[0001] Manually adjustable air flow regulator in a window ventilation channel and a window,
in particular a roof window with a manually adjustable air flow regulator in its ventilation
channel.
[0002] The solution comprises a manually adjustable air flow regulator in a window ventilation
channel and a window, and in particular a roof window with a manually adjustable air
flow regulator in its ventilation channel with a slider.
[0003] A solution entailing a ventilation channel in a frame of a roof window featuring
a ventilation grille on the ventilation channel outlet was disclosed in patent No.
PL183640B1. The ventilation grille includes a hand operated shutter to adjust vent size in the
ventilation grille. Vent size is adjusted by moving a hand operated shutter along
the horizontal axis. A further example of a ventilation channel can be found in
JP H0726581 U.
[0004] The proposed solution is an alternative solution of the manual air flow adjustment
in a ventilation channel. The essence of the solution is a manually adjustable air
flow regulator in a window ventilation channel, comprising a housing with at least
one longitudinal air vent and a movable shutter characterized in that the housing
also features the following:
- a slider, with a movable coupling to the longitudinal air vent,
- at least one active element coupled with the slider and the movable shutter,
- wherein movement of the slider in the air vent along the horizontal axis causes the
shutter to move along the vertical axis towards and away from the longitudinal air
vent.
[0005] Preferably the active element includes at least one race for ridges of the movable
shutter and is permanently coupled with the slider.
[0006] Preferably the movable shutter includes at least one race for ridges of the active
element permanently coupled with the slider.
[0007] Preferably the race surface is inclined at α degrees, ensuring the ridge moves smoothly
in the race and it is arrested in the race in a defined position.
[0008] Preferably the movable shutter is at least as long as the air vents of the regulator.
[0009] Preferably the housing is made out of two elements: back and front, permanently coupled
to one another, with the active element and the movable shutter between the two elements.
[0010] Preferably the housing is made out of two elements: back and front, releasably coupled
to one another, with the active element and the movable shutter between the two elements.
[0011] Preferably, there is a wedging space at the edge of the coupling of the front and
back elements, on the inside of the housing, for the edge of the movable shutter also
in the shape of a wedge, which blocks the air vent opening in that position.
[0012] Preferably there is a seal between the housing elements. Preferably there is a recess
in the slider for the element moving the slider in the longitudinal air vent. Preferably
the slider is a full element, and its side walls constitute surfaces to press for
the slider to move along the longitudinal air vent.
[0013] Preferably the slider surface protruding outward the most is flush with the front
housing element.
[0014] The second aspect of the solution, a window, and in particular a roof window comprises
a window frame and a ventilation channel in the window frame with an air inlet on
the outside of the premises and an outlet on the inside of the premises, characterized
in that it includes a manually adjustable air flow regulator mounted on the window
ventilation channel outlet.
[0015] Preferably there is a seal or sealant between the front housing element of the manually
adjustable air flow regulator and the frame.
[0016] Preferably the front element of the manually adjustable air flow regulator is attached
to the window frame using mounting elements.
[0017] The illustration depicts the solution, with given figures showing the following:

first embodiment,

Fig. 4 cross-section of a window frame with the manually adjustable air flow regulator
according to its first embodiment,
Fig. 5 exploded view of the manually adjustable air flow regulator according to the
second embodiment,
Fig. 6 spatial view of the manually adjustable air flow regulator according to the
second embodiment.
Embodiment 1
[0018] The manually adjustable air flow regulator is adapted for mounting in window frame
stile 8 with ventilation channel 9. Because the manually adjustable regulator is user
operated, it is mounted on the inside of the premises on outlet 11 of a ventilation
channel supplying fresh air to the premises through inlet 10 of the ventilation channel.
The manually adjustable air flow regulator comprises a housing constituting front
62 and back 61 elements permanently or releasably coupled to one another. Both housing
elements feature three longitudinal air vents 1 for the flowing air. One of these
air vents 1 features slider 3 with a recess for the user's finger to manipulate the
slider so as to allow movement of the slider along air vent 1. There is space between
housing elements for movable shutter 2 and active element 4. According to the first
embodiment, active element 4 is permanently coupled with slider 3, so that movement
of slider 3 results in the same movement of active element 4 in the housing along
the horizontal axis. Movement of both these elements results in movable shutter 2
moving along the vertical axis towards and away from air vents 1. Movable shutter
2 is propelled by the movement of slider 3 via active element 4 which includes two
races 41 for ridges 21 of movable shutter 2. Race 41 incline angle α is chosen to
ensure that ridge 21 moves smoothly in race 41 and that ridge 21 is arrested in race
41 in a defined position. Movable shutter 2 fulfils its air regulating function if
its length conforms with the lengths of air vents 1 and in the closed position it
covers the entire width of that vent. An edge of the aforementioned movable shutter
enters the wedging space between coupled front 62 and back 61 housing elements. Additionally
seal 7 mounted on housing perimeter ensures the elements are tight. Once the manually
adjustable air flow regulator is fitted and mounted using mounting screws 13 to window
frame stile 8 of a roof window it also features seal 12 between window frame stile
8 and front 62 housing element to improve tightness between the regulator and the
ventilation channel and thus improve control of air flowing in from the outside.
Embodiment 2
[0019] The second embodiment is different from the first embodiment in that the movable
shutter comprises two areas, where one fulfils a covering role whereas the other area
has two races 22. Active element 5 features two ridges 51 which run along the two
aforementioned races 22 so that movement of slider 3 results in ridges 51 of active
element 5 moving along races 22 raising or lowering the movable shutter along the
vertical axis.
