Object of the invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a convertible table which enables it to be used
in different positions, a first position usable as a coffee table with the possibility
of being able to adjust it to a sofa or similar piece of furniture, and a second position
with a greater height usable as a work table or for eating while seated in a chair;
wherein the change from one position to the other is performed without needing to
use tools; and wherein in each of the positions the table is set on the floor in different
supports.
Technical problem to be solved and background of the invention
[0002] Nowadays, a multitude of tables are known, most of which have a single use, either
as a work table, a dining table, a coffee table, etc.
[0003] Some of said tables comprise a structure with moving parts which can be placed in
a folded position when not in use, occupying a reduced volume, and an unfolded position
when said tables are going to be used.
[0004] Other tables are also known which include an articulated structure which enables
a coffee table to be converted into a raised table for eating. Said articulated structure
includes complex mechanisms which make it difficult to fold and unfold the table in
order to go from one position to the other. Furthermore, these tables have a high
cost.
Description of the invention
[0005] In order to achieve the objectives and prevent the drawbacks mentioned in the previous
sections, the invention proposes a convertible table comprising a support frame and
a supporting platform with anchoring elements to be able to removably couple the supporting
platform on the support frame in two positions with different heights: first and second;
wherein in each of the positions of the supporting platform, the support frame rests
on the floor in different areas.
[0006] The support frame includes two pairs of parallel outer bars and two parallel bar
segments contained in a first plane which is perpendicular to two second planes wherein
the two pairs of outer bars are separately contained.
[0007] The anchoring elements, integral with the supporting platform, are selectively coupled
in the two parallel bar segments or in one of the two pairs of parallel outer bars.
[0008] The support frame comprises a bar structure formed by four parallel modules formed
by pairs of bars which include first ends formed by curved portions as supporting
elements for the table on the floor when the supporting platform is positioned in
the first position, and second ends opposite from the first ends.
[0009] The second ends of the parallel modules are evenly joined to the two parallel bar
segments, while each parallel module comprises the curved portion, the outer bar and
an inner bar; wherein these two bars converge in the respective curved portion.
[0010] The support frame further comprises a frame joined to the outer and inner bars of
the parallel modules, a first transverse bar joined at the ends thereof to two outer
bars of two parallel modules, and a second transverse bar joined at the ends thereof
to those same two outer bars of the two parallel modules.
[0011] The first transverse bar is close to the first ends of the parallel modules, while
the second transverse bar is located near the second ends of the parallel modules.
[0012] Each of the anchoring elements has a U-shaped configuration and is formed by a crosspiece
and two branches; wherein, the supporting platform being assembled, portions of the
bar segments or portions of the two outer bars fit tightly and selectively into gaps
delimited between the pairs of branches of the anchoring elements integral with the
supporting platform.
[0013] Next, to help better understand this specification and as an integral part thereof,
a series of figures is attached in which the object of the invention is depicted in
an illustrative and non-limiting manner.
Brief description of the figures
[0014]
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the convertible table, object of the invention.
The table is placed in an elevated position for use for working or eating, as well
as comprising a support frame and a supporting platform.
Figure 1a shows a cross-sectional view according to section A-B of figure 1.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the convertible table in a low position for use
as a coffee table which is adjusted to the height of a sofa.
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of the supporting platform, wherein it highlights
anchoring elements in order to be able to comfortably assemble and disassemble said
platform on the support frame of the table in different positions.
Description of an exemplary embodiment of the invention
[0015] Considering the numbering adopted in the figures, the convertible table comprises
a metallic support frame 1 and a supporting platform 2 configured to be removably
coupled on the support frame 1 in at least two different positions by means of anchoring
elements 3 integral with said support platform 2, such that in one of the positions
the convertible table is used as a table for working or eating, while in the other
position the convertible table is used as a coffee table with the possibility of being
able to adjust it in this case to a sofa 4, as shown in figure 2, wherein a part of
the support frame 1 is positioned below the sofa 4 and another part above a seat of
the sofa.
[0016] Thus, in both cases the supporting platform 2 is positioned in horizontal planes;
wherein in the table for working or eating, the supporting platform 2 is placed in
a higher position than when it is used as a coffee table.
[0017] The support frame 1 comprises a structure of bars formed by four parallel modules
5 formed by pairs of bars which include first ends wherein curved portions 5a are
located as supporting elements for the table on the floor when it is used as a table
for working or eating, and second ends opposite from the first ends.
[0018] The second ends of the parallel modules 5 are evenly joined by means of two parallel
bar segments 6 configured to be able to couple the anchoring elements 3 when the table
is used as a table for working or eating.
[0019] Thus, each bar segment 6 joins two parallel modules 5, while each pair of bars of
each parallel module 5 comprises an outer bar 5b and an inner bar 5c which converge
at the first end thereof in the respective curved portion 5a.
[0020] The support frame 1 further comprises a frame 7 joined to the outer and inner bars
5c of the parallel modules 5, a first transverse bar 8 joined at the ends thereof
to two outer bars 5b of two parallel modules 5, and a second transverse bar 9 joined
at the ends thereof to those same two outer bars 5b of the two parallel modules 5;
wherein the first transverse bar 8 is close to the first ends of the parallel modules
5, while the second transverse bar 9 is located near the second ends of the parallel
modules 5.
[0021] When the convertible table of the invention is used as a coffee table, the anchoring
elements 3 are coupled on the two outer bars 5b to which the first transverse bar
8 and the second transverse bar 9 are joined, while the other two outer bars 5b are
used to rest on the floor. Furthermore, in this case, a part of the two parallel modules
5 which have the outer bars 5b resting on the floor can be introduced under the sofa
(figure 2), which enables a part of the supporting platform 2 to be positioned above
the seat of the sofa 4 for greater comfort of the user.
[0022] Each of the anchoring elements 3 has a U-shaped configuration and is formed by a
crosspiece 3a and two branches 3b; wherein, the supporting platform 2 being assembled
on the support frame 1, portions of the bar segments 6 (table for eating or working)
or portions of the two outer bars 5b (coffee table), fit tightly into gaps 10 delimited
between the pairs of branches 3b of the anchoring elements 3 integral with the supporting
platform 2.
