    Description

    Technical field of the invention



    [0001] The present invention relates to a device to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed.

    Background of the invention



    [0002] Patients having mobility, or strength limitations are hindered from coming from a sitting position to a lying position on a bed and will need help to perform this task. If this manoeuvre is performed by the nurse or carer, she or he is lifting the weight in a difficult height and position. At settings where a nurse or carer helps to carry out this task daily, be it in a hospital, special care centre, or a home, this person will be exposed to overload of the back due to non-optimal working posture.

    [0003] WO2012121595 discloses a method for moving a disabled person from a lying position on a bed to a sitting position and vice versa by means of an appliance, as well as an appliance suitable for this. The method for a person to get out of bed comprises that while the person is in a lying position, the legs are pulled up first and a first section of the appliance is inserted into the popliteal regions of the knees or behind the upper legs, after which a connection is made between the first section and the person's upper body after which the person is brought to an upright sitting position by pushing the knees and/or the first section of the appliance down at a bow and/or pushing the upper body up at a bow while the person pivots on his or her bottom, and in that the person while he or she is being sat upright or after he or she has been put on the bed in an upright position, is moved roughly a quarter of a turn until at any rate the lower legs protrude from the bed. Moving a person in this way requires less effort because the person's weight is of assistance by means of leverage when a person is sat upright on a bed.

    [0004] With respect to the method for a person to step into bed, the method comprises that while the person is sitting upright a first section of the appliance is inserted into the popliteal regions of the knees or behind the upper legs, after which a connection is made between the first section and the person's upper body, after which the knees and/or the first section of the appliance are pushed up at a bow and/or the upper body is allowed to recline at a bow during which action the person pivots on his or her bottom until the feet are at a higher level than the top side of the mattress of the bed, after which the person is moved roughly by a quarter turn until the legs are above the bed and then the knees and/or the first section of the appliance are pushed up further at a bow and/or the upper body is allowed to recline at a bow until the person rests on his or her back on the bed.

    [0005] US1923617A discloses a chair for invalids comprising a pair of handle bars, spaced apart uprights secured to each handle bar, a flexible seat connected to said handle bars, a flexible side connected to the spaced uprights of each bar, and a flexible back connected at one end to an upright on one of said bars and being connected to an upright on the other bar.

    [0006] It is therefore desirable to provide an aid, which can eliminate, or at least alleviate, the above problems.

    Description of the invention



    [0007] The invention is set out in the appended set of claims.

    [0008] A first aspect relates to a device to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed, the device comprising:
    • a seat member;
    • a back support member; and
    • a lever arm;

    wherein the seat member and the back support member are arranged at an angle of 85-120 degrees to each other; wherein the lever arm extends from the front of the seat member, and from only one side of said seat member;

    wherein the device further comprises a rounded section between said back support member and said seat member, and wherein the rounded section bends convexly from the back face of the device.



    [0009] A second aspect relates to a device to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed, the device comprising:
    • a seat member;
    • a back support member; and
    • a lever arm;

    wherein the seat member and the back support member are arranged at an inner angle of 85-120 degrees to each other; wherein the lever arm is attached to the seat member and extends beyond the front of said seat member;

    wherein the device further comprises a rounded section between said back support member and said seat member, and wherein the rounded section bends convexly from the back face of the device.



    [0010] This device is configured for the patient to sit in, and by use of the lever arm, the nurse or carer can indirectly use the weight of the patient's torso to lift the patient's legs.

    [0011] Preferably, the seat member and the back support member are arranged at an inner angle of 90-100 degrees to each other for the patient to sit in a comfortable position. The inner angle is to be understood as the angle between the front faces of the seat member and the back support member. The seat member and the back support member are arranged at an inner angle of 85-120 degrees to each other, such as within the range of 90-115 degrees, e.g., within the range of 95-110 degrees, such as arranged at an inner angle within the range of 100-105 degrees to each other.

    [0012] The lever arm is attached to the seat member, as it is the seat member that is easiest to tilt during the operation of lifting the legs. The lever arm is attached to the seat member on or below one of the sides of said seat member, or on the side edge of said seat member.

    [0013] In one or more embodiments, the seat member comprises attachment means adapted for releasably attachment of the lever arm to the seat member. This configuration allows for disassembly of the device during storage.

