[0001] The invention concerns a profile assembly comprising:
- a window profile assembly for holding glazing, wherein said window profile assembly
comprises an openable window part and a fixedly arranged, adjacent window part which
is arranged adjacent to the openable window part so that the two window parts extend
substantially in a same plane;
- a grating profile coupled to the window profile assembly for holding slats for shielding
the openable window part; and
- an awning profile assembly for holding a lateral side of an awning for shielding the
fixedly arranged window part.
[0002] The window profile assembly of such a profile assembly is intended to hold glazing,
but is also suitable and often used for holding e.g. panels or gratings etc. When
reference is made to glazing, this also applies mutatis mutandis to some other suitable
wall elements.
[0003] The grating profile with slats held therein forms a ventilation grating which is
arranged in front of the openable window part in order to shield this. Such ventilation
gratings must typically comply with strict requirements for resistance to break-in
and also e.g. fall prevention.
[0004] This type of ventilation grating is often used for night-time cooling. The openable
window part is left open at night and large quantities of air can flow via the ventilation
grating through one or more rooms to be ventilated in a building. In this way, heat
which has built up in the building during the day can be dissipated.
[0005] BE 1 012 000 A3,
NL 2 002 316 C, and
BE 1 019 505 A5 describe and depict such ventilation gratings for integration in a wall. This invention
however refers to variants for mounting in front of the wall, i.e. in front of an
openable window part in this wall.
NL 2 008 258 C describes and depicts an example of such a ventilation grating.
[0006] Increasingly often, variants of such ventilation gratings are arranged to shield
an openable window part, wherein an awning device, such as for example an awning which
can be rolled onto and unrolled from a canvas roller, is provided in order to shield
a fixedly arranged, adjacent window part. The location of such a ventilation grating
next to such an awning device however imposes several problems.
[0007] Some known solutions for profile assemblies (1) for such a combined awning and grating
device, which also illustrate such problems, are depicted in figures 1 and 2.
[0008] The grating profiles (5) depicted here, in contrast to the grating profile of the
ventilation grating from
NL 2 008258 C, have no flange so that the grating profile (5) can be connected as tightly and aesthetically
as possible against an adjacent awning profile assembly (6). The grating profile (5)
is arranged in front of an openable window part (3), while an awning device comprising
the adjacent awning profile assembly (6) is arranged in front of an adjacent, fixedly
arranged window part (4). The awning device in the embodiment depicted comprises an
awning which can be rolled onto and unrolled from an awning roller, of which thicker
lateral edges are guided during rolling and unrolling in corresponding awning guides
(32) arranged in the awning profile assembly (6).
[0009] Both the grating profile (5) and the adjacent awning profile assembly (6) are screwed
against the profile (28) of the window profile assembly (2).
[0010] In order to make the grating profiles (5) align as aesthetically as possible with
the adjacent awning profile assembly (6), a suitable intermediate profile (7) is provided
between the grating profile (5) and the window profile assembly (2). This is time-consuming,
customised work. As these figures show, in addition it is not easy to screw an awning
profile assembly (6) and an adjacent intermediate profile (7) fixedly to a same profile
(28) of the window profile assembly (2). The screws (8) here cannot always be arranged
so as to sit in a cavity in a profile of the window profile assembly (2), as is the
case in figure 1. Often, these screws (8) are merely placed in a profile (28) of the
window profile assembly (2) such that, after installation, they remain visible and
protrude as an obstacle during opening of the openable window part (3), as is the
case in figure 2. This causes problems.
[0011] The object of the invention is to provide such a profile assembly with which the
above-mentioned problems can be remedied.
[0012] The object of the invention is achieved by providing a profile assembly comprising:
- a window profile assembly for holding glazing, wherein said window profile assembly
comprises an openable window part and a fixedly arranged, adjacent window part which
is arranged adjacent to the openable window part so that the two window parts extend
substantially in a same plane;
- a grating profile coupled to the window profile assembly for holding slats for shielding
the openable window part; and
- an awning profile assembly for holding a lateral side of an awning for shielding the
fixedly arranged window part;
wherein the grating profile comprises a laterally protruding flange and wherein the
awning profile assembly comprises a flange-receiving cavity for receiving said flange
therein.
[0013] By providing the grating profile with a laterally protruding flange and by receiving
said flange in a flange-receiving cavity of the awning profile assembly, the grating
profile can be connected more precisely and aesthetically to the awning profile assembly.
Only the awning profile assembly need be coupled directly to the window profile assembly.
