1. A process for thermal treating drawn brass rods essentially containing in addition to copper, from 30 to 42 % of Zinc, from 1.5 to 4.5 % of lead and also being able to contain up to 2.5 % of aluminium, up to 1.3 % of tin, from 0.03 to 0.1 % of arsenic, up to 0.1 % of iron, up to 0.01 % of silicon, characterized in that said rods are brought to a temperature of between 425 % C and 10 degrees C below the solidus temperature of the brass and preferably between 550 degrees C and 800 degrees C for a period of between 1/100 of a second and 10 minutes.

L'invention concerne des barres étirées, en laiton au plomb, ayant subi au moins un recuit intermédiaire, et leur procédé d'obtention. Le procédé consiste à effectuer le recuit à une température comprise entre 425°C et une températur inférieure de 10° au point de solidus, pendant une durée comprise entre 1/100e de seconde et une minute. Les barres ainsi obtenues ont des particules de plomb non coalescées, de dimension inférieure à 1,5 micromètre, et comportent au moins 8 000 de ces particules de plomb par millimètre carré et par pour-cent de plomb. Elles donnent, lors de l'usinage, un copeau fin et cassant ne provoquant pas le bourrage. Application aux barres de laiton au plomb destinées au décolletage automatique.