    [0014] In one or more embodiments, the seat member comprises attachment means adapted for releasable attachment of the lever arm to the seat member on and/or below each side of said seat member and/or on the side edge of said seat member.

    [0015] In one or more embodiments, the seat member comprises attachment means adapted for releasable attachment of the lever arm to the seat member on or below one of the sides of said seat member, or on the side edge of said seat member.

    [0016] In one or more embodiments, the seat member comprises holding means adapted for the patient to hold on to. This configuration secures that the patient's arms will not be squeezed under the device during use, such as during the unloading of the patient from the aid. Preferably, the holding means are positioned medially on and/or medially below the seat member.

    [0017] The lever arm is preferably of a length such that it extends beyond the patient's knees, when the patient is sitting in the aid. Otherwise, the seat member should be sufficiently wide (wider than the patient's hip part) for the nurse or carer being able to grab the lever arm being attached at the side of the seat member. In one or more embodiments, the length of the lever arm extending from the seat member is within the range of 10-150 cm, such as within the range of 15-140 cm, e.g., within the range of 20-130 cm, such as within the range of 25-130 cm, e.g., within the range of 30-120 cm, such as within the range of 35-115 cm, e.g., within the range of 40-110 cm, such as within the range of 45-105 cm, e.g., within the range of 50-100 cm, such as within the range of 55-95 cm, e.g., within the range of 60-90 cm, such as within the range of 65-85 cm, e.g., within the range of 70-80 cm.

    [0018] In one or more embodiments, the lever arm is telescopic. This configuration allows for the nurse or carer to adjust the length of the lever arm during the operation, e.g., to compensate for confined space at different angles around the bed (i.e., the bed may be positioned close to a wall or medical equipment). Furthermore, the device will occupy little space during storage.

    [0019] In one or more embodiments, the width of the back support member is narrower than the widest part of the seat member. This configuration allows for easier separation of the device from the patient after use. The rear part of the seat member may also in one or more embodiments be narrower than the front part of the seat member. The back support member should be wide enough for it to support the patient's spine, such as e.g., 10-20 cm wide. Similar, the seat member should be wide enough for it to support the patient's buttocks, such as e.g., 20-40 cm.

    [0020] The device comprises a rounded section between the back support member and the seat member, wherein the rounded section bends convexly from the back face of the device. This configuration allows for an easier movement and/or positioning of the device in the bed. The rounded section may be shaped by both the back support member and the seat member, e.g., such that the lower part of the back support member is rounded, and the rear part of the seat member is rounded; but it may also be a separate unit attached between the back support member and the seat member. In one or more embodiments, the back support member, the seat member, and/or the rounded section are releasably attached to one another for easier storage.

    [0021] In one or more embodiments, the back support member comprises one or more cut-outs of a size suitable for a nurse or carer to grab onto.

    [0022] A third aspect relates to use of a device according to the present invention to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed.

    [0023] A fourth aspect relates to a method for guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed comprising the steps of:
    1. a) providing a device according to the present invention, and positioning it on the edge of said patient's bed;
    2. b) instructing said patient to sit onto the seat member of said device while being located to the right of said device and holding the lever arm of said device, standing sideways to the bed, and with the front facing said patient, optionally with the right hand on the back support member of said device, and the left hand on said lever arm;
    3. c) instructing said patient to lean backwards in said device, while lifting said lever arm;
    4. d) turning said device by using the body to push said lever arm in a forward movement;
    5. e) tilting said device such that said patient lies on the side; and
    6. f) removing said device.

    Detailed description of the invention



    [0025] Figure 1 shows a device 100 to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed. The device comprises a seat member 200, a back support member 300, and a lever arm 400.

    [0026] The seat member 200 and the back support member 300 are arranged at an inner angle of about 90 degrees to each other.

    [0027] The lever arm 400 is attached to the seat member 200 via attachment means 210 and extends beyond the front of said seat member 200. The attachment means 210 is adapted for releasably attachment of the lever arm 400 to the seat member 200.

    [0028] The seat member 200 comprises holding means 220 adapted for the patient to hold on to. The holding means 220 are positioned medially below the seat member 200 and is here configured as a hand strap that can be held between the patient's legs.