Furthermore, it is no longer necessary to also couple the grating profile to the window
profile assembly using intermediate profiles. The grating profile is now coupled to
the window profile assembly via the awning profile assembly. It is therefore easier
to attach the awning profile assembly by means of screws to a profile of the window
profile assembly, without the screws being visible after installation and protruding
as an obstacle during opening of the openable window part.
[0014] More specifically, for this the awning profile assembly may comprise:
- a base profile which is provided with a coupling wall via which the awning profile
assembly is coupled to the window profile assembly, wherein the flange can be arranged
against this coupling wall; and
- a closing profile piece which is attachable to the base profile for forming the flange-receiving
cavity.
[0015] In a first variant, the base profile may for this be provided for example with a
rear wall which protrudes with respect to the coupling wall. The closing profile piece
may here be able to be attached directly to this rear wall, at the end of this rear
wall which is arranged remotely from the coupling wall. The flange-receiving cavity
may thus be formed between the closing profile piece, the rear wall and the coupling
wall.
[0016] In a second variant, the base profile may also comprise, as well as such a rear wall,
a grating side wall which protrudes with respect to the rear wall at the end of the
rear wall remote from the coupling wall. The closing profile piece may be able to
be attached in the cavity which is delimited by the grating side wall, the rear wall
and the coupling wall, and here adjoin said grating side wall so that the flange-receiving
cavity is again formed between the closing profile piece, the rear wall and the coupling
wall.
[0017] In all these variants, the grating profile may easily be mounted by arranging its
flange against the coupling wall and then attaching the closing profile piece to the
base profile.
[0018] The closing profile piece is here preferably provided for holding the flange between
the closing profile piece and the coupling wall.
[0019] The profile assembly furthermore preferably comprises screws for fastening the flange
against the coupling wall. The closing profile piece is then preferably provided for
shielding these screws. The screws are shielded after fixing of the closing profile
piece to the base profile, so they are not easily be accessible for removing the grating
profile. This provides increased protection against break-in and also contributes
to fall prevention.
[0020] In order to provide the grating profile with a laterally protruding flange, this
may for example be produced as the grating profile from
NL 2 008 258 C.
[0021] More specifically, the flange is preferably formed stepped and for this provided
with a stepped part, and the coupling wall is preferably provided with a shoulder
which protrudes with respect to the coupling wall, such that the stepped part of the
flange engages behind this shoulder when the flange is arranged against the coupling
wall.
[0022] By allowing the stepped part of the flange to engage behind a shoulder, it can easily
be ensured that a certain distance is maintained between the grating profile and the
window profile assembly, so that the grating profile with slats arranged therein can
be aligned more easily with an awning device which contains the awning profile assembly.
[0023] Also, this stepped part offers the advantage that screws which attach the flange
to the coupling wall can be countersunk.
[0024] A further advantage is that the stepped part is clamped behind the shoulder, and
thus provides further security for protection against break-in.
[0025] In addition, the stepped part offers greater water-tightness since, thanks to the
stepped part, no rain can penetrate behind the grating profile via the lateral sides
of the grating profile.
[0026] When the profile assembly is configured according to the first variant above, the
awning profile assembly preferably has a fixing collar which protrudes relative to
the rear wall, at the end of the rear wall remote from the coupling wall, for fastening
the closing profile piece to the rear wall.
[0027] More specifically, this fixing collar may for this be designed double-walled in order
to form a screw channel for arranging therein screws for fastening the closing profile
piece to the rear wall. Alternatively or additionally, the fixing collar may for example
be provided for attaching the closing profile thereto by means of a clip fastening
and/or a hook connection.
[0028] In a particularly preferred variant of a profile assembly according to this invention,
the awning profile assembly comprises an awning side wall which is provided at the
end of the rear wall remote from the coupling wall, so as to protrude relative to
the rear wall, at the side of the rear wall opposite the side where the closing profile
piece is attachable, in order to form, together with the rear wall and the coupling
wall, an awning-receiving cavity for holding the lateral side of the awning.
[0029] More specifically, in a first said variant in which it is provided with a fixing
collar, the awning profile assembly may comprise a second fixing collar which protrudes
with respect to the rear wall, at the end of the rear wall remote from the coupling
wall, in order to fix the awning side wall to the rear wall.
[0030] Even more specifically, for this said second fixing collar may be designed double-walled
in order to form a screw channel for arranging therein screws for fastening the awning
side wall to the rear wall. Alternatively or additionally, the second fixing collar
may for example be provided for attaching the awning side wall thereto by means of
a clip fastening and/or a hook connection.
[0031] In a preferred embodiment, the rear wall of the profile assembly according to this
invention is designed double-walled and provided for arranging therein a fixing screw
for coupling the coupling wall to a profile of the window profile assembly.
