[0001] The present invention relates to a dishwasher comprising spray arm.
[0002] In dishwashers, the washing process is performed by spraying water coming through
a water supply line on the dishes by means of spray arms. Water is sprayed on the
surfaces of the dishes placed on a basket through a spray arm. The spray arms rotate
about themselves in different revolutions and speeds for homogeneous spraying of water
on all dishes in the dishwasher. Water is thus enabled to be angularly transmitted
on the dishes. Water can reach more regions as its intensity and speed increase. Washing
performance is thus enhanced. However, water transmitted from the spray arms fails
to reach the dishes due to a high amount of dishes or the dishes not being placed
well enough, and washing performance decreases. Increasing the amount and flow rate
of water in order to enhance washing performance leads to a higher energy and/or water
consumption.
[0003] State of the art patent document no.
EP0962181 discloses a dishwasher comprising a spray arm capable of angular motion by means
of a magnetic positioning system. Further, the state of the art patent document no.
WO2014/090876A1 discloses a dishwasher comprising a spray arm and protrusions on the spray arm bearing
so that the movement of the spray arm ends between the protrusions.
[0004] The aim of the present invention is to realize a dishwasher with enhanced washing
performance.
[0005] The dishwasher realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed
in the first claim and the dependent claims comprises a body, a washing tub in which
items to be washed are placed, at least one spray arm enabling washing of the items
by spraying water in the washing tub and a water supply line enabling conveying water
to the spray arm. The spray arm is detachably attached to the water supply line by
means of a coupling mechanism. Water is conveyed to the washing tub through the water
supply line by means of the water supply line. Water reaching through the water supply
line to the spray arm is conveyed to the items placed in the washing tub by being
sprayed.
[0006] The dishwasher of the invention comprises a coupling mechanism having a bearer member
and a rotatable member. An end of the bearer member is mounted to the water supply
line and the other end to the spray arm. The spray arm is connected to the water supply
line by means of the bearer member, enabling water transmission through the water
supply line to the spray arm. The rotatable member is mounted on the bearer member.
The rotatable member rotates about its axis upon rotation of the spray arm. At least
one first peak and at least one first dip are provided on the surface of the bearer
member contacting the rotatable member. At least one second peak and at least one
second dip are provided on the surface of the rotatable member contacting the bearer
member. The bearer member and the rotatable member move away from each other by means
of the peaks and approach each other by means of the dips. A spring is provided on
the bearer member, enabling the rotatable member to be continuously pushed upwards.
The spring enables the second peak and/or the second dip on the rotatable member to
continuously contact the first peak and or the first dip provided on the bearer. The
spray arm is thus enabled to continuously move in vertical direction. The motion of
the spray arm in vertical direction enables the sprayed water to reach a wider area.
Washing performance is thus enhanced.
[0007] In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher comprises a spray arm having an
upper position in which the first peak provided on the bearer member meets the second
dip provided on the rotatable member or in which the second peak provided on the rotatable
member meets the second dip provided on the bearer member, and a lower position in
which the first peak provided on the bearer member meets the second peak provided
on the rotatable member.
[0008] In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher comprises a lock which can be controlled
by the user. The lock comprises a recess provided all around the rotatable member
and a track provided all around the bearer member. The recess extends along the track.

[0011] The dishwasher (1) comprises a body (2), a washing tub (3) in which the washing process
is performed, at least one spray arm (4) arranged on the washing tub (3), enabling
spraying water in the washing tub (3) by rotating about itself, a water supply line
(5) conveying water it receives through the mains to the spray arm (4), and a coupling
mechanism (6) provided between the water supply line (5) and the spray arm (4), enabling
the spray arm (4) to be mounted on the water supply line (5). Water coming through
the water supply line (5) is sprayed on the dishes by means of the spray arm (4),
thereby enabling performing the washing process. The spray arm (4) is detachably attached
on the water supply line (5) by means of the coupling mechanism (6).
[0012] The dishwasher (1) of the invention comprises a coupling mechanism (6) enabling the
spray arm (4) to move in vertical direction and having a bearer member (7) whose one
end is connected to the water supply line (5) and the other end to the spray arm (4),
a rotatable member (8) mounted on the bearer member (7) so as to be rotatable on the
bearer member (7), at least one first peak (9) and at least one first dip (10) provided
on the surface of the bearer member (7) contacting the rotatable member (8), at least
one second peak (11) and at least one second dip (12) provided on the surface of the
rotatable member (8) contacting the bearer member (7), and a spring (13) provided
on the bearer member (7), enabling the rotatable member (8) to be pushed upwards when
the rotatable member (8) is mounted on the bearer member (7). The rotatable member
(8) is rotatably mounted on the bearer member (7). Dips (10, 12) and peaks (9, 11)
are provided on the bearer member (7) and the rotatable member (8). The distance between
the bearer member (7) and the rotatable member (8) varies by means of the dips (10,
12) and the peaks (9, 11). The bearer member (7) and the rotatable member (8) approach
and move away from each other. The spray arm (4) thus moves in vertical direction.
The spring (13) enables the rotatable member (8) to be continuously pushed towards
the bearer member (7). The bearer member (7) and the rotatable member (8) are thus
enabled to continuously contact each other. Movement of the spray arm (4) in vertical
direction enables the sprayed water to reach a wider dirty area, enhancing washing
performance.
[0013] In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a spray arm (4) having
an upper position (U) in which the first peak (9) or the first dip (10) provided on

on the bearer member (7) meets the second peak (11) provided on the rotatable member
(8). The spray arm (4) is farther from the dishes when it is in the upper position
(U). Taller dishes are thus enabled to be cleaned. When the spray arm (4) assumes
the lower position (A), water is enabled to be transmitted to smaller kitchenware
resting in between other items.
[0014] In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a lock (16) which
can be controlled by the user, enabling the spray arm (4) to not move in vertical
direction, having a track (14) provided all around the rotatable member (8), and at
least one projection (15) provided on the bearer member (7), advancing along the track
(14). When the user desires to inhibit movement of the spray arm (4) in vertical direction,
the projection (15) settles on the track (14) and the spray arm (4) only rotates about
its axis without moving in vertical direction.
[0015] The invention enables realizing a dishwasher (1) with enhanced washing performance.
The coupling mechanism (6) enabling the spray arm (4) to be connected to the water
supply line (5), comprises a bearer member (7) and a rotatable member (8). The rotatable
member (8) moves in vertical direction on the bearer member (7) by means of the peaks
(9, 11) and the dips (10, 12) provided on the surfaces of the rotatable member (8)
and the bearer member (7) contacting each other. This enables the spray arm (4) also
to move in vertical direction. Water is transmitted to more kitchenware by means of
the spray arm (4) moving in vertical direction. Washing performance is thus enhanced.