    [0029] The back support member 300 comprises two cut-outs 500 of a size suitable for a nurse or carer to grab onto.

    [0030] Figure 2 shows the first position (on the edge of the bed) that the device is positioned in during the operation. At this position, the patient (not shown) is instructed to sit onto the seat member. The nurse or carer (not shown) can be imagined located to the right of the device, holding the lever arm; optionally with the right hand on the back support member, and the left hand on the lever arm. The nurse or carer thereby stands sideways to the bed, and with the front facing the patient. The patient is then instructed to lean backwards in the device, while the nurse or carer lifts the lever arm (Figure 3). Thereby, it is primarily the weight of the patient's torso that lifts the patient's legs, with minimal load on the nurse or carer. In Figures 4+5, the device is turned by the nurse or carer (not shown) by using his/her body to push the lever arm in a forward movement (to the left of the figure). As the patient's legs are already lifted, the patient is automatically positioned over and along the bed. In Figure 6, the device is finally tilted such that the patient lies on the side. The device can then be removed. The tilting operation may be a collaboration between the patient and the nurse or carer, or may be a sole operation by the nurse or carer, if the patient has little strength. In both situations, the lever arm is moved towards the other side of the bed.

    Claims

    1. A device (100) to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed, the device comprising:

    - a seat member (200);

    - a back support member (300); and

    - a lever arm (400);

    wherein the lever arm (400) is attached to the seat member (200) and extends beyond the front of said seat member (200); wherein the seat member (200) and the back support member (300) are arranged at an inner angle of 85-120 degrees to each other, and wherein the lever arm (400) is attached to the seat member (200) on or below one of the sides of said seat member, or on the side edge of said seat member (200);

    characterized in that the device further comprises a rounded section between said back support member and said seat member, and wherein the rounded section bends convexly from the back face of the device.


     
    2. The device (100) according to claim 1, wherein said seat member (200) comprises attachment means (210) adapted for releasably attachment of said lever arm (400) to said seat member (200) on or below one of said sides of said seat member (200), or on said side edge of said seat member (200).
     
    3. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-2, wherein said lever arm (400) is curved.
     
    4. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-3, wherein said seat member (200) comprises holding means (220) adapted for said patient to hold on to.
     
    5. The device (100) according to claim 3, wherein said holding means (220) are positioned medially on and/or below said seat member (200).
     
    6. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-5, wherein the length of said lever arm (400) extending beyond said seat member (200) is within the range of 10-150 cm.
     
    7. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-6, wherein the width of said back support member (300) is narrower than said seat member (200).
     
    8. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-7, wherein the rounded section is shaped by both the back support member (300) and the seat member (200).
     
    9. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-8, wherein the lower part of the back support member (300) is rounded, and the rear part of the seat member (200) is rounded.
     
    10. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-7, wherein the rounded section is a separate unit attached between the back support member (300) and the seat member (200).
     
    11. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-10, wherein the back support member (300), the seat member (200), and/or the rounded section are releasably attached to one another for easier storage.
     
    12. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-11, wherein said lever arm (400) is telescopic.
     
    13. The device (100) according to any one of the claims 1-12, wherein said back support member (300) comprises one or more cut-outs (500) of a size suitable for a nurse or carer to grab onto.
     
    14. Use of a device according to any one of the claims 1-13 to assist in guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed.
     
    15. A method for guiding a patient from an upright position beside the bed to a lying position in a bed comprising the steps of:

    a) providing a device according to any one of the claims 1-13, and positioning it on the edge of said patient's bed;

    b) instructing said patient to sit onto the seat member of said device while being located to the right of said device and holding the lever arm of said device, standing sideways to the bed, and with the front facing said patient, optionally with the right hand on the back support member of said device, and the left hand on said lever arm;

    c) instructing said patient to lean backwards in said device, while lifting said lever arm;

    d) turning said device by using the body to push said lever arm in a forward movement;

    e) tilting said device such that said patient lies on the side; and

    f) removing said device.