[0032] More specifically, the closing profile piece may then be provided with a cover flange
for covering the fixing screw, in order to conceal this fixing screw from view. Additionally
or alternatively, in variants with an awning side wall, said awning side wall may
be provided with a cover flange for covering said fixing screw.
[0033] In a further variant of a profile assembly according to this invention, the coupling
wall forms part of a profile of the window profile assembly.
[0034] The invention is now explained in more detail below with reference to the following
detailed description of some preferred profile assemblies according to this invention.
The aim of this description is exclusively to give clarifying examples and indicate
further advantages and features of these profile assemblies, and thus may in no sense

[0036] The profile assemblies (1) for a combined awning and grating device according to
the prior art have been described above.
[0037] The profile assemblies (1) according to the invention also comprise in each case
a window profile assembly (2).
[0038] This window profile assembly (2) is designed to hold a glazing (39), as can be seen
e.g. in the embodiment of figure 3, but may also serve for holding panels or gratings
etc. Thus for example, in figure 13, an insulating panel (40) is held in the window
profile assembly (2).
[0039] The window profile assembly (2) in each case comprises a fixed window part (4) and
a window part (3) which can be opened with respect to the fixed window part (4). In
the embodiment of figure 13, the fixed window part (4) is provided with glazing (39),
and the openable window part (3) is provided with the insulating panel (40).
[0040] A grating profile (5) is in each case arranged in front of the openable window part
(3) for shielding the openable window part (3).
[0041] The grating profile (5) is provided with an attachment groove (38) for holding slats
(not shown) for forming a ventilation grating. Examples for holding slats in such
a grating profile (5) are known from the prior art, such as e.g. from
BE 1 012 000 A3,
NL 2 002 316 C and
BE 1 019 505 A5, so will not be discussed in more detail here. In the closed state of the openable
window part (3) as shown in the figures, the ventilation grating is closed. In open
state of the openable window part (3), large quantities of air can flow via the ventilation
grating through one or more rooms to be ventilated in a building.
[0042] Awning profile assemblies (6), which are contained in an awning device and to this
end provided with awning guides (32), are in each case arranged in front of the fixed
window part (4).
[0043] This awning device comprises for example an awning (not shown) which can be rolled
onto and unrolled from an awning roller, wherein thickened lateral sides of this awning
are guided in the awning guides (32). These lateral sides may for this for example
be provided with a half zip closure. Also, examples of such awning devices are known
from the prior art, so these will not be described in more detail here.
[0044] By means of this awning, the fixed window part (4) can be shielded by unrolling the
awning, or exposed by rolling up the awning.
[0045] In the depicted embodiments according to the invention, the grating profile (5) is
now in each case provided with a laterally protruding flange (9), and adjacent awning
profile assemblies (6) are provided with a flange-receiving cavity (10) in which said
flange (9) is received.
[0046] All awning profile assemblies (6) contain a base profile (11).
[0047] The base profile (11) in each case comprises a coupling wall (12) which couples the
awning profile assembly (6) to the window profile assembly (2).
[0048] In the first two embodiments depicted (see figures 3-5 and 8-10), this coupling wall
(12) is screwed to a profile (28) of the window assembly (2) by means of fixing screws
(8). In the third embodiment depicted (see figures 13-16), the base profile (11) and
hence also this coupling wall (12) form part of a profile (28) of the window profile
assembly (2).
[0049] In the first embodiment depicted, the coupling walls (12) of the top and bottom awning
profile assembly (6) shown are designed with single walls. The awning profile assembly
(6) shown in the middle is provided with a double-walled coupling wall (12). In the
second and third depicted embodiments, all awning profile assemblies (6) are provided
with double-walled coupling walls (12). Alternatively, the single-walled coupling
walls (12) may also be designed with double walls, and the double-walled coupling
walls (12) may also be designed with single walls.
[0050] As well as the base profile (11), each awning profile assembly (6) comprises a closing
profile piece (15, 20) which is attachable to the base profile (11). In addition,
an awning side wall (19) may be provided which can also be fixed to the base profile
(11). In the awning profile assemblies (6) with a said flange-receiving cavity (10),
the flange (9) can be arranged against the coupling wall (12), and the flange (9)
is held between the closing profile piece (15) and the coupling wall (12) when the
closing profile piece (15, 20) is attached to the base profile (11). In the embodiments
depicted, the flange (9) is here fixedly screwed to the coupling wall (12) by means
of screws (31). The closing profile piece (15) is provided for shielding these screws
(31).
