a and
100b of the floating board 100, spacer elements, in particular made of soft material,
can be provided. In this way, it is possible to avoid that during the use of device
1 for engaging the rowlocks 11 and 12 to the floating board 100, the lateral edges
100a and 100b of the same can be scratched.
[0039] In particular, the faces 42a and 42b of the first and the second side engagement
bodies 40a and 40b are arranged, in use, to be positioned adjacent to the edges 100a
and 100b of the floating board 100, are positioned, in use, below the aforementioned
engagement surfaces 41a and 41b, and, advantageously, at a position more distant from
the floating board 100 with respect to the same.
[0040] Furthermore, the plurality of engagement elements can comprise a second group of
engagement elements, not shown in the figure for reason of simplicity. In particular,
the second group of engagement elements can comprise a predetermined number of engagement
elements arranged to tighten the first and second side engagement bodies 40a and 40b
to the board 100 at respective edges 100a and 100b.
[0041] In particular, according to an embodiment of the invention, the first fixing portion
21 and the second fixing portion 22 can be provided with respective housing holes
24 arranged to house the first end portions 31a and 32a of the support bars 31 and
32 (figure 1), or a protruding portion 39 of the same (figure 15). More in detail,
the first end portions 31a and 32a or their aforementioned protruding portions 39
can have a polygonal cross section, in particular a hexagonal cross section, in order
to prevent the same from rotating with respect to the first and second fixing portions
21 and 22 during the use of the floating board 100 by the user.
[0042] Still with reference to the example of figure 15 and 16, each of the second end portions
31b and 32b of the support bars 31 and 32 can comprise a respective fixed portion
37, i.e. integral, respectively, to the first and to the second bar 31 and 32, and
a movable portion 38 configured to move with respect to the fixed portion 37. In particular,
the movable portion 38 can be rotatably engaged to the fixed portion 37 about a rotation
axis 138, in particular a substantially vertical rotation axis. In this way, it is
possible to adjust the position of the fixed portion 37 at which the rowlock 11, or
12, is rotatably engaged to the first, or the second support bar 31, or 32, in such
a way that the user can adjust the position of the same, and, therefore, of the respective
oar, accordingly to an ideal posture.
[0043] Furthermore, at each second end portion 31b and 32b of the support bars 31 and 32
a knob 35 can be, advantageously, provided at which a user can act to cause the aforementioned
rotation of the movable portion 38 with respect to the fixed portion 37. In particular,
the aforementioned knob 35 can be operatively connected to a self-locking device configured
to block, or unblock, the rotation of the movable portion with respect to the fixed
portion, for example comprising gear transmission components as for example toothed
wheels, not shown in the figures for reason of simplicity.