     


    Ansprüche

    1. Vorrichtung (100) zum Unterstützen beim Führen eines Patienten von einer aufrechten Position neben dem Bett in eine liegende Position in einem Bett, wobei die Vorrichtung umfasst:

    - ein Sitzelement (200);

    - ein Rückenstützelement (300); und

    - einen Hebelarm (400);

    wobei der Hebelarm (400) an dem Sitzelement (200) befestigt ist und sich über die Vorderseite des Sitzelements (200) hinaus erstreckt; wobei das Sitzelement (200) und das Rückenstützelement (300) in einem Innenwinkel von 85-120 Grad zueinander angeordnet sind und wobei der Hebelarm (400) an dem Sitzelement (200) an oder unter einer der Seiten des Sitzelements oder an der Seitenkante des Sitzelements (200) befestigt ist;

    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Vorrichtung ferner einen abgerundeten Abschnitt zwischen dem Rückenstützelement und dem Sitzelement umfasst, und wobei sich der abgerundete Abschnitt konvex von der Rückseite der Vorrichtung biegt.


     
    2. Vorrichtung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Sitzelement (200) Befestigungsmittel (210) umfasst, die zum lösbaren Befestigen des Hebelarms (400) an dem Sitzelement (200) auf oder unter einer der Seiten des Sitzelements (200) oder an der Seitenkante des Sitzelements (200) ausgelegt sind.
     
    3. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-2, wobei der Hebelarm (400) gekrümmt ist.
     
    4. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-3, wobei das Sitzelement (200) Haltemittel (220) umfasst, die für das Festhalten des Patienten ausgelegt sind.
     
    5. Vorrichtung (100) nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Haltemittel (220) medial an und/oder unterhalb des Sitzelements (200) positioniert sind.
     
    6. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-5, wobei die Länge des Hebelarms (400), der sich über das Sitzelement (200) hinaus erstreckt, im Bereich von 10-150 cm liegt.
     
    7. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-6, wobei die Breite des Rückenstützelements (300) schmaler als die des Sitzelements (200) ist.
     
    8. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-7, wobei der abgerundete Abschnitt sowohl durch das Rückenstützelement (300) als auch durch das Sitzelement (200) geformt wird.
     
    9. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-8, wobei der untere Teil des Rückenstützelements (300) abgerundet ist und der hintere Teil des Sitzelements (200) abgerundet ist.
     
    10. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-7, wobei der abgerundete Abschnitt eine separate Einheit ist, die zwischen dem Rückenstützelement (300) und dem Sitzelement (200) befestigt ist.
     
    11. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-10, wobei das Rückenstützelement (300), das Sitzelement (200) und/oder der abgerundete Abschnitt zur leichteren Aufbewahrung lösbar aneinander befestigt sind.
     
    12. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-11, wobei der Hebelarm (400) teleskopisch ist.
     
    13. Vorrichtung (100) nach einem der Ansprüche 1-12, wobei das Rückenstützelement (300) einen oder mehrere Ausschnitte (500) einer Größe umfasst, die zum Greifen durch eine Krankenpflege- oder Betreuungsperson geeignet ist.
     
    14. Verwendung einer Vorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 1-13 zum Unterstützen beim Führen eines Patienten von einer aufrechten Position neben dem Bett in eine liegende Position in einem Bett.
     
    15. Verfahren zum Führen eines Patienten von einer aufrechten Position neben dem Bett in eine liegende Position in einem Bett, umfassend die folgenden Schritte:

    a) Bereitstellen einer Vorrichtung nach einem der Ansprüche 1-13 und Positionieren derselben an der Kante des Bettes des Patienten;

    b) Anweisen des Patienten, sich auf das Sitzelement der Vorrichtung zu setzen, während man sich rechts von der Vorrichtung befindet und den Hebelarm der Vorrichtung hält, seitlich zum Bett steht und mit der Vorderseite dem Patienten zugewandt ist, optional mit der rechten Hand an dem Rückenstützelement der Vorrichtung und der linken Hand an dem Hebelarm;

    c) Anweisen des Patienten, sich in der Vorrichtung nach hinten zu lehnen, während man den Hebelarm anhebt;

    d) Drehen der Vorrichtung, wobei der Körper verwendet wird, um den Hebelarm in eine Vorwärtsbewegung zu drücken;

    e) Neigen der Vorrichtung, sodass der Patient auf der Seite liegt; und

    f) Entfernen der Vorrichtung.