[0051] In the awning profile assemblies (6) without said flange-receiving cavity (10), the
base profile (11) together with the closing profile piece (20) forms an awning-receiving
cavity (22) for receiving therein an awning guide (32) for holding the lateral side
of the awning.
[0052] In the awning profile assemblies (6) of the awning device arranged next to the grating
profile (5), the base profile (11) together with the awning side wall (19) forms an
awning-receiving cavity (22) for receiving therein an awning guide (32) for holding
the lateral side of the awning.
[0053] In some cases, the awning profile assembly (6) may furthermore be provided with one
or more additional profiles, such as the insertion profile (33), in the top and bottom
awning profile assembly (6) in the first embodiment depicted, as shown in figure 3.
In these embodiments, the flange (9) is arranged on the coupling wall (12) not directly
but indirectly via said insertion profile (33) which thickens the coupling wall (12).
This insertion profile (33) is for this attached to the base profile (11) by means
of screws (37), but could equally well be attached to said base profile (11) in another
suitable manner.
[0054] As well as the coupling wall (12), the base profile (11) in each case comprises a
rear wall (13) which protrudes with respect to the coupling wall (12).
[0055] In addition, the base profile (11) may also comprise a grating side wall (14) or
an awning side wall which forms an integral part of the base profile (11). This grating
side wall (14) or awning side wall here stands at the end of the rear wall (13) remote
from the coupling wall (12), with respect to the rear wall (13), in order to form
a substantially U-shaped base profile (11). This is the case in the depicted awning
profile assemblies (6) shown at the top and bottom of the first embodiment in figure
3. In these embodiments, the closing profile piece (15), (20) can be fastened into
the U-shaped base profile (11) adjacent to the grating side wall (14) or the awning
side wall.
[0056] For the base profiles (11) which are not provided with a grating side wall (14) or
awning side wall, a fixing collar (16) is provided at the end of the rear wall (13)
remote from the coupling wall (12), for fastening the closing profile piece (15) to
the rear wall (13), so that said closing profile piece (15) protrudes with respect
to the rear wall (13). In the embodiments depicted, this fixing collar (16) is designed
double-walled in order to form a screw channel (23) for arranging therein screws (26)
for fastening the closing profile piece (15) to the rear wall (13). Correspondingly,
the closing profile piece (15) is provided with a fixing leg (35) which is designed
double-walled for forming a screw channel (36), for arranging these screws (26) therein.
Instead of making the closing profile piece (15) fastenable via screws (26) in this
way, this closing profile piece (15) may additionally or alternatively also be made
fastenable by a clip fastening and/or hook connection etc.
[0057] For the base profiles (11) of the awning profile assemblies (6) of the awning devices
arranged adjacent to the grating profile (5), at the end of the rear wall (13) remote
from the coupling wall (12), a second fixing collar (16) is provided for fastening
the awning side wall (19) to the rear wall (13), so that said awning side wall (19)
protrudes with respect to the rear wall (13), at the side of the rear wall (13) opposite
the side where the closing profile piece (15) is attachable. In the depicted embodiments,
this second fixing collar (21) is designed double-walled to form a screw channel (24)
for arranging therein screws (26) for fastening the awning side wall (19) to the rear
wall (13). Correspondingly, the awning side wall (19) is provided with a fixing leg
(35) which is designed double-walled for forming a screw channel (36), for arranging
these screws (26) therein. Instead of making this awning side wall (19) fastenable
via screws (26) in this way, this awning side wall (19) may additionally or alternatively
be made fastenable by means of a clip fastening and/or a hook connection etc.
[0058] In the first two embodiments depicted, the rear wall (13) of the awning profile assemblies
(6) which are provided with both a flange-receiving cavity (10) and with an awning-receiving
cavity (22), are each designed double-walled for forming a screw channel (25), for
arranging therein fixing screws (8) for coupling the coupling wall (12) to a profile
(28) of the window profile assembly (2). In order to conceal these fixing screws (8)
from view, the closing profile piece (15) is provided with a cover flange (29), and
the awning side wall (19) is provided with a cover flange (30). These cover flanges
(29, 30) may together cover these fixing screws (8) (see figures 3, 5, 8 and 10).
[0059] In the depicted embodiments, the flange (9) of the grating profile (5) is formed
stepped. The coupling wall (12) is correspondingly provided with a shoulder (18) which
protrudes with respect to the coupling wall (12), so that this stepped part (17) of
the flange (9) engages behind this shoulder (18) when the flange (9) is arranged against
the coupling wall (12). This shoulder (18) may be provided either as an integral part
of the coupling wall (12) or it may form part of an above-mentioned insertion profile
(33) for arranging this on the coupling wall (12).