     


    Revendications

    1. Dispositif (100) pour aider au guidage d'un patient d'une position debout à côté du lit à une position couchée dans un lit, le dispositif comprenant :

    - un élément de siège (200) ;

    - un élément de support dorsal (300) ; et

    - un bras de levier (400) ;

    dans lequel le bras de levier (400) est fixé à l'élément de siège (200) et s'étend au-delà de l'avant dudit élément de siège (200) ; dans lequel l'élément de siège (200) et l'élément de support dorsal (300) sont agencés selon un angle interne de 85 à 120 degrés l'un par rapport à l'autre, et dans lequel le bras de levier (400) est fixé à l'élément de siège (200) sur ou en dessous de l'un des côtés dudit élément de siège, ou sur le bord latéral dudit élément de siège (200) ;

    caractérisé en ce que le dispositif comprend en outre une section arrondie entre ledit élément de support dorsal et ledit élément de siège, et dans lequel la section arrondie se courbe de manière convexe depuis la face arrière du dispositif.


     
    2. Dispositif (100) selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit élément de siège (200) comprend des moyens de fixation (210) conçus pour une fixation amovible dudit bras de levier (400) audit élément de siège (200) sur ou en dessous de l'un desdits côtés dudit élément de siège (200), ou sur ledit bord latéral dudit élément de siège (200).
     
    3. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 et 2, dans lequel ledit bras de levier (400) est incurvé.
     
    4. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, dans lequel ledit élément de siège (200) comprend des moyens de maintien (220) conçus pour que ledit patient puisse s'y tenir.
     
    5. Dispositif (100) selon la revendication 3, dans lequel lesdits moyens de maintien (220) sont positionnés médialement sur et/ou en dessous dudit élément de siège (200).
     
    6. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5, dans lequel la longueur dudit bras de levier (400) s'étendant au-delà dudit élément de siège (200) se situe dans la plage de 10 à 150 cm.
     
    7. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6, dans lequel la largeur dudit élément de support dorsal (300) est plus étroite que celle dudit élément de siège (200).
     
    8. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7, dans lequel la section arrondie est façonnée à la fois par l'élément de support dorsal (300) et l'élément de siège (200).
     
    9. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 8, dans lequel la partie inférieure de l'élément de support dorsal (300) est arrondie, et la partie arrière de l'élément de siège (200) est arrondie.
     
    10. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7, dans lequel la section arrondie est une unité séparée fixée entre l'élément de support dorsal (300) et l'élément de siège (200).
     
    11. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 10, dans lequel l'élément de support dorsal (300), l'élément de siège (200) et/ou la section arrondie sont fixés l'un à l'autre de manière amovible pour un rangement plus facile.
     
    12. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 11, dans lequel ledit bras de levier (400) est télescopique.
     
    13. Dispositif (100) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 12, dans lequel ledit élément de support dorsal (300) comprend une ou plusieurs découpes (500) d'une taille appropriée pour être saisies par une infirmière ou un soignant.
     
    14. Utilisation d'un dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 13 pour aider au guidage d'un patient d'une position debout à côté du lit à une position couchée dans un lit.
     
    15. Procédé de guidage d'un patient d'une position debout à côté du lit à une position couchée dans un lit comprenant les étapes :

    a) de fourniture d'un dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 13, et de positionnement de celui-ci sur le bord du lit dudit patient ;

    b) de demande audit patient de s'asseoir sur l'élément de siège dudit dispositif tout en étant situé à droite dudit dispositif et en tenant le bras de levier dudit dispositif, en se tenant debout latéralement par rapport au lit, et avec l'avant faisant face audit patient, éventuellement avec la main droite sur l'élément de support dorsal dudit dispositif, et la main gauche sur ledit bras de levier ;

    c) de demande audit patient de se pencher vers l'arrière dans ledit dispositif, tout en soulevant ledit bras de levier ;

    d) de mise en rotation dudit dispositif en utilisant le corps pour pousser ledit bras de levier dans un mouvement vers l'avant ;

    e) d'inclinaison dudit dispositif de sorte que ledit patient est couché sur le côté ; et

    f) de retrait dudit dispositif.
